If you're wondering why the demos in this video kinda suck, it's because I'm not a good guitar player!
Nevertheless, doing your regular gear shopping through these links supports the channel and makes you super cool

I thought the fusion demo was good though, I mean Jonathan Koh is the fusion demo king but this was still good. I honestly might go learn how to play rosanna now because if this video.
Did you dislike it? No.
Did you like it? Not no.
Am I wrong for taking it this way?
I mean, I think it’s more “This is a good guitar, it’s just not my thing”
Okay, Toto was NOTHING I ever thought I'd hear watching this channel. LOL!! Well done!
A compound radius can be programmed into a CNC router.
Might need a little extra attention with final sanding.
its more about the fret installation, and its way easier to use CNC for the neck radius itself, until you reach the final tiny bit that needs sanding to get out the tooling marks. Your standard fixed radius fretting caul would need to be swapped out every few frets.
Not sure I need a $2000 guitar that can’t do the heffy metals.
If you're exclusively a metal guy I doubt you do hahah
In general non metal guitars are much more expensive than the "metal" oriented ones, also this one sounds like it's made for players who play cleanish tones or at the eob.
Aye man everyone has different needs. I like the sound of the Yamaha I also like metal but I already have a metal guitar so
If it's anything like the Ibanez az prestiges they can do anything with the right setup
it's like..... a guitar to make money 🤔
Love Yamahas. I wish they would reissue the 90's RG and RGX models. Those were some cool guitars. To this day I'm mad I never got one back then.
yes! I had one of those for sometime and even the very entry level ones from the time basically last forever :D
Friend of mine had a Pacifica in the 90s did the punk rock band thing quite well and I like the gear review stuff mixed with other news , topics with the critical thinking and scrutiny. I really appreciate the unforgiving honesty.
I hope to someday add a Pacifica to my guitar collection. Nice playing!
I have a 2010 pacifica and its very similar to how yours is built. I recall they started producing em in 89, most during the 90s were hit or miss wasnt until around 2007 when they started better QC. I got mine from a good friend who owned it for a decade before i bought it and have been upgrading everything (nut was first switched to tusq) and its been fun learning whats underneath
The guitar store I take lessons at has a bunch of those pacificas and they’re genuinely some of the most comfortable guitars I’ve ever played
@@DFlores2009 I'm glad to hear! If they ever let go of one try to buy it as mines just as comfy as my Ibanez but vastly different sound profiles. The pacifica usually gets ran into a 30 watt pignose Amp and it sounds incredible!
@@dethmedic52 Even if they were willing to sell it guitars tend to be extremely expensive where I'm (Jackson js32's go for almost 700$) it would probably be for a crazy price
@@DFlores2009 that's usually why I find mine in estate sales or like Facebook market. They may have problems but I've been maintaining and fixing rigs for years. My Ibanez was 200 bucks used and after some tinkering is worth 700 easily now. The pacifica still needs some things but when I'm done it'll be worth the same as a new one
8:30 crystal blue persuasion on a metal channel. Ok, you win today😅
Hey we've all seen Breaking Bad
A superstrat that holds tune is worth cash money. But I already have a Music Man and a couple G&Ls. And my doubts on those Neve pickups are confirmed. Good work SSTV.
I was very interested because of the RN Pickups, thank you for the demos and going over the guitar.
I understand the point you were trying to make in this video and yeah, it sounds great in this context. Still I‘d love to hear the „bad“ metal tracks to bring over your point sonically. BTW nice CasiOak!
I considered adding a metal demo track to show that it doesn't sound good that way, but that would've left people with an unnecessarily bad perception of the guitar since that's not what they're selling it for hahah.
GShock 4 Lyfe!
@@sevenstringtvGSHOCK 4 LYFE
i like the sound it puts out.. not a fan of the color ,but even still it's a decent guitar...
I like it, thanks for the review!
yamaha make some great instruments! i started out on an old gen revstar and still play it, but i totally agree with the distortion heavy point. even with the older gen instruments, theyve never really been able to handle high-gain, but i find they do cleans quite well
"they gave me this but im not being paid"
how is getting a guitar for free not being paid?
You have a really fucky idea of what "free" means. I've prepped, filmed, and edited two whole videos about this thing, and the guitar I have to show for it doesn't pay bills.
@@sevenstringtv it does if you sell it under the table for cash. Plus the two videos you couldn't do on the guitar without the guitar. You're being paid handsomely. Guitars cost a lot! I can't make a video on this guitar. I don't own it. You were paid with an object worth $1300~, and that object gives you opportunity to make even more money.
I could pay my rent and all my bills for a month by selling that guitar.
This guitars value is likely higher than the amount you are going to make off of these videos too!
