Dude, this is exactly what I was trying to figure out. I used 2 2x8s as the "rails" since I already had one. Haha! This setup allows me to stack the parts in the front of the bed, under my 9.6' raft. When I get to the camping spot, I pull out the raft, do the 2-3 minute setup and I'm ready. The inserts are the magic pill! Thanks!
Hi there, I'm a city dude who likes to camp and ride motorcycles. I have been thinking about getting a shell for my truck. Thank you Greg for the great idea!! Simple and smart Sir!!
@@G2Outdoors I did it. I added a 2x4 in the middle because I weigh about 250 but you can still put the board for the table under it and I didn't hinge the middle and just made one piece of plywood so I can pull the whole thing out without taking anything apart and store it. It was a great way to make a simple bed with storage underneath it and I'm super glad I found your video. Archery is 2 weeks away in Pa. and I'm ready. Thanks!
Looks awesome and love the creativity! A small lip around the edge of your pullout storage shelf might help to make sure the bins can't fall off the back of the shelf or get caught behind a leg as you pull it out (if they got jostled around during travel). Might be frustrating to have bins get stuck under there when you pull the shelf out.
Thank you for putting this video together. It is exactly what I was looking for. Something easy to put together, take out & still use for dump runs when not camping😊
I like the simplicity of the bed I'm going to be full-time in my truck for quite a while, now even though I wouldn't need my bed quite as wide but the same concept, did a small cabinetry to fill in the other side for a kitchen perfect, but have a high-rise truck topper that's a benefit but clean and simple I love it
By far the best for your buck overland fun little budget cancer, im a college student with Noone and a ranger, this build has really opened my eyes to just how simple this things can be. Keep up the great content! 👍👍👍
Wow - You have made exactly what I was thinking about. I like to go fishing and you still have room for poles and gear. I really like the space off to the side for cooler and maybe a 5 gal. Water container. The table idea is great too. Beautiful - Thank you for sharing your video.
Thats a great and simple build. Probably as good of a build that I've seen for being effective & simple & fast. Deserves a big fat Wooooooooooooooooooooooo!
@@G2Outdoors Easily second with no other contenders because, well....Adventure Van. I will be watching to see how this project keeps going because these type projects never end. I do have a thought. What if you replaced the screws with some type of drop in pin? Would that make assembly & disassembly faster? Also the hiking pole legs for table was great idea.
Have a 6 ft truck bed. Lock for a way to build over wheel wells. Then have three sections that span over that but third section only used for sheet rock or plywood. When in 2 section mode, sleep camper, and 1 section would allow maybe a stove or dishwasher transport. This is closet to what I am imagining
I Enjoy the simplicity of this project, can easily be done with leftover scraps. It's quite versatile and "user-friendly". never thought to just make a drawer/table out of a piece of planking without actually building a drawer box. You can't get better than that! loving this
Wow, your camper set up is simple and effective. I really like it and I have watched hundreds of videos on how to make beds in the back of vehicles. Nice work!!
Hell yeah. I have a camp cot that I do that with. Save a ton of money on hotel bills. I use my camper top during summer trips to my property. I just wash in the stream and eat in town.cool setup you have
I watched a video where the guy used adhesive backed furniture sliding pads and he attached them to his bin storage pull out. It slid super easy maybe give it a try. Keeping the road dust out is the big elephant in the room! Truck tailgates and boxes fill up with dust.
Just came across your channel, not sure how I haven’t seen it before! I hope to build something similar this winter in prep for spring season. I plan to do a similar half-box setup. Oddly enough I hadn’t considered being able to access items in the drawer while under the cap still. I’m going to steal your lifting hatch and tote idea I think! Thanks for the idea. Looking forward to watching your other videos. Thanks.
Yeah awesome, been looking for ideas for in the bed of my truck, my camper shell is about 6 inches taller, would love to see how you made the mattress I’ll be watching for more, I just subscribed
Did this 28 years ago on my S10 shortbed. But i used 4x4 feet and a 3/4 piece of plywood and it was tall enough to go over the wheelhouses and was the whole bed. Just jammed everything under it and on it. Used a leftover Army cot mattress from ww2 my grandfather had. Sleeping bag and a cheap aluminum cap that had a sliding front window i got for 300 bucks used. The truck had a slider so i could reach into the cab to grab things on the seat. Used it for a few years, including a 2000 mile trip.
@@G2Outdoors It was and my 2 buddies, who were brothers slept on it together during a few storms on a trip we made. I slept thru them in a tent.I eventually went to a 3/4 ton Ford van. That was the best except it was 2wd . But you could throw anything down on the floor and sleep and could crap right there in it too. I bought those Army/ Navy portable toilets with bags and would use a 5 gallon bucket with a lid to throw the bags in. I would either empty the bags out or bury them or sometimes pitch the whole bucket in a dumpster if allowed and just use another one. I always kept a few in the van. Heading up into the N Michigan area one year i went on a 50 mile dirt road that was 1 car wide with no pull overs in that sand. Made me rethink the 2wd deal. A 4wd set up van would be the best.
Excellent project and presentation. The most important part is covered in the first minute and a half. Evaluate one's actual needs and usage before building. As the build progresses a person can ask themselves if what they're doing works toward those goals.
I have the same truck and cap as you and you are about the same size as me..... You might like this suggestion: Take the window out of the cap only section where it accesses the cab. then get a small tube and put it between the cap window and the truck body, leave the rear most truck window when camping and i am able to climb through to access my cab if needed....A set of vice grips locks the rear cap window at the tailgate locked. I like your build better than mine and will update
Years ago I made a frame that fit all the way across my truck bed. Two pieces of plywood that could be removed for under frame access. The frame was the perfect size for a futon mattress, and made it into about my first year of marriage.
Very nice. I liked the hinged center panel and hiking staff supports. I enjoyed your Saddle Hunter and Tethrd podcasts. Will you be doing more of them (for Tethrd)? It’s an excellent listen while traveling for work!
Looks practical & essential. Better way to isolate yourself on long trips than the alternative which is not a very good idea during the times we live in.
Very nice. I have a similar setup in my tundra but mine is permanent. So i dont have to help people move every weekend lol. I bet you can figure out a pin system to eliminate the need for the drill to make it quicker and tool less installation. Also what i did was use an "under bed" rolling storage bin that rolls all the way back towards the cab then 2 smaller bins in front of those near the tailgate. Just more options for other people to think about. I cant access that stuff without getting out tho. Thanks for the vid
I love the simplicity and practicality. I have a similar set up but I like the drawer becoming a table. How do you have hiking extender poles fitted with a bolt on the top that then sticks through the wood's holes? Thanks for sharing.
Really cool and compact design! What is it that's on top of your poles to fit in to the drawer/table? It's a really neat idea, I'd like to try it but can't figure it out!
It's a 1/4-20 camera bolt. Like something you'd have on the end of a selfie stick. There are several hiking poles that come with that camera attachment on top.
Everyone on UA-cam with their fancy set ups. For someone who uses a truck for work and fun this is perfect
That pull out storage platform is *brilliantly* simple! Genius!!
The seven haters of this vid can suck it. This is awesome and im going to build it. Thanks for the idea!
You got it! And I agree... Haters suck.
Was looking for something quick, yet semi-polished, and your setup is exactly that. Thanks bud.
i agree

This is hands down the easiest idea I've seen looking at these videos. Simple and all I need. Great Idea thanks for sharing man.
