Yamaha Pacifcas on initial release (91/92), had, the high-end Japanese Warmoth neck models and Japanese Mike Stern Signature model (with a maple fingerboard). And later Killer 1221 models. So Yamaha are just, returning to this, with the new 2024 Yamaha Pacifcas.
@@trevorD1156 I think that's a bit harsh - it's obvious once you know but I've never seen Yamaha explain it themselves. Love Yamaha. At whatever prices point, they provide high quality instruments. Have a had my eye on a 612 for a long time so very keen to see how these compare.
Do it. I have the HSS and its my main gigging guitar. My only gripe is that the bridge pickup is a little too dark and single coils a little too bright. I've tweaked the pickup heights to correct this as much as possible.
@sandoncrowder7839 It's pretty amazing how nice they are for the price. I replaced the volume and tone for CTS pots and a cap that rolls off treble very quickly for the single coils and that's it. Just picked it up again today and it's still in tune. Love it.
@@Mahdcat what shocked me was how nice the neck feels, I don't typically like gloss necks but it felt so good and easy to play. I'll give back all money for the tours and sessions I've done with them then! The old 912 and 1012 Pacificas were lovely guitars. Mike Stern had a sig one if I remember rightly. They sat alongside the old RGZ, a yellow version of which I seem to recall was gifted to Chappers as a nostalgia trip. Had a friend who sword by his Candy Apple red SE350 back in the day. Great instruments from a great company.
I've always loved Yamaha acoustic guitars. Really anything they sold I bought. Even motorcycles. I might just get one of these. Thanks for a great video.
Glad to see Yamaha return to its roots of making more expensive choices then just the under £600. As a fellow commentary said in here, back in the late 80s, Yamaha made some beautiful guitars past the £1000 price. Wish more people would stop thinking they only make entry-level guitars. I swear, their whole chambering is a massive game changer
Man I love that blue/grey burst at the end with the white pickguard and maple fretboard. Stunning, looks like a shark. I'm a Strat guy, but I look forward to maybe getting one of these. Great sound, great job guys. Cheers 🎸
I have a Pacifica 612VIIX with Seymour Duncan pickups and locking Grover tuners stock and it has inadvertently become my number one. Chris Buck of Cardinal Red helped me get over myself and just enjoy what works for me lol.
On Yamaha Pacifica the lower horn is further away from your fingers than in strat, so you don't bang your knuckles all the time to the lower cutaway like you do on strat, especially if you have bigger hands. And that has always been reason i have loved Pacificas, and of course PAC 904(?? can't remember right now) that had the perfect split hum bucker, because it was made using two actual single coils instead of split hum bucker. That was clever.
I have bought my MIJ 904 new in 2008, the last year it was made. I waited four months for Yamaha to ship it from Japan as they were very hard to get. I also own a custom shop Fender strat, a 2019 Silver sky and a partscaster put together with high end parts as well as my PAC904. I'll let you guess which one is the best of those four. ;)
I've always maintained that the Pacifica lineup and G&L Fullertons are the best kept secrets in guitars. A proper setup and/or mod job and they'll be the greatest guitars you've ever played.
One of the guitars that Matthew Bellamy used at the start of his career, before he had his own Manson guitars, was a Yamaha Pacifica on which he had changed the pickups.
Awesome Price range on the Standard.. both impressive and not to mention the cool guitar playing as usual. I’m ordering for defo ( Blue Standard with Maple Board) Locally of course. Brilliant Standard in the Yamaha range.
I learned on a Pacifica 112. Had it in the natural wood finish as it kinda looked like a Washburn N4 and I didn't have N4 money when I was 14. Still got it and love it. It's the best strat shape imho. has a little more edge.
Great to see a refresh of the classic Pacifica (I have a 611, the P90/Humbucker one and it is great). Interesting to see the price point for the standard at ~1,350 US compared to the ~850 for the Revstar Standard. Really highlights what an incredible value the Revstar Standard is... hope to get the one w 2x p90s in the new year!
It is technically a Pacifica “Standard Plus”, not a Standard, so to equate it with the Revstar Standard is not apples-to-apples…makes you wonder if they will do a Revstar Standard Plus. But as someone else pointed out, hard to imagine what specs could really turn a Revstar Standard into a Standard Plus, as there aren’t a lot of specs differences between the Standard and the Professional…. Edit: also, I have a Revstar Pro with P-90’s. Absolutely get a P-90 Revstar yourself, it’s fantastic!
It's funny that a musical instrument shop like 'Andertons Music Co' dœsn't know the history of brands and models. The Yamaha Pacifica line when initially released in 1990 WERE high-end guitars for pros! They endorsed guitar virtuoso Michael Lee Firkins (and later on Mike Stern) and made the Pacifica guitars that were made in the USA with a price range from 699$ to 2599$! They had 3 tremolo bridge options: vintage (like Fender classic tremolo bridges), Floyd Rose, and Wilkinson. The fingerboard at that time was already compound radius, and the guitars came with Seymour Duncan pickups and/or Di Marzio pickups. The neck joint was a patented one (a bit like the Washburn N4 Nuno Bettencourt signature that came out around the same year) and there were absolutely no heel (!!!) going in the way of the left hand to access the high notes on the fingerboard that could have up to 24 frets depending on the models. So the title of this video makes me smile a bit...
the neck mis sc sound on these is a lot throatier and more balanced than a standard player or player plus strat. i love it. yamaha honestly deserves (and has deserved) a lot more love for their pacifica lines. now, all we need is a pac+ reissue of the EVG.
