      Thank you for the comment! I'm just recently restarted the whole game from scratch as there where so many updates and also the difficulty level changes so players are not unnecessarily punished :D But it's hard to tell yet, how developers managed to achieve it or not :D Together we can overcome these difficulties and fight the Pandorans! Happy hunting ;)

    You can however make the mindcontrolled guys trade their gear to one of your characters, so this means mind control someone with the guns you want and boom gear.

      This is invaluable information! You, my fellow gamer, are legend! I'm wondering..just theoretically if you would attack factions (on faction threshold missions) and mindcontrol them all..and take away their weapons..would that mean 100% weapon 'drop' chance from enemies?? And the same of course for aliens..

    MLMariss, at first I was like, oh God, not another video where someone is trying to speak English!!! But I was curious about getting new pointers on the game and watched the entire video. It didn't take long at all for me to clearly understand everything you said. I was patient and very attentive to your accent. I applaud you for quickly trying your best to follow up with an example of what you are trying to say and teach everyone. I must say, there are so many parts where the video is funny and entertaining in a good way. The pointers (tips) were EXCELLENT!!! I learned a lot and there's more than enough info here to give everyone a hell of a good start to finish the game! It's rare that I write any comments, but I wanted to write and say thanks for the awesome video & tips.

    Strangely, nobody mentioned using medkits at the and of the mission! Usually we all put at least one medkit on every soldier. Before you kill last buggie heal the team with medkits. Medkits are cheap and will replenish instantly, healing time is not cheap at all! I do not do that only if I have to go to base for resting, so the healing will be simultaneously. More to this, I think there is no need for more than one medbay per base.

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  4 роки тому +1

      Heh, just commented similar comment on this :D Yes, that is the way to do it - just, remember, even if cheap, those medkits still cost you materials and tech. If you go too much healing - you will find yourself running out or resources.
      And another thing - I use medkits only if heavily wounded (less than 50% HP) and/or heavy bleeding effects in the middle of battle, but I totally ignore small injuries, because Stamina and exhaustion is the main reason you will still bring your soldiers back to base.
      Small bonus tip - stamina and health replenishment does not intervene with each other, meaning - small injuries will be healed while your soldiers get back full stamina, this - purely ignoring (and of course - not getting shot in the first place) are pretty good tactics too ;)

    2% mortality rate, but you have red all over?
    I'm 45% and have that much red all over.
    Turns out that the devs intentionally not tell you how nests and lairs work. If you do not participate and succeed in a haven defense, the nest/lair will never pop up on the map, nor can be scanned before the haven gets attacked. If you see a haven get destroyed, there's a nest nearby and you should scan near it to spot it. Havens actually actively attack nests, it just doesn't appear that way, maybe not shown on purpose.
    The moment a haven gets attacked within the span of a few 'ingame hours' (the same way your bases get attacked, you get alerted), the nest/lair/citadel spawns in that instant and you will never notice because scans are not passive, but active manually.
    I have a theory, that behind the global map, that havens actively are attacking nests as they appear, rendering them unable to defend themselves, and nests appear rapidly and commonly over time, just being erased as fast as they spawn. Then you have havens being taken out and nests spreading while out of sight, hence the red mists.
    The rule is that nests must be created in a mist, but the mist does not disappear when a nest is destroyed.
    It is ABSOLUTELY vital that you get a mist repeller technology as early as possible, probably from stealing but you might only steal what they actively research.
    It took several ingame 'months' before the ingame factions starts researching useful things. I think the ingame factions has the baseline 'research and fabrication' facilities that the player has, and the more 'research facility' are built, the faster they learn new tech for you to share or steal. The problem, is that as they advance, other factions starts hating them, and hence closer to warfare between one another.

