I am sure this doesn't get said enough I really appreciate all the time and hard work you do putting up these videos
I so appreciate that!!! Also check out my facebook group on this cooker. facebook.com/groups/264734041353275/
Awesome in depth review. You keep bringing new grills! Cheers and can't wait to see that Point cook!
Its 4AM, Coffee is flowing, Its 30f outside, and I'm jacked. Smoke be rolling sooooon...
Tommy another great honest review! Good points covered here. Also a great biscuit test. Keep cranking out the good content.
Geoff, thanks brother and I appreciate the support.
The reason they asked you to check with a magnet is because high quality stainless is non magnetic. ANY gauge steel or iron will be magnetic. It has nothing to do with the gauge which is the thickness.
I was thinking the exact same thing.
Thanks for The Review Tommy! Still sitting on the fence, because of all the issues. I like some of the changes that they made to the larger one.
Tom, I thing this pit is right up your alley.... Mods. Mods. Mods....
The Gallery Backyard BBQ You are correct! Lots of mods....
Excellent! Great video. Thank you for helping me to make an informed decision.
Appresate that. If you have any questions feel free to reach out here, or here gallerybbq@gmail.com
Hey Tommy!.....thanks for the review a d guess they took some of your advice from the previous review on the 560 Mastebuilt thanks for sharing my brother.
Be good brother.:)
Hard to see from the video how the shelf is attached to the front but maybe it could be unscrewed and re-positioned a bit lower to gain some space under the handle?
Very informative. Thanks for the walk around comparison, interesting stuff.
Thanks, brother.
Just an outstanding review comparison Tommy !!! I feel like I know these two units inside out and I’ve never even seen either one !!!!
Terry, Appreciate that and know that means a lot... I shoot strait 100% of the time;)... If you ever have any questions, gallerybbq@gmail.com
The Gallery Backyard BBQ I’ll take you up on that sometime Buddy !! Thanks for all you do !!!!!
Awesome video, great comparison thanks for taking the time to make it
Thanks for the comment.
Nice informative video Tommy. Your reviews are honest and thorough. 👍👍👍
Appreciate that.
Great stuff, thanks Tom. I’m loving your Facebook group and your videos.
Nick. Appreciate that. Thanks for the cool comment!
Looks like a beast of a grill, tons of space on that guy vs the previous one. Despite a few issues, it definitely seems like a winner. Nice walkthrough Tommy!
Thanks, Charley. So far, So good.
Great vid for sure helped out a lot thank you for sure you did go into detail and not just work up this grill and be like it’s the best you were honest even said it’s flaws. Enjoyed the honest review and thanks for helping out on this just like the Lockhart it has its flaws it’s just what works best for you for sure. Have a good one and great vid again
Right on
Good review! Looking forward to catching your next videos! Stay Safe Tommy!
Thanks Brother.
Great comparisons! Love the detail!
Thanks Brother.
Thank you! This is a huge help!
Enjoy!
Good stuff , thanks for keeping it real , nice honest review , first one to point out that wind issues with the coal door and the vent .. ✌️
That's the only way I roll. Thanks for the comment.
Good walk around and comparison Tommy. Right impressive cooker. Thanks
Appreciate that Phil. I'm up, 4 AM and am getting ready to roll some smoke:)... Brisket Point.
Hey Tommy, I love the comparison, I was about ready to buy the 560, but I deem it more of an investment than a toy. My question is what is clearance height from the middle grill to the top of the lid. I like to roast and smoke my turkeys on the grill but I’m concerned about height clearance. Thanks.
How is grilling/searing steaks or burgers on the grill? I have a smoke hollow pellet grill and cooking burgers and steaks don't get the classic sear marks.
Pretty awesome. 0-700f in 13 min..... This pit does it all. IMHO
Very nice walk through Tommy .. The 1050 looks very well built and have alot of room . Hope you all are doing ok stay well stay safe
John, Thanks brother!
