Excellent video! I love your practical applications and small techniques. Also I think you are very smart involving kids and family examples! Great job and looking forward to learning from your subscriptions
I'm glad I got this YT recommend 7 months after posting, because the wait for the next one would've been a killer. 😭 Great editing, camera work, narration, visual gags, and training advice of course. Hope we get the next one soon!
I loved that you used a poodle in your video. Most trainers use the GS, Roc, Pit etc....more intimidating breeds. It's a bit different when you have a fluffy doodle and all he wants to do is play.
I love you, brother! Your thoughtfulness, depth and anticipation of questions is so much appreciated! Thank you for sharing so generously. And your family is such a blessing!
You are an excellent teacher!!!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with all of those who come across your channel! Also, you have a beautiful family!
@BLACKWOODCANINE I immediately looked you up. I'm just 1 state down in Sonoma County California . I've filled out apps with Woof Rescue and MAD dog trying to figure out how to get more Mal into my life. I'm really looking for that little pocket missile puppy. I've been professionally grooming 20+ years and own my own grooming business. As I am now 40, I want to shitlft my focus to Mals. You're an incredible person and an incredible trainer. I've subscribed to your channel because you kick ass.
See... my struggle is that I am not the boss of my home. My dog has food out 24/7 especially because she doesn't over-eat. And when I train her, she is only willing to do what she already knows and what I teach her with some motivation, but its not a quick reaction (so I think she isn't interested enough in the treat) But I have managed to teach her sit, down, stay, shake, and pretty on my own with just treats... But the bigger hurdles like heel, come, and spin are not easy with her low food drive.. (I've only trained her inside the house because she doesn't react to my commands when she is outside, she's too busy smelling and watching (especially with dogs and my family purposefully getting her attention to bother me when I show her tricks off) Not to mention that I am the only one who is trying to train her to a higher level. she's a good dog but not a motivated working dog (despite german shepherd in her blood, (she's a mix)) My family doesn't keep her to the standards I do and she gets treats and better food (human scraps) for a much easier time, sometimes not even working. any tips ya'll?
they think she’s perfect the way she is but I can try? My fam has never been strict with her outside of puppyhood, she’s 7 and the only thing we got her trained well on is her collar. We beep to tell her to come home if our shouts don’t get to her, we live in a private area so the woods are her backyard, when she was younger she was a runner, so currently she is much better and comes back almost every time. (But I want to train real obedience so the collar is never needed)
Just found your videos, good stuff, and you have a great interaction with the audience. Hope to see more helpful videos like this. Keep up the awesome work. Those dogs are impressive!
That’s a sign that they aren’t really sure of what you want them to do. Maybe try to hold your hand flat and open just let the dog come in and take food off of your flat hand, then gradually close your thumb over the food, then start moving once they are pushing in. Hard to give too much advice without seeing it.
Is this something I can also achieve with a Shiba? I don't have a Malinois and my current dog is a Shiba. I notice she has the speed of a Mal when I ask for obedience before I release her to her slow feeder bowl at meal time. I'm able to lure her with kibble as treats but I just can't get that speed without her bowl. Like her middle, heel, switch to other side, orbit, weave etc. is like greased lightning only when I have the slowfeeder bowl. She won't work for the ball or tug though. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong for the missing speed. Btw I love the way you edit your videos. Your previous videos and this one.
@BLACKWOODCANINE I'm sorry for the dumb question. Would I be able to achieve this by luring her with her food, toss it into her slow feeder bowl, and then release her to the bowl?
Leash pressure may help, but I would probably wait until my dog is hungry or make the lure hand more inviting by opening it up and little and holding it away from my body as I sit very low on the ground. Once the dog is putting their whole face in my palm, then I’d start to make it a tiny bit harder to get the food. Gradually make it harder until the dog is pushing into your hand. They have to believe that they are strong enough to get it. Boost your dog’s confidence by gradually making things more challenging, but just enough that they can overcome it.
My dog does not follow the food in my hand. If I move the food away from his nose he just sits there like “why did you take it away?” And the. He just gets distracted by other things. I think some dogs need to be taught to follow the food. This is the step that that makes me scratch my head when watching all the amazing tick-tock/you tube videos. The tricks themselves are not hard if you can get your dog to follow the lure in the first place. How do you train them to do that?
We touch on it in the video. You first need your dog to push into your hand to try and get the food. Once they are doing that, get them to move one step then mark and reward. I’ll try to do a short to show you.
What a great teacher very easy to understand and follow!
Wow, thank you!
You know how to keep your audience engaged. Great edits. Instant sub.
Awesome. Working on new stuff now.

Maybe chat with your fam and see if they’d be open to you changing her feeding schedule and amount so you can do some more training.

Cool vid
Thx!
This is great content! Please keep it going.
Thank you. Will do.
I definitely use raw meat or dehydrated liver or fish that’s when my dobie boy listens the most

Thank you Mitch! More coming.
I have a malinois and he looses focus a lot hes six years old this dec and im trying to be better for him but i dont understand what im doing wrong
"if you think this could make your dog gooder"😂
100%
My dog tries to bite when I try lure.

You’ll have to bridge the bowl to food just in your hand.
@BLACKWOODCANINE I'm sorry for the dumb question.
Would I be able to achieve this by luring her with her food, toss it into her slow feeder bowl, and then release her to the bowl?
What treats do you use? We are new to training.
For most of our own dogs we use their kibble. For client dogs and sometimes for videos we’ll use The Real Meat Company’s jerky.
Great video. Trying to get my dog to lure, but she just stares at it. I'll try your leash pressure technique. Thanks!
Leash pressure may help, but I would probably wait until my dog is hungry or make the lure hand more inviting by opening it up and little and holding it away from my body as I sit very low on the ground. Thanks. The leash pressure just seemed to confuse and frustrate her.
Great video!!!!
I work with the 4H dog program. I am recommending your video!!
Please keep posting
Thank you so much. More to come.
my dog will absolutely not follow the treat at all. he will do sit and paw for it but he wont follow it. how do i get his food drive up?
Train your dog with his food at meal time.
