I'm kind of surprised you didn't mention the lizardmen and the Blights. Those are a very interesting part of the lore, because Ma'habre was once ruled by the lizardmen. It's also mentioned that Blights (Lizardmen version of new gods) at their peak were much stronger than the current New Gods. Perhaps the reason why humanity could never ascend higher was because they usurped their way into power, stealing Ma'habre from the lizardmen.
The Throne supposedly was created by the Old God‘s so the way of life Humans lead at the moment won‘t change. The Old God‘s don‘t care about meddling with their sentient creations anymore for some reason. Anyway the Throne is a curse in disguise, New God‘s efforts are futile. 5:31 Just a small correction. The key to mahabre, the Cube of the Depths, is found in an altar nearby the God of the Depth's corpse. In fact, one of the hearts needed to open the mouth is within Mahabre. The cube of the depths was originally found in Vinland by Ragnavaldr. It was because he had this item that Legarde inavded his village and part of his reason to come to the dungeon is to recover the cube.
You need all of the hearts to be destroyed for the mouth to open, the hearts are in different location of the dungeon, having them destroyed will make you explore the depths of the dungeon and in doing so, getting rid of the fear that the depths bring, the fear of the unknown. The fear of the unknown generates phobia out of everything you don't know giving ragnavaldr panophobia when he stole the cube from vinland

Fear and Hunger is a game that I simply cannot play, but am still willing to buy and is endlessly fascinating to me. I just want to know, even though I'm certain that the knowledge would give me nightmares. I simply can't play this game, because I feel like I'm actively turning into one of its characters as I play.
@@TheGirlInFandomWorld Which actually makes thematic sense. Like, Fear and Hunger 1 has the traces of Old Gods actively trying to turn humanity away and/or stop them from ascending, while Fear and Hunger 2 has a live Old God inviting you in and daring you to try.
Really hope you do a video on the sequel sooner than later. First game's mythology is cool but a little too under-developed. The sequel does a good job in correcting that flaw and both expanding on and deepening the mythology presented in this game and I love it for that (among many other reasons).
Oh for sure! I’m definitely going to cover Termina as soon as I get the opportunity to fully explore and familiarize myself with that game as a whole. I don’t wanna rush it and risk messing up any information! 🫡
@@SteveWukongplease cover the greater blight (the power or the artifacts(?) possessed by the lizardmen that made them even stronger than the new gods at their (the lizardmen's) prime)
I have a theory about the God of the Depths. He is the god of desire and instinct, twisting everybody who is his domain into a twisted mockery of their desires. Guards are r*aping machines because that is their desire, Trotur is an twisted torturer indulging into his fantasies against the Kingdom of Rondon which he served before, cockroach king is an self loathing hater of progress and selffulfilment, the butterfly want to fly for it is his desire. Crow mauler wants to punish the darkness at any cost becoming a parody of him self. Al of the PCs are just enacting their desires, love, revenge, greed and thirst for knowledge. God of the Depths is the driving force of humanity in the time of F&H1, and people of this time are generally selfish animals. The Meiden of the depths has sacrificed herself as an testament of her desire and instinct to love. During Terming the driving force of humanity is the God of F&H driving people to unprecedented progress by making people aware of the fear and hunger molesting humanity making them more empathetic and making them use technology to solve hunger and avoid fear, which comes to an end by the World war where the progress of humanity becomes a twisted parody of its self, causing an end of an era a ascending Logic as anew driving force of humanity.