The guitra seems great. BUT, I think that they could have made them with roasted maple. Cos compared to Ibanez AZ, between both seems very close battle, but that detail kind of gives me the edge for the Ibanez. Cos makes it look more premium and looks good the roasted.
I think Yamaha are one of the most underrated guitar brands out there. You'd be hard pressed to find another manufacturer that offers you more value for your money. The quality of their guitars and their attention to detail are excellent. I own two Pacificas, a 112 and a 311, and I love playing them. Though I do dream of one day owning a "Made in Japan" model! But first, I need to get a little better on the guitar, and I need to save up enough money.
The Pacifica Standard Plus might be my next guitar to replace my trust G&L Tribute S-500. Its either that or trying to save enough to get a G&L Fullerton Deluxe S-500. The Pacifica is way more realistic in terms of price for me though. I recently bought a Revstar Standard with p90s and im completely blown away by it. It is the best instrument in my collection and i really didnt expect the build quality to be that good. Its really incredible. Since im still in my honeymoon phase with it, im really considering the Pacifica to try out more of the current Yamaha models.
Looks like Yamaha heard you Lee when you were saying that they needed to update the Pacifica because it hadnt been done in a long time! See the power you have! lol did I miss Pete's 3 second review somehow? I love those
They look good but there is such a saturated market now that I’d be hesitant to drop £2k or even £1100 when they do essentially the same thing as others; certainly no better. Hard to see an advantage of these over Schecter Nick Johnston. And for 2k I’d rather save some extra and get an S style from a boutique builder. I love Yamaha but for me this is a pass.
Aw What you start play at around 22 is soo sweet: thank you guys (reminding me of some purple rain kinda iteration: am I right?) Me not kidding I bought my own standard plus straight away😉
I'd love to see Yamaha bring back the RGX range from the late 80s. I had a purple 603s that was the prettiest purple colour ever. Yeah, they were "hair metal" guitars, but they were quality!
Yamaha deserves way more love! I just wish the pro version where available in 24 frets and HH or HSH config, and maaaybe a roasted neck? That would seal the deal for me personally! (But im just being nitpicky etc)
I have several Fender Strats, one of them the Player Plus HSS because it has something at a lower price. I can only say that the quality of all the components of the guitar make its price seem cheap. The sound is amazing, The humbucker is very powerful and the Split coil is just as good. The rolled fingerboard, the thin neck, tuners lock and the bridge with two steel dots make it seem better to me than this version both cheap and expensive for much less money.

If you do, do you wanna swap necks? Reverse headstocks for both of us! :)
Nice Job Bro THX
Great guitars
See the power you have! lol
did I miss Pete's 3 second review somehow? I love those
I like the dark warm idea but a little more light might work. Some bare edison bulbs(5) in a line at the top of the Andertons logo perhaps?
Love my pacifica!!
Keep getting Supersonic vibes from the arpeggiated F#m11 chord Pete keeps playing
Lee - great playing man. Wow you’ve improved so much man. Very Beck sounding playing.
I had a shecter Nick Johnson and it was nothing special
I think the rug might be ruining your lighting.
The db monitor screen is hidden behind petes head from the left camera as you look. Shift it 8 inches right for me please 😂
The MIJ is the one with the compound radius.
I wonder if this will lead to an updated line of the Variax standard?
Aw
What you start play at around 22 is soo sweet: thank you guys
(reminding me of some purple rain kinda iteration: am I right?)
Me not kidding
I bought my own standard plus straight away😉
I'd love to see Yamaha bring back the RGX range from the late 80s. I had a purple 603s that was the prettiest purple colour ever. Yeah, they were "hair metal" guitars, but they were quality!
Yamaha deserves way more love! I just wish the pro version where available in 24 frets and HH or HSH config, and maaaybe a roasted neck? That would seal the deal for me personally! (But im just being nitpicky etc)
Definitely my next electrics a pacifica!
Nice sounding guitar
Are the necks mounted with wood screws, or machine screws into threaded inserts? Just wondering.
What we need is nee variax guitars from Yamaha- in the category of the JTVs
Lee’s got ultra boomer bend. Nice playing guys 👍
Beautiful guitars. Yamaha does no wrong in my eyes.
Nice guitar they have made high end pacificas for years
I have several Fender Strats, one of them the Player Plus HSS because it has something at a lower price.
Beautiful guitars, brutal rug.
Love Yamaha but wasn't a fan of that pic ups until the outro jam loved that 😍👍🤘
Sorry to say it but I kept losing my concentration to focus on the god awful rug😢
I had to close my eyes
u haev no taste
is the best rug ever seen
Finally the inlays are back from the 80s❤ waiting for the pacifica with Floyd rose
I like the neck , the 112 seems a little slimmer . Great guitars for the price. Looks like they have a winner .