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  4 роки тому +3

      Oh, yes - you are absolutely correct on so many things! :D I've spent so many game time already and also just discussing with my brother we came to the same conclusions about nest spawning and how you need to defend them to reveal their location! And nothing of that is mentioned anywhere in the game!!!
      I don't have the repeller technology yet, but I do defend everyone and clear out nests as soon as I got their locations! That's how I managed to get only 2% mortality rate with so much mist :D
      Thank you for all this valuable information - I hope others are also reading it, because it's crucial! Thank you a lot and happy hunting ;)

    TY great vid actually watched it till the end. You obviously understand the game pretty well but I have to disagree about the training center. You should build at least 5-6 at your first base and the rest like you said fabrication plants, research, food, etc... For a functional base all you need is medbay and living quarters and your soldiers can rest and heal, I suggest 2 med bays for fast heals. So any new recruit goes to the main base and after a few days there you can have a lvl 7 soldier ready to deploy anywhere. Also you can steal aircraft, I know it's -20 with that faction but in most playthrough it shouldn't be a problem.

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  4 роки тому

      Great comment, thanks for support too! For training facilities I agree - the benefit is great!
      The issue in the first base I have is 1) limited space..where if you struggle to find next bases fast..you will fill those empty slots with all other facilities. 2) other problem at the beginning is electricity - you'll find yourself in the situation where 2 spots left and electricity only for 1 facility, where there is no point of making +1 power facility if there are no space left! and 3) issue is..where you start, you will clear out everything around you..thus making that area quite empty for you, thus making that base further away from the action. So in that sense it is smarter to get some 3rd, 4th base you find..which is quite empty..then fill with the training center for your new soldiers..
      So that is currently the course of action I changed myself and many thanks for pointing this out ;) Together we will not only survive but thrive! :)

      @@MLMarissMy fav X-com was Apocalypse, I played it for a few years and completed it 3-4 times. This game took a lot from that and modernized, and simplified it's nowhere close to the complexity of X-com Apocalypse but much better than Firaxis XCOM 1 and 2.
      Now about your points.
      1. It's very easy to find new bases fast in this game, I might be mistaken but it looks to me that they are roughly at the same place every playthrough and even if not they're still easy to find, at least 1. The game even tells you where to look.
      2. So 1 slot in the base will be empty not that big of a deal.
      3. I said that you should only bring the new recruits to this base just for a few days and than after they get lvl 7 send them wherever you want.
      IMO you should do gameplay\walkthrough with commentary I'll watch that, didn't like the 1 without.

    While there is 21 possible class variations, there are actually more ways to use them if you count the random perks. The random perks is way more important in the late game since its the best way to increase damage with the same equipment.
    I had a Assault Sniper with Strongman perk. In base defense mission using quickaim+ rapid clearance he single handedly cleared 70% of the mobs in the first turn with the Deceptor minigun.
    Keep recruiting rookies till you find the best perk combination.
    By the way, stealth has the strongest one shot damaged. Even minigun or shotgun will not break your stealth if you are far away. Ex: with 80 stealth they will not see you if you are more than 2 tiles away. Unless some enemies have more perception

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you for mentioning this! And so much YES!
      Minor SPOILER ALERT for those who are still in early game..
      But if you count in also mutations..which also somewhat not only change gameplay but also give some more abilities to use..? Then that number 21 goes up even more!
      And that stresses me out as I want to test them all xD

    • @nguyendi92
      @nguyendi92 4 роки тому +1

      Mariss the mutation feel like a small buff for your soldier in the late game/ faster cheaper way to have armor rather than pure gameplay changes like the class system. I think it is comparable to a new armor system since it also stop you from using mounted slots. The active abilities are lackluster. Like the Psychic scream, it cost 3AP + some WP for a mid range aoe. Using that much AP, I rather shotgun them in the face. The passive boost is actually good though.

