👴 Old Composer Reactions 🤘
SOOOOO - whatch think of the Reaction Gameplay presentation? Should I do more like this?? AWWWRIGHT!!
Love full album stuff. I haven't seen you do anything from Opeth's Still Life. It would be one hell of a journey. :)
Definitely (if that's what you also like to do)!! I'd love to see some more Death (band) to see you sweat to that sweet tape saturation 🤫
Please! I love the longform stuff, whether its albums or those songs from different albums things you used to do I love it all. If the gameplay is something you want to keep doing then keep doing it, I don't find it distracting from the reaction at all. So its up to you.
Absolutely more!
this was a good excuse to listen to the whole album again.
I cannot imagine a better way to spend an afternoon than a good comfy game with a killer soundtrack 🤘
Notes on meaning in the album:
The title "Terra Incognita" is Latin for "unknown land" and references a metaphysical concept in Hinduism for the hidden part of a person where a certain divinity is hidden or sealed.
From Genius:
“1990 quadrillions de tonnes' translates literally to '1990 quadrillion tons[ using the large scale (used in French), which would be “1 octillion 990 septillions” using the short scale (used in English), which is the mass of the sun (or 1.990 × 1027 tons)."
With the screams it gives vibes of people being crushed by the heaviness of the Sun. Speculation is that it could represent screaming due to sunburns from ozone layer damage. This is a big issue that we've actually made a lot of work on because nationstates worked together to get rid of the use of what was largely damaging it due to bans of many of the chemicals that were making people concerned. If only there was also this coordinated effort on some of the other large environmental hazards humanity is dealing with.
TI was written after the vocalist Joe and his partner had basically spent two years in a cabin away with societal basics like electricity.
'04" is a gift from Joe and Mario to their mom for her 50th birthday. The voice message is a message from their uncle greeting her. It originally wasn't meant to be released. This is the first tribute but there are other examples in their discog later to their mom, particularly the entirety of Magma which was an album they ended up dedicating to her as she passed during the making of it. It makes songs on the LP like "Shooting Star" far more poignant.
The cover on TI is their guitarist Christian and reflects the inward and very personal look at the self and soul on it. This is a concept that resonates across the Gojira discography. A lot of the album the Way of All Flesh tackles some of that especially as it regards mortality, grief, finding oneself, and of course tackling ecological destruction that is another Gojira staple. "In the Forest" is a perfect example but so are lines like in "Space Time."
"So I fix my attention now
On this perfect planet revolving around this star"
"In the Forest" also has a bit of a hidden song at the end. It's something Gojira also did later on TWoAF. Instrumental passages/songs are also a fairly common Gojira thing as both palette cleanser but also as representative of the particular vibe of an album.
There's (1990 Quadrillions de) tons more that one can analyze for TI and Gojira generally but figured I'd add some of it/insight. It's also really fascinating.
---
Geebz also references this idea that Gojira fans like the eccentric and weird stuff, completely valid. Anyway, hope this comment added value.
very nicely written 👌
From chops, chord progressions, production, and songwriting, this album is a masterclass in technicality. While the albums general feel is raw as opposed to produced, there's incredible separation between instruments yet everything fuses together. While their newer albums feel more mature, this album is an ice cold display of skill in every form and one of my absolute favorites.
1:01:22 - "This one is called Love, so maybe this will be a little laid back" made me laugh.
You're so awesome man!! At times it feels like we're all surrounded by dark people so its great to see/hear a good light hearted person.
Thank man, really!!
This is Gojira's first full release, when they were youngest and filled with the most unheard anger. Each of their subsequent albums becomes less heavy and more melodic, exploring interesting tonal spaces. It has been interesting to see their progression over time. I Terra Incognita is probably a TAD too brutal for me overall, but I still LOVE dipping into it every now and again :D
This has probably been my favorite album for the past decade or so. It's got so many concepts and riffs that are still brilliant today, not to mention 22 years ago.
What a fun idea for a long form video!
Killin' it, big cat
2:44 Clone
9:16 Lizard Skin
16:40 Satan Is A Lawyer
21:58 04
25:21 Blow Me Away You - Niverse
32:10 5988 trillions de tonnes
33:52 Deliverance
41:10 Space Time
47:35 On the B.O.T.A.
50:20 Rise
55:59 Fire Is Everything
1:00:58 Love
1:06:10 1990 quadrillions de tonnes
1:11:34 In the Forest
Space Time is a top-5 Gojira song, excellent.
