44:37 - I think Heavy and Assault is a good mele focused soldier. Heavy Ged proficiency on level 2. With Dash and Clearance it can get close and personal with multiple enemies. If you have only 1 Action left you can always war cry and keep enemies in check. I prefer Heavy as a mele instead of Berserker. Berserker do not have many abilities. Only 25% off incoming damage up close. I really like Assault with Sniper. My favourite class.
I have about 250 hours on this game now. I started out Legendary Ironman right off the bat. It took a long time for me to get a good sense of where I should be at different points in the game. It is difficult for a new player to understand if they are ahead of or behind the curve unless they are very behind. Every run until now I tried building my aircraft instead of stealing them. This run I decided to finally try stealing some helios. I managed to snag one on day 6 and another on day 8 without any losses. Having a scarab is very helpful. Its a double bonus, not only do I not have to spend the resources but getting those aircraft early generatesn income theough exploration, etc. I am so far ahead of where I usually am at this point that it seems mandatory for a successful Legendary run.
This is s SUPER helpful guide as I am just downloading the game. Your Chaos Gate guides were super helpful as well. Thanks for taking the time to make these!
This was an excellent introduction to general tips that affect combat strategy. Any chance you are planning a beginner's tips to the base building, world map and diplomacy part of the game? Personally I found the mid-game world strategy far more overwhelming than the combat. Things were simple when it was one or two squads flying off to do missions as things open up, and everyone was getting along. But the DLC (auto-installed?) meant things quickly escalated to the point of not having a clue what to prioritize, and I have a lot of experience with Xcom style games. It can be frustrating for new players as the mid game is quite a few hours into the campaign and there is a sense that one wrong move is going to have a disasterous long term snow ball effect on your game that you won't see until after another 5 to 10 hours of game time.
Thank you for the compliment, glad you enjoyed the video! I didn't have any immediate plans for a strategic layer guide, but I will certainly put it on the list!
re grenades, a really good use is if ur enemy is on a roof, u can cause alot of fall dmg and sometimes kill it by dropping a grenade and causing the baddy to fall down a lvl or two.
Great video. Started playing a week ago and have no reason to go bk to my xcom files. Only problem with using vehicles is that you dont get any XP for kills while investing in a soldier is ongoing provided they live. U earned a sub
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! As for the XP, you don't get XP for killing mobs. You just get XP for completing the mission objectives. The distribution of the XP between your soldiers is based sort of on how much they contribute, but all of the XP will be distributed regardless of whether your vehicle gets kills or not. You can see this if you add up the mission experience on the right-hand side of the post-mission screen, and then add up all of the XP your soldiers earned. Those two numbers should be the same. The only time that's not going to work is if you have a level 7 soldier in your squad, because they still get their "share" of the XP, but since they're maxed out, it always lists them as +0 XP.
Yeah, they've straightened out a lot of the problems from the early game, done some rebalancing, etc. I enjoy playing it a lot. Is it perfect? No, but it's decent. There are still a few issues but they're not game-breaking. Really glad you liked the video!
Hey man you make super informative videos and ive been watchin em trying to learn more about the game, think you could make a video about maintaing a good economy and managing the geoscape? Ive got the actual combat down and all but i keep seeming to get behind the pandorans and always run out of material's. Keep up the good work
just had another thought on whats good for new player tips. 2 things i dont get at the knowing more than it exists level even after 168 hours played. 1: paying mats to repair rooms in NPC havens, seems like you get nothing out of this other than them getting to use that building right away. I thoguht for sure i would get rep out of it. 2:the global population, when i inspect some havens it says not losing population cause it has enough food production around it. For the ones that are losing population cause of hunger, can you some how combat this by building your own food production in PP bases near them with gardens? Or even just straight up give them a stack of food?
There is no direct way to influence havens I think, but: Havens have an "operative range" in which they share their own production with neighboring havens. Food, Production, Military strength. So it is beneficial to keep clusters of havens intact, while outliers are "doomed to fail" to begin with. So yeah... Repairing that haven factory also bumps their neighbours production value up. If that actually results in more growth though? I have no clue.