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  4 роки тому

      Oh, yea I was looking at the regen part for example - that could replace medkits entirely! Small damage in battle? No problem, any next battle and you are healed back to max.. :)
      Very true about the shooting in face :D I find this part of game a bit annoying - where there is vague explanation of ability that comes with mutation or the same abilities from the spec - but there is not mention AP or WP cost..

    one last tip for everyone. Berserker class is the Siren Killer. A combination of shred armor ability (on level 2 next attack would remove 50 armor at cost of 4 willpower) with mind control immunity (level 6 ... I think the ability name is Adrenaline Rush) is lethal for those snakes.
    Cross-train the Berserker with Assault, give him a shotgun, put this beast in the path of the Siren and he will shave ALL armor from almost all body parts of that snake BEFORE dealing 200-300 points of damage on overwatch. With armor and psychic powers removed Siren threat level drops to just above Mind Frager. Two such Assult Berserkers might kill that thing on overwatch.
    P.S. The Doctor class (Anu psyc attacker) also have group psych immunity ability on level 6 or 7 ...

      Honeslty, once you realise that the head of the siren causes -30 will drain and has ok but not that great health and armour it becomes fairly easy overall. The menace of the siren is at the start when you simply dont have the accuracy or damage to precision the face off in my opinion

    Anu, NJ - 4 Food = 6 MAT(18 Mat)

    This way you can win 4,25 TECH for 2 TECH. Sad, there is no way to win Tech & Mat thanks Base facilities...

    Here's a fun tip. If you evac from a haven defense after killing a few enemies but did not complete it, it counts as mission failed but not really screw you over.
    You retain everything you had, but all injuries are healed meaning you can go back in and use medkits to heal up. Each time you 'go into' a battle the map layout and enemies randomizes, so if you have a 'Scylla' boss or 3 Sirens, just exit and come back and maybe it'll change to something else. Only the leader of the haven hates you for leaving, BUT time does not pass!
    You can technically farm infinite XP this way by killing enemies and possibly looting (grab items from a nearby box and then evac), maybe item boxes resets?

    My one tip:
    No matter the tips viewed, by this gentleman or other people, play a playthrough for worst. Yes its going to be worst. Mistakes will be made. Order of operations needs to be learned as well as the priorities the tip dealers are doling out. All of what they say is 100% of value but they are pros and know the rng better then the game. Therefore it will not run as smoothly for you on Veteren as it does for them on Legendary. Ie. Stealing ANY ship ASAP (difficult AF 😅)
    Most of all....your 1st playthrough youll realize is still just a stone skipping off a lake. So much more, so many more paths and options

      I most cases I would agree to have a 'test run' or worst playthrough as you called it! The main challange for that will be to gather your energy to do it...on...more....time! :D I've played it when it came out, with a LOT of quality of life improvements missing, misbalance, none of the DLCs, and it was quite the journey (tedious, but journey nevertheless)! So now I can't even gather strength to go back and start over all again, yet again with 'test run' scenario that will be exact same game (patches, DLCs, etc) 2 times in a row? I wish you the strength :)

    Pandoran base attack difficulty works as you said, but not really. Read the research on pandoran colonies, it says clearly that TWO lower level bases (I think in game called Spawning Caves) MERGE into a Citadel (that is the harder mission with the creature at the opposite end of the base to kill).

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  4 роки тому

      There are Nest, Lair and Citadel in corresponding difficulties. Nest will have mist generating towers, Lair will have Spawneries and Citadel..I have not encountered yet - but yes, by following info we have it should be something upgrading/evolving from previous bases if left alone and not eradicated. I just don't think Nests can merge into Citadel, you need to have 2 Lairs then..? I'm not saying for sure, as I haven't figured this out yet ;) Any addition info is highly appreciated here :D

    Sorry, but there are a few things you missed, like the fact that enemies also have willpower. drop willpower to 0 and they out of the game for a turn. This brings to the point of Viral Weapons, and the Biochemist perk that turn ANY weapon/attack into Viral Weapon. Viral Weapon infects and do damage to willpower each turn FOR EVERY PROJECTILE HITTING THE TARGET. What I do is take an assault with that perk, give him a shotgun (preferably the Anu one) and put that assault front and center of Cheron (the artillery unit).
    Result:
    That shotgun shot most likely will take the head off (-20 willpower on the spot plus bleed damage), make two of them and that tank has 16-20 viral infection points on that tank, taking it out of the game for 11-15 TURNS
    This is even more important during Pandoran base assault. The enemy's spawn rate depends on number/strength of enemies on the field, so don't kill them, disable as many as you can and move ...