Duuuuuuude! I'm SO HAPPY you chose this album specifically. It's so underrated. What an awesome way to spend my Friday 🤟
literally one my favorite albums ever 🔥
PLEASE do The Way Of All Flesh album too!!!
peak of their music imo
The Way of All Flesh - это их апогей тяжести, но не просто, а "мрачной тяжести". Потому что From Mars to Sirius тоже был тяжёлый, но "светлый".
THE best Gojira album 🙌
Disagree but none of them are bad.
All of them are best each in their own way
Terra is fantastic, but after tenths of hours of listening to Gojira, its still From mars to Sirius as an untouchable number 1 in their discography for me
@@jez_77 nah I gotta give it to The Way of All Flesh.
@@Wernershnitzl I was about to say that TWoAF is my second favorite, but then I remembered how much I love L'Enfant Sauvage and Terra Incognita as well. Cant decide Im afraid lmao
this is genuinely the best thing ive seen this week haha i love this album and i love powerwash simulator too! glad youre still having fun on twitch geebz!
hahhaaaa - thank you!!
Torn between being amazed and so happy you did this, with being devastated that you cut off before the ‘hidden track’. 3 minutes of beautiful calming music that they also do so so well
1:00:45 I agree. I'm a Gojira fan, but I'm also a self-confessed rhythmic pattern nerd. I appreciate that the complexity isn't necessarily relaxing ;)
you must love Tool haha
@@luccahunger You found me out! 🥸
Oh man I'm looking forward to watching this, people forget how Gojira became such a huge deal. It's because even back then when they were much more "traditionally death metal" they already had their unique sound and twist on the genre that made me fall in love with them. I got into them with "The Link" that is very tribal, but Terra Incognita has been my favourite of theirs ever since I got into it and it's definitely in my top 5 metal albums of all times with The Link. Cheers Geebz!
I just discovered Gojira with the release of Born for One Thing and have enjoyed the ride listening to all their albums.....this one lands in the top.
They have become one of my favorites and have now seen them live twice.
Cheers🤘
Favorite Gojira album easily.
1:09:40 Geebz, if I remember correctly, 1990 quatrillion tons is the mass of the Sun and 5988 trillion tons (the earlier instrumental) is the mass of the earth (in French numbers that represent more than American trillions etc). Also I can't believe you didn't let In the Forest run to get to the hidden track!
I heard somewhere they used recordings of asylum patients for the track vocals
I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd love to see you witness evolution of Gojira album by album. I was fortunate enough to have Terra Incognita be my first contact with the band and I've discovered their work in album release order. Oh maaaaan it's a journey. Great video, hoping for more SOON!
NOOOOOO HE DIDNT PLAY THE HIDDEN TRACK!
This was perfect!
Wildly heavy. Great review.
i never imagined i'd see a review like this hauhauhau love it
this is a hell of a format great album choice i wanted to listen to this already so it was great to do it with you
OMG! YEASSS!
Hi! at 23'38 I think the "04" track is actually played on guitar by Joe. Really sounds like bass so much so low end frequencies of the guitar is vast but I am quite certain to remember been said it was played on guitar(s) back then when the album came out.
This is one of my fav cd's from them!! SO glad you did this one Geebz.
Ooooh, didn't expect their debut! Thats a surprise, but a very welcome one, love Terra. Great reaction too. I really hope that you will come back to Gojira and do another full album review some day in the future, From Mars to Sirius (concept album btw) is peak Gojira imo and my favorite metal record ever, that would be cool reaction too (I think Gojira fans will back me up ;))
No Wayy!! Bless you Geebz, I just got into this album!
Thank you Geebz 🎉
Listen *Amorphis - The Bee* that song about a bees :) And they really have many intresting songs
Damn i admire your youtube journey. Old Comperser playing games is one of my favorite thinks i came across in a long time.
Keep it up Geebz.
I love this!!
WHAT A GREAT REACTION. i lOVED IT!!
surprised that so many foreigners knows this album ....i mean i remember , back in the days , it was in my french hometown" ooh have you heard the album by a local band called Gojira" see where they are 25 years later
Thanks man, you gave me an opportunity to finally listen to that album, and it was a pleasure to do it with you!
Love the full album reaction with the gameplay. Especially with Gojira, it’s great to hear the context of the album for each song. Their turnaround songs are incredible as well, love their pacing within each album
This album was my final stop on my Gojira journey (until they release another album) and was totally blown away how amazing it sounds. I was so hesitant at first because my initial previews of it the mix/master sounded toned down and didn't know if it would gel well with everything else they've done that I've loved from them. But seeing that they put out a remastered version of the album was a total revelation, cuz this album is now one of my favorites of theirs. Gojira have been total masters ever since their debut, thank you for this video cuz you proved that Geebz.
