The Dangers of Your Dog Riding Loose In The Car

The Dangers of Your Dog Riding Loose In The Car
I have a malinois and he looses focus a lot hes six years old this dec and im trying to be better for him but i dont understand what im doing wrong
See... my struggle is that I am not the boss of my home. My dog has food out 24/7 especially because she doesn't over-eat. And when I train her, she is only willing to do what she already knows and what I teach her with some motivation, but its not a quick reaction (so I think she isn't interested enough in the treat) But I have managed to teach her sit, down, stay, shake, and pretty on my own with just treats... But the bigger hurdles like heel, come, and spin are not easy with her low food drive.. (I've only trained her inside the house because she doesn't react to my commands when she is outside, she's too busy smelling and watching (especially with dogs and my family purposefully getting her attention to bother me when I show her tricks off) Not to mention that I am the only one who is trying to train her to a higher level. she's a good dog but not a motivated working dog (despite german shepherd in her blood, (she's a mix)) My family doesn't keep her to the standards I do and she gets treats and better food (human scraps) for a much easier time, sometimes not even working. any tips ya'll?
Maybe chat with your fam and see if they’d be open to you changing her feeding schedule and amount so you can do some more training.
they think she’s perfect the way she is but I can try? My fam has never been strict with her outside of puppyhood, she’s 7 and the only thing we got her trained well on is her collar. We beep to tell her to come home if our shouts don’t get to her, we live in a private area so the woods are her backyard, when she was younger she was a runner, so currently she is much better and comes back almost every time. (But I want to train real obedience so the collar is never needed)
David, can I ship my dog to you … from Europe? 😂😂❤️❤️
Hahaha. Sure!
why shock collar though?
Why not? E collars are phenomenal tools. Using them has been an integral part of training for me. They can be used in amazing ways. At some point I’m sure I’ll do an in-depth vid on them, but look at my video on the K9 remote from Martin Systems. That may give you an idea of how we can use them.
Thank you !
My pleasure.
I got perfect luring but when I pull that lure all hell breaks loose. I am going to try this, have not tried the leash pressure yet.
Works like a charm.
I also like that you stressed that a food reinforcer can help you move the dog into positions you want it in.
I loved the quote: "...give the dog the authority to control its reward". That is the closest statement I have heard to helping people REALLY understand reinforcement training. We aren't trying to control the DOG, dominate the dog, etc. We are making it rewarding for the dog to control its own behavior.
Nice another thing to use my old red cups for. ;-)
As I watch more dog training content, I'm starting to get the impression that dog training is a mastery of gaslighting. You wanna make the dog think they're in charge and it was their idea to do everything you're asking for. And they're in charge of making you give them food/toys.
Bro this channel shoud have millions of subs🎉🎉🎉
Amazing Video !!! You are gifted !
Thank you! 🙏🏿
Love the video. I have a question tho. My 9 week old puppy is still getting a raw diet (this is what the breeder fed) and she wont work a lot for treats. Any tips on how to start engagement training with raw food? Or a way to get ur puppy more food driven?
Don’t worry about engagement at 9 weeks. Let them grow up a little (12 weeks). You can use raw. Freeze little pieces of ground beef and get an easily washable treat pouch like voila (use code: blackwood10)
@@BLACKWOODCANINEthanks :). I was already hyped for starting to train and get Engagement. But she seemed to interested enough. I thought about her being too young still but was also worried about not being interesting enough or something. I will let her grow and focus on socialisation first. Her drive seems to be getting up from each day tho :)
Not interested Enough*
What a deep and thought provoking conversation! God bless you both! Would love to hear more!
I love you, brother! Your thoughtfulness, depth and anticipation of questions is so much appreciated! Thank you for sharing so generously. And your family is such a blessing!
Thank you so much. Glad you enjoy the material. Please share with anyone you think would like it.
David, you are SO good!! Loved your leading with the definition, all the illustrations, wisdom! So deep and practical! Look forward to watching more and more of your videos!!
Wow, thank you! Making more right now.

Huh?
So glad I found this channel!
Thanks for the support.
I watch all the dog trainers for one and a half years now and i must say your content is the best so far. Concise, on point and entertaining. Keep it up! ❤❤
Thank you! Means a lot.
And how long does this process take?
And how do i translate this process to being outside with my dog with plenty of distractions?
Every dog is different, but you can get some stellar engagement in a month.
You start with a somewhat sterile environment, then you gradually start to put your dog in more distracting environments. Honestly, if you do the first steps correctly, the distractions won’t even matter. You rarely have to work them separately in my experience.
@blackwood canine: i got a 14 months old Mal that had a good food drive which it lost though and who does not have toy drive. He just likes sniffing around and his focus lasts 10 seconds at best. I can lure him to do things with cheese or Hot dogs sometimes, but without he gives a crap. How do i build engagement with him?
Change your feeding amount and schedule would be the first thing.
How do you go about fading the lure teaching competition heeling?
Same as a sit. Install the leash pressure with the lure. In the event the dog gets it wrong help with the leash pressure. Then walk through the rest of the steps. Also, I teach heel as a position not a movement persay. I work everything stationary before I try to move.
great video..much enjoyed
Thank you so much. Pls. Share
Wasn’t expecting this to be a commercial
Omg. This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Doggy Yoga, LOL- You are an excellent teacher- and dog trainer ! Thank you fornthe tips!
Thank you for the kind words.
