No, not expected, but always hoped for... September of 1995, I saw Jeff Beck, with Santana, and Rod Stewart was the headlining act... I hoped and prayed for them to join together for this song, but neither one joined the other to do this song... It just didn’t happen; and yet both played the song in their sets...???? 💔🙁

Cincyrocked…you said it just as I was saying…sooo very cool, mutual-respect admiration and no egos. Since when does that happen with musicians? Ok, since these two entered our lives! RIP Jeff old friend. “The sky is surely crying”. We’ll be ok down here for awhile anyhow. Nothin but love.
I have seen similar reactions when other friends joined Jeff on stage, like Jimmy Page. I think Jeff's ability in bringing out the best in his partners on stage is just unmatched.
As long as I have been listening to Jeff Beck, I would never have guessed he was 78. He was brilliant and timeless. The world is poorer for the loss of his sound. RIP, dear Jeff.
Curtis Mayfield wrote that song in 1965 when he was with The Impressions, from the title track on the album, ironically, "People Get Ready." If you want to continue believing European Americans and Europeans were writing gospel music for African Americans, that's all you.
Sorry, Ben, but Kevin is correct, the song was written by and first recorded by the great Curtis Mayfield, well, I guess Kevin already said that. This is such a wonderful song. I love the Jeff Beck/Rod Stewart version, and also love the original. Curtis Mayfield is stellar.
Charmaine Sims Curtis was so great at distilling the perfect elements together. The idea of the train over Jordan appears in gospels and spirituals prior to this, though, since there were trains really. Curtis just took that imagery to craft one hell of a piece. Deceptive, appearing simple, but you really have to be in control as well as in the groove. I remember one hot bug bitten night a bunch a musicians and folks all decided to be hot and bug bitten around the bandstand on the Common, our only big public park for miles, and folks were just rotating in and out singing or playing, adding verses, morphing one song into another, and I remember a very old spiritual suddenly becoming this, and then becoming Leave it There or something. I think the nuns even rolled over one of their old upright pianos from the old convent across the way. I think I was about eight. Curtis’s work inspired and filled nights like these, God bless him.
I'd heard that Jeff and Rod had a falling out years ago, before this performance. Don't know if it's true, but if so, to see this happen is incredible. I think Jeff was really taken emotionally. Looked like he wanted to hug Rod a little longer. Man, what a moment in rock history that was!
@@lewisc215 I'm not spreading rumors. I commented that I had heard something. That is not a rumor, it is something I heard. Hard to come up with my comment being a rumor based on how I carefully worded it.
They did indeed have a falling out years ago. I witnessed, at least a part of it, first hand at a small concert setting in Massachusetts in the early 70s. It was plain to see on stage during some of the songs. Not sure who the main "instigator" was but I suspect it was Stewart.
Rest in Peace Jeff, one of the true legends. Their link goes back years including the Jeff Beck Group, and then Jeff ended up passing on Rod's birthday, January 10th.

Jeff Beck gave Rod Stewart his first big break by recruiting him to be his singer in the first two Jeff Beck Group albums 'Truth' (1968) + 'Beck-O-La' (1969). After that Rod joined up with Faces & then proceeded to launch his legendary solo career.... but it all started with Jeff Beck in 1968.

wow I just found this. I was there!! Rod's surprise was priceless. Joss Stone sang that night too. Another unbelievable performance by the One of One, Jeff Beck.
Since most people don't have the ear or exposure to understand the accuracy and musical ability of Jeff Beck, it makes me mad that he is not yet Sir Jeff Beck. No one but no one can do what he does on the Stratocaster. The level of enjoyment to my ears and soul is unsurpassed by any other musician. John Lennon and Mike Bloomfield are a distant second, followed by the great composer Hendrix in this musical genre anyway.
It's kinda like the artists getting into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. It means more to the fans, than it does to the artists. Not 100%, mind you... But the vast majority of the time, the artist isn't really too concerned, but the fan wants the honor bestowed on him/her/them.
Yes, many folks are unaware of the amazing Mike Bloomfield. Too sad about his issues, passing so young, and not being one of the better known guitarists. Folks hear him all the time on Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" and simply don't know, along with Al Kooper on the organ. I loved Blood, Sweat and Tears best, when Al Kooper was vocalist and keyboardist on their first LP, Child is Father to the Man, what a masterpiece.
Al tells the story how he was to play guitar on that song. Bloomfield was warming up, to which Al backed off. Got switched to Hammond organ, which he didn't play. Sometimes work out for the best.

There are two categories of rock guitarists.... Jeff Beck and everyone else. Great to see this reunion, Rod Stewart was a brother. The original Jeff Beck Group '68 was groundbreaking; the prototype for Zeppelin and most of what followed.

Jerry Furst, "da boi", That's the way music is. When the synergy hits, it is amazing. It can come and go though, so if it's not there in any particular moment, sometimes it's best to leave it for a time.
I remember hearing this song when I was younger & seeing the video for it. The guitar playing and the beautiful lyrics really touched me.
I can hear Jeff on the heavenly stage right now serenading God & his angels with this song. And they're rightly pleased.
Heavens band has grown infinitely with his addition. R.I.P, Jeff Beck
JEFF BECK COULD ALWAYS MAKE THE GUITAR SING HIS SONGS. ONE OF THE VERY BEST .WE SHALL MISS HIM GREATLY.HOPE HE PLAYS IN HEAVEN FOR ETERNITY.CONDOLENCES TO HIS WIFE AND FAMILY.
Masterpiece!
People Get Ready........ to be blown away, these 2 make some beautiful sounds.
Yes. Please enter, Mr. Rod Stewart. You, already a legend, is in good company together with another legend: Mr. Jeff Beck and his band. People get ready!
I'm blessed indeed to have grown up listening to these guys, being close in age. Long live Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck.
Now that was bloody fantastic.
RIP Jeff Beck. This was a fantastic concert!
We will never forget....🎸
AMAZING song....and great live performance! Rest in Peace, Mr. Beck....I also love the old original video of this song....great stuff!
Jeff should have wanted to apologize to Rod. The consideration of the person who made the opportunity to meet in surprise was good. I was touched by the reunion scene and I was slightly relieved. Thanks.
ジェフはロッドに謝りたいという思いがあったはず。サプライズで会う機会をお膳立てした関係者の配慮が良かった。再会場面で感動してちょっとほろりとしてしまいました。
I love to listen to Rod when he covers Soul.
