I use the mats (different brand) I always bring the grill up to temperature before putting any food on the mats and they sear just fine. I get great grill marks too. You have multiple mats, so no need to stop clean one between food loads. Easiest thing if using the mat for more food it to wipe lightly (chunks and grease) with paper towels, bring back to temperature (close lid) and then add more food. To clean the mats, let them cool, lay one in the bottom of a dry sink, do not wet, spray with Dawn Platinum Powerwash, let sit for a couple of minutes, use dish rag to scrub a bit. DO NOT RINSE Flip it over and spray, wait and wipe the other side, Rinsed thoroughly lay it in you cooled off grill and close the lid. All ready for next time. Like all things, need to fiddle with it a bit to figure out what works. Best part is that the grill will not have all that crud and build up in it. If you use only these with a new grill, it will stay looking great.

When I cooked baby back ribs on a propane BBQ, the sauce caused a bit of sticking, because I Ieft the ribs on a bit too long and wasn’t watching; but a good soaking in soapy water, brought back the sheet back to itself. It left my grill absolutely clean.

I was thinking of using mat with something I wouldn't normally put on grill like fries or maybe eggs etc. some things that fall through the grates?

Some good arguments in this video. I bought one and tried chicken legs and it came out excellent. What I like about it is all the fat and sauce doesn't fall through the gaps. The grill mat can prolong the life of your bbq. Going to try steak next

I just bought the grill mats. It’s much easier to clean and easy to grill the veggie. The result is excellent with the grill mats. I would say “ yes, buy the mats”. Easy clean up and convenient.

Do the mats get hot enough to char meat? I want to make smash burgers but need it to be a really high temp

I used the Costco mat for the first time tonight on a London Broil. I have to say it was a total thumbs up for me. I was surprised how much faster it cooked the meat, it came out with an even all over bark/crust. I was concerned at how fast the cooking was ( to raw or tough ) but was a perfect medium rare. If you try the mat again fold up some paper towels to soak up the grease, use tongs or a spatula to move the paper towels around the mat, it takes less than thirty seconds. The only downside I can see using the mat is the lack of drippings and resulting smoke flavor. Thank you your video was well done. ( pun not intended ).

Hey Bill! Thanks for watching! Sounds like it worked pretty well for and sounds tasty. Thanks for the tip on the paper towels, we liked the mat just not the amount of work to clean the mat. Feel free to subscribe we love having thoughtful and contributing viewers like you! Keep up the work on the grill!

Would you consider using a dedicated kitchen or paper towel to wipe away the oil vrs trying to drain it off?
If cleanup is the issue, would you try an 80/20'ish process...start on the mat, dab off oil and remove, finish over direct heat? Most of the potential grill mess should be removed with the mat just leaving the charing process for the remaining 15-20%..

Nice video. I have a few questions..
Is this something where maybe the meat can be grilled directly on the grill first to get some grill marks and smokey flavour and then cooked right through on the mats? Im not a pro bbqer and wondering if this might make it better?
Also have you tried cooking something you cant cook on your typical grill? Like eggs, chicken/veal parmesan, hashbrowns etc?
Maybe it's meant for outdoor parties or people like campers who want different meals other than typical bbq meats. I'm trying to think outside the box here lol

My Question is it safe to use this mat on BBQ for health reason , if it is i might use only for fish and vegetable

  • @invisiblekid99

The only things I use a mat for is delicate things like fish etc and things that you risk loosing through the grates, so like sliced mushrooms, onion rings etc.

Is there a grill mat where the only functions are to collect the fats (minimize the fats in fueling the fire) and prevent the meat from getting them burnt excessively using gas grill? The idea is to place this mat (with maybe bunch of punch/or tiny holes)below your expensive stainless or cast iron grill. Meaning the original grate is still touching your burger patty and direct gas fire is trying to get to the meat thru the mat above those triangular heavy steel. We have those expensive gas grills with nice grates but I'm ending up using reynolds alum foils (to make the food better and easy cleanup) and I don't know if they are healthier than these mats.

Got a question for you. When you grilled the mini bell peppers did you remove the seeds and membranes first or did you leave it and eat them whole? I never ate a pepper without first removing the insides but if you are able to just eat it whole than I would be interested in trying it. Also thanks for the review.

Mr. Randolph --- The seeds in bell peppers are soft so I eat them. They might contain some useful nutrition but I don't really know that.

Save time? Uh, just swap out the sheet for one of the other two that came in the package while you clean the other one. How much time did you spend scrubbing down the grill with that wire brush and potentially contaminating the next batch of food with metal wires?

    • @ViewProof
      @ViewProof  6 років тому +1

For us personally, we cook a lot of meat in our family which results in a lot of grease pooling up on the mats, which is a pain in the butt to clean up by washing in the sink. It was a lot quicker for us to heat up our grill to extreme temperatures in a matter of seconds and burn off any residue than to swap out multiple mats and then at the end of the day spend a significant amount of time cleaning all the mats we used. But for veggies and fruit we loved the mat, really retained the moisture!

I wonder what, if any chemicals are transferred from the mat to the food?

  • @johnkenny4414

For your meats, it sounds to me that maybe you should sear it to your liking first and then move it to the mat to finish it off so it's juicy. Should give you the best of both.

Hmm. I guess you just don't like cleaning, is the bottom line. You've said a lot positive part on how it cooks, except when it gets down to cleaning. That's when you said the mat loses. I like my mat just fine. I use over my iron cast grill that's a bitch to clean the most is because you have to clean it thoroughly to prevent from rusting quickly.
