- At the soul of this song is a Keertan, and like all keertans this is a love song. It's a song about a girl who has fallen in love with the moon. The lyrics talk about the girl complaining to the 'night' about how the 'moon' hides from her all day and at times disappears all together! Swanand Kirkire's words were inspired by the moon & how it often forms the perfect accompaniment to love. Only this time, he wanted to reinterpret it in a completely different way.
This is a song about a girl confessing her love, all the while knowing that what she wishes for is unattainable. She is aware that her feelings will never be reciprocated but still can't wait to see the moon every night! Kaushiki Chakravarthy brings out this sweet pain through the song.

Meaning:
The Poet starts with warning a girl to not fall in love with a hermit, for they don't have a stable life and have no concept of romantic love, also telling her that she would only get misery if she did.
Later the poet moves to saying that she can't help but fall in love with this nomad, compares it to the moon, with its ever changing faces, also complaining that he is someone who doesn't stay long enough to satiate her need for his company. Says that his thoughts trouble her and give her sleepless nights. She has tried to bind him with her love, but given his restless nature, he cannot be contained.
But she is helpless, as he has stolen her heart...

Here is the difference between Coke Studio Pakistan and Coke Studio India,
Coke Studio Pakistan does the voice smooth and very much soothing but Coke Studio India can't do this. We can see in 'Afreen Afreen' the voice of Momina Mustehsan sounds better than this of Kaushiki when we hear and compare listening it in a good headset, but Momina is not even worthy for being compared with the great Kaushiki, but the nervousness of Kaushiki's voice is clear and not even furnished. I can definitely say Kaushiki's live performances are better than this coke studio version. Coke Studio Pakistan is using 100% of what they have, but Coke studio India couldn't use 30% of the gems like Kaushiki and they are just wasting them. Also Coke studio Bangla is doing better works than Coke Studio India.

Today marks the 1000th time I’m listening to this song. Still can’t get over the magnificent voice of Kaushiki. Why isn’t she doing playbacks. Such a such gap exists today between singing and wailing.

Just yesterday got to listen to her in Pune in a unique fusion concert where she also sung the above piece with a power-packed combo of drums(dino banks), bass guitar(Sheldon dsilva), keyboards(Atul ranindra), Tabla(ojas Adhiya) & Murad Ali Khan on sarangi. Absolutely delightful experimentation, couldn't have imagined u could sync bass guitar with hardcore classical bandishes in kaushiki's voice so well...
I don’t think Koushiki is very unhappy and consider herself as incomplete. Indian music and singers’ last destination is to sing for the hindi playback song. But sangeet (shongeet) doesn’t mean that only! She is a renowned classical singer. And praised/ known by many. She is recognized and respected by many famous musicians! That is all I believe.

Listening to her is always a treat as it was when I first heard her at my Guruji's house when she was probably ten-eleven.
These were the days when coke studio used to produce beautiful soulful compositions. Would love to hear more from them now. The original compositions which contain the essence of India, our poems ,traditional songs from all our beautiful States and not just mashups and compilations of the existing songs with less voice and more autotune like it does today.
few years back I was searching for Shoba Gurtu jees version of yaad piya ki aaye and I came across yaad piya ki aaye by kaushiki and I was left mesmerised and I shared this with all my musical friends,.isko sun ne ke baad to mere rongte khade ho gaye,..Im so proud of the fact that India still has such singers..She has the capacity to cure this ailing music industry ..She must be the best active singer that we have today...