Great video Brother! Love your Maly !! Its obvious you have a great relationship with your Maly- much more of an emotional, affectionate relationship than I've seen with other trainers- thats what im looking for. I dont want a dog thats a robot and has no freedom or personality- i want my best friend to be fit, be disciplined, behave, but also have a good time! Thanks for your tips- I'm going to watch more of your vids!
Thanks man. Don’t worry. It’s really hard to get a dog to work like a robot too. If you are clear with your dog and fair… they usually connect with you very well.
Clear and effective instructions. Not many trainers refer to Michael Ellis, definitely a guru! Nice work!
Thanks! Please share
Happy to! We have a 12 mo old Samoyed who is very food motivated and middle finger gifted. Ultimately, he’s delightful and your inspiration will make our relationship even more enjoyable. A challenge his teen brain is overcoming is footwear resource guarding but he seems to be turning it into a game.🙄 He’s living up to his name… Mischievous Charmer, “Rowdy”! lol Blessings to you and your lovely fam!
😅😅😅😅😊😊😊😊
Good Idea the cup 😊
Thank you! 😊
I'm feeling the vids
I want to know how you teach it
Hmm. It was pretty easy with that dog, but maybe I’ll do a quick one on how to teach it.
Thank you for saying this. We love our dog. We want what’s best for him. It’s so clear that we aren’t a good fit. We are quiet and calm and easy going. He’s tenacious and feisty and full throttle all the time. We can’t control him on walks or at home. He wants to go go go and we are older. We just can’t. He was a traumatized shelter puppy. When we chose him his personality was very quiet and calm, like us. The shelter mistyped his breed. We thought we were adopting a retriever mix. And that’s ok, I don’t blame them. The shelters are over run. And we fell in love at first sight. We adopted him for his sweet and cuddly demeanor. But, as he got older, his personality changed. We had him dna tested and he’s a terrier and herding breed mix with all those wonderful traits. They really are wonderful traits. He’d make an excellent working dog or active companion in the hands of someone experienced. He’s so smart! He’s just way too much for us. He’s frustrated with us and we are at our wits end with him. Yet, we love him. He gets lots of love and good food. But, there’s more to life than that. He deserves more. And so do we. My heart goes out to anyone in this situation. It is sooo hard. ❤️
subbed
Thx!
I had to rehome a dog that I only got 4 days ago from a nice lady. Ive been goign through a lot of things the past 2 years I thought a dog would lift my spirits but instead it became an EXTREME and immediate source of anxiety. Crippling anxiety that made my brain numb out and I was an emotional wreck. I found a nice home for him, thats almost exactly like the home he came from - single older lady living alone with no pets. Has some young granddaughters and a son living next to her. I feel guilt but also a TON of relief. My 12 year old 'soul' dog died only 3 weeks ago and I made a decision based on reaction rather than rationality. I was grieving for my dog and I incorrectly thought that bringing another dog into my life would relieve that. I realizd my mistake and tried to correct it as best I could. I feel like I did what was best for the dog and for myself. Ill always remember Brody even though I only had him just 4 days. I hope he has a great life with his new family.
I love your videos but you don’t have enough subs…keep going dude you are a great communicator
Thank you 🙌🏿🙌🏿 please share!
I expected you to have at least 100k subscribers judging by this vid, the algorithm did good showing me this, youtube needs more of this quality high effort training content :)
Thank you so much. Pls share!
How do you get the meat out of the middle, like at the sections?
NOOO way! My dog will not drop her ball for food! I use her food time to train here with chicken beef sausage, treats etc, but she will not fmdrop her ball to eat. Plus she doesn't always finish her food so my other dos finish hers.
You could teach her the difference but just start with a lower value toy.
Thank you! Definitely your videos need more viewers, this is gold
Thx. I appreciate that! Pls. Share.
David, excellent interview thanks for sharing it!!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Also I love your how to videos please keep them coming!!!
Great conversation. Thoughtful and practical.
I definitely notice my euro dobie is more motivated with a high value treat like raw meat or dehydrated liver or fish
I definitely use raw meat or dehydrated liver or fish that’s when my dobie boy listens the most
My Doberman is very food motivated but if he picks up a sent especially from a female that’s it he has selective hearing 😂 and won’t come I need to go get him
Hahaha. A lot of pups will disconnect for that. You just have to practice the engagement separate then work your way up to that distraction.
My problem is I can’t handle the German shepherd and 2 little kids on my own and that’s a problem because either my kids needs aren’t being met or the dogs aren’t being met, my kids are eating hair and have it in the diaper, the dog is knocking them over and when we travel we have to share a room because NOBODY wants to go near a hyperactive not trained dog that isn’t stimulated meaning she will do anything for you to play with her but my partner doesn’t want to let her go, doesn’t want to rehome her and doesn’t help with the kids but now that it’s a problem he wants to help with the dog only😔 I’m considering separating because I cared for the dog and trained the dog and he would mess up the training so when she got big, nibbling on everyone including the kids, jumping on everyone and knocking us over, I told him I was done and he doesn’t seem to care as long as we keep the dog *he works full time over time if he can* we don’t have the time and we haven’t vaccinated her bc we can’t afford it+ we can’t afford proper training. I hate making her wear a prong collar 24/7. It’s meant for training but my partner doesn’t like to be embarrassed by the dog dragging him. Should I just leave him with the dog and I stay with the kids?🤷🏻♀️
Cool vid
Thx!
Thank you YT for directing me to your channel. By far, the most instructive, clear and entertaining dog training video. Thank you for your time and knowledge. I will definitely be following you for more.
