-Our Intro Song "Feel the Love" From Alex's band

The distortion of 60's Motown adds so much soul to it. You've GOT to hit some Smokey Robinson's "I Second That Emotion" and "Tracks Of My Tears"! Smokey's productions were top tier.
"Cruisin"

Oh yes... I 2nd that. ☝
The only thing you are missing is the Temptations' choreography. That would push it beyond S Tier.
Amen!
I was thinking the same thing!!
I unsubscribed from them because of the fact that they refuse to watch the videos I explained numerous times that that's the way we saw them when we actually heard the song but they refused to this video came up on my recommended list
@@Ahsosauce Videos are tricky for reactors. They can lead to their reactions being blocked for copyright reasons. Also, there are sometimes a few different versions of a video, and hoo-boy the fans get upset if reactors watch the wrong one (even if it's an "official" one)!
This reaction did not disappoint. Now that you’ve listened to it, you’ve got to see David Ruffin of the Temptations sing this. The Tempts performance is stellar.
Just My Imagination
Ugh, my faaaave
Yesssssss! SO good!
Runnin' away with me!
".........a cozy little home out in the country.......with two children,...maybe three!"
I was a wedding DJ for 20 years. I played this song at every single wedding. packs the floor with couples, every time.
still never gets old
The musicians were the funk brothers. The backbone of the motown sound.
Yes indeed. Most people aren't aware of that. There is a great documentary about The Funk Brothers that tells all about it. I believe it's called the Music Behind Motown, or something like that.
"Standing in the Shadows of Motown" from 2002. GREAT movie!
@victorsixtythree, that's it!!
@@victorsixtythreeYes it is. I’ve watched it a few times. The musicians were a key ingredient in the success of Motown. ❤️
Anyone who visits the Motown Museum in Detroit can actually go into Studio A where My Girl and all the big hits were recorded. What history there is in that place. 🥰
The opening bass line is iconic.
James Jamerson.
I love how, even though people tend to focus on his more melodically or rythmically complex bass lines, as examples of his genius, when he judged that a song needed something simple, he could produce something where every single note was measured to perfection.
So tasteful.
@@Murdo2112 Love the Ghost notes he's doing.
@@craigreid7178 They really drive the bassline and set the feel.
Smokey always says that whenever he plays a concert, the audience goes nuts the moment they hear that three-note bass line.
Jamerson was the master.
ICONIC if anything ever was iconic. 😊😊
There was NO-ONE who didn’t know what song was playing
after the first two chords. Brings me to tears!! ❤❤
Me too!
There is a companion song to this one, also written by Smokey Robinson, called My Guy performed by Mary Wells. This is equally worth a listen.
I have suggested Mary Wells many times.
"My Guy" has some pretty crafty lyrics. In the B-section, it manages to squeeze the phrases "matter of opinion", "matter of taste" and "matter of fact" into 4 lines and make it all sound completely natural. You don't even notice them until someone points it out.
"This is an incredibly well-written song" - Exactly why you need to finally hear something from Smokey Robinson who wrote it. His voice can melt icebergs too!
Bob Dylan was once asked who was America's greatest living poet..
His reply?
Smokey Robinson
My Dad was the lead guitar player for the Temptations in residency in Vegas for 8/9 years. He died at Caesars Palace
If you haven't covered it yet guys, you MUST cover "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" by the Temptations. It'll blow your socks off too!!
In my 60s and I'll still stop what I'm doing to dance around the room to this song.; car radios stayed up all night waiting to play it. "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" is the best follow-up!
Yes... "because it -means- that much to me."
(Lyrics... Ain't Too Proud To Beg" baby, baby! )
Oh darlin'...❤
they've done Ain't to proud to beg in a live stream
The Temptations and The Four Tops were the heart and soul of "Motown in the 60s. This song in particular, is truly iconic. If I had a nickel for every time this song has been played in either a tv, or movie scene, I'd be a rich man. When this song starts, with those opening Bass notes, a smile of anticipation comes to my face. The memories of my youth and where we lived, all come rushing back to me. Different era, and good times.
Thank you fellas
Well said!
Don't leave out The Supremes!
@@scottboswell6406 They were the sexiness of Motown. As was Marvin Gaye, I suppose.
"I Wish It Would Rain" is another absolute classic by them that you should hit.
This song was written by the great Smokey Robinson one of the co founders of Motown, I believe, with Berry Gordy. He was even dubbed America's poet by Bob Dylan for his impeccable song writing
Smokey Robinson wasn't a co-founder of Motown. He was one of their house songwriters, as well as being the frontman for the Miracles. When he left the Miracles he became the VP of Motown.
