    Clear and effective instructions. Not many trainers refer to Michael Ellis, definitely a guru! Nice work!

      Happy to! We have a 12 mo old Samoyed who is very food motivated and middle finger gifted. Ultimately, he’s delightful and your inspiration will make our relationship even more enjoyable. A challenge his teen brain is overcoming is footwear resource guarding but he seems to be turning it into a game.🙄 He’s living up to his name… Mischievous Charmer, “Rowdy”! lol Blessings to you and your lovely fam!

    Just found you and YES! You are addressing many issues I've wondered about as I attempt to work in the lure-motivation training that was not common in the past (back when I did more focused dog training, it was all voice and leash pressure). You're work on giving to pressure is common in horse training, specifically Parelli, where initially you always "reward the slightest try" then build your expectations as they learn. Also, the slip collar you are using is EXACTLY what I need to make/find! Everything is too thick, making it difficult for the dog to respond to light pressure. Pressure should be noticeable, and even uncomfortable, in order to create a desire to release it. Thank you for your content!

      There are situations where non verbal cues are the way to go - for example in tricks such as dog doing math...I teach to bark once each time I blink after a certain hand cue tells the dog the trick is going to start happening. I use a finger point to my head momentarily which to the audience indicates telling the dog to do the math in his head.
      There's a lot of situations where I would want a non audible command, but mostly an audible is best.

      @@BLACKWOODCANINE I have to admit that I haven't sorted it out yet.
      One example I can use is that on audible recall when the dog arrived, I used the lure signal of using hands down as if offering food,, then the hands move upwards to get the sit.
      Then the "sit after arrival" became an automatic part of the arrival.
      I suppose a audible command to sit would go the same way, becoming habitual without having to give the sit command every time.

    How do you go about fading the lure teaching competition heeling?

    • @BLACKWOODCANINE
      @BLACKWOODCANINE  2 місяці тому +1

      Same as a sit. Install the leash pressure with the lure. In the event the dog gets it wrong help with the leash pressure. Then walk through the rest of the steps. Also, I teach heel as a position not a movement persay. I work everything stationary before I try to move.

    Regarding the Cato platforms, do you recommend getting the same color platform for a pup or having multiple colored Cato’s for using in different parts of the training area? Thanks in advance.

    • @BLACKWOODCANINE
      @BLACKWOODCANINE  7 місяців тому +1

      Don’t think it makes any difference. Don’t the dog will pay much attention to the color.

    Another great video! What about fading the lure with proper eCollar use? My puppy is about to turn 6 months next week so I've been thinking a lot more about fading the lure. I feel like I've over used the lure and now he doesn't do shit unless I pay him or at the very least touch the bait bag LOL. BTW, he's not eCollar trained yet, but he will be soon! I'd love to see you do a video of sending your dog to Place in a distance without any lure, just verbal command and pointing... that's just a selfish goal of mine.

      E collar is a whole nother thing. I’ll do that at some point, but I think luring and leash pressure are crucial.
      I can probably do a short with the progression of place, but we may have one on our IG.
