    5. Being busy doesn’t mean being successful (you might have terrible personal life)
    4. Things happening to me vs things happening for me ( don’t play a victim, look out for silver lining)
    3. Once I have this or that ... I will be happy/ successful ( once I lose weight, or find the love of my life, or get promotion). Think how would you feel without those things. Who would you be without a career? Separate yourself from labels.
    2. Failure is not the end, it’s the beginning; you can always start anew
    1. Take pride in little things you accomplish

I used to really struggle with not getting to the end of my (usually unrealistic) “to do” list until my elder wiser psychologist sister gave me the following tip. She said to create two side by side lists - a “to do” list of things that need to be done today, your priorities and a “wish list” of things you would like to do if you have time today but tomorrow will still be fine if you don’t get to them. I now always finish my “to do” list then get to cross off things from my “wish list”. It also means if I am having a bit of a wobbly day I can just stop at the end of my first list and not berate myself for it.

I love the "this is happening for me" mindset. When my boyfriend of 3 years broke up with me a few years ago, I didn't realize it at the time, but I had really dodged a serious bullet. We were going to break up sometime, and I'm glad it happened sooner rather than later. You usually can't take hold of it in the moment, but "time really does heal all wounds." Or 98% anyways. I don't think it's very helpful when someone says it TO YOU in a time of crisis because I think it's something you need to come to terms with on your own, but having the sense that there is a way to grow from even the worst of experiences is so helpful.

I'm trying to help my older brother change his mindset right now. It's hard stuff. I wish there was something I could say to make him get it, but I think it might be something he has to come to on his own. I remember what started my entire journey... a few years ago I was 20 years old and living with my boyfriend of 2.5 years. Things had gotten kind of rough, we bickered a lot there towards the end. But one night I woke up and he wasnt in our bed and when I called him he said he was moving to Seattle. So there I sat, alone in my apartment, packing boxes 10 hours a day for a week, and I just thinking "I dont deserve this" .. but then I specifically remember one hot summer night, I was packing up my vinyls and I realized that this was making me a stronger person! 'This! Here, right now! After this I will be someone who has been through this and come out the other side!!' And I had a smile on my face the whole rest of the night. It had become a labor of love. And I've never looked back.

I had a mindset of "financial success isn't for me - I'm supposed to struggle to survive". (Why? IDK) I've been in the process of changing that for the past year. To be honest, about 90% of the time I'm faking it until I make it, but I'm making double what I was this time last year, working less, and doing work I find really engaging. I'm excited to see where I am when I fully integrate this new mindset.

The mindset of things happening FOR you and not TO you is so powerful.. even if you surviving something is the only silver lining that is something. At 21 I was diagnosed with cancer... super sucky... but what is gave me? Is for the last 26 years I can say I survived cancer I can do 'xy or z'! That is amazing and powerful. And even at the time (1993 was way before the inspiration of social media) I didn't see it as 'poor me' I saw it as something to overcome.

When I do something not on my to do list, I write it on my list and check it off. It gives me a more correct sense of my day. I can tell myself, "I didn't get everything done on my list, but look what I got done!"

The first and last mindsets you mentioned really resonate with me and my experiences. I use to think being busy equated success. Every summer up until 2019, after classes had ended, I would pile on a bunch of activities: summer classes, jobs, volunteering, etc. I was afraid of being alone, so I would distract myself by over scheduling my time, not making time for self care. I was so unhappy. At one point, I even took a job that made me feel miserable just so it could take use up my time. If I wasn't busy, I would feel unproductive.
I spent two years working for a job that gave me great experience but did not ignite my passions and interests. When I quit, I spent a whole year exploring what types of careers really interested me. Now I'm working for a research lab that brings me so much joy and makes me feel like I have a purpose. I'm working on being alright with not doing as much and taking care of myself mentally and emotionally. Videos like yours help so much, and by watching your content, I have come a long way.
Thank you so much for your wonderful advice!!

All of this is something I have learned recently! A year ago I was in a job that I thought would be my dream job but it was unsatisfying and I felt undervalued. I decided to quit and move back in with my parents and had a lot of judgement from people about not having a future plan, I felt like a failure. That was 4 months ago and I've focused on my self care each day, worked hard on my daily mindset and I'm feeling like my creative self is thriving again, I've learned so much and I'm also starting a new job! Starting to see it as the best decision I made for myself :) Thank you for sharing your experience and making me feel like I'm not alone! WE GOT THIS xox

I’ve been really struggling with having a positive mindset lately, I’ve been guilty of having the the victim mindset. After listening to this I realised that I need to start filling my mind with good knowledge and truthful wisdom.. rather then allowing my mind to take over and go on it’s own journey. I would consider myself a very positive person, but I had allowed the negativity of what was going on around me to shape my mindset. Thanks Carrie! Started following all the social media’s, as the way you speak about these topics is light and relatable. ❤️

This video is what I needed. Sometimes I feel that I put a lot of pressure on me, lately I feel very frustrated with the way my life is happening, I feel like I want to do a thousand things but there is always something that gets in the way. Two years I left the university and I did not find a job so thanks to my parents I had the opportunity to study a specialization, since it was something that they told me I needed if I was looking for a job, now with the specialization I still can not find a job Monday through Friday, all my cousins, friends and even my boyfriend have full-time jobs from Monday to Friday. I almost a year ago with my specialization I started a small brand of products for a life with less waste so I make bags for vegetables and fruit or bulk producer has not been easy and in many occasions I find attacks from anxiety or a lot of stress for what I hope to achieve and what I think they expect from me.
Your videos and podcast help me in these times when I feel that I am still deciphering myself and what I have to do in life. Greetings from Mexico.