i absolutely love fear and hunger’s mythology because its the only example (that ive seen) of eldritch godhood done well, instead of just going into Ooh big cthulhu tentacle monster boss fight, they’re truly incomprehensible & unapproachable (also because its not afraid of going into ‘gross’ stuff. like there is a ridiculous amount of penises in the game…it really adds to the whole atmosphere where organs are just organs)
I've looked into the lore a hefty amount and something interesting that is within it but not talked about, is how the Old Gods are the ascended ones. The ascended ones are just the new vessels for the Old Gods. You can find evidence of this within some of the text about how Gro-goroth walked with man while wearing their skin. Or even just looking at the sprite change for The Girl's Transformation. It appears like a broken version of the Yellow King, being shed to a much darker god.
@@wiswcLife is suffering. Learning to see beauty in suffering is key to enjoying life. Why is Berserk so beautiful? Why did the greeks love tragedy so much?
@@brunoactis1104 Life is not just suffering. There are plenty of experiences that don't involve tragedy or pain. Having loving relationships with family, friends and lovers. Creating/building things to share with others that spread joy and happiness. Hell just being healthy and alive and breathing in fresh air is pretty rad. The narrative you state is at best a half truth. Or absolute bullshit at worst.
This game's mythology and lore is amazing, my favourite points by far. What is very cool though is that a lot of the history of the game isnt explecit at all ; for example, Gro'goroth wasnt only the god of destruction ; he also was the sun god, king of ancient Mah'abre. There are also a lot of interesting points in the second game in regard of the lore, like all the sulfur god schem and the true nature of All-Mehr, who was probably some awfull person.
As someone who's looked into this game's lore myself, this is an amazing compilation of some of the less obviously explored aspects of such a wonderfully crafted world. Another banger video, glad to be able to say I've been here since day 1 🤙
Thank you for making this video with the old gods explaining it aswell that’s such a good touch this explained a lot of unexplained area I’ve had in my head for a month or two
And thank YOU for spending your precious time watching and enjoying the video! I hope you stick around, as a Termina video is coming sometime in the near future.
Wait, the new gods we encounter in the game were not the first to attain newgodhood, they are just the latest ones, for before Valtiel there was Nas'rah, and before him was Betel. The cycle has already been going for quite a while, and even lizardmen had their own gods.
It's implied the cycle has been going on for a VERY long time, likely even before the time of Alll-mer, judging from the fact we find ascended lizardfolk, the brights, in the void. I think the old gods may have left this plane much earlier in time than we think. It's just that all the new gods fade into obscurity and are forgotten, just for the next set to replace them and repeat the loop.
It's been a long time since I've seen such a rich and interesting, genuinely intelligent, inventive and creative fictional universe. I can see inspired elements, but never a blatant copy of other works. Fear & Hunger, Blasphemous and Darkest Dungeon are PEAK Dark Fantasy games.
I like that the Old Gods fear/despise humanity because their consciousness and therefore individuality makes them impossible to control. I can almost see a parallel with Nature. Out greatest gift, conscience, is what makes us essentialy unable to be a part of the greater (perfect) nature. The Old Gods in this game are painted almost as ''forces of nature'' too. Just a thought.
Saw this game awhike back. And was shocked with how graohic sorites got. Like those flashgames of old. I got immense Berserk vibes with the Armor clips i saw. Down to the feel of Finality.