      Trust me - I know there is not everything :D Video is already long and people are always complaining that I pack too much in them :D

    Ditch heavy armour, jetpack is good and all but each piece gives -10 to accuracy which totals -30 percent. with all pieces on This detriment is not worth the added armour or the jetpack ability. Instead i suggest putting your heavy in banshee armour which has the opposite effect of +10 accuracy per piece. nah that is not that ...try a scavenging mission in the mist and one far from the mist back to back. You will see that the enemies outside the mist have no armor and fraction of health of their counterparts in the mist ...
    Enemies do not change their tactics, they just evolve and grow armor. It does not make your old tactics less efficient, you just need to pump more lead into them. You can cook up new tactics to address the armor or you can get a bigger ship to have more firepower. This game is all about tradeoffs, bigger ship = slower travel with longer range. You do you.

    So I have revealed a large area... Found some Scavenging sites and completed some, and skipped some of them....
    Question - Is there some indicator to show that Its looted already? (Other than visiting it and finding there is no mission option?)
    I am constantly forgetting which sites I have already looted, and revisiting them and finding "Oops I did this already, its the one next to I I have not done yet."

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  4 роки тому

      I'm wondering if I understand you correctly..but let me go from start - each site at the beginning will have question mark (?), basically unknown spot. Once you have discovered it - it will 1) give you resources/question and then resources/reputation 2) be scavenge mission where you can have battle and have resources afterwards 3) ambush mission where you are being attacked and you just need to survive 4) it's a haven/neutral city and thus you gain nothing.
      So from all those options - if that is 1) case the icon will change from question mark to the point - which is not worth to visit ever again.. 2) if you leave that mission it will show icon as 2 creates - that you can/should visit at some point and fight, win, get resources - then again the icon will change from creates to point 3) in this case you cannot choose - you have to fight and after fight the icon will be again - point.
      In all these scenarios, once the point of interest is done - it will change icon and will be useless to ever visit again.
      So that should help you figuring out if there is something to do for you or not ;)
      And just to mention - just fling through the points will reveal/start nothing - they will remain as question marks - you need to search the point of interest to interact with what's there.

    • @blackhat4968

      Right the ones I am talking about are the Scavenge missions where I have to fight a battle. Sometimes I dont have time to do it when I discover it. So plan to do it later. What I wonder is am I missing some indicator to tell if it has scavenge mission has been completed? Because sometimes going back and trying to find the one I skipped is a pain finding it.

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  4 роки тому

      Hmm..the finished Scavenge missions should turn their icons also to the points, thus letting you know there is nothing left! So it some site icon is not turning after clearing that area - I'd say that's a bug then! ;)

    I disagree with you about bases. I would recommend base facilities like this.
    All bases should always have living quarters and medbay. Then you need shared about 3-4 research and fabrication plants with about 2-3 satellite uplinks. Later it is good to put in each base mist repeller. You can get by with only 1 alien containment. When you have space and resources you can build food facilities to get free resources (grow food and trade it in havens for other resources).
    One specialized training base is extremely useful. You don't need to use more than 3 or 4 training centers on one base - probably second one you get. After you get bonus tech from New Jericho it makes training centers much better and you can level from 1 to 7 in no time - to finish leveling your troops you need bonus points from shred pool anyway, but basic leveling is quick this way.

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  4 роки тому

      Heh, everyone is touching my training facilities tip :D And yes - you described it more in detail where I failed to do that. those extra training facilities never will be in 1st or even (sometimes) 2nd base - because you will need all other facilities AND there is limited space so 4-6 training facilities will never be achievable in first bases.
      Afterwards, when you have enough research/manufacture/food and other stuff - then in my 3rd or even 4th base I turned it to training base with a lot of Training facilities :) Yes, yes, I did not mention this at that point, but for mid-late game such base is really valuable - fully agree on that ;) Thanks for pointing this out!