@@TakashiToshirou Same pretend "I'm not compensated" all these channels do. FTC regulations make it clear that receiving a free guitar is compensation and must be explicitly disclosed in reviews.
It’s almost like the Japanese guitar company made a guitar that’s perfect for Japanese fusion. Immediate Issei Noro vibes with those tones
You bet I'm gonna be learning some Casiopea and Takanaka on that shit
@@sevenstringtv I’d throw some obnoxious bass over that. Domino Line and chill?
My first electric 7 years ago or so was a Pacifica. Would love to try the new line. Maybe at guitar summit...
But I'm not in the market to buy one as I have an HSS Strat that I love
Are you going to do more reviews in this channel? If so, check out the ibanez grg121 sp if u haven't
The Pro has these differences from the Standard+: Compound neck; IRE-treated body; Hardshell case; Different colors; MIJ
I have always liked what yamaha do with their instruments. Across the board. Started on the saxophone, and have since played their clarinets, flutes, guitars, and pianos. All quality, stand up to wear and tear, and serve a musical purpose. I like this thing a lot more than I initially thought I would. Though I would get the japanese one with that blue burst-ish color and a maple board.
I'm still upset the Standard Plus doesn't come in the blue finish
@@sevenstringtv It does.
Kaylen of SevenStringTV playing Bom chicka wow-wow music . . . err, I mean Smooth Jazz & R&B . . . oh wait, now Golden Oldies . . . on 101.9 FM WWTF! 😂😂😂
Love it! Actually sounds far more decent than you give yourself credit for. We should all occasionally push ourselves outside our comfort zone. Being a well rounded player is a huge asset at times, even when we most guitarists here are best suited at playing in the metal zone! 🤘🏻🎸😎
Yesssss finally the review is outtt 🔥🔥🔥
I'm a full blown Ibanez guy in my heart just like how you used to be a Strat only guy, but now knowing this will truly bring something different to the table than my other guitars I'll have to give it a try one day!
To me it's definitely the Pacifica going back to the roots, before they started making them super lowcost
Ive been majorly fucking with Ibanez lately too
I like your reviews and your approach of using it for a week before making a review. We are a visual species and tend to jump into strat expectations when playing guitars that look kinda like strats.
Damn, that bit of Wonderful Slippery Thing surprised me!
Almost didn't make it into the video cause of how much it sucked lmao
The nut is Graphtech TUSQ. Some high-end guitar like Ibanez JCs use that, so I guess it's ok.
TUSQ is good stuff. I've been corrected by somebody else so I should probably write and pin a comment under this video to correct the mistake.
Looked and felt like plastic and no description anywhere online said anything to the contrary hahah
the yamaha i learned on in the 90s was awesome i wish i still had it.
The issue with current Pacificas is that there are sooo many models and variants. The world desperately needs a UA-camr to review ALL the Pacificas back to back. The pickup variations alone are confusing and the price points vary by over $1400. This review was excellent but someone, please, a back to back comparison!!🙏
8:45 It's supposed to be a Graphtech TUSQ nut I believe. That being said, I have the Pacifica 612 which also had a TUSQ nut and it did wear out after two years of playing. Graphtech does make inexpensive replacement nuts for the Pacifica 012-612 models, but they're very different from the new standard plus and professional models in that the nuts for the new ones are more Fender-style whereas the nuts for the older Pacificas are a hybrid between Fender and Gibson style.
I couldn't find anywhere that actually specified what it was, thanks for the info!
@@sevenstringtv Of course! I was able to look at and compare them in person fortunately as a Guitar Center near me in Texas happened to have a Standard Plus!
I'm sure the nut will last for 10 years, especially if you have more than one guitar.
I've been saying the exact thing about recent Indonesian built guitars that are above a grand in price.
Love the look of it (even the god awfull headstock, it adds character) but at that price to only want to swap the pups out ill wait until one comes up 2nd hand or yamaha send me one for nowt...
Do really like them inlays though and the pink... who doesnt like pink geetars?
Nice vid as always sir
Respect for playing some Guthrie
I live funky guitar sounds. Perhaps they had to save money because of the rest of the guitar. Specially the great pickups and so on. A tusq-nut would be cool.
I reckon it could do metal. Humbucker with enough distortion and some chug is all you need.
This guitar definitely sounds too "thin" and not powerful enough for metal.
Makes it perfect for different music though
8:06 OMG 😱 Crystal Blue Persuasion? I love that song.
It's a cool guitar, but a bit too modern-vintage for my tastes, I'd like to see a model closer to the custom shop pacifica that Jeff Schroeder plays.
I bet that’ll be great for some Gilmore tones.
I like these kinds of guitars
You suppose quite right, better now than never. Namastè.
