Blair Andrews tbh her prime was in 2012 hopefully she won't become like Catalina Ponor or Vanessa Ferrari because they both were strong in 2012 but weak in 2016 hopefully Aly won't let us down in 2020
Claro Mepa Ferrari wasn't necessarily weak in 2016. I mean if she didn't have that low double pike landing on floor then she could have won the bronze medal. Pretty sure if Ponor didn't have an off day on beam and hit a good routine she could have overtaken Biles for the bronze (as could be said for Saraiva).
@@Aaron-rd3cd that is correct, but I mean based on the other people she was competing with. Ferrari and Ponor are very respectable gymnasts in their prime and now. I still believe Ferrari has potential to get the bronze if she goes to Tokyo
This was by far the best floor routine of her career. She was so perfectly in sync with the music. Usually she was a little too fast but this was perfect!
I keep coming back to this routine. I 100% believe that if aly wasn’t competing in the same era as Simone then she would be considered one of the greats. Second in everything right behind Simone. Just an incredible athlete
This is a very misleading statement. She failed to medal in All Around competition in 5 tries before finally doing it in 2016. This has absolutely nothing to do with Simone, especialy as the only other year Simone was even in the field with her was 2015. And the 2016 field was piss poor outside of Simone, an old and broken Mustafina who couldn't vault or tumble worth a darn anymore (it was the first time she ever beat Mustafina in an AA after 6 years of trying for a reason), Komova not competing due to injury, Douglas a shadow of her 2012 self, Hernandez who had been easily beating Raisman in the AA all year not given a chance by Marta to do the All Around, Iordache out of the Olympics too. That is literally the only reason she won the AA silver in the first place, by virtual default, after missing the AA podium so many times in a row before that, super unusual for an American gymnast in the 21st century. Her bars are absolute garbage, vault is sloppy, floor is great for sure, and beam is average. Hardly a great all around gymnast.
The way the crowd just flows with her music and she just feeds off it is truly something else. She’s got the dance, the power, the emotions, and I’m in such aww of her that I’m literally watching this again 3 years later. Aly deserved every second of that applause, love her
That opening tumbling pass just goes on forever! I almost cried when Aly won her silver! She was robbed of a medal in London after surprising everyone by beating Jordyn Wieber to even make the AA final. She's the scrappy underdog who maybe isn't the most naturally talented but she works hard and has grit and determination in spades. I think she's great! And I hope she's still around in 2020!
misskit123 idk if she was robbed of a medal but it certainly is/was unfair that if two athletes have the same score that they go to a tiebreaker. They don't do that in worlds, hence the ridiculous four-way tie for bars in 2015. But all the same I cried when Aly won her silver
She wasn't robbed. She flubbed Beam then went to Floor and majorly watered down. Hell she could've taken bronze by simply jumping out of the Arabian double tuck in the London AA. I get that this is hindsight, but they played it WAY too safe on FX after her crappy beam set that day. Lucky Aliya!
@@turbojon8117 Aliya had a way bigger mistake on beam than Ali did, plus other wobbles. If both hit Aliya is much further ahead of Aly in the All Around.
I am SO glad that Aly's gymnastics career ended on this wonderful high note. Her routine was in my opinion essentially perfect. Tiny little hops on a couple landings. Her difficulty level was SO high. One of my true heroes both in gymnastics and in life in general. Love you, Aly!!!
redfire696 I don't think her body will be able make another Olympic run. She's a power gymnast so her joints and muscles probably can't handle much more. She even said in an interview that her body is very achy, not a good sign.
she's also said that she thought she was in the best shape of her life in '12 but proved herself wrong this quad..until she says definitely otherwise, it would be a bad idea to count her out just yet
There will be six spots in 2020. Smaller team (4 members), but there's also a system to qualify an additional two non-team spots. The U.S. is so dominate right now that there's little doubt they will get these spots. The team will be comprised of the top four AAers, and the two extra spots will likely go to two gymnasts who are decent AAers (for alternate purposes) with medal potential on one or two events. If Aly continues, she's a strong contender for both the team and a specialist spot. Things just became a bit more interesting with Mihai Brestyan becoming the head coach for Gymnastics Australia (!!!!). I hope it doesn't change her mind about continuing for 2020. Hopefully they have a system worked out so that Mihai and Sylvie can still be her coaches. Or maybe she'll switch to another gym. A different bars coach may not be a bad thing.
As impressive as it was to see Aly perform her routines with such grace and power, what truly impressed me was watching her lead her teammate in cheering each other on when they were competing against each other. True class. Such a leader!
The way she ran straight to Mihai and he threw his arms around her… that’s exactly what a coach-athlete partnership should be like. Mutual respect for one another. No mental or physical abuse on the part of a coach. You can tell how dear they are to each other. Brought tears to my eyes ❤️❤️
I love her, she is a true champ she has finished in 4th place many times or not qualify to the AA final but she keeps fighting for her dreams, that's why she is very happy here, finally her AA medal😍
One of the best routines I've seen her do! Proud of Simone and Ally. I was sad to see that The Douglas family was not cheering in the stands in this video. But that was their choice. The Olympics did not go the way they planned. But at least Gabby still walked away with a team medal.
Well, this wasn't about Gabby Looking back, none of the other mom's cheered wildly or anything of the sort when it wasn't their child either. They only do it when it comes to the team final. Stop singling out the Douglas family for things that other families do all of the time. Aly’s family don't do anything when Gabby was performing because their focus was on their kid as this was an individual competition.
She achieved beyond great, despite of the struggles she went through with the evil Nazzar. Salute to Aly and to all great gymnast women who battled through. Cheers!
With all due respect and awe at Simone Biles' incredible athletic prowess, I think that Aly Raisman is a better all-around performer. Such grace and control of her incredible jumps. Both of them are all time greats.
She is a true leader and a Legend. Very professional. This routine was just a joy to watch and the emotion because if her retirement was very touching. Makes me tear up all rhe time
You know I don't know how many times I've seen that performance I'm the one in 2012 I'll tell you something I always get chills and it always takes my breath away wow! This is a absolutely great routine and given that I've been coaching gymnastics a LONG time, I don't give such praise undeservingly. There's a few mistakes, like coming in short on the double layout, a few other hops that were fairly well masked, but still there, but other than that, it was top notch. The nailed double pike and the arabian double punch straight, really flew. Great work.
Yeah it’s crazy who peaks at the Olympics versus who is the best the rest of the time. Jordyn was on top leading up to 2012.