Cool, thank for the clarification!
this song is a Double S, triple S. One of the best songs ever written and performed
Never tire of hearing this immortal classic.
This is one of the greatest vocal performances in pop music history. David Ruffin had one of the sweetest voices ever recorded.
When I was in Basic Training for the Air Force in Jan. 1965 this song and "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling " played about every third song on the radio.
OK! Finally! I've been recommending this for 4 years A & A. Written by the incredible Smokey Robinson. My Girl is one of my top 10 songs, any genre, any decade, any time and anywhere. You should hear Smokey sing it. I got to see him in concert a few years ago and he still sounds beyond beautiful. So lucky to hear him.
For sure!
My mother played this on repeat back in the 60’s and we’d dance around the house. I still get goose bumps every time I hear it! ❤❤
Yes... you HAVE to loop the song. 🎵🎵🎵
The 1960s and early 1970s produced some the very best r&b, you guys really do need to fall down that rabbit hole. ❤
You should definitely go down the Motown rabbit hole. So many amazing talents. Temptations, Four Tops, Jackson 5, Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross, and so much more!
Their signature song, iconic, great, and the lyrics are like poetry. S-tier if ever there was one.
Maybe, but I prefer "The Tears of a Clown".
@@SpaceCattttt Good song, and the same composer, but that's Smokey and the Miracles, not the Temps!
@@kw99190 Smokey is the only one people remember by name. The background singers were interchangeable.
This, like most Motown hits, was recorded in a converted two-car garage on the back of a house. The session musicians that played on most Motown hits were The Funk Brothers.
Yeah. And most likely on a
2 track, maybe 4 track, tape recorder.
True, but let's not forget that the average American garage is larger than a luxury suite in Europe...
@@SpaceCattttt Motown Studio A was in a garage probably built before the 1940s.
How could this song not be S tier?
Who said it wasn’t S tier?
They rated it S.
They voted S tier. Alex was joking.
@@melaniebrown4660 my comment was rhetorical
Its overrated bruh
I’ve got sunshine on a cloudy day. What an uplifting open line to a song!
You need to watch them performing the song. That was part of the charm of Motown. I would play this in my high school classroom as recently as 2 years ago and all my students would immediately start singing. Detroit pride!
I witnessed many Motown acts. As a teenager back in the late 60's, early 70's I had a job as an usher in one of Toronto's top concert halls. Every year they brought in the very best of Motown such as The Temptations, The O'Jays, Gladys Knight and the Pips and many others. The music moved an entire generation and filled our night clubs and graced our dance floors with a cultural rhythm that absolutely inspired.
David Ruffin’s lead vocals are 🔥
You should be showing a picture of David Ruffin, The Temptations lead singer who sang the hell out of Smokey's song.
Hell yeah!
Correct smokey had no relation to the song
It is hard to imagine how we went from this to what passes for popular music today.
"Ball of Confusion" next, please. Totally different, the Temptations dig in HARD on that one
And then, the Love and Rockets cover of it next.
Perfect song
S tier lyrics
S tier song writing
S tier instrumentation
S tier vocals
*Rolling Stone* ranked it #43 in its latest edition of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time".
My question is: Where the hell are you going to find 42 songs better than "My Girl"?
Faultless, perfection, there is nothing bad or wrong or off about this song, sublime. ❤
Hit the dance floor! Oh memories!
In popular music history, this is by far an S tier song, influential, memorable, and timeless.
It's like Happy Birthday, or the star spangled banner, or pop goes the weasel.
It will still be played 100 years from now.
Written by Smokey Robinson, with an assist from Beethoven on the intro...
If you could only pick one song to signify Motown, this is it.
Love the Temptations music. This is part of the Motown era & they had a lot of hits in the 60's - 80's such as "Ain't Too Proud To Beg", "I Wish It Would Rain", "Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me)", "I Can't Get Next To You", "Treat Her Like A Lady" etc. They were known for their harmonies, choreography & dress style.
Totally agree on “I Wish it Would Rain”!
I Wish it Would Rain is one of my favorite Temps songs!
"Smoky Robinson, what a G." Truer words were never spoken.
Imagine every boomer singing this to their cats and dogs.
I can imagine every Gen Z singing Taylor Swift songs to their cell phone
I picture a boomer husband singing it to his boomer wife.
Please , I sing thrash metal to my cat. He’s that kind of guy
@@lesliedavis2185 well to each their own. I sing It Had to Be You, but that’s my kink.
