Airports change runways direction because taking off and landing into the wind can be done at lower speeds and in less time. Simply put, when taking off, a headwind will create more lift. When landing, winds at your nose will also act as a speed break by creating drag against the airframe to slow the aircraft down.
Love your videos Will! Planes land and take off into the wind because it’s much safer too, a tailwind speeds the plane up and can cause it to be unstable on final approach, a head wind creates more lift on takeoff so enables a lower take off speed so less fuel and on landing creates drag helping to slow the plane down do planes love headwinds when close to the ground 👍😀
I got no TV, nothing. All I got is mobile phone with youtube. Your videos are one of the most entertaining. I wish I had a van like yours. I'd be off every weekend. Thx🙏
Hello neighbor to the South from Washington state! 😄 Vanlife is definitely the way to go, if this channel has you considering it! I've been in my van since 01 January 2017... My only advice, insulation is important for the cold days as much as it is for hot days! 🥶🥵 Cheers pal! 🤠
When I stayed in Horley during the summer of 1984, aged 14, my bedroom in the family house had a direct view of all the planes only moments from landing at Gatwick. It was a constant parade of gigantic 747s from all over the world, and absolutely fascinating for a kid from the western North Carolina mountains!
Brilliant - £36 a bit steep though, you didn’t even use the shuttle bus to go to the terminal to get some pasta from the shop 😂 The meal you cooked looked very tasty. All the best, David 👍
One of the things I love most about your vids is how you always cook a meal from scratch, I find it very random (but awesome) for a young man, but OMG you need to up your breakfast game, why on earth didn't you toast that bread first🙈
Hi Will, Been watching your videos for a few months now and really enjoy the content. So inspiring. I'm currently homeless and waiting for finances to fall into place so I can get my driver's license. Then I will be getting a van to stealth camp whilst my situation gets better. Love your videos mate. Always brighten up my day. Wishing you all the best.
Wind direction. We live in Stevenage on Luton flight path sometimes they land over us sometimes they take off over us but we always here them rumble on the run way x
Hi Will ..So given your van ..its a L2 ..would you if had to start again go for the longer L3 ?? Is it worth the space inside by gambling the length ..Parking etc..in urban areas etc..
You were right about wind being a reason for airports changing runway directions. Airplanes takeoff and land into the wind, so they change direction of takeoffs and landings accordingly. With the parking lot ticket, you will be billed in the mail most likely. The ticket pairs with your license plate. When you leave the cameras read your license plate. The computer then calculates whether you stayed shorter, longer or the exact time. it then uses the address that corresponds with the license plate, to send the bill. Don't worry, you'll have to pay one way or another. Nice video Will. Safe travels and stay blessed.
Great content. love watching where you end up. One thing and I’m not being an arse. When you sneeze do it into your elbow and not your hand , you’ll not spread it all over the steering wheel or what ever you touch afterward. They teach it to the kids these day at school and it does actually work. Keep the content coming.
I love the videos Will, but I have always wondered one thing. You always seem to cook much more than one person could eat. Do you always eat it all or do you keep the remainder to eat the next day? Or do you freeze it?
You could do with a outside front camera then you could still watch the planes without anyone knowing. Well if you wanted to. Loving your vids will. Im fully trained therapist and it is so important for people to talk about mental health. Take care x
Great video as always. I’ve camped in my estate car in that car park, but due to my flight being delayed until the following day. Not quite as comfortable as Mary, but better than trying to sleep in the terminal building. Fortunately I had my Duvalay with me (staying with friends in London on my return, sofa surfing) so could have been worse. I parked under the double layer bit so I could leave the windows cracked open for a bit of ventilation without worrying about it raining overnight - it’s also a bit quieter if planes are arriving/departing but not so great a view.
I've stealth camped at Gatwick in my van after my friends done it. It's surprisingly well known. I received a fine though. I had the exact same issue where the barriers wouldn't let me in. Pulled a ticket. Ate and slept in my van. I left the car park the following morning. The barriers went up. I thought hey, cool, it recognises my plate and knows I paid already. A week later, I received a £500 fine for failing to pay. It took me three weeks to get it sorted.
@@ImDBatty1 I went through some automated bull. I ended up going through Citizens Advice who were able to get me through to a human. Twenty emails and eight phone calls later, they agreed to cancel the fine and believe I paid while lying about not receiving payment. I had to send them a statement proving the money was taken. I had a final call back from a manager or someone higher up. They said they took payment for the night of parking. They won't push for more money.

No need to add to the worry. As a woman on my own I've travelled to nearly all European countries with almost no poroblems. My van has been broken into twice - in Spain, which most would consider a 'safe ' country! Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary etc no problem at all!
Great location for a stealth camp will as for your question on the planes taking off from the other end of the runway its all to do with wind direction the planes take off into the wind and then land down wind
It’s not by accident that runways are orientated it that direction it’s the way the wind naturally travels in that area, and as previously explained planes take off and land into the wind- birds often do too!

Bless you Will. I used to use airport car parks for years, for a night or two, (when it was cheap.) No one cares once you're in there, no stealth needed!
They occasionally change landing / take off routes to give those under the flight path a breather from the noise and pollution caused by the aircraft I used to live right under Heathrow's flight path and the breaks were a blessing ...
If you enjoyed the planes at Gatwick you should head to Myrtle Avenue at Heathrow and if the planes are coming into land over the field there you feel even closer to them 😍

Aircraft take off and land into the wind so as the wind direction changes, so does the direction they take off and land 💪
I think airports change takeoff and landing directions for wind and also noise reduction to try and keep local residents happy ish

Hello Will,
Today I tried your recepie.
You had mixed spice herbs.
As I do not know what mix that is I used Sage (fresh), Tyme and basil (both dry).
It worked out fine.
As thank you I have another chicken recepie for you in return.
Chicken with parmesan and mushrooms
ingredients,
Chicken fillet or thigh fillet
Spice mix "It's incredible". (Can be replaced with leamon pepper, salt and garlic powder)
Fresh field mushrooms 227gr
Garlic cloves 4 pcs
Flour 1 tbsp
Chicken broth 1.2dl
Whipping cream 2.4dl (double cream in the UK?)
Fresh spinach To taste (approx. 1 bag)
Grated parmesan approx. 113 gr
Oil and butter for frying
Work description,
Season the meat on all sides with the spice mixture.
Fry in oil.
If everything doesn't fit at once, fry in batches.
About 2 minutes of frying time on each side until you get a golden brown frying surface.
Set the chicken aside.
Fry the mushrooms in the same pan and then set aside.
Add butter to the pan and fry the chopped garlic cloves for about 1 minute.
Add the flour.
When the flour is fried in the butter, the chicken broth is added.
Stir until you get a smooth sauce.
Then add the cream and stir.
Season with salt, pepper and garlic powder to taste.
Add grated parmesan.
Simmer on low heat and while stirring until the cheese dissolves in the sauce.
Add chopped spinach and continue to simmer for a while.
Mix in the fried mushrooms.
Add the fried chicken and turn the pieces in the sauce so that they are covered in sauce.
Cook pasta and mix with the sauce with chicken.
I normally do not include the spinach but it probably would work fine.
For the spice mix I use leamon pepper, garlic powder and salt.
Most often I add chopped onion.
Try it.
I think that it is very good.
I got it from a fellow on UA-cam.
Good luck.