Great video 👍🏻. Definitely some great info for those thinking about buying the MB and trying to decide between the two models. Like you said, it’s hard to beat that charcoal smell. Thanks for sharing. Can’t wait for all the upcoming videos. Stay well!
Glad it was helpful! ty
Tommy that was a great review.
Yeah, I would definitely pay extra for the upgrade to a better gauge steel and the other little perks that you pointed out, little compartment in the back to put your temperature probes in, the shelf that pulls out from the front, and the rotisserie.
I can see myself investing in one of those in the future. 👍
I definitely see the advantage of the gravity fed hopper also.
TFS!
Thanks brother.
Right on. Good walk around
Thanks-
Love both your videos!!
Thanks Tommy. Not in my budget, but fun to think about.
Thanks Bill K... Appreciate the comment.
Well I went out and did it Tommy; found the (560) at Walmart for (347.00) on sale ! Cooked a Beer but chicken on it came out so good! Thanks
Do my man. AWESOME. You got my email brother. Any questions. Hit me up gallerybbq@gmail.com
Thanks Tommy interesting as usual. Got my 1050 ready to go. Snowing today first cook tomorrow. Stay awesome
Cool. what you gonna cook?? Im doing a Brisket Point:)... an 8 lb Brisket Point:)...
Just some St. Louis spareribs. Do ya think the lower grate would be ok for them at 225 or do you recommend the middle rack?
I learned/still learning on a vertical smoker which comes with a water pan. Do smokers in this shape typically not come with some form of a water pan? I never see one in this form factor or similar.
Great question. I think because of the design ( vertical ) or like a WSM the water is used more to control Temps...
I have the Blackstone , and pitboss Lockhart but I still feel the need to get the charcoal 560 because like you said I remember as I kid my dad using charcoal and nothing taste better than a charcoal grill!
James. Love the 560.... Cheers
Interesting grill, seems like lot of room. Thanks for the look Tommy!
So far So good. Thanks for checking it out./
Great video Tommy. I have the 560 and there are some nice upgrades in the 1050. I’m glad the price comparison isn’t outrageous. I’m going to run my 560 until she dies right in the Sideyard. Can’t wait to see that point!
Thanks brother. Got the Pit already to go. Using some Fogo Lump:)...
The Gallery Backyard BBQ good stuff. I still haven’t tried lump yet in 560. I have it but afraid of too many little bits falling though and I don’t want to do that grate mod so many people are doing.
Thanks for the review! It has helped me make up my mind about buying the 1050! Masterbuilt doesn’t recommend using the Gravity Feeds on porches or decks? I see you have yours on a deck. What is your opinion on this issue?
I got no probles.. Thanks for the question and also consider following me here facebook.com/groups/264734041353275/
Ordered one today but rethinking it. Been smoking on my WSM for 5 years but wanted something more lazy. Can I get the same results or better on this 1050? Same or better smoke flavor? Thanks!
Yes, You'll get the same results or better. Yoy can add as much smoke flavor as need be. I sold my WSM, Weber Gasser, Weber 18", Weber performer, and 1 of my Pit Bosses. :).... You made the right choice. Follow along here at my facebook Masterbuilt group facebook.com/groups/264734041353275/
@@thegalleryBBQ Interesting. Okay I have another question for you... When briquettes first start burning, they give off all that white or dark nasty smoke. In a grill, you wait for the coals to get grey before putting the food on. With this setup on the Masterbuilt, there's no way around this from what I can tell. So all the smoke we see in the videos out there must mostly be what I am referring to correct? You don't want to breath in that smoke much less have it on your meat?
@@bryanoconnell9303 Sometimes during edit i'll add an out of sequence shot of the grill smoking, If that's what your referring to. When the Food hits the grill the Pit has been on for 20 min or so, (most times) and all that heavy smoke is gone. Most times it's the light blue smoke from the wood that is showing. Hope this helps.
