As an Industrial Maintenance Technician, I love that they placed Maintenance so high on the scale for importance. Can't tell you how many times an Engineer will design something and place a part that will wear down quickly into a position at which it takes hours to dig down to.
My only concern would be if the batteries go bad after how many years companies and districts tend to keep them we all know school bus engines last forever but batteries don’t
Air ride schoolbus, this is such a great feature over the old school busses and much safer. Well done, what a great product. Will be great to see the V2G capabilities.
The bus itself looks great but I think the battery comportment shouldn’t be on the front. The steering wheel shouldn’t include amber/red and door buttons because you’ll chase them around. We got old international bus and I didn’t like it. And the bus needs underneath storage. Our eLion C has no storage so we ended up using either the last for rolls of seat for storage or the first four rolls. Or sometimes we use other buses that have storage (diesel/cng bus).
my school bus driver friends are really excited to see Electric buses coming, no fumes, quick start in the morning, quieter and hopefully more reliable, makes a lot of sense for two short runs a day, plenty of time to charge the batteries
School buses in other countries are either vans or normal buses with NO flashing lights and stop signs equipped. No need to stop all cars, they just slow down. And yet US and Canada still rely on their outdated bus regulations where all cars in all lane in both directions must stop unless there a big-ass median. No wonder why school bus in the US and Canada cause congestion and pollution from all the cars idling in a long time. School buses stopping traffic can cause delays on transit buses and truck deliveries, they can also cause people to be late at work.
Amazingly Brilliant! I need initial 20 of these school buses immediately in my country & some more later on. Great Product! Greetings from Madang, Papua New Guinea!
yeah, everything is nice pretty looking in the beginning but what about when you have a -30 degree condition with the charging plug frozen in ice and there's no way to charge the bus or when the bus stops due to the fact that's its not charged enough. I'm a truck tech and I am starting to see this a lot on the EV Transport trucks.
Don’t feel bad the rest of the world has engines too. The bus is new. They just designed it California Oakland county is the first one to deploy fleet of electric school buses.
TOUCH CONTROLS? To be honest, I would prefer actual buttons you have to press since it’s possible they would have to be wiped clean and you don’t want those to be accidentally triggered. This is coming from outside the bus industry but yet I do give second thought to stuff as I apply same logic like I would to cars.
Just for the record those electronics compartments look very vulnerable. In fact it is somewhat shocking to see that there is so little between the electronics and the weather. The doors are flimsy and unlocked and there's just a standard looking gasket for the door. It's very dangerous if water or salt gets in there and short-circuits the battery.
WRONG You have no clue what you are talking about. The doors even have a thorough gasket seal to protect the power electronics. "if water or salt gets in there and short-circuits the battery" sure that might happen if the Whole Bus gets flooded. Why do people with zero experience with a wrench post absurd nonsense.
@@cybervision_1 "replace the entire bus yearly" Even the 12v battery they chose is designed to last longer than normal. It's like you want to ignore facts just push some silly agenda.
WTF Stop pushing nonsense, there is no point for a newer company to try to compete with established companies in the Diesel Bus space. You just don't want EV Buses to exist in the first place. If you want a diesel bus just get it from those who already experience at building them. I don't want Facebook to run a Telegram Wire service for me.
FABULOUS. But I'm rather disappointed that there's no provision whatsoever for disabled students to ingress/egress & have a dedicated place to safety sit in a wheelchair. I guess standards must be much lower in Nth America than in much of the rest of the world. Separately, I'm totally flabbergasted that there appears to be no rooftop or ground mounted solar arrays to reduce energy costs, cost of production, and reflect that this is a company focusing on the sustainability of transportation. Surely, this is a major oversight on the part of the company.
Disabled students are usually bused seperately for safety. As this allows for a smaller bus to go door with a lift. The school bus sits high to keep kids above normal car accidents (This is being comprimised by larger and taller SUVs recently.) As such there is no kneeling bus, and the last thing anyone wants is a big bus sitting on a major road while the driver is outside working on a lift.
@@EmperorNefarious1 Thanks. It's slightly different here in the UK as legislation means most public forms of transport are automatically designed to have integrated kneeling and ramp features plus an area dedicated to wheelchair and pushchair users. This isn't to say that we don't have any similar types of disabled transport to what you're describing.
The blue bumpers and rims look hideous. They ruin the appearance of the entire bus. Change those areas back to the traditional school bus color scheme of yellow and black. Then, you might have a decent looking unit.

If the vehicles don’t have a major flaw in the system then it shouldn’t catch on fire but it is always a good idea to have the vehicles checked out before they are deployed. School districts who are transitioning from fuel-based school buses to electric buses should establish a maintenance program to make sure that the electric school buses are in good condition and have them checked out for any potential safety hazards
Probability of catching fire for such low energy density batteries is extremely low. These are not using high performance high C Rating and high energy cells. They achieved better safety by sacrificing range which they don't need.

"REFUSING to insure EVs" Absurd wacky LIE! In most regions BEVs are just marginally more expensive to insure than similar ICE car. "REFUSING to insure" is a blatant fabrication. You clearly do not value the truth.
Stop with the wacky nonsense. It's just a fact most modern BEVs are safer than their ICE equivalent due to a whole bunch of packaging advantages like massive crumple zones. Battery fires are way more rare than engine fire per 100K units. Richard Hammond with broken leg could crawly away from a flaming battery. Not even Usain Bolt can out run a Gasoline Fireball. You clearly hate children because you rather feed them with lies and make their lives worse.
Complete and utter rubbish. Here in the UK, we've had electric doubledecker buses in our county for the last 4 years. No problems whatsoever. No fires, very smooth and quiet to ride on, more acceleration than a diesel and don't struggle with hills. And these buses to hundreds of miles a day, a lot more than a school bus.
Having a vehicle that can be maintained easily is a win.
Glad to see the focus on long term reliability and repair
