I decided to play this with my family, and the when my dad fought the goblins for the first time, he killed one with an axe and lopped off their arm. He then used the arm to beat down the other goblin. I couldn't be prouder as a DM.
What’s the point of using the arm as a weapon when you have an axe? Did he have the improvised weapons feat? If not, how did you work out bludgeoning damage?
If I recall, general improvised weapon damage is either equated to the closest possible actual weapon or is just 1d4 if it's not an actual weapon in any way.
+Robert Blanchard But water doesn't conduct electricity, it's an isolator. It's all the impurities in the water that conduct the current. *The more you know*.
Robert Blanchard Well if you stuck a piece of conductive metal to some rubber it wouldn't stop the rubber from being an insulator. But I get what you mean.
+Björn Eggert I'm pretty sure, if he tried to lightning breath a full plate peron, this man shouldn't be injured by it, because all current would run through his armor into the ground, without making any path through his body. But from the other side, why his breath travels straight forward, instead of going straight into the ground, like it logicly should... And if it's charged particles, he breathes out, why this isn't a cone... All in all there no really need to explain things in D&D, if they include/can include "it's magic" explanation, which dragon breath is(a spell).
I can one up that, logen eight fingers a chaotic evil dwarf who is also 1/3 Orc who worships the lady of pain. He is missing his middle fingers due to a fight with a kobold and whenever he sees a kobold he goes into a blood rage even though he is a rouge. He dismembers and skins anything he kills and turns them into clothing and furniture. He also created a horror costume out of goblins.
I would love another D&D campaign during D&December, but with a little bit of editing, some background music and maybe some different camera set ups, similar to what Node did. Happy D&December everyone!
What I learned today: Corpses are always useful, never trust another man's dice, goblin arrows are super effective against rogues and wolves are weak to being stabbed in their anuses.
I like seeing people play TRPGs, but if I could make a few suggestions... 1) Annotations with a rundown of the characters' stats and abilities 2) Bring the camera closer to the table/More camera angles 3) Show the table so the viewers have a better idea of what they players are looking at
The first 2 minutes (and the rest probably too) is the best nerd speak I've heard in a long time. It takes me back to my D&D days when people would make fun of us for talking like that. We didn't care, it was fun!
I still have absolutely no idea how D&D works, but it seems so fun! I have the same box set as my first. When we tried to play, I'm not sure whether or not I was just dumb, or it was overly complicated. Maybe a bit of both.
Why did I not know this was a thing! This is actually pretty cool. I know with covid and other shit IRL play is harder. But this would be fun to see Jared run with another module. Like Dragon of ice spire peak, or even a one shot. Maybe Icewind dale
question here, ive never played DnD before so would it be possible to make a Mage/Boxer character that enchants his fists to do sick falcon punch type moves?
It *is* possible to make a sort of battle mage, but the only problem is that skills in D&D are dependent on ability scores. They're comprised of Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma respectively. These scores are made higher by leveling up and are what decides the kind of skills your character can use (Guys with lots of strength usually use huge swords, spells with intelligence, charisma with bards, etc...) If one wanted to use weapon enchantment type spells then they would need to focus mostly on intelligence since that's what spell need, so they wouldn't be that great at hand to hand combat, especially unarmed. For something like that to be viable it would take quite a few levels for the character to not be weak as shit.
JordanRynes Well, in 4th edition D&D there are a few pretty good classes for this kind of setup, like Swordmage, Bladeslinger Wizard or Hexblade Warlock. They all mostly focus on channeling spells through swords, but I'm not sure how well that really translates to unarmed attacks. Most of the attack damage would really be coming from the spells, so it would be smarter to focus on intelligence.
I played this adventure with a couple of friends and it's funny seeing it play out differently. When we got to the wolves we succeed the handle animals check and didn't have a fight there at all. They just ran out of the cave. Very entertaining.
Ran this once and my wizard started worshipping the goblin boss as a god which led to a really funny series of events which eventually led to someone crashing the cart of supplies into the goblin boss
just a small suggestion, have some very light music in the background just to avoid the silence during the "Thinking time" or whatever. otherwise i'm glad this is a thing! :D
Playing music while narrating helps build an atmosphere too. For example, tense music for discovering a body or calm, lightly orchestrated music for describing a field or otherwise quite and peaceful area.
zippolight2002 I manage to do that on the group I DM (Dungeon Master for those who don't know). I know what can happen in the session I plan and bring matching music. If something I didn't expect happens (which easily happens with a good group) I can use a track I already have or not play music this time. If Jared can't do that he obviously can edit music in, and that would also make it sound better. P.S. The DM guide even advises playing music while narrating, so they know what they're doing.