Lol, this Gen X'er just sang this at my male cat right before I read this comment, you evil bastard. But I sing a large variety of songs at my pets. But this song is a fucking stone cold classic for a reason, and catchy as hell.
Psychedelic Shack or I Can’t Get Next to You. Hit The Supremes as well.
In the 60’s there were a few shows where you could see them sing live a few days a week. Such a special time
One of the most recognizable riffs in history
Next: "Ain't Too Proud To Beg." KILLER .
Done already, on Black History Month Live Stream - February 27, 2022. Worth watching the whole thing, for your Motown listening overload.
@@stevenmix3723 Thanks, I'll check it out!
One of the most iconic songs of the time. Yet this is the 1st reaction I’ve seen to it
MY GIRL, is one of the greatest songs ever written. It's perfect.
Welcome to the joy that is Motown.
One of my all time favorite songs. The bass, the horns, the voice and the lyrics. It helps that my girl and I have been together for 40 years and this song still reminds me of her 🙂
One of THE greatest American singer/songwriters/producers in history. I don't think that's too hyperbolic. lol
When you are a huge part of America's soundtrack you really are that special. Timeless.
Thank you for hittin' this! Also, listen to Tears Of A Clown, Cruisin', Shop Around. Too many to mention. He's awesome. A great American.
Bob Dylan called Smokey "America's greatest living poet."
Impossible to overstate Smokey Robinson's greatness!
They reacted to Tears of a Clown in a livestream. Don't think they were very impressed.
They were classy, brought back wonderful memories. No profanity pure love & joy.
The most elegant pop song of 20th century
David Ruffin, seemingly almost inconspicuously, added just enough emotive grit in the second half of this, to make an already great song, into something truly legendary.
It was a good time to be alive. I was exposed to all types of music and loved everything. The Motown sound.. Amazing.
Psychedelic Shack! That's where it's at! And Ball of Confusion!!!
Smokey Robinson: Track of my Tears!!! Great song.
One of the best songs. Ever.
Any bass player who's ever played the instrument knows, or should know, that opening bassline. Beyond iconic. This is one of the songs that helped put Motown on the map. Smokey Robinson wrote so many hits for various Motown artists... Including of course himself and the Miracles. Check out "More Love" by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. And "Just My Imagination" by The Temptations.
I've seen The Temptations individually, solo excursions, and as a group over the years as part of my early musical evolution. They were pure perfection.. among the most influential groups in modern popular music.
RIP to all of the original members.
In college 1970s I'd clown around claiming " I can do a great Smokey Robinson impression, but don't expect Miracles." Such a treasure! 😊
I refuse to believe that anyone could reach adulthood without hearing this song
This is one I find it hard to believe anybody hasn’t heard. One of the most ubiquitous songs ever, up there with Happy Birthday. 😄
We would attend the Michigan State Fair every year in Detroit in the fifties and sixties. For the small price of admission to the fair we would go to the band shell and see the following groups and singers; Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell, The Supremes, The Four Tops, The Jackson Five, Martha & the Vandellas, Smokey Robinson , Mary Wells ( I’ve Got Two Lovers) and many more!
I remember seeing the 5th Dimension and Michael Jackson at the Ohio State Fair in early 70s.
This is actually the aecond
Smoky Robinson song series. On 1964 he wrote "My Guy" for Motown's first female star, Mary Wells. It was a hit (and one you should definitely check out). A year later came My Girl. A pretty cool matched set!
Mary Wells was so wonderful.
Every week in the 60s there was another all-time great song showing up on the radio - or multiple ones the same week. What a time to be young. It was heaven.
Andy and Alex, you should watch the Temptations sing Papa was a Rolling Stone live. WATCH IT LIVE and prepare to be impressed!
Only absolute perfection.
Motown had an almost endless series of hits. These guys could mine that mother lode forever.
One of their best songs!
What an irresistible groove ! Classic Motown. This is one of the greatest recordings of all time.
Timeless classic ❤
I was a young teen when this first hit the airwaves. Can't even tell you how it still moves me to hear it.
No autotune on this classic. Just talent and groove.
This reaction is my sunshine on this cloudy day.
Ball of Confusion should be next by them!
That was after David Ruffin.
This is an all-time great Motown tune.
There's a film about the session musicians (The Funk Brothers) who played with Motown: "Standing in the Shadows of Motown." The singers did well but many of the musicians didn't make much.A lot of the guys were struggling to get by in old age. There was a particularly emotional moment with the guy (guitarist Robert White) who played that memorable opening guitar lick. Wonderful stuff.