Did you first decide to upgrade because of size or because of features and quality of the 1060. I want one but usually only cooking for the wife and I so the 560 would be ok but I’m starting to think I should wait and get the 1050.
I always gots to get the best, If I can afford it:).... Its a problem!... The 560 will do you right. Enjoy!
Hey Tommy,
Do you have a list of all things you use when grilling?
Fidel. Look in my description of some recent cooks. I have some thing in there that I use on the show. If you need anything specific, LMK.... Thanks-)
How is the grease management and cleaning difficulty?
Another great video! Lots of good information. If you had to keep one grill between your Pit Boss and the 1050, which would you choose?
WOW....That's a crazy good question that seems impossible to answer. 1050:)😜I just love the way this produces food. I love the smell of charcoal rolling at 5-6AM... Its how I was raised. I Love this technology:)...
I am considering this grill. Now that you have had this grill for a year, is there anything about this grill you do not like or is there anything someone might want to know before buying.
Nope. The 1050 and 800 are top of the heap in there price point. Awesome pits
How many racks if St Louis style ribs do you think you can cook in that thing at one time?
560 maybe 4 and the 1050 6.... Depending on size of the rack
Love the vids dude I just ordered one of these
John, Your going to love it. Follow me over here so I can follow your cooks. facebook.com/groups/264734041353275/265938281232851/?comment_id=265943724565640&reply_comment_id=266464057846940¬if_id=1587055938897743¬if_t=group_comment
where did you find it in stock?
Had it a week now, done chicken, ribs and pulled pork. Superb grill, thanks again for your insight it swayed me to buy
Excellent!
Thanks and thanks for the comment.
hello nice video I cant decide which model to buy, is there that much of a performance difference between the two? 560 or 1050 ?
There both outstanding cookers.
Thanks for the review ! Can you explain why you spray down the grill with vegetable oil? Ty!
I can, It helps to prevent rusting. thanks for watching.
@@thegalleryBBQ Especially as the grates are cast iron
Thanks for the video!
You bet! Enjoy.
One thing I have noticed about shelves on the front...I only use them when the lid is open. So that might be the reasoning behind the small amount of room between the shelf and the handle.
Russell, Good Point.
Thanks for the review! Been trying to decide on the 1050 or 560. I’ve got 6 people in my family, so leaning towards the 1050.
Glad I could help! The 1050 is killer.
The Gallery Backyard BBQ just ordered it today
awesome...thanks for that brother! just bought 1050.
Enjoy it my friend. Its an awesome pit.
Hey Tommy! They are both nice! 👍
I can guarantee that a magnet will stick to all parts of both units. It's all Tin......Carbon metal. And with both everything will Rust in time.
A magnet will Not stick to high grade Stainless Steel such as 304/304L and it will Not Rust!
So.......if in the future You are looking at a grill and it says....."Stainless".........put a magnet on it.
If it sticks......it's a crap blend of metals that will rust in time. Metal On Friend! \m/
Thanks Brother. I had it backwards.. Appreciate the clarification. The technology on these Pits are amazing. But I defiantly see problems down the road with materials used. But then again, Time will tell.
You know what's up! Keep up the great work! 👍 Metal On! \m/
I only have an old propane grill and want to get something better. I don’t know the players in this field. If you could only have one grill, and had the $, is there some better than the 1050 you would prefer? Egg, pellet, charcoal?
Jeff, Of course. I'd love a Lone Star and or Yoder :).... That be Stick Burner. That said. those maybe wishes. As far as grills go. I'm right where I wanna be. This 1050 is cutting edge right now.
Jeffrey Lopez I hear what your saying it’s so hard to find something that does it all. I kind of gave that up and looking for a really good gas and maybe this as my smoker. That way if I have ribs or what else going I can still grill some other things on the gas.
Man you really hit almost every question I had between these two grills. Only thing I had left is there more cooking surface on the 1050?