But just keep going on and don‘t focus on the bad things which are in the past. I think it‘s awesome that you started your own project with the veggie bags. Keep up believing in you, you got this!! That’s exactly what I needed to hear! I’ve been living in the UK for almost six years and I have my true friends here, my partner and our dog. Due to some circumstances my visa expires in January 2020 and won’t be renewed until October 2020. At first I felt like a victim, I was so frustrated because I was about to lose it all. But then, I realised that I could use these months to my own benefit, get some new experiences and acquire new skills. So, now I'm planning to live my best life in Barcelona and enjoy it, rather than feel miserable that I have to leave the UK. That’s a mindset change.

Thank you for your words, Carrie.
Your words helped me elevate my mood and journal my feelings today. 🙏 Tomorrow is my birthday, (I turn 25) and I was feeling low because I’m not where I want to be and I realized it was because I always place emphasis on things in the future that will bring me joy rather than the current place I’m in. I didn’t even realize it was a bad mindset I had but now I’m aware and want to change it.

My mindset change that I'm working on: Being happy with where I am in life. I totally felt when you said that you had a million things you had to do and never realized that you had already accomplished so much. Currently I am working on taking my life back from my "hamster wheel" mind and learning to relax and be happy.

firstly i love this video and i definitely took notes lmao.
the whole 'checking off boxes on a to do list' thing REALLY helps me out on a daily basis, especially when i'm going through a depressive episode. i'll start my to do list with simple things like 'get out of bed' or 'drink a glass of water' or 'shower' bc when you're depressed those tasks seem like the most daunting tasks in the world. but! being able to do even one of those things and checking them off makes it seem like you're getting so much done! it's all about baby steps.
one mindset change i'm really trying hard to implement in my life is writing down the good things that happen to me every day. it's also one of the hardest things i've ever done bc in trying to make this a daily thing, i've learnt that i self-sabotage by thinking like 'no i'm in a bad mood and even this tiny good thing doesn't matter, i don't want to think about it. i just wanna be angry/sad/mad/etc' and that's such a toxic way of thinking!!! but the more i bring light to the little things, like you mentioned in this video, the more i feel connected to my life in a positive way. and then i don't even have to seek out good things that happen, they just kinda come. :)

Thanks a lot for this video! You always give me some new perspectives and a little push to go through things or try something new. The most inspiring advice today was that is not useful to think about failing and better think in about new opportunities. Because I broke up one year ago with my ex boyfriend and had a really hard time after but because of that I found the courage to change my whole life and focus on things that I really love. So I didn't stop, I continued changing. And there were a lot of good changings, which I would have never lived without the first step in the beginning. Thank you Carry, for your inspiration ;)

Great content Carrie... I have begun to write ‘daily wins’ everyday to ensure (and look back on) myself what I have achieved each day. One thing I need to work on is how be more positive about anything challenges that may come my way rather then think ‘why is this happening to me’

Number 1 and Number 5 are my favorites. I feel much more accomplished if I focus on one project and get as much done on that as I can during the day, then jump from thing to thing in the interest of staying "busy", although, I will take time off from my bigger project to paint or draw. Speaking of feeling accomplished, I think taking time out at the end of the day to remind ourselves of what we accomplished, even if it's small, can be very helpful. I remember reading that psychologists tell parents that if they praise a child for putting away one toy, rather than criticizing him for the "huge mess" in his room, it makes the child likely to want to clean up more. Why wouldn't acknowledging our own small wins have the same effect?

My primary mindset I try to get out of is thinking critical thoughts about myself. For instance, sometimes when I'm tired and slow about getting out of bed I commonly find myself thinking, "Get out of bed, you lazy thing." This is pretty tame as far as a negative thing to say to yourself, but I know that I'm not really a lazy person, and it sets unreasonable expectations for myself to pretend that I am just because I didn't jump out of bed the instant my alarm went off. Maybe I'm not lazy, I think. Maybe I'm just tired. And that's okay. There's always room for self-improvement and self-criticism, but I try to stick to being critical about things that are ACTUALLY a problem.

I think these are all great mindsets but on the second mindset I would add that when bad things happen to you it's normal to feel down and angry about it, and wanting to curse every God you know for it. After letting out that frustration, it's easier to see the bright side and what blessings it brings in disguise. This is true at least for me. I couldn't be all happy go lucky and optimistic right away if (for instance) I got fired and dumped on the same day.

Hi Carrie, thanks for sharing! #2 resonates so much. it’s so amazing how many humans in the world but having a unique path with unique set of interests and beliefs. when you think about it this way, it’s as if all circumstances and events meant to happen for you and only for you! there is a reason for all of these! and the end result will always be in your favor. lots of love and light.
