I know this is an old clip I believe 13 years, just wanted to say we lost a great one rest in peace Jeff Beck you sure put a lot of music on my soul through a lot of years. May your family find peace in your passing knowing the joy that Jeff brought to this world.

Thank you for this.. too bad most of the Rod haters don't realize that Rod (still a superstar) showed up unannounced to support his friend after years... no rehearsal... this is pure jam... and I love it.

I saw them at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1969. It was one of the greatest shows I have ever seen. Laying on a hill under the stars with my beautiful college sweetheart tripping on a barrel of orange sunshine... WOW what a night!!!!!

The band he had on Rough and Ready was my favorite. He was starting to go in a more jazz direction. Max Middleton is a great counter to Jeff on these albums.
This is not a great performance! At this point Rod has totally lost it. Jeff seems uninspired and no wonder with this stiff on stage with him.

the music. Stewart was jumpin' around and puttin' on quite a show,so much so that some people thought he was beck! A great performance. Also saw JB with the Yardbirds a couple of years

She's pretty much matched Beck's talents on electric guitar as well on the past 2 or 3 of Clapton's Crossroads concerts I've seen on PBS. That's saying something, and you can tell she has the master's approval when they play duos together by the smiles flashing between them. It's like they're having the best times of their lives, which they likely are.

I did not go to either. My most memorable ever though, has to be the first Ann Arbor Blues Fest, the same weekend in '69 as Woodstock. What a show that was! All the great living blues acts were there; actually, the only big name who wasn't there was Hooker (I bought my $6 ticket to see him at Labor Temple, but he didn't make it and they substituted Dr. John). I did see CCR at the Mpls. Armory, and Paul Butterfield at Dayton's 8th Floor. Went to a show at Midway Stadium: Baldry, etc.

Love their version! These two still hold up well...Harkens back to when I thought Rod was cool. Their version was the best, better than the original, IMO, though it pains me to say it... Two Brits outdoing the best of American music? It's a tribute to Howlin' Wolf and Willie Dixon...The Beck recorded version has that drum beat...Really primal and spooky.

The Strat has a more defined tone so the individual notes are more distinct. They are better players than they were back then so they want the music and notes to speak for them not a huge distorted sludge that smacks you in the face.

You couldn't be more wrong. Look at all the existing photos from '68 & '69. They all show Jeff with a Les Paul and the one that he used had a very distinctive flame top with wide bold flame. The only other guitar that he was ever pictured with from this time was a Tele with a 12 string Dan Electro neck on it. While in The Yardbirds Jeff heard what Eric Clapton was doing with a Les Paul and a Mardhall and like most British guitarist at that time fell under the spell of a Les Paul - Marshall combo

Rod was a little crunchy around some of the notes but to see them together again was just great. Truth is a weird album. Old Man River? But what is good on it is as good as it gets. And Aint Superstitious was a great cut. Mixing 3/4 with 4/4 in a blues song. The album was like a bolt of lightning when it was released. Mix of hard rock, authentic blues, with inventive and interesting arrangements and Beck playing as well as anybody on the planet. Stewart was unknown at the time but his voice was perfect for that band. Oh Yeah Ron Wood on bass.

Really?? You were there? There were some great acts that came to that venue! Savoy Brown played there, great show. The one thing I clearly remember from the Beck show is that Stewart got quite frustrated with the faulty PA, and at one point threw the whole mic and stand across the stage. Don't think they ever got it right. You didn't happen to catch Zep at the Guthrie did you? That was another historic Mpls show......imagine it....Zep in all their glory, playing before 1440 people.

Jeff Beck is a rock God along with vocal God Rod (didn’t mean to rhyme). Still sounds unreal 40 years later x

Hey - didn't see this before and thanks again for getting all of this - man I wish I could have been there! You really made our day and love this song. I have waited 40 years to see these two do this number together again and fantastic to see!

In an interview I read shortly after Les Paul's death, Jeff Beck said his problem with Les Pauls is that they are just too darn heavy.
