  • The Masterbuilt Gravity Series 1050 Grill / Smoker arrived here on Thursday last week so I got it assembled, burned in, and seasoned as quickly as possible so I could show you the walk-around demo of this grill before I get started cooking on it!
    In this video, I give you a walk-around tour of this system and its features. I will be doing several cooking videos on this grill in the in the immediate future and I will also be working this grill into the regular lineup of Atlanta Grill Company cooking videos. If you have any specific questions regarding the features of this grill, post them as comments and I will do my best to answer each of them....

    Thanks for the demo. I'm usually not an early adopter of new products. I am anxious to see how these types of grills/smokers fare over time as I think I might prefer something like this over a pellet stove. But for now, I'll let the barbecuing pioneers dodge the arrows and deal with the rattlesnakes. With all the bells and whistles on this model, I am a bit surprised Masterbuilt didn't add a slightly more advanced way to start the charcoal such as an electric or low-pressure propane burner of some type.

    I see people reinforcing the top lid on the hopper because the hinges are cheesy and they are also putting an angle iron on the back over the grease tray to keep the water out if they are storing it on the deck. I wish Masterbuilt would address this so I did not have to do it myself. I would love to have one of these 1050's even if I have to tweak it myself because it will stay out in the weather a lot. I think I would add a hose connection to the grease pan and run a hose to a jug or bucket. Good video.

    I own the 560, and the only complaint i have is that the app is very buggy. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It sometimes doesn't even reflect the correct temperature on the grill. Other than that it is the best grill ive ever owned. I don't think an app is even necessary for a grill, so a small complaint.

    • @AtlantaGrillCompany
      @AtlantaGrillCompany  3 роки тому +1

      No. The main fan disengages when you have those open. The way the air flows in this system is critical to making it work properly. This thing heats up fast enough as is. I would NOT try to tweak that.

    Grill grates and fire box should be better grade of metal. Cheap materials used. Also the front shelf should have been wider, with the lid handle in the way not much you gonna use the shelf for. Great concept, but for the money they should have used 306 steel for the inside stuff. Would like to see an update video on how the grill is holding up now.

Would you be able to put as close to a wall or would you say it needs more space. I have a pellet cooker in my gazebo with limited space and it works great. Thanks for your help.

    • @ailous626
      @ailous626 4 роки тому +1

      I have a 1050. You can use it as you would a pellet grill. Though a pellet grill doesn't get to 700 like this one.. so please consider that you may need to think of it as a propane grill when they run hot

    • @AtlantaGrillCompany
      @AtlantaGrillCompany  4 роки тому +4

    • @TheDarienJim
      @TheDarienJim 4 роки тому +1

      I would be curious too...how long does it take to fire up to say 500 to BBQ a steak and once you shut it down, how long to cool down?

    • @NSarge87
      @NSarge87 4 роки тому +2

      It actually cools down quickly. You just insert those two metal pieces and it chokes off the airflow. I'm able to get 4-5 grill sessions with a full chimney of lump at least.

  • @sawsanov8934
    @sawsanov8934 4 роки тому +1

    What is the actual purpose of the grill stops to prevent airflow to the charcoal or from the charcoal? It seems like you remove them to start the flame, keep them removed to cook. Are they just there to make us feel like we are doing something?

    • @AtlantaGrillCompany
      @AtlantaGrillCompany  4 роки тому +1

      Those stop airflow in and out of the charcoal chute. You remove them when you are ready to start the fans so the fan can control the intensity of the fire during the cook. You put them back in when you are finished cooking to snuff the charcoal out and keep it from burning all the charcoal in the chute. - John Setzler

  • @BIGMASTERJ

    I wonder how much charcoal it burns through. How do you get the charcoal to stop burning do you just slide those plates back in

    • @AtlantaGrillCompany
      @AtlantaGrillCompany  4 роки тому +2

      Yes.. when you slide the plates back in it will snuff the charcoal out. I was able to run the 1050 for about 7.5 hours at 250°F before I thought it was time to add more charcoal.

    Thanks for the Vid. I have a few questions, please.
    700F is mighty high. What is the lowest temp setting?
    Do you have problems with hot spots?
    Does the constant air flow from the fan dry out the food?
    Is this a better smoker than a grill? How well is it for grilling steaks, brots, burgers, vegies, and pineapple?
    Do I need to get a smoker and a grill? is this great at both, or not the best at either?
    Is there room for a water tray below the grills? I've read that smoke from fat is a carcinogen and you noted that the fat drips directly onto the heat source.
    I'd like to request a comparison video from an expert like yourself on the differences, similarities, strengths and weaknesses of this compared to a grill and a BBQ.
    If a grill is where the heat is directly under the food, then is this technically an BBQ and offset smoker? Just trying to learn the language.
    Thanks

    • @AtlantaGrillCompany

      I haven't had any issues snuffing out the fire on this grill so far. When you put the plates back on the charcoal chamber, it shuts down the airflow enough to snuff out the coals without any issue.

    Money changes your attitude. If I had the cash to buy this I'd love it and have great fun using it.
    Since I'm broke it's an over-complicated monstrosity and I would do better with my $25 tabletop grill.
    See how that works?

    Between this one and 560 which would you recommend?

    • @ManCaveMeals
      @ManCaveMeals 4 роки тому

      I'd recommend the 1050, which is actually rare for me. I'm not always a fan of the larger sizes. The 1050 has some upgrades over the 560 that I really like. It's also easier to assemble. - John Setzler

    • @AtlantaGrillCompany

      I think the quality of this grill is OK. It's not built like it's $3000 counterpart vertical smokers. It's thinner sheet metal. It will do a lot more than the $3000 counterparts.

      It sounds like it's toggling back and forth between the temp and the timer. You can adjust what that display is showing you with the dial.

      This is the most economical Gravity Fed Charcoal smoker out right now. Its ONLY competition is the Old Country Gravity and its $500.00 more than a 1050 and they are the same size! The Old country is built heavier but has no fan or bluetooth ap etc but its a hellava good gravity smoker that weighs 100lbs more FWIW The Reviews all over You Tube for BOTH speak for them selves and there are aftermarket upgrades already being made for the Masterbuilt! Its kinda a game changer! (as much as I hate that phrase) it applies here! Its Chinese made designed by Masterbuilt USA so that is most of the savings. The Old Country is USA Made on the Mexican border in TX, So its (welded by Mexican /Americans ) if that matters to you. The Old Country is a relative bargain compared to an ASSASSIN which is $2600.00 for roughly the same size Gravity smoker.

      I'm skeptical as well. $500 for Chinese made that requires several mods right out of the box. Longevity and customer service questionable

    I wouldn't even consider purchasing another Masterbuilt brand. The Masterbuilt has quality issues that have been around for several years and rather than work to eliminate the issue, they choose to "grease the squeaky wheel". The biggest problem by far, is now "due to covid" you can't talk to anyone when you call for tech support. You have to submit an online form and someone contacts you via email, and It seems that there could possibly be a language barrier. #MasterbuiltIsJunk