If I didn't put background music in our Pathfinder videos then it would be very quiet and dull during the portions of strategic thinking. It makes a world of difference and helps set the mood too. :)
i watched the adventure from d&december befor thisone, so i heard joshs and austins voices before i knew how they look like and its always funny how you picture persons based on their voices and when you see them they look NOTHING like you imagined :D great videos btw. not only this one but every d&d you guys played yet where realy fun to watch hope there will be plenty more in the future
I have no one willing to play this game with me, but this game looks absolutely amazing. I've been interested for years, no one else is ever interested though. none of us have played though... I wish i could get into this, i need some kind of introduction.
David Sherbourne get the starter set and see if A. There is a game store doing DnD encounters or B. You can convert your freinds and C. Get a roll 20 or s similar account
I just played this part of the campaign and I ended up burning down the forest with a critical sacred flame killing basically half the goblins My teammates dismembered the rest leaving no survivers
more of this for D and D ecember!....and maybe some tutorial for the very new and not knowing anything but loves the idea of roleplaying with rules so people dont make themselves all powerful.
Boris Stankovic Ninjas aren't quite in DnD 5th edition yet. I wouldn't be surprised when they're included eventually though, as the game is clearly built to be modular in a way similar to Pathfinder, (another tabletop which does have a Ninja class.)
The red DM screen that Jared is using is the edition that I started playing back in Jr high. I'm not quite sure what edition it is but it brought back lots of memories.
While watching this I saw your related Magic video, and holy crap will these be nice to have, if only cause me getting to play games like this is really sporadic, so it'll be nice to watch these really fast for a refresher, cause I find it a LOT easier to see these things played than going through rule books.
this is alot more interesting than I thought it was, thanks for stearing me to this video from d&december on your main channel, if my local comic book store didnt close I might concider trying this out.
TheKeyser94 I use those, though on occasion other, stranger things. I let players pick theme music once they get good enough stats so that it can play over their most impressive moments.
I did put the Oblivion OST on another tab as i saw this and it was much better. I think he doesn't do that for fear on getting a copyright on his account.
+Gabe Ramirez I agree... might not have been good for this video... but when I play at home, we always throw on some epic music to set the mood of gameplay.
Matthew Smith TheMorbidHobo I can't remember the exact reasoning, but don't assume I am not retarded, I assure you I am, just not the conventional version of retarded, but rather the figurative version people use for insults. I think I was looking at "Whiteboard board" and then made my comment look like I was having an aneurysm. An over exaggeration for comedy, I do that a lot. The thing that I can't for the life of me figure out is why I say porn in my finger spaz out, must just be a coincidence.
my family and I just started this campaign today. 👌 I'm playing as a halfling elf, my brother is a dwarven cleric, my mom is an elven wizard, and my dad is a DM. I think my mom is secretly enjoying it.
Incidentally, when I played the beginning of this adventure on Roll20 with friends, the FIRST thing that happened is my tiefling bard getting shot with an arrow at the start and dropping down to 1 HP. She spent the whole dang fight hiding behind the frickin' cart, using bard magic to heal herself. Since I played her as not being with the party initially and stumbling onto the dead horse just before the party arrived, this provided a magnificent excuse for my tiefling to get involved as a do-gooder busybody instead of a mercenary. Too bad that campaign fizzled out due to scheduling issues. One of the things that happened for us in that first battle is we managed to spare one of the goblins and get intel out of him. Our DM is cool like that. We used him as a guide to a hideout not long after.
Always wondered what a lets play of D&D would look like. I would really like to see a larger group and more focus on role play/characters. I'm running a 5th ed game right now and the best part about it is how open it is to that kind of thing compared to earlier versions.
Omg Jared, I just started playing D&D (a half-elf ranger) for the first time and we are doing the exact same quest right now XD I hope yours goes more smoothly than ours has so far... Your video on the 5e set actually got me started ^^
I decided to play this with my family, and the when my dad fought the goblins for the first time, he killed one with an axe and lopped off their arm. He then used the arm to beat down the other goblin. I couldn't be prouder as a DM.
Benett Malcolm One couldn't be prouder as a son.
