@@johnarnell4241 I'm in Australia so I love coming across all these video's about canal's being restored, so much positivity comes from it esp for local people and wildlife and aquatic species
Magic to see this taking place. I lived in Gloucester for six years between 1977 and 83 and I had absolutely no idea that there had been either canals going across the Cotswolds or one going to Hereford!
It is not really surprising that you hadn't heard of us. The H&G Canal Society (forerunner of the current trust) was not formed until 1983. More information here if you are interested. h-g-canal.org.uk/about-the-trust/
This is great to see.! Thanks for posting... real progress for all to see - well done to everyone involved.! I also follow the Lichfield and Hatherton too; been a great week for canal restoration progress videos 😃👍💪😎
Fantastic to see and hours after Litchfield and Hatherton canals Trust produce a similar video ! Congratulations and thanks to all involved in both projects.
If you can supply a few hundred fit young volunteers, all with their own barrows and shovels, we could save on the machine hire. On the other hand, our retired professional excavator driver would be a bit upset.
@@hgcanal I'm retired and I now live in Thailand. I could easily get a few hundred young fit and enthusiastic guys and gals to do the work. But they wouldn't be granted visas for the UK, and they would need flights if they were. They typically get $10 a day here. There are lots of canals in Bangkok. Many are used for public transport with quite large and fast 30 KM/hr boats. When some of the less used sections get a bit overgrown thousands of volunteers turn out to clear them. I'm sure we could find a distraction for you driver.
Nice to see progress on the cut, but why is the green flashing light on when the operator of the dump truck is clearly not using his seat belt when standing clear of the machine ?
We are fortunate that the subsoil here is clay, and holds water. The next stretch will not be so easy. We hope to have enough clay left over to line areas that need it.
This is awesome I love seeing the process of restoring canals
A part of the Lichfield restoration was re-watered this week as well.

Thanks. I've just checked out the Litchfield and Hatherton video.
Yeay, Progress!
Great to see. Hope it was a Lister engined pump.
I'm there again this Tuesday. I'll find out for you.
Yes, it is a Lister.
Brilliant
Thank You
I can't help superimposing a few hundred old style Navies into the picture imagining all that being done by shovel and wheel barrow.

Thanks for pointing that out. We'll look into it.
Technology of today, flashing green light to show that the operator has the seat belt fastened, unless you have old machines with no computer onboard.
I wondered why they now had two flashing lights, a green and an amber. I never knew that's what the green light was for.
Will there be no further lining (like the bentonine) in the canal?
We are fortunate that the subsoil here is clay, and holds water. The next stretch will not be so easy. We hope to have enough clay left over to line areas that need it.
Can I ask where did the lister pump get the water from to fill your new canal ?
It came from the brook which flows through the large culvert. This is fed from springs at May Hill, and flows all year round.
