Story 6: my parents divorced when I was in kindergarten. When I graduated high school I visited my grandparents with my sister, dad and step mom of 10 years. My grandma went on about how much she loved my mom and missed her. My dad offered to take all of us elsewhere for the rest of the trip but stepmom put up with it so the kids could visit grandparents.

I'm visually impaired. So I can't drive far. I have a phobia of flying. We live in Michigan. My oldest daughter moved to Oregon.She visits a couple times a year but I haven't been to see her. She gets upset I don't come to see her. But I told her before she left I wouldn't be able to. 😞 My story is different than this one of course. But that's why I don't see my daughter much.
My boyfriend actually still has a close relationship with his ex-wife's parents. It's certainly unusual, but it doesn't bother me. She cheated and absolutely burned their marriage to the ground. He and her parents all did nothing wrong and are wonderful people.
Wait what? How does OP's husband have a brother (that was also having a kid) but the MIL from Hell only had OP's husbands growing up? Where did the second son come from?
We had the same issue. We’re only 3 hours away. The problem is o like my family, more than his. They never come down. So on side , my kids don’t k or that side at all.
Roommate gave up her privacy by doing it in the living room knowing she had roommates and knowing she was with roommate’s boyfriend. Cake story. The problem is he bought a cake for himself for her birthday. Knowing she was on diet he should have asked. She would have expressed her feelings and he could have gotten her something else to celebrate her birthday. He was more concerned with himself on her birthday. Every birthday is his birthday.
When you move from family, figure out no one will visit. Not because they don't love you but they just don't prioritize visiting you when you can see everyone all together by visiting them. It totally stinks. But you chose to move.
Story 4 is sort of cultural. My southern grandmother would go se her kids not very often even the ones who lived closer. HER kids came to her. Likewise she went to her siblings who lived where she grew up and left. Her siblings rarely came to see her. So it was whoever moved away had to travel the most. So from Kentucky to Indiana. To Ohio and Illinois. Whoever moved had to visit the most. Not necessarily right but definitely cultural
MIL to be is the problem. There's no way she not only baked a cake with 'Happy Birthday' written on it, but she baked it the day she was going out to celebrate New GF's birthday, and then threw in the line of "I don't know why you didn't work out. She's such a nice girl." passive aggressive gauntlet thrown. That's a lot to step into and it doesn't smell nice. The new GF, should have run, run, run the f*** away from that dumpster fire.
One mom is 3 hours away the other 1 hours we never see them they beg but it's to much effort with 2 small kids and jobs they can't come to us at all I refuse to make that effort
In regards to story 6, it really depends on why and how they broke up to whether you are able to maintain a relationship with the ex. But in saying that you still wouldn't look at inviting them to family get togethers or important events unless it was approved first by your child.
Okay psycho mother-in-law needs to be kept away from that baby and if her son doesn't sack up and draw a boundary that's a problem. Because a woman who could treat a 5-year-old baby like that is a woman who could do some serious abuse. That woman is psychotic and she needs to be kept away from children.