      @MLMariss  4 роки тому +1

      I can't say for sure you will be able to keep it at 0, but yes, you can keep it from raising. But I also need to mention - it depends on difficulty level, I believe. @@MLMariss I don't know if you've played Blood and Titanium, the new Phoenix Point DLC, but I thought I would share with you my findings. It now appears that he has changed the ODI into a timer where it goes up no matter what you do. I did a Lair mission, and before doing it my ODI was at 34 percent, then after completing the Lair it was still at 34 percent, even though in the original game it would have fallen to 30 percent. Doing nests only reduces it by 1 percent. I've concluded that doing Lair, Nest and Citadels on Titanium and Blood Legend difficulty is not worth it, the whole purpose of those missions was to reduce ODI and now they don't. So I'm restarting the game on Legend and will focus purely on Story and faction quests and maybe a few haven defenses to see how things go, it is shame he changed the ODI into a timer that can no longer be reduced, because I hate feeling like I'm being rushed through the game.

      @MLMariss  3 роки тому

      And this is the most important question you've got there! Just a brief history - in quite early stages one of the updates made game literally time limited, meaning - depending on difficulty level you have limited time to finish the game or you lose. Of course at easiest difficulties the time was quite a lot, but still finite..and yes - that is exactly the time/update when I stopped playing it.
      BUT later on with a lot of community backlash they did revert the update back to previous kind of state, where if you play smart, fight back, there should not be such hard limit when the game ends (at least that was the way how it was communicated).
      I hope that answers your question and gives even more than you asked for :D

    I strongly disagree with not having multiple training centres early on. Levelling is far faster at base than actually fighting constantly. It makes sense to make your first base a training centre with at least 5. Dump all your spare recruits here until you have enough for a second aircraft. You can always demolish some when you need space for other buildings.

    • @Cervando
      @Cervando 4 роки тому +1

      Point 11 is flawed. Some of the missions to attack other factions are required to advance the diplomacy which will not advance until you complete it. Frankly it is better to choose a faction you don't want to stay friendly with to max out the others. This allows you to raid them for aircraft, resources and research from the one you ate not friendly with. In the early game, stealing aircraft saves a fortune in time and resources. Furthermore, late game you will have no more sites to scavenge, so raiding and trading is vital.
      It is highly unlikely you will get above 75% with all 3. I am 100% with Anu and Synedrion but New Jericho is at war with me and the other factions, as they are by far the most aggressive faction.

    • @MLMariss
      @MLMariss  3 роки тому

      Be aware that answer somewhat counts as spoiler ;) But before that - the mist and base works another way around: the mist spreads all the time and where it is - there can pop/being discovered base. But later in the main story mission (if you choose such approach) you can go the route to fight against mist and you'll be able to research and build in bases another facility, that is called Mist Repellant or something like that - then from that base in specific radius around mist will be pushed 'away' and will never come back.
      Being said that - no, you cannot fight back mist - everything that is outside of that base/facility radius will be taken over. BUT if you build those repellants in every base (and friendly factions will also build them sometimes in their bases) then you will have quite good coverage of the area where mist is pushed back :) I hope that answers your question ;)

I only got into them about 2 years ago with xcom EU and then EW and 2/wotc after i got addicted. I never beat any on legend or ironman of any difficulty and save scummed quite often. Despite this i find this game very easy on hero difficulty even when i have 4 or so sirens on the map and never feel too overwhelmed. To tell the truth my heavy on overwatch is my worst enemy so far having shot several of my troops in the back despite having like 2 percent chance to do so xD.
    I think the biggest piece of advice to combat this isnt to turn the difficulty down its to approach this game very differently to xcom as it doesn't play the same at all and you just need to approach it like a whole different beast.