Also I just wonder how much other people do missions against factions and which ones? Usually I never do, unless it’s super late game and I have everything unlocked. Just wondering if maybe that’s holding me back on legendary. Should I try to steal resources and an extra aircraft kind of early on, and when would you recommend going for it? Thanks. Loved the video
hey, not sure which of your other videos this would be best in. but on any mission that has endless spawning bad guys, is there any way you can kinda accurately guess the rate and when they will start to get reinforcements? Like is it based on your squad power, what turn it is. how many of there guys you have killed. im finding sometimes, i can just mow them down on the way to the objective, and then deal with teh adds. other times, im having to just haul ass to the objective and hope i dont lose a guy while taking a beating just to trigger the spot and get out cause i cant take them out fast enough.
Maps with unlimited reinforcements get 1 new unit per turn. There will also be a certain number of enemies on the map initially besides these, so if you want to get ahead and get control of the map, you have to kill more than one enemy per turn. Also, that obviously doesn't count other mechanisms for new enemies to come onto the playing field, such as worms from a Chiron or reinforcements called by an Acheron. So the question comes down to how fast you can kill bad guys. But the rate is 1 reinforcement per turn.
@@JericsGamescape ahh ok, from my games, it seems like some battles are 1 per turn yea, but other times it seems like its taking upwards 4+ turns for one to come in. I guess they could be spawning in way out of my perception range, but I am assuming they are not, cause the enemy turn toggles over instantly to me, which usualy is only that fast when theres no ai units to plan.
What I never see anyone mention. When safe you should always try to take over allies especially on defence missions...... then drop their inventory before the map is over and you've just collected free weapons, medkits and grenades.
Yeah, that's pretty common, I think a lot of people do that. Two minor downsides, if you don't multiclass them into heavy as well, they don't have proficiency with the jet jump so they can fumble it, and the heavy armor does give them some negatives to accuracy. Neither one is a huge deal, but maybe something to be aware of. Being able to get up on top of a building is pretty nice though, especially against Arthrons with shields, because you have a better chance of being able to shoot over the shield and hit it.
I have beaten it on hard, but man legendary kicks my arse. Even the first three faction missions are CRAZY. I did pass them, but I felt like I just got lucky. Didn’t get much further without giving up. Any tips for legendary?
I don't really know if there's a set number. I don't steal aircraft at all, but most suggestions I've heard tend toward one Thunderbird, one Tiamat, and two Helios if possible. Personally, if I were going to, I wouldn't bother with the Tiamat. If you're going to do it, do it early to minimize the reputation hits.
Currently running two 5 man squads in Helios. Is this viable till end game? I’ve got a third squad leveling in my home base and got a manticore, tiamat and NJ aircraft idle. I don’t use vehicles, though I have four…
I find it's best to have at least three teams, four is better, just because you have so much ground to defend. I usually try to have a team in North America (and South America if there's anything left when you get there), at least one to cover Europe and Africa (two is better), and one to cover Asia. Also, you can go with 5-man teams, but I think you'll find as the game goes on and the enemies get tougher, that you're not outputting enough damage with just five. You're eventually probably going to want eight-man teams.
You can bring up to 8 soldiers on missions, (a few allow 9). You can either load them all into a Tiamat, which I would not recommend because they're way too slow, or you can bring two (or more) aircraft to the mission. If you have multiple aircraft present when you start the mission, you'll be able to choose who gets to go on the mission from all of them, up to the maximum of 8 or 9 allowed.
Grenades aren't that great, but they aren't bad either. Other than the shred. It is the most reliable early game method of making new pathways in the map. They are great value if you can hit more than one at once. You can destroy the floor underneath enemies and make them fall.
Great video but tip number 1 is audio normalize! Your soft voice goes out then blaring rock kicks in. It's kind of frustrating. Good information though
Thanks for sharing these tips, and best of luck in your campaign!
Thank you for making such a great game for us to play!

Quick question:
How many Helios/Aspidas should you steal at beginning of game?