There is...560 sq inches compared to 560 sq inches. I have a brand new 1050 in the garage waiting for me to assemble!!! I love that pit!!
Does either grills have a hole/gromet to insert a probe or are you forced to let it get pinch through the front or side
560 has holes on the left side to run the wires through. Cant speak for the 1050.
Both have holes. Ty...
Excellent Video. Thank You so much for doing thiis! I am interested in the 560 & 1050 mostly for searing as I have a RecTec pellet for long smokes that is more to the wife's liking with less smoke. For steaks and burgers this really seems like where it is at. Can you speak to the warm up times. The 560 is advertised and most people seem to agree ~ 7 mins to 225 and ~13 mins to 700. Will the 1050 get that hot up to 700 and are the times near the same getting there?
Hi John, I also owned a Rec Tec. Awesome pit. I'd say the 1050 will crank out those temps just as fast. This is a pretty awesome piece of technology.
@@thegalleryBBQ I am like you about charcoal smoke rolling. If only I could convince her about it LOL - Thanks again
@@johnponicki7557 Sometimes you just got to say, F it. lol Of course i'm joking.. Enjoy.
Tommy, I have been watching your videos, I know you have the rec tec paired up with the sidekick. I need an honest opinion on masterbuilt gravity series vs rec tec w/sidekick. I can’t make a decision. Please help
I sold my Rec Tec:).... and both my Pit Boss. Pellets can not touch this technology. Hope that helps:)...feel free to sign up at my masterbuilt group facebook.com/groups/264734041353275/
The Gallery Backyard BBQ Thanks Tommy. You just answered all my questions and I will subscribe to your channel right now. Love your videos
Thanks for the superb vids, Tommy! I did my first cook on the 1050 yesterday basically using the 3-2-1 method with applewood. Yum! I noticed in your more recent uploads is that you have swapped out the MB thermometer for an aftermarket that displays temp. Can you let us know what you used and if you would recommend it. I suspect the MB digital controller is off as has been suggested in some of your UA-cam peer’s videos. More temp data is better. Cook on!
amzn.to/38SGIFK ust make sure you choose the colored one:)... it looks better than the white-. Thanks, and enjoy!
Thanks Tommy . I’m on it.
Definitely seems better. You got some good stuff coming up mane, especially a Brisket point! How’d you land that? I never see those sold separately.
Crowd Cow, I even got them to send me a code for 25.00 off first Purchase:) which I'll give to my viewers 💪😃😀🙃I'm doing that video Tomorrow,....I'll be rolling smoke at 6AM..😃
App doesn't work for me so I quit trying about a month ago maybe I'll try it again.
Out of the 3 masterbuilt 560, 800, 1050, which would you buy? I'm torn between 800, and 1050, mostly by the griddle.
Thanks for all you do.
Tough Choie as I love both. Do you have a griddle now, How about family, big?? The 1050 is bigger but the 800 for me is big enough. I love the griddle and sold my blackstone 36"... If u have any other questions gallerybbq@gmail.om
No griddle, family of 4, but love to cook for parties, and get togethers. 22in Weber that I us now, I run out of room a lot when cooking for others.
@@chriscook4951 Get the 1050 and you'll never look back!
Buddy nice Video real informative.. I was purchasing a pellet grill now I’m thinking masterbuilt 1050 What do u recommend
No pellet grill can match what the 560/1050 can produce as far as food.! I sold my Rec Tec and both Pit Boss.
The Gallery Backyard BBQ I own a couple of stick burners , a WSM n a few kettles so I’m going for it .. Thanks for the advice appreciate it .. Do u know if there in stores or just on line
Great review Tommy! The 1050 looks really nice.
Thanks. I'm doing an 8lb Brisket Point in the AM.... I'm super pumped:)..