Hope we'll see you react to more Gojira albums !
Every album they put out is top tier.
I have a weird relationship with their first two albums because my introduction to Gojira was The Link Alive, which I listened to for months before diving into the actual albums that preceded it. The mix on that live album is so incredible that I don't even bother listening to Terra Incognita or The Link given their thinner production, especially since most of the songs are on the live album anyways.
Also, absolutely YES to the Rush vibes. Aside from the polyrhythms/polymeters, the way they structure their songs can be so chaotic and random, but it still somehow just works.
THOROUGHLY ENJOYED EVERY SECOND OF THIS
fun fact, I think Mario (the drummer) was In his early 20s or even 19 when he recorded this album. A beast!
@@user-nk7cy9wb2f really?? didn't know It, thanks!
Loved this reaction, as always! I do think 04 is being tapped on guitar, if I'm not mistaken. I think Christian, one of the guitarists said so!
this was a pivotal album for me and my taste in music super glad you are experiencing it the same way i did it has a unique listening experience that encourages an uninterrupted playthrough I think. "this ones called love so maybe it'll be more laid back?" favorite quote
ia orana from Tahiti ; love this "full album review" concept !!! and what a great idea to start with Gojira !!! my suggestions : Meshuggah "catch thirty three" / Mastodon "hushed & grim" or "leviathan" / Karnivool "sound awake"
Definitely do The Link full album review after this!
This is the best and last thing i ever expected from you. Ive watched every Gojira reaction online and was imagining how awesome itd be if you did a full album review.
Thanks man, big time!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is awesome! Opeth's Still LIfe would be a great reaction for this format 🤟
what i would give for Geebz to react to a full btbam album like colors or parallax 2, awesome reaction as always
super cool geebz
1:09:47
5988 trillions de tonnes = best estimate for the weight of the Earth, and is complimented with the tribal sounds in the track
1990 quadrillion de tonnes = weight of the sun, in the track you hear people burning in fire. Probably related to global warming given the bands history.
"Deliverance", "Love", and "Clone" are my favorites from this album, you're right too, Gojira's rhythmical wizardry is my favorite aspect of Gojira. The riffs, the drums (Mario is the best of the best), the bassist is phenomenal and I wish he got more love, Joe's vocals are pretty unique, just the overall energy and subtle complexity of the band, these are the things that makes Gojira a special band!
I am beyond grateful for this, Terra Incognita is tied for my favorite album with Parallax II by Between the Buried and Me. Now that you find yourself listening to full album reviews in this manner, would you consider giving an entire playthrough review of Colors, or Parallax I/II by Between The buried and Me. I think both yourself and many fans will find it a fun journey through tight musicianship. Thank you again, Geebz
Aloha Geebz. You know I'm here for this. Got a long drive ahead. Let's Jam! This is my favorite Gojira album. You'll love it. And now you'll see the full experience of the music🤘
Hey man, great to hear from you - have a killer weekend!
This is great
I thought I didn't like their pre-From Mars to Sirius stuff but apparently I just needed to listen again, this was great.
I've been to one Gojira show in my life, and they were even better live than on the record. Absolutely blew me away.
AYE excited to see what he thinks of the song Clone
I love this album. One of the best in my opinion. Just brutally heavy
If you're taking recommendations on more full album reacts I vote for one I only found recently which is The Fox and the Bird by the band Ok Goodnight. It's hard, it's soft, it has clean vocals, it has harsh vocals, it is just prog and really amazing
oh HELL yes!
Next up, again Gojira, is the Link Alive concert. It’s a concert mixed with Terra Incognita tracks and The Link, their next album. It might not fit the concept as you should see the performance while listening, otherwise, The Way of All Flesh is the one i’d suggest as the next album. Great production, mixing. Keep going with Gojira!
Awesome video. Love this album, makes for a pretty intense soundtrack for power wash simulator but great regardless lol
This album is nuts. I still listen to this, The Link Alive, and From Mars to Sirius on a weekly basis. Old school Gojira was hard as fuck. And so choppy and technical. Listen to the end of Remembrance. The timing needed to pull that off is insane and they do it live.
my all time favourite band.
that brings me back discovering all their old stuff after getting into them with „the way of all flesh“. good times 🥹
it would be awesome if you reacted to „the link alive“. thats the life dvd they did from a concert of their second album. it has some even gnarlier versions of these songs. and they rip live.
@Geebz is you want another album epic journey… The Ocean Collective Pelagial. Water sounds and ambient pads laced throughout!
Honestly, really great video. More gojira album reactions please!