Benett Malcolm 😂 my dad casted a sleeping spell then killed all of them in their sleep
#1 Badass dad right there.
[Remembers that water conducts electricity]
[Forgets that metal conducts it better]
+Robert Blanchard But water doesn't conduct electricity, it's an isolator.
It's all the impurities in the water that conduct the current.
*The more you know*.
Björn Eggert I know, but for all intensive purposes, this water is conductive. After all, it's an unfiltered river.
Robert Blanchard Well if you stuck a piece of conductive metal to some rubber it wouldn't stop the rubber from being an insulator. But I get what you mean.
+Robert Blanchard *intents and purposes, not "intensive purposes".
The more you know!
+Björn Eggert I'm pretty sure, if he tried to lightning breath a full plate peron, this man shouldn't be injured by it, because all current would run through his armor into the ground, without making any path through his body. "I'm somewhere between chaotic good and chaotic neutral"
Half an hour later:
"I'm in the back of the cart dismembering dead goblins"
It's technically not aggressive violence if the goblins are already dead...
He also created a horror costume out of goblins.
xD U R RITE
Killing goblins is GOOD.
Jared, your face when he said that he loaded the goblins up in the cart and is busy dismembering them. Too funny
39:30 Jared's WTF face.
Anyone else come here after watching the first D&December D&D Tales and hearing that ProJared had D&D campaigns on his gameplay channel?
Yeah pretty much.
yup.
yea
+CagedChaosRB I also believe, THE Josh is on the left :)
Leo Galin That would be him, yeah. Stealing the show here as well xD
"You have a javelin?"
"I have two."
haha For some reason I was probabaly more entertained by that than I should have been.
"Cmon I'm so excited to break faces"
Josh is one of the best and worst things to happen to D&D ever.
I agree.
+PrimeHylian He reminds me of me playing D&D (oddly, my name is Josh as well o.O)
"What did I tell you; corpses *always* come in handy!"
Your friendly neighborhood Sprinkles just passing through doing her duty!~ o-o7
o-o7 Roger that
I would love another D&D campaign during D&December, but with a little bit of editing, some background music and maybe some different camera set ups, similar to what Node did. Happy D&December everyone!
This was a big reason for my rekindled love of D&D. Then DCA. I would love to see Jared run a game again.
Can't understand a single thing being said here, but I'm enjoying it.
+Bubba xD Don't worry. I suggest getting the starter set. It's a lot of fun to play with friends!
***** No, I meant that literally. The echo makes it a bit hard to hear.
I'll take the suggestion, though!
+Bubba more people like you and the world be much more pleasent place.
try turning the volume down on your headphone, it can help a lot.
Erik Whitmore ...Possibly
Kainui Penaloza this is the internet, are you new here?
I like how Jared starts imagining goblins getting ripped apart at 39:22 while also thinking, "This is my friend."
Very nice format! at first i was scepical if this could hold up in the long run, but i got engrosed by the storyline that unfolds
What I learned today: Corpses are always useful, never trust another man's dice, goblin arrows are super effective against rogues and wolves are weak to being stabbed in their anuses.
Oh WOW this is actually fun to watch!!! I'm like imagining the whole thing in my head.
I like seeing people play TRPGs, but if I could make a few suggestions...
1) Annotations with a rundown of the characters' stats and abilities
2) Bring the camera closer to the table/More camera angles
3) Show the table so the viewers have a better idea of what they players are looking at
As soon as I saw this I got so happy can't wait for more!
That guy on the left has a mark of sacrifice tattoo on his neck.
I instantly like this person.
Jered face at 39:32 is Hilaurious hahaha. "Do you ever hear the things you say?" Bwahahaha
oh my god! does josh have a fucking mark of sacrifice tattoo!? bad ass!
As they play d&d demons are actually crawling out through the floorboards
Just noticed. Soooo sick
Cool, Josh has a brand of sacrifice on his neck.
+GamersScarvangerBR Uh-oh...
Berserk reference?
Yep.
yea I can't stop staring waiting for it to start bleeding...
+GamesScarvanger I was wondering the same thing.. xD

question here, ive never played DnD before so would it be possible to make a Mage/Boxer character that enchants his fists to do sick falcon punch type moves?