Anyone near NYC interested in purchasing my 560? I'm sold on buying a new 1050 after this video! I got the 560 in May 2020 and do low and slow smokes about once a month. It's in good shape. Has the cover and 1 probe.
Try facebook marketplace. Its where i sell all my used pits.
Can you actually taste the smoke taste in the meat? You usually cannot with pellet grills.
This ain't a pellet!
First thx for the comparison. What about putting a peice of stainless steel on that that hopper lid because of the paint peal.
Thanks again for the video!
Question for ya Tommy...Trendkill bbq really blasted the masterbuilt gravity fed! He said his hopper blew apart and gaskets were ruined and no response from masterbuilt.. just want your opinion on these grills as i really wanted one
And he received for free or re-purchased a SmokeFire which is pretty much, well lets just say,. not problem free. And cost quite a bit more. Bottom line. The Masterbuilt will outcook the Smokefire or most any pellet grill(IMHO) Its flat out A bad ass pit. Thats what I think:)....
@@thegalleryBBQ thank you Tommy! I fell in love with them when they first came out! I will definitely be getting one!
Around the 9:40 mark or so, I see a lot of ash floating around in the body... is that common?
a lot...?
Hey Todd I went into Home Depot today and wanted to look at Blackstone grills... They didn't have any Thing Blackstone ??????
What's up with that ?????
Bob Cooney
Salt Lake City Utah
Bob. Blackstone is sold at Walmart....check it out
@@thegalleryBBQ I thought you said Home depot.... hahaha, No wonder I didn't see it.... Thanks Todd....
I love my rectec pellet grill but i like my masterbuilt 1050 even better just because you can get both the charcoal an the wood flavor.
Agreed.
Rotisserie set up is a great add on. Good walk-thru😎👍
Thanks Brother.!
Good review!
thanks Clay.
What made you get rid of your 560? I subscribed because of your cooks. But this was interesting. I have a 560 on the deck outside my kitchen. Was thinking about a 1050 for my backyard. I'm still on the fence. Keep the cooking going, though. I just started.
Thanks for the sub! As a youtuber I wanted to show the bigger 1050 on my channel as it had more buzz. That said, They cook the same and if I was just a backyard cooker with a small family the 560 would have been awesome.
where can i buy the 1060 from
I’m sold. Thanks
Enjoy brother.
My 560 was delivered yesterday ;-) This is the first I heard about a bigger 1050 ;-(. Think I'd like the extra size but probably don't need it. FYI, 560 has the rotisserie plug, magnets stick to lid and shelves. 560 side shelves are black vs stainless on the 1050.
Bryan Thanks on those to questions you answered. That 560 will do you well. thanks and if you'd like to see anything cooked, LMK...
Thank you SIr!
Thank you for watching.
It looks like it is an extra $300 well spent.
Yeah, the shelf would be more useful if there was more clearance with the door handle.
Jeff, For me yes. Thanks brother!
If it was longer, you could definitely use it to wrap a brisket or shoulder. It seems a bit short. I also agree with the clearance with the handle.
Need to figure out how to get my hands on a 1050, they dont even have them on the website :(
I'm being told late May.....
Atlanta Grill Company has a few left.

I did..... and then a 1050 because I loved it so much! Enjoy and make sure you check out my facebook group.
Nice video hadn’t heard of this cooker before, I lived master built with my smoker but it died on me after only 5 years of very light use.
I’m going to buy another now I’m gonna have to check between this and Kamado joe hummm
I've owned an Egg and loved it. That said it was only 18" and was way to small. So, It has to be 22".... Follow along on my channel and when you decide, I'd love to know the reasons.. thanks
Between the 1050 and kamado Joe I would choose the kamado Joe with a flameboss controller.... The masterbuilt will compliment it well but you cannot beat a high quality ceramic grill that will certainly outlast any masterbuilt product. I would get the big Joe if I had to choose though
@@MelloHubb The big Joe is kick ass for sure-. Also a bit more money. I think Masterbuilt and Kamado have joined forces. The future looks bright for sure-.
