Jeff was almost beside himself when Rod showed up. Such a natural. Rod never sounded better than when he sang with Jeff or with Faces. Jeff Beck makes everything he does, no matter how imaginative, look simply effortless. He let the sound of his guitar be the draw, not himself.

Was Stewart a surprise guest? Beck seemed genuinely surprised when he looked and saw Rod there. Maybe he's just an emotional man. Learning Mr Beck passed a few days ago has left me shocked. I followed the 2022 summer tour of UK and American he seemed a picture of health. Strong, energic, muscular 78 yr young,. Certainly wouldn't know his age by the way he performed, his interviews. The tour ended Nov 2022 and two months later he's left us. Unbelievable. My sincerest condolences to he wife, family and friends.

It was a surprise only to the audience at the El Rey on Wilshire in LA. Jeff & Rod had a rehearsal, though to their credit it sure felt spontaneous. Unfortunately I went the next night, so I missed this magical moment. People in line on my night had heard about Rod’s appearance and we were hoping for a repeat performance, but someone in the know said “John Mayer tonight.” Sure enough, it was.

@@dannyoneil5058 I'd say the closest contemporary Beck had in his age range would've been Gary Moore.
SRV was a beast, but he wasn't around long enough for us to find out where he would've gone.
Jeff Beck went so far down his own rabbit hole that he basically invented a new way to think about the whammy bar.
The way I think of it is that SRV was the final evolution of the Albert King influence, while Jeff Beck is more of the starting point for the shredder generation.
Both great players, definitely could hang. The Albert King influence isn't a slight either, Hendrix was clearly a huge fan too by his bending/licks.

God, this took me back. To August 19th 1967. The California Ballroom, Dunstable, England. With a few friends. I was there for one of the earliest gigs by the Jeff Beck Group. Jeff on guitar, Rod Stewart vocals, Ronnie Wood(later to join the Faces with Rod, and then the Stones) on bass, and the thunderous drums of Mickey Waller. They played two sets of half an hour each, and were paid £115 (about $140). I've never forgotten that night. It was incredible and under the low ceiling of the ballroom, f**king LOUD. Jeff arrived for the gig in a bright pink Chevrolet Corvette with Rod, it was all so Rock n' Roll. And here we have the two of them, in the other California, over forty years later belting out "I Ain't Superstitious" off the first album, possibly even better than before. Still hard to take it in that Jeff is no longer with us. The greatest guitar player that ever walked the earth, and by all accounts a real gentleman. Rest in peace.

Music is the key that can unlock one's inner feeling(s) that reside in some cases, dormant in our souls till that combination of melodic genius meets the refined precision of a master such as Jeff Beck.🎸
He has the ability to reach deep into our souls, and touch parts hitherto unknown. It's an awakening of spirit to be sure, what we choose to do with this gift of course is up to us.
Appreciate, share, marvel at his use of time and space, how he shapes the very essence of each thought, and can transfer his gift to everyone.🎸
Some of us are more fortunate than others, when we can connect with him on a different plain, where he bridges that gulf of time and space, it is a true connection, that we are powerless to control, we revel in every moment, the cadence, the tenor, the timbre of each note can take us to another dimension. 🎸
My heart and soul become one during this embrace, and the feeling is one of pure delight. Thank you Jeff, when you gear up, there truly is a disturbance in the force, and it is heavenly, sublime. Rest In Peace in God's grace, my friend, you are truly missed.🎸

Way back in the 60's Rod was the vocalist in the Jeff Beck Group with Ronnie Wood and Nicky Hopkins on keyboards, check out their 2 great albums,'Truth' and 'Beckola',you won't regret it,they are still 2 of my all time favourites, and they are over 50 years old!!!!

Among all the Great Guitarists of his true Renaissance Generation... Jeff Beck, from the perspective of 'innovation' alone, which itself could never shine without other great skills on the instrument... is rightly 'home' within and among the Echelon of the Greatest Guitarists of All TIME..!

Saw Jeff at FivePoint Amphitheater in Irvine this past Friday night. I finally have my own verification of all the raving I've heard about his shows. He is Paganini with a fine Stradivarius. What puts Rod Stewart on a special list is his respectful, honoring singing of the old standards.

Although Jeff has a reputation for not suffering those who don't have their chops together, he has shown himself quite willing to boost the careers of those he feels meet his standards, regardless of gender, etc. Tal was probably twenty in this clip, but she looks fifteen, but she certainly holds her own with these old dogs. She's a talent--let's wish her, and look forward to a long productive career.
