    Personally, having a microwave actually allows me to eat more healthily. As a student, time to cook is limited and I'm often getting home super late so doing a weekly meal prep with fresh, healthy ingredients and then having the ease of reheating with a microwave means that I don't reach for the lazy options as much, like ramen or grilled cheese, or just default to takeaways

      Good point! I just see microwaves as a temporary option instead of a go-to. I can see their usefulness in college, but once you have the ability to not use one anymore, I’d 100% step away. I’m not in college, but we parted ways with our microwave a few years ago, and it’s honestly been the best decision in terms of our eating habits. We just reheat things on the stove or use our toaster oven, which is a healthier alternative to a microwave.

      Yes same here 2 jobs school and commute it’s a life saver but maybe in a later point in life less microwave more crockpot meals and just fruit stuff lol

    Hey Carrie! I loveddd the tips in this video! So often I feel like I’m not doing enough for my health or not being “healthy enough” so I love videos like this that remind me hey I’m doing okay! Just wanted to say about the fresh vs. frozen tip that a lot of fruit and veggies are snap frozen which means they are frozen really quickly at their nutritional peak not long after picking. This is often a fantastic way for people in rural areas or with lower budgets to get access to a wide variety of fruit and veg and just as nutritional as buying fresh. Our family has a veggie patch just like your gorgeous one and we grow wayyyy more zucchini’s than we know what to do with in summer! So we grate and freeze them and use for cooking throughout the year. I understand the point you are trying to make with fresh food being better than processed but just wanted to point out to anyone reading that there’s nothing wrong with frozen fruit and veg 😊

    I really like how you say you view you body like a child. That makes so much sense! Exercising and eating right is very much a matter of habit. You wouldn't go to bed without brushing your teeth (more than just every now and again), It should be the same in terms of exercising and eating healthy. :)

    I love that video, and most number 5, I just did it with my life, I get rid of all the things which make me feel bad, stopped spending my time with people who don’t care about me, reading books I love, watching movies I want, share my love with ones that want it.

    Thank you so much for this video. I have kind of been in a weird place mentally that I've never been in before. Stress and work load all culprits of my recent behavior. I realized after watching this that I have lost touch of myself. I am definitely someone that gets happy over the little things. This video grounded me again. We forget to appreciate the world around us. I definitely loose myself if I don't interact with nature. Thanks Carrie! 🥰🌿🌻

    The idea of parenting yourself is so useful, and I think about it all the time. I also like to think of myself as the steward of my future self, so I try to do things to make my future self's life better. So, I save money because my future self will need it at some point. I try to have leftovers instead of eating a whole dish all at once because my future self will enjoy the food just as much as my current self does. I go to bed earlier, so my future self won't be tired at work the next day. There are certainly harmful ways of living too much in the future, but considering my future self on a daily basis makes life a lot easier in the long run, and stops me from making rash decisions for the sake of immediate gratification.

    Freezing veggies and fruit preserves the nutrients right where they are at the time of freezing. Incredibly healthy and often times more nutritious than fresh that isn’t so fresh. It’s a wonderful option for those who can’t afford fresh or it isn’t available in their area or season.

    I, also, do not use a microwave for the same reasons. We stopped a few years ago. Food is definitely tastier and fresher without. Sure, it might be a tad bit more work to heat things up on the stove or have to cook from scratch a little more, but the work/effort is more natural for you and your body. I’ve learned to overcome the idea that food is a “convenience” and realize that being nutritious and eating WELL deserves more effort - but it all feels so good in the long run 🤗

    You really should do more food videos! You don’t have to show everything you eat in a day if you don’t want to (although i loved it when you did those videos in the past.) You could just share some of your favorite recipes. They don’t all necessarily have to be “healthy”. You could do some healthier recipes and call it something like “food to feed your body” and then you could do some less healthy recipes and call it “food to feed your soul” or something like that. Or you could do a video that’s a combination of both and just shares few of your favorite recipes. I used to love your older videos where you did grocery hauls from TJ’s. That’s when I first subscribed to your channel. I remember you doing a grocery haul with Nikki Phillipi too!

    What you said about finding joy in little things, I can hear birds chirping right now, by the way, but I was going to say was, I usually don't notice things like that until I take the time to sit still and not do anything, but listen. My family still has a microwave in our house, but we started eating mostly fresh food a few years ago and we're a lot healthier for it. It's been years since I had a frozen dinner and I don't miss them.

    I know you say that diet is very personal but could you please consider making a video on how you make your veggies fun? awe, I'd love to hear more about why you don't microwave!
    I chose to make my oatmeal every morning on the stove. But I was just visiting my mother and she makes her in the microwave.. I feel like she should switch but it's not like I have any actual reasons.. I guess my reason is that it feels more intimate.

    • @yellowplasticsporks
      @yellowplasticsporks 5 років тому +3

      I think she means foods that are typically made in the microwave are unhealthy like frozen dinners and such. There's nothing wrong with using the microwave for oatmeal or heating up healthy leftovers/steaming vegetables. It's a myth that the microwave absorbs radiation.

The main thing that pops to my mind is that you won’t be able to have as much time as you have now. Carrie, I think your content comes from a good place but is inaccessible for a lot of people. Having a roof over your head isn’t a little thing. It’s literally the difference between privacy and safety, and homelessness. I agree that gratitude is important but I found myself questioning whether or not these tips came from a place of gratitude that is fully grasped. Your perspective is beautiful and you work hard to share it, but it is so privileged. I’m asking you, can we also recognize the people who work hard just to put a fresh vegetable on the table for their family and still manage to feel gratitude-even when their kid hates broccoli?! I’m not arguing that people shouldn’t integrate healthy habits and mindfulness into their day, especially if they have the means to. I’m really struggling with this list because you can define fresh food and a roof over your head as “little things.” 😕

    • @anthipaganou3727
      @anthipaganou3727 5 років тому +1

      I think that, in the end of the day, it is up to each individual to judge what 'little things means' in their life. Carrie mentioned nature for example and I don't think that's previliged at all, nature is all around us, even if it's just a little flower. Plus, I tend to believe that the people who are less "previliged" appriciate the little things even more. My god mother went to Africa last summer to volunteer and she was handing candy to the little kids and they were all so happy! I don't think I've ever seen anyone smile that much when eating candy! So based on each person's condition, we can all find the "little things" hidden somewhere. They may be different for each one of us, but they exist for everyone