Oh man, I was gonna buy one too (said almost no one). Love my Yamaha Revstar though! I put a Duesenberg Deluxe trem on it. Gorgeous. But as a strat guy I don't see the point in most strat knockoffs not named G&L or Suhr
That's why I quite literally said it's not a Strat knockoff
Hm, I guess it would be not such a good guitar for blues, right?
I see it being a great blues guitar tbh but I don't play any
It’s a good sounding instrument for what it does , most average people though want to play rock and metal , so this wouldn’t appeal to the average guy , but maybe an experienced guitar player that’s trying to learn a different genera of music . With the price though I don’t feel like it’s worth it. Especially cause it’s gonna have poor resale value . I think most people will pick these up second hand if they want one . Make a guitar that handles high gain metal distortion, along side beautiful cleans . Make the strat look a little tougher, it’s looking awfully feminine here compared to an actual fender strat .
What are you SAYING bro
Your “suckest” demo is your best one! I like the way you did this video. That is a really good way of describing that guitar.
Damn that demo at the end was so nice. I love high gain music, but it was a nice little break for my ears with some mild music.
The Mazda Miata of electric guitars!
So is this made at Cor-Tek? If so it is extremely overpriced for what it is. There are plenty of similar spec guitars on the market made at Cor-Tek for several hundred dollars cheaper.
Despite being, well, here, I'm not actually much of a metal guy. I'm far more into classic rock.
the pacifica shape looks a little weird to me but they seem really nice, still like my pink charvel dk24 a lot more though 😅
Also that toto solo was amazing
I used to hate the shape but I love it now hahah
@sevenstringtv it's really mostly the fugly headstock for me xd
Full cover of CBP with KDH please King Mia ❤
Probably not for me, all this did was make me want a different pink guitar.
A win is a win
The new Harley Benton ST moderns are probably a better deal. Do a review on them
Dude, I got the RSS20, great bang for the buck but these new Pacifica guitars look very bland and I really don't see myself buying one. I think Yamaha has some interesting color choices sometimes :)))))))
I don't get it. Without any frame of reference, I don't know exactly what separates this from a standard guitar. Why not grab a similar guitar to demonstrate what makes this supposedly not suitable for certain styles of music? I can only hear your signal chain in this video. Comparing to another guitar would allow us to hear what the actual differences are. 🤔
You can play death metal on a tele and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I don't agree with his point on that someone might be disappointed by my guitar for a metal guitar. It's not pointy but you can make it chug.
@@donoteatglass I definitely get that. Any guitar can be used for anything if you really want. The idea of guitars being made for certain styles is silly. There's nothing to go off of in this video other than his word though since he's saying it's radically different from a regular HSS Strat. He has examples, but they've got chorus and reverb and a bunch of crap on them. We don't know what he's actually talking about because he didn't compare it to a regular guitar. I made a video recently about why guitar reviews are useless, and this is a great example of that. 😅
All I heard was a heavily processed tone.
I don’t think you will lose your hair when you get older.
Arab genes 💪🏼
Love your content, but why not give us some high-gain rhythm tones on the guitar and let the viewer decide? At this point "high-gain" and "metal" cover a lot of ground, and while how it covers that wasn't your cup of tea, someone else might like it. I have the guitar and like how it sounds with the distortion cranked, especially the clarity, but then I'm going for more 80s tones, not playing djent, etc. Keep up the great work!
I figured I'd leave that out just so people don't leave the video with a bad impression of the guitar in spite of the fact that it wasn't made for high gain music at all
You have no "grasp of how money works" $1,500.00 for an Indonesian guitar is ridiculous. There is virtually no "research & design" the slight variations are done on a computer & to a 70-year-old design. As for labor I'm sure the Indonesian employees only make $2 an hour, even if they made $50 an hour the majority of the work is cranked out on CNC machines. I guarantee you they have a maximum total of $200 in those guitars, & paying for the factories & machinery can't be argued into the price, because they are pushing buttons & cranking guitars out in massive volumes that equal that of the size of their factories.
"I have no idea how manufacturing works or what R&D stands for"
@@sevenstringtv I never said that quote. You start your video off making a claim 1:37, & I was rebutting it.
Absolutely banger comeback bro
@@sevenstringtv it wasn't a comeback, I was trying to have a conversation, but it seems like you have an inability to do so.
You're wrong about a plastic not making any sonic difference, you're also wrong about not being able to get a lot of tones. signal chain is a thing add eq/boost/and the right cab and you can sculpt almost any tone you can think of there are so many ways to do this. The only thing i found deceptive was your thumbnail.
Nobody likes an "Um, AcTUlLy", so don't.

buy an american strat?
No?
@@sevenstringtv Why not?You can afford it for fifteen hundred dollars
What would the point be?
So you could get an inferior guitar? American Strat doesn't come with stainless frets and their tuners/ bridges are nothing special even in the 2k range, if not straight out mediorce hardware.