I second this question and would like to ask permission to use this idea.
yes you can, only condition is you make the sickest falcon punches ever
It *is* possible to make a sort of battle mage, but the only problem is that skills in D&D are dependent on ability scores. They're comprised of Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma respectively. Also I LOVED that campain you made! And its ending... Was EPIC!!!
As great as it is watching Jared play D&D, I keep getting hit with moments of "That's not how it works"
I'm so glad that people still play tabletop games. It's easily one of my favorite pastimes.
Thanks for coming Diath. Just immediately unconscious.
That was very entertaining. I'd love to see more tabletop games like this.
I played this adventure with a couple of friends and it's funny seeing it play out differently. When we got to the wolves we succeed the handle animals check and didn't have a fight there at all. They just ran out of the cave. Very entertaining.
Jared's face at 39:23 makes my life 10x better
Ran this once and my wizard started worshipping the goblin boss as a god which led to a really funny series of events which eventually led to someone crashing the cart of supplies into the goblin boss
0:45 Already out of the gate with the laughs, damn you Jared.
just a small suggestion, have some very light music in the background just to avoid the silence during the "Thinking time" or whatever. otherwise i'm glad this is a thing! :D
Playing music while narrating helps build an atmosphere too. For example, tense music for discovering a body or calm, lightly orchestrated music for describing a field or otherwise quite and peaceful area.
Dodo's Gaming That would be pretty hard to orchestrate in real time. Unless you're talking about him editing it in afterwords.
zippolight2002 I manage to do that on the group I DM (Dungeon Master for those who don't know). I know what can happen in the session I plan and bring matching music. ***** *subtle advertising*
I have only heard of d and d but this is enough to make anyone love it!!!
PLEASE! Please do D&December again this year haha
Welp, he did. beautiful
i watched the adventure from d&december befor thisone, so i heard joshs and austins voices before i knew how they look like and its always funny how you picture persons based on their voices and when you see them they look NOTHING like you imagined :D
great videos btw. not only this one but every d&d you guys played yet where realy fun to watch hope there will be plenty more in the future
Enjoyed watching this! Please do more when you can.
the look on Jareds face when he hears that the monk loaded all the goblin corpses on the cart is "do you see what im dealing with" lol
"I will drive the dragon!"
I already love this
39:00 Jared be like "What kind of murder hobo's have I introduced to this world?"
This campaign is a lot of fun, I look forward to seeing what other people do. : D
This is actually making me want to start playing D&D.
I have no one willing to play this game with me, but this game looks absolutely amazing. I've been interested for years, no one else is ever interested though. none of us have played though... I wish i could get into this, i need some kind of introduction.
Yup roll20
David Sherbourne get the starter set and see if A. There is a game store doing DnD encounters or B. You can convert your freinds and C. Get a roll 20 or s similar account
I just played this part of the campaign and I ended up burning down the forest with a critical sacred flame killing basically half the goblins
My teammates dismembered the rest leaving no survivers
more of this for D and D ecember!....and maybe some tutorial for the very new and not knowing anything but loves the idea of roleplaying with rules so people dont make themselves all powerful.
That face Jarrd made when Josh started dismembering a goblin in the back of the wagon XD
*Jared, fucking mobile keyboard
More Projared content? I'm game.
Same here.
Rape
This is a great learning tool for people who want to be better at roleplaying for D&D. Thanks.
if he could get the camera on the ceiling looking down that would be fantastic!
God I wish I understood/knew how to play D&D. I've always been interested, just haven't had people to play with/learn with.
SirChrisJames 3 years later, did you ever play it?
Hey goto roll20 and get a free account, then start looking for games. I was in the same boat for years till this system.
We'll never knoe
Jared made a Rogue. Jared and I know our place in D&D. Roguelife forever.
thank you for doing Tabletop games Jared. Now just keep this up for 4 years and we can have a nice short Campaign
First dnd campaign, best b-day present ever!
darn, i want to watch this, but I might play this campaign myself in the not so distant future... Looks like i'll have to wait!
C'mon guys you're missing out on the best part of playing D&D as an adult, getting shitfaced with your friends!
This was the first campaign I DM'd, and I emjoyed putting twists on it.
ProJared, I first found you through GrumpCade, playing with Ross. So glad you did that, because now I've found your awesomeness!
Good stuff Jared, can't wait for more from this channel. Btw is Josh the store manager from nametags? Cool stuff.
That is him!