Mars Hall thanks. I think the big joe with the dojo pizza thing and I command. It will be my return from deployment gift to myself. But since I’ll be home in December I still have a little time
Steven Coffee Definitely get exactly what you want, and treat yourself right. You deserve it. Thank you for all you do.
So I'm interested in getting one . I've heard good things and bad things. Should I go for it? I'm not going to be able to get anything ae for A LONG TIME. This is a little rich for my blood. I will if you think it's worth it but the bad reviews weigh on my mind. It's really awesome from what I have seen. I've heard a lot about issues though. That's scary.
Check for the 560 on sale. The pit itself will out cook anything in its price range.
This video has a lot of good info, I'm looking to get a Masterbuilt next week. For anyone reading this, they have a new'ish 800 model that's $700 and comes with a flat top griddle insert. There's a video of the 800 on this channel. I was leaning towards the 560 because I don't need the size of the 1050. But I like the griddle on the 800, and adding one for the 560 would probably make it close to $700. The extra cooking surface + a shelf like the 1050 aren't bad to have either. If I didn't want the griddle I'd definitely get the 560 over the 1050. Lookin at the chart on Masterbuilt's web site the 1050 can cook 17 chickens, 45 burgers or 67 sausages. That's crazy overkill for my needs. The 560 can do 8 chickens or 21 burgers, which is still a lot of food. But who knows maybe I'll get the 800 and in 6 months have a need to make 67 sausages lol.
Only downside it's currently a Wally World exclusive, that could change in the future though.
Ive got a Corned Beef on the 800 since 3:30AM... Stay tuned as I put this 800 to the test!
The main surface area for grilling is also something to consider. The other racks are more so for slow cooking or keeping food warm. The very bottom though, closest to the heat source, can be used for grilling. THAT area is something to consider, IF you plan on doing any actual grilling on these. You can slow cook a burger and hot dogs, sure. OR, you can grill em and be done in 10 minutes on the bottom racks. For me, I like grilling AND slow cooking. So the 1050 gives more room to grill while also giving more room for things such as huge pork butt or brisket.
If a magnet sticks it’s a ferromagnetic alloy. Meaning higher iron content
I wanted the 800, but couldn't find it anywhere. I ended up settling for the 1050, but it cooks fine.
Your gonna love it. I have so many recipes posted you'll have a blaste!
Does the temperature goes low enough for Beef Jerky?
Yes, And I need to make some.
It looks like the shelf and control box are supposed to be stainless steel. If a magnet sticks to it. That means it is a low grade stainless steel. A magnet should not stick to stainless steel.
I like the “I am Second” bracelet. Great video
Yes! Thank you! Been wearing it for years. Enjoy!
Hi there do you need to do the burnout process on each unit?
Yes. 100% yes.

or any good quality stainless steel...
Any idea why the 1050 isn’t anywhere to be found on Masterbuilt’s web site?
Bryan, On my last conversation with Masterbuilt this release was a soft run to a few independent dealers. Maybe this has something to do with this corona thats going around. Right now Masterbuilt is shut down till May. I'm hearing late May this Pit should hit all the big box stores. Ill update this over here. facebook.com/groups/264734041353275/265938281232851/?comment_id=265943724565640&reply_comment_id=266464057846940¬if_id=1587055938897743¬if_t=group_comment
What's unfortunate is there's no way to locate a 1050 one. I reached out to Masterbuilt, until the end of May it seems you have to just be lucky enough to find an independent dealer that has them because there's no way to know except word of mouth or though a UA-cam video.
Such is true. That said, they should be everywhere by the End of May...
I bought my 1050 from a "mom & pop" shop in Pennsylvania.......check them out

Tangier Clarke thank you for that information. What’s interesting is I don’t see it on the website not sure if it was on there before but can’t find it.