You need to review the new Tesseract album, pretty wild production value
this is the riffiest album in the world❤
the link next!
You've got to do The Link as well, and at that point you might as well just do every gojiro CD haha
You’ve got to check out the video of them performing Pray at Red Rocks
All have to say about this band is that they will melt your face in their live shows.
I’m curious as to what is causing the pinging noise in the mic when you’re speaking?
As far as Gojira goes, it’s so impressive to me the amount and ways they play with time signatures.
Aww, he missed the hidden track 'Terra Inc' at the end.
Please listen to Opeth’s Still Life in its entirety
Gojira is currently no. 1 best live performance band in the metal (according to metal fans - the article about this is on Loudwire)
I know I'm being controversial, but their two first albums (this one and the link alive) are my favorite ones. Cheers from France man ❤️
please do The Serenity of Suffering by Korn! My favorite
MORE GOJIRA
Oh bro this kills me! I came to see your reaction to the end of "in the forrest" (end of the album) as it's my favourite part, and then you thought it was over and just skipped it... Theres like 5 - 10 seconds of silence before the next piece starts and you skipped it argh!!!!
I have a crazy request for a really crazy reason. My mom got very ill and isn't great. To get my mind off things I've been buying new music to get emersed in. So i pick an album without knowing anything about the album. Turns out on the song Table Tennis and Galaxy in Janaki by Flying Lotus, he used sounds like his mom's breathing life support... and it was made in memory. How crazy is it to randomly pick an album to forget my problems and it's about them. I'd love to see how you'd react to how he mixes it all together... in table tennis you can hear someone playing table tennis to the beat... and breathing machine
You should react to Godzilla wich is the band Joe and mario duplantier played in before gojira they were probably 15-16 years old wich is mindblowing
Please please please do a gull ablum review of Cynic - Traced in Air
"1990 quadrillions de tonnes" i's the weight of the sun, the screams are like the people being pushed by this extreme weight haha
I've dicovered Gojira about 3-4 years ago through their newer, bigger tracks and albums, the first time I heared somthing from Terra Incognita - I didn't like it at all. Compared to what I knew Gojira for (being tracks like Stranded or Flying Whales) it was so... not Gojira. After a few months or a year I gave the album another shot and I'm so happy I did because I absolutely love it. Now I see how Gojira could evolve form TI to an album like Magma. The progression from one to the next one is crazy, but somehow feels right. Many people sleep on Terra Incognita for the same reason I did. If you are one of them, I strongly suggest you give it another try.
Another thing is that Gojira doesn't play any of these older tracks live, so people just don't know about them or don't bother looking them up, which is a shame in my opinion.
So happy you finally got the chance to hear it all Geebz! Love your input as always!
@@user-nk7cy9wb2f Last time anything from The Link was played was in 2017 and this year they haven't played anything from Terra Incognita yet, too rare for my liking ;)
Your reaction is very similar to Mastodon fans, since, like Gojira, they started with super heavy stuff which has mellowed out over the years, and most people got to know them once they had mellowed out more. I'm glad you had that second try at Gojira's roots.
If you want to listen to their, in my opinion, magnum opus listen to From Mars to Sirius. If you want to listen to their next best it's The Way of All Flesh.
1990 tonnes is about earths ozone layer getting wiped away, and thats the people getting burt to death pretty much. Theres more meaning than that tho
Play semi truck driver simulator. Cruise down the road jamming
5988 trillions de tonnes is the weight of the Earth if it was put on a scale. The same can be said about 1990 quadrillions de tonnes, which is the weight of the sun. I think the themes for both of them is weight is affecting us as people. It’s supposed to evoke the weight of the sun in some way, according to Joe!
Gojira really changed a lot from Terra Incognita. I actually think Terra Incognita is still their best album, and arguably a top 10 all time metal album. All time classic.
You can really hear the style shift beween Terra Incognita/The Link and L'Enfant Sauvage on The Way Of All Flesh, which in itself is a classic album.
Please do a whole vektor album please terminal redux first please
5988 trillion de tonnes means the weight of planet Earth in French. 1990 quadrillion de tonnes is the weight of the Sun
I guess you were waiting for something else, and from the very beginning you got "Terra Incognita", a mix worthy of Cannibal Corpse, some Morbid Angel (Altars of Madnes) vibes and the old Sepultura 🤣🤣🤘🤘🤘
See ya!
react to gojira global warming in silver cord studio!!
I cannot recommend the album after this, The Link. Gojira had a less dark and more experimental sound on The Link and i think it's quite underrated. It's a little more "heady"
prefer later Gojira, enjoy