Very much appreciated! Went through a lot of work and effort to make this the best I can, so it makes me happy knowing that my time is noticed and valued!
The difference with our funger god with the old ones is that she won't be just a concept, but an experience that will stay with humanity throughout the course of its lifespan. With her, we can continue pushing forward to fight the inevitable and become more better than we were before. Nothing pushes out the growth in us faster than the fear of basically anything and the drive to feed due to hunger.
Was amazed to see the view count of this video. Quality is very impressive, and the way you word things caught my attention quickly and until the very end. Great job!
I put a lot of time and care into this video especially, so its nice to see it paying off, so thank you! Hope you stick around and enjoy what I cover in the future!
I don’t like to think of Le’garde as an accended god. After all, he achieved godhood through the trials of mahabre, and while the power of the Golden Throne and the Void certainly grants you godly powers, we know through the New Gods that it doesn’t give one the ability nor the incentive to make a lasting impact on humanity. It’s only by confronting the morbid value of suffering that one is blessed with enlightenment and power to rival the old gods.
That's correct! The only two ascended Gods ( revealed in the first game ) are All-mer and the little girl, as Le'Garde or more specifically the Yellow King, is labeled as a New God. Though his goal was similar to that of All-mer in the sense that he wishes to create a new order of sorts, uniting the world together.
What I like about ending D, is that you select a bunch of choices and the "other you" explain how does that affect you and rhe humanity through the ages. You just try to keep relevant to manking to avoid being forgot. That basically explains the life exsitence of every other new god at the hall, who tried everything to escape the being forgotten, which seems to be an inevitsble destiny to every new god
I look at the wikia and i wonder why there's no page for the dungeons itself, there's a page for mahabre and the kingdom but none for the dungeon itself
I don't usually comment but I didn't know this channel is a very recent project with low visibility. Ngl, I'm so happy the game has gotten the publicity it deserves. I do think that Some UA-camrs that have made videos on it have been a bit iffy, but overall it has brought a lot of eyes to the game.
This was less a discussion of the mythology and more a basic description of the ideas within the project. One really can't say that the implications of the concepts were thought out or explored.
Thanks for making this video. I needed an explanation about the Old Gods and more lore about this game, Its just that interesting and I couldn't do it myself.
You're very welcome, but most importantly... thank you for watching! I'm glad I was able to shine some light onto this rather niche category of videos about the game.
To me it was more challenging than the Souls series & Elden Ring. To get a S ending, you have to plan everything carefully. Darkness is real. Starvation is real. All resources are precious. Even eating rotten foods is sometimes a necessary evil. There is no "tutorial" that treats you like a 8 year old kid who has played a RPG game for the first time in your life. You actually have to LEARN how to play the game by dying from your every mistake. Even if you have all necessary weapons and armors, you can still be killed by one coin-flip. Yes, the coin-flip. Could you believe there is a RPG that luck is actually a determinant factor? I felt like playing D&D with my old friends all over again. The game is a textbook example of dungeon crawler game. Yeah, the game is relatively unpolished and has a lot of bugs, but it is still a masterpiece. I am sure both FAH1&2 will be played by more gamers in the future. It is THAT good.
This was a great video. If I may offer some criticism, it sounds like you're reading a school project out loud. Kind of like an up and down tonation. Well, actually, Fear and Hunger doesn't sip from the same berserk's fountain like other dark fantasy rpgs, like dark souls. Miro(Happy Paintings) said himself that the only inspiration he took from berserk was while creating le'gard, which he took inspirations from Griffith, although, trotus was probably inspired by berserk too, but the only confirmation we have is Le'gard.
I mean, that might be the only “intentional” reference but conscious or not the whole game is full of Berserk’s essence. Arguably way more than something like Dark Souls honestly
@@brandonmunson9781 I was more so talking about the general concept. Gods just do what they were “born” to do and no one really blames them for it. In Elder Scrolls, Khajits describe the Daedric princes as “kittens” because it was just in their nature to cause destruction and havoc, and no one really blames them for it. But yeah, Grogoroth and Mehrunes Dagon feel very similar. You could also draw a similarity between dibella and Sylvain. Even Sheogorath/Rher, but it could also be argued that they’re very basic concepts for gods in general.
@@wisdomnada3069 I see what you're saying. I reckon that they're just encompassing broader concepts, thus being coincidentally alike, rather than taking inspiration one after the other. Like I stated before, the only one that seems oddly similar to one another is Grogoroth and Mehrunes Dagon with respect to their inherent desire to cause destruction. This destruction also not plotted for diabolical reasons, but to bring destruction & revolution so that the world may be reborn anew (in Dagon's case -- Grogoroth seems the same, but his lore states that he walks in disguise observing humans and I am 99% sure that a Daedra such as Dagon would not necessarily do as such).
It's the opposite, humanity in the context of F&E can't live up to the "perfect" standards, like with Sylvian i.e the Goddess and Personification of Love, being disappointed at humanity being incapable of reciprocating her love, and being incredibly delusional from the eldritch deity' incomprehensible perspective in general.

