Simply the best clip on release of anyone out there. I'm a decent player with a 4 handicap and have taken lessons multiple times and no one ever talks about this. They want to teach everything in the world except how the hands really work. They may even be able to do this but have no idea how to instruct it. Good work. It's an excellent refresher for me.
This is an excellent instructional video on the hands. I recently mentioned to my playing partner that I suddenly realized I've been holding onto wrist angles (lag) for way too long and discovered how the left wrist is going from flexion to extension (feeling anyway) even before impact to allow the "flinging" of the club through impact. I had felt that before, the flexion to extension of the left wrist, and hit some good balls but later discounted that feeling as it can't be correct. Boy, was I wrong. Now I realize I've just been holding onto angles and slowing my swing through the ball. When I did this last week, realizing the release started earlier, I was suddenly 30 yards longer on my drive and had recovered a club worths of distance on my irons. Thank you for this.
I’ve been feeling this ‘flinging’ sensation of the club through the ball with releasing my hands fully and the ball JUMPS off the club face with minimal effort. It’s quite a feeling. You can feel like swinging at 50% and the ball takes off like a rocket still. Been studying Fred Couples swing for years now and lots of congruency between his swing and what you teach. Thanks!
WOW... thank you!!! I asked you for this video a couple of months ago and you came through like the pro you are!!! I have not seen such detailed instruction like this before!
This was exactly what I have been searching for. The detailed and super close up view really helped me understand. One idea that I think would be helpful and unique, try wearing a go pro on your hat so we can all see the view from your perspective. After all, we are trying to convert what we see to a first person perspective. But you can do that for us by wearing a go pro and seeing it from the first person perspective.
I must say that this has been such a revelation. I thought the flap was a good thing, but so many others never approached that. I’ve been following DrKwonGolf for a while and see that in all respects you align with DrKwon. However, the arm/wrist/hands interaction is a nuance that’s subtle but so important. Now that you gave me the go ahead to embrace the flap and seen your other vids about release. My compression is so much better. Just beginning this journey and so excited.
I like this format Steve ... Great insight on acceleration/delayed reaction and whipping action ... Hope you can do more of these ... thanks for sharing ...
Excellent instruction, clear and understandable. I liked the way you illustrated each phase of the swing. The hands are an extremely important part of the entire swing. A quick question, how much of this process applies to the short game? Are all swings the same regardless of distance? Is the release on a short pitch shot the same as the release on a longer club?
Trackman, mirror, hitting mat, big bucket of balls, putting green, quiet range. Man that place is heaven on earth. Can you do a chipping video? We all love to hit it long but what do you do with the extra distance?
I love this video, great job as usual. Question: I have people telling me to "swing left" which I'm having trouble understanding but I assume it means after contacting the ball. It's kind of like saying "releasing the club" they just say it and expect you to understand. Do you advocate this? If so, can you explain it.
Yea, draw it in and cut it out. Hands low and left. Close the clubhead with the rotation of the body. I've been down that avenue and it's a complete load of bl**dy rubbish. It kills dead the freewheel club head and destroys centfical force, finally the club, no longer works as a pendulum, because its being manipulated!!!!
Great video Steve, when I do this I have a tendency to pull or hook the ball, is this overactive trail forarm rotation. If I hold back the rotation of the trail forarm it seems I don't get force into the ball and almost a restricted swing. I feel as i turn my arms want to turn do to the force of the club head during the swing.
@@Inmotion70 🤔 I took a five year break (been back almost 2 years now) I’m trying to remember when to “throw my right hand verse release it” I found your video helpful. That’s why I ask.
In this video, it seems you are demonstrating a wrist release right before impacting the ball; yet, in another video you are proposing an early release of the club. I have such a short backswing (and a fully replaced left shoulder) that I am trying to have a much earlier release as u demonstrated in another video.
I applied the right hand flexion move, slowing (feel) of the hands and letting the club head lead through / post impact yesterday and it was the best I’ve ever hit… especially off the tee and approach… thx Steve!

Thank you for the great comment!
You’re so right.. no mention of this and it will establish consistency without any need for urgency before impact.
Yes very good explanation. Mike Austin and Mike Malaska type swing
What a excellent way to show us the hand actions of our swing,,how it should be and feel,,,
Steve,,,your Good,,, thanks,,,,

Positively the best. A needed video. Thanks so much.

Hey dannylaw...your right on same thing with me.I use to flip at the ball ..no one showed me the proper way like Steve does. Thanks Steve
Great job explaining… and it works… it really sends the ball at the intended target, and on off days alot closer

Thanks, will do!

Good stuff Steve at 80 yrs old I hope to improve my distance this yr with my goal to be hitting the driver 300 yds

Could you do a takeaway video looking back up the target line like you have here from 11.00 mins on thanks
Trackman, mirror, hitting mat, big bucket of balls, putting green, quiet range. Man that place is heaven on earth.
Can you do a chipping video? We all love to hit it long but what do you do with the extra distance?
Check out my channel home page and the playlists. There are a few chipping videos.
I really enjoyed the way you explain everything. Thank you
Steve does this happen before your square to the strike? I feel it is 25% behind the strike.

his more current video.... "what the hands do in the downswing" is a better great explanation of this
Good video. I didn't hear you discuss the role of ulnar and radial deviation of the wrists as part of the release...
No but hopefully I showed it.
How do I get a lesson?
I’ve tried emailing but never get a response
Email me directly at Steve@hititlonger.com
I watch some of your videos. Do you “subscribe to the thought” of “throwing the right hand at the parallel point” for a right handed golfer?
The throw begins long before that, from the top of the swing. You only see the response at last parallel.

Does your Baseball grip help you increase club head speed
Not sure why I do that when I demonstrate sometimes. I overlap.
i dont know, your left wrist is flipping?
Flapping. Like every pro on TV does but you've been suckered into not doing.
This is the missing link to golf instruction.

Good stuff!
Dude I see the ulnar side of your right wrist at 4:45 of your video. You can't rotate you left forearm and the right one not rotate. Not possible.
Disagree.
Kinda seems like trying to scoop or a snap down.
Fantastic explanation! Appreciate the details! Thanks Steve! 🏌️ 👍🏽
great video