      Very good point - especially last part, as I have all X-Com experience and if played in similar style, then the problems begin to emerge! I don't know if I would suggest and play on Hero, as that seems to complicate mostly beginning with lack of soldiers and resources. Mid game feels balancing it all out a bit.
      And thank you for your comment - everyone can take this in consideration when choosing their difficulty level :)

      @@MLMariss One thing players really need to be thinking about when it comes to this game is body parts. Its a very unique system that can be taken advantage of massively. The difference between the players that master this game and those that find themselves losing frequently even early on or on low difficulty is likely due to not using this system to its fullest. A good example of this would be the siren enemy, a formidabble foe that turns up fairly early and has enough HP that it can be a real nasty suprise. However, taking advantage of the body part system you realise that by disabling the head it will drain -30 will (its entire will pool) leaving it panicked and unable to mindcontrol aswell as disabling its scream that panicks soldiers, this leaves the siren almost useless for a turn while its panicked making for easy pickings in the coming turns. This is just one of many applications and i think that this system is likely one of the most crucial systems to understand in order to master this game, as well as understanding how will effects enemies, not just your own soldiers.

      @@jacobely6826 Well i use the Bodypart System and have already problems on rookie xD knowing i have to take down a sirens head doesnt help me if they spawn on the opposite of the map with full vision on my team and only my snipers beeing barely able to hit em. my Heavys are such a bad shot, they miss 95% of the time on anything that's farther away than point blank... (there is a 2mm space in the outer circle that's not the enemy? bullet goes there)
      Well Sirens aren't the main issue for me as that would be the charons....
      Attacking every round as soon as the enemy sees me, shooting across the whole map while having enough armor/hp on their "weakspot" that i would need my whole team to hit it just to kill one -_-
      Not to mention that cover is almost useless as it just blasts the everything away i try to hide behind....
      Guess i have to rush vehicles or different heavy weapons next play attempt

      hmm, i always found the chirons to be fairly weak due to most variants just throwing lttle shitty bugs, and they are such a big target that return fire almost always procs on every one of my soldiers that has it (which is usually 2/3rds of my crew) aswell as the fact that by the time chirons come about even my heavies are sniping with that hell cannon. One thing i should mention which you may or may not have already done is ditch the heavy armour for sniper armour. This is because whilst heavy armour is hella protective, it doesnt make up for the huge movement and accuracy penalty. Because of this you should immediately put your heavies in banshee armour as that gives +30 percent accuracy which when you factor in that your heavy was operating at -30 percent and is now at +30 percent, you have just increased heavy accuracy by 60 percent. Furthermore make sure to level your heavies speed, alot of the heavies early abilities are... well... shit. I find warcry and bash damage to be incredibly situational and even still kinda weak. This means you should be dumping alot of ur early points until you get multi class into speed (i manage to get them to about 20 speed) which makes them hugely efficient. Next make sure you take advantage of multi class as its insanely powerful. Heavy cant hit for shit? Assault heavy can now dash right in there and make quick work of all those pesky sirens. Sniper got shitty damage output? Heavy sniper now hurls his entire clip into that damned chiron one shotting the beast!
      Also make sure not to get a full crew of 6 too quickly, 6 level 2's are good but not good enough to combat the bump in enemy strength that comes with it. Once you get to 6 people sirens will come rather quickly and chirons soon after, i usually get my 5th at lvl 3's and 6th when my guys are all multi classed. Hope any of this helps but honestly you should ditch that golem armour if you havent already, it real bad.

      @@jacobely6826 get my 6th? I start with 6 soldiers on rookie 2 sniper/1heavy/3assault. Yea i rushed banshee for my heavy and after that 3 more helmets for my assaults... They still barely hit the broadside of a barn (except for one of my snipers who somehow inherited all the talent of my crew... Headshoting bugs across the map with a pistol , despite having an inner aiming circle that is double the size of that mutant...
      Sadly she cant take all the others round energy for herself too , to do all alone 😂
      What kind of worms do your chirons throw? Mine only got acid and boom so far, either stripping my hit soldiers of their gear by destroying it first hit or directly blasting rm into pieces 😰.
      Dont have the last 2 soldier skills yet (except for snipergirl who just misses her ult)