Hey, if this is a scripted video do you mind having subtitles? I would love to hear what was explained if i could understand most of what was said 😅 it's hard to grasp esp for people like me who have auditory issues and the narration wasn't really clear
You should check out a game called “Roadwarden”. Almost entirely text but what very little imagery you get is impactful. It’s set in what I would describe as “the Witcher universe but everyone is just barely not eaten by the giant monsters” with some splashes of Conan, GoT, and of course it’s own unique world setting. *it’s worth mentioning that “dragons” are dinosaurs alongside a variety of other even more cryptic descriptions of monsters. There is an entire encounter with a water-monster-man-creature which sticks out as setting the world to be well beyond what people there know about* It feels like you walked down a street of a city, for the entire game. The entire thing is bait for a very interesting series and I hope they get the funding to continue.
2:56 demanding sacrifice and destruction is pretty damn evil, you're not just talking about killing for food and natural death anymore, like do you even hear yourself?

I'm kind of surprised you didn't mention the lizardmen and the Blights. Those are a very interesting part of the lore, because Ma'habre was once ruled by the lizardmen. It's also mentioned that Blights (Lizardmen version of new gods) at their peak were much stronger than the current New Gods. Perhaps the reason why humanity could never ascend higher was because they usurped their way into power, stealing Ma'habre from the lizardmen.
And the Lizardmen didnt even know what they were doing, the lizards were old by the time man knew how to become gods
The Throne supposedly was created by the Old God‘s so the way of life Humans lead at the moment won‘t change. The Old God‘s don‘t care about meddling with their sentient creations anymore for some reason. Anyway the Throne is a curse in disguise, New God‘s efforts are futile. Only the Girl can become strong(?) enough to challenge the Order of the Old Gods, and impose cruelty and suffering on Humanity to force them to produce technology that greatly diminishes Fear and Hunger of the majority of humans, making their lifes more comfortable
RIGHT WHEN I SAID "YOUR REWARD" A AD FOR TREATMENT RESISTANT DEPRESSION POPPED UP VEO THAT WAS FUXKING AMAZING

Just a small correction.
@@orabijuu8550what I meant to correct is how he said that within the god of the depths lies the key to mahabre, when it's the other way around. You need to explore mahabre to enter the god

Fear and Hunger is a game that I simply cannot play, but am still willing to buy and is endlessly fascinating to me. The lore, the setting, the characters, the intertwining tales... they all freak me out, but I can't help but get drawn towards them. I just want to know, even though I'm certain that the knowledge would give me nightmares.
I simply can't play this game, because I feel like I'm actively turning into one of its characters as I play.
Become what? A floating head that insults gods?
@@Miggy9 "Better to be half-man than half-crisp!"
Fair point. As I was playing the game, I had to take breaks because I felt like I was losing my mind with the characters.
Fear and Hunger 2 is... slightly more forgiving? It's more accessible than the first.
Also the new gods represent ambition, instinct and basic needs became ostracized when ambition started ruling men. Thats my two cents.
Logic? Really?
i absolutely love fear and hunger’s mythology because its the only example (that ive seen) of eldritch godhood done well, instead of just going into Ooh big cthulhu tentacle monster boss fight, they’re truly incomprehensible & unapproachable (also because its not afraid of going into ‘gross’ stuff. like there is a ridiculous amount of penises in the game…it really adds to the whole atmosphere where organs are just organs)
Yet another work that showcases the beauty in the struggle. Long live Fear and Hunger.
Amen to thay
Struggle isn't the same thing as suffering, this is just suffering
@@wiswcLife is suffering. Learning to see beauty in suffering is key to enjoying life. Why is Berserk so beautiful? Why did the greeks love tragedy so much?

this games mythology is rlly what hooked me, im SO intrigued by it omg. excited to see u potentially discuss the second game!!
Thank you for your excitement, I hope I don’t disappoint! 🙏🏽

Fear and Hunger is what drives humanity.
I kinda really fell in love with the lore of this game. It's so thought provoking
Appreciate the way you put this together, keeping explanations quick and concise and following it up w a look at the game's art style
The mythos and religious practices of the F&H world are the most interesting parts to me.
Thanks for shining a light on it for youtube.
Absolutely amazing! I love how you kept the analysis to information only obtained from the first fear & hunger as to save termina for later, Can't believe you don't have more subscribers! Can't wait to see what you put out next!
Hey, you did a really good job with the editing and production value, props man
Very much appreciated! Went through a lot of work and effort to make this the best I can, so it makes me happy knowing that my time is noticed and valued!
I like how every ending is canon in some way
A mythology that makes me sob but I’m also deeply in love with
So heartbreaking yet so, so good... The game and lore behind it is addictive!
Great job!

Awesome video! Really loved the editing of the video and the music you went with.
Tried my best to add some appropriate music, especially having it all come from the first game! Glad you enjoyed it! 💜
moonless is a hellsing reference
Wonderful!!!! Subscribed, keep at it man!