ProJared Plays! next time, he should play a ninja class
Boris Stankovic Ninjas aren't quite in DnD 5th edition yet. I wouldn't be surprised when they're included eventually though, as the game is clearly built to be modular in a way similar to Pathfinder, (another tabletop which does have a Ninja class.)
+Cosmic Kirby Aren't the "Way of the Shadow" monks basically ninjas?
+ProJared Plays! What no Dom? Oh man that would be awesome reuniting the cast for some D&D!
As someone who doesn't know jack about d&d this is interesting to watch
Check out a game of Aquisitions Inc.
They play at cons and they are fun as fuck.
Gavin Welch It's the most fun you can have using your imagination!
I think the "Zappy breath the stream" argument was the funniest part XD
Fuck yeah, jared playing D&D, I wanna see a normal boots D&D game
I love how Jared is just looking at the camera when he's talking about dismembering goblin corpses like, "You see I'm not fucking joking"
Pretty impressed with your new channel.
If this is 5e I remember soloing this little module. Ended up throwing 2 goblins in to the fire which brought me great joy!
I love Projared. and i love DnD. Therefore how can i not love this series :)
I also have a Dragonborn Paladin. I named him Fusroth Dra. He's a blacksmith from The Guild of the Greybeards. Very immature, but couldn't resist.
The red DM screen that Jared is using is the edition that I started playing back in Jr high. I'm not quite sure what edition it is but it brought back lots of memories.
ProJared I think you reinvented Lets Plays forever.
I played this campaign with a friend of mine it was both our first time playing d&d and it was alot of fun
These people are me and my friends in 5 years or so. I bet it'd be fun hanging out with Projared, he seems cool.
The guy on the left with the beard is awesome! Brutal.... But awesome, It would be great to run an adventure with him.
I'd love to see a graph of this videos views over time to see the giant spike over the past few days.
Well look at that. Thanks Captain!
"Do you ever hear the things you say?" Best part.
While watching this I saw your related Magic video, and holy crap will these be nice to have, if only cause me getting to play games like this is really sporadic, so it'll be nice to watch these really fast for a refresher, cause I find it a LOT easier to see these things played than going through rule books.
Love how the camera is set I feel like I'm sitting at the table with you guys
Is this the same dice camera action daith XD so hype
Legendary Milk Well he went down in one round, and missed with multiple daggers, so probably.
Less than a minute in and a GOT reference is made, lovely
16:40
Goblins: "This day was going to be perfect"...
this is alot more interesting than I thought it was, thanks for stearing me to this video from d&december on your main channel, if my local comic book store didnt close I might concider trying this out.
you know what improves DnD? music. background music, theme music, anything that increases immersion or personal connection. try it out if you haven't
+Gabe Ramirez He should try toe Morrowind or Oblivion OST, he could play it in his computer meanwhile they play.
3 minutes in and all im thinking, That Dude has a Curse mark from Berserk, like GUTS on his neck. Congrats on the awesome tat.
Oh wow, grid whiteboard board! Great idea!
eh ... soainroian... oensgpausngporn.....AESFIBWNEFSOUWBE.... BOARD BOARD! ESFNREOUBWKFN>!!
***** wut?

That Deekin reference though. I am so happy that it happened.
Come on do more! This is informative and fun to watch!
You punch the goblin in the jugular.
EUAEGHK.
Listening to this while shiny hunting
"Corpses always come in handy!" Things you simply don't expect to hear.
my family and I just started this campaign today. 👌 I'm playing as a halfling elf, my brother is a dwarven cleric, my mom is an elven wizard, and my dad is a DM. I think my mom is secretly enjoying it.
SnazzyWazzy How'd that game end?
the guy on the left has the sickest tattoos of all tattoos, I from now on shall declare him "Guts"
Jared sacrificed him for UA-cam fame and Josh swore vengence... but they talked over their differences and play DnD now
flanking is in the dm manual which I don't think had been released by this recording
39:21 Jared's face of "Oh, this horse shit begins now then..."
“I made a human rogue named Diath”
Gee Jared, did you?
Nice start, I always enjoy Neverwinter so this video should be fun to watch.
jareds face at 38:30 as he stares lifelessly into the camera

Real play podcasts are now a huge part of the TTRPG community, 8 years later lol
Always with Dieth
Omg Jared, I just started playing D&D (a half-elf ranger) for the first time and we are doing the exact same quest right now XD I hope yours goes more smoothly than ours has so far... Your video on the 5e set actually got me started ^^