Smokey wrote the lyrics of "My Girl" with his wife Claudette Rogers Robinson in mind. But he had hoped to write and produce a song with David Ruffin, the newest member of the Temptations, in the lead. "My Girl" introduced David Ruffin to the music world.
Music was ridiculously good in the 60s and 70s. I just took it for granted growing up with it but now when I listen I can really get how great it was.
"Sunshine on a cloudy day" really sets the tone. When you hear that line, you know your ears are in the presence of greatness!
Motown was huge back in the day. We wore the vinyl out playing the Temps Greatest hits and The Four Tops while washing our cars in the driveway at my buddy's house in the suburbs and sharing our tunes with the neighbors. RIP VRJ, my brother from another mother.
this is literally my favorite song ever
This song has always existed. This is the difference between a joyous song, and writing a joyous song -- it's so effortless -- Smokey let his heart write the song.
I saw Smokey about 20 years ago. His chill confidence was amazing -- he told a kinda smart-ass joke about him and Stevie Wonder, and it worked -- he called Stevie "Steve" so Stevie called Smokey "Smoke."
You cant go wrong with the Temptations they are one of my favorite groups and this song was written by Smokey Robinson
This was the first song I ever sang to my girlfriend and was the first dance at our wedding in 1987. I think it is the best song Motown ever made.
I’m glad you guys are getting back to some Motown. Smoky Robinson was an important songwriter for Motown and he was very involved in the production process so you can bet he had a lot to do with how this song turned out. I’m not sure what Miracle’s songs you’ve heard, but some of my favorites are Baby, Baby Don’t Cry and Ooh Baby Baby (which Linda Ronstadt did a great cover of). A couple other groups you really should check out are Junior Walker and the All-Stars (What Does it Take and Shotgun), and Martha and the Vandellas, who did some great tunes like Dancing in the Street and Nowhere to Run (fantastic song!).
THE Best Song of the Rock and Roll Era.
Motown really was Hitsville USA. The number of A+ and S tier songs is crazy high. Perhaps the silkiest, the love child of butter and cloud, is Ooh Baby Baby by Smokey. Wow. And the ending is stunning.
You just made this 78 year old lady's day!!
Love me some Temptations. Motown is such a great sound/genre.
Starts in C - considered by many to be the people's key. Then it transposes up to D - the happy hopeful key. Great vocals, honest poetry that's straightforward but not obvious or trite or maudlin, plus some tasty instrumentation and arrangement. A perfect love song in every way.
One of the greatest songs of all times. If you want to check a song in a similar vein, Todd Rundgren was inspired to write “We Gotta Get You A Woman” from this. It was a pretty big hit for Todd.
Back in the 80’s or 90’s my local news station used this in a commercial to promote their weatherman. So it was, “I’ve got sunshine on a cloudy day…” and some other creative lyrics, and then “who can make me feel this way? Bob Turk!” Awesome. WJZ-TV Baltimore REPRESENT
It has been played at weddings for over 60 years and at homecoming and school dances.
I never get tired of The Temptations. That sweet, sweet Motown sound. There’s nothing like it. My absolute favorite by them is “I Wish It Would Rain”. The back story on the song is heartbreaking but the performance is so soulful and perfect.
Over the years I have played this song so many times, in a bar, at a wedding, a class reunion or a state fair - it is never a filler song, it’s always guaranteed to pack the dance floor!
In it's day this was a Monster Hit. All radio stations played the hell out of it. My teenage years. Loved it! Easy sing along tune.
This was the best slow dance song in high school. The Temps are pure fire. Ball of Confusion is a personal favorite. ✌️❤️🎶
this was their first Number 1 hit in December of 1964. its all because of David Ruffin (the voice of The Temptations) because "No one comes to see you, Otis"
As Classic as Classic can possible be. I know all things were not great for all people when these tunes were created, but lord, they harken back to very different, and I believe in many ways better, somewhat simpler, yet still very complex times.
There are some songs that are so iconic, so engrained in the culture, that it's not a song anymore. It's an anthem, an explanation for being, why we do what we do, how we live. My Girl is that song.
This will still be loved 500 years from now.
So happy you gave this song an S tier rating, it's deserving and such a classic pop and Motown song. Your grandkids will be listening to this one!
Motown blew all our minds in the 60’s.
Your turn now fellas.
Hey guys, for a group like The Temptations, you must watch them live! They have great moves along with those voices. They don’t disappoint. LIVE
This song was huge in my middle & high school days. We would have school dances twice a year. So many memories. This song when kids hear it they love it.