Always love seeing your work my friend 💜 your voice is so cut out for this type of content. Cant wait to keep seeing you grow!
Nash rah burning new goods is a highlight in any playthrough
What I like about ending D, is that you select a bunch of choices and the "other you" explain how does that affect you and rhe humanity through the ages. You just try to keep relevant to manking to avoid being forgot. That basically explains the life exsitence of every other new god at the hall, who tried everything to escape the being forgotten, which seems to be an inevitsble destiny to every new god
You explain everything so well, really great video!
Thank you, I really hope you stick around and enjoy what I have planned in the future!
I look at the wikia and i wonder why there's no page for the dungeons itself, there's a page for mahabre and the kingdom but none for the dungeon itself
Hopefully it gets expanded on more in the wiki, but they’ve done an amazing job so far with what’s been available!
Fear and Hunger 3 should go back to fantasy.

Dude, wtf, this is an amazingly well made video and only has 32k views? That's a crime.
I don't usually comment but I didn't know this channel is a very recent project with low visibility. By the editing and explanation I would've thought you were making videos for a couple of years now with a loyal fanbase. Great video, I watched a few youtubers play this game and a couple of video essays and I got enamored by the lore and design of the creators and gods. This made me appreciate the game even more, thank you for the video
This means a whole lot, so thank you for enjoying! I hope you stick around and continue to enjoy whatever journey awaits us on the channel. 🙏
I was one of the few people who played the game before it reached the US when it was basically all russians lmao. I love this game and it’s sequel so much and seeing videos about Funger in English was surreal, glad it’s gotten to the west ;)
F&H has been such a treat to play, so I can imagine the excitement and joy felt from seeing it resurge across the globe. It's well earned for the care and skill put into these amazing games!
Ngl, I'm so happy the game has gotten the publicity it deserves. I do think that Some UA-camrs that have made videos on it have been a bit iffy, but overall it has brought a lot of eyes to the game.
What particular youtubers are you talking about?
Such a good game. I hated it. And then loved it. And hated it again...
The menu music and the Ma'habre one are carved with fire in my head.
I played both games back in January. Glad it’s been blowing up so much

This was a great video. If I may offer some criticism, it sounds like you're reading a school project out loud. Kind of like an up and down tonation. There are moments later in the video where your sentences sound more like natural dialogue and that made it feel like a much smoother delivery. I offer this criticism bc I see how much effort was put it the video and I hope to see the channel grow. Best of luck. Subscribed

From what I’ve read and listened to gro was the god of death & decay and was a truly neutral entity acting without malice or Ill intent only doing his part of the cycle of life decaying the dead solely to make room for his wife sylvian to be able to create life once again through rebirth I think attributing destruction to gro makes him seem like he has I’ll intent.

I'd love for you to explain the mythology of the second game!
The Norse have three Induviduel God-Homes:
1. Asgard for the Aesir
2. Vanaheim for the Vanir
3. Jötunnheim for the Jötunn, known as Giants to the most of you (but Jotunn doesn't mean "Giant". Jotunn is it's own Name)
Bro i fricking loooove this game and its sequal!!!
I feel like Ma'habre is meant to be pronounced like macabre. Like, "Ma-hobb".
Nilvan feels like a slight push to the player to keep trying. I doubt it was intentional, but her being the endless soul, believing anything can be accomplished if you try enough, sounds like a little push for us. Yes its a brutal game, but keep trying and eventually you can win
Feels very darkest dungeon done sort of final fantasy or something.

Cant help but feel like these gods were somehow inspired by the Elder Scrolls series. They feel very similar in concept
Beside Grogoroth and its connection to Mehrunes Dagon, who else was inspired by TES?
The story as I see it: delusional gods keep having to deal with humanity's bottomless willpower
Most humans are subservient, what willpower are you talking about lol?
It's the opposite, humanity in the context of F&E can't live up to the "perfect" standards, like with Sylvian i.e the Goddess and Personification of Love, being disappointed at humanity being incapable of reciprocating her love, and being incredibly delusional from the eldritch deity' incomprehensible perspective in general.
you're so real for the spoiler warning

I can certainly try and figure out how to add them! I want to ensure that it’s as inclusive as possible for everyone. 💜
Ah yess demented finnish game.
But why take the girl to the abyss when she could of just sat on the chair…make it make sense
There is an entire encounter with a water-monster-man-creature which sticks out as setting the world to be well beyond what people there know about*
It feels like you walked down a street of a city, for the entire game. The entire thing is bait for a very interesting series and I hope they get the funding to continue.
Will definitely add this to my list! It sounds rather interesting, and I’m all for my text based games.
