I like this idea if they could get it right. but the original sound they had was similar to this but it was too screechy. This is definitely better than what they had. I think they will probably nail it by time this hits production.
They should make it sound like a Tie-fighter from Star Wars. That sound effect wasn't created electronically but was made with a mechanical device called a "Stuka."
Ok so those big electric AC motors only make that sound under full hard start, so it’s possible but would probably ruin the range Would sound fkn cool though
It's damned if you do damned with if you don't with EVs. If they are silent they sound boring, but if they try to sound like an ICE in this case it sounds disingenuous and fabricated. Governments should just allow a small portion of ICE cars to remain...that's the answer!
5:56 they said they paid attention to the aerodynamics of the car. The front of the car has this open space in the grille Dodge refers to as the R-Wing. What this does is reduce the drag over the car without sacrificing the looks department. It may not get the best range, but I still think the range might be fairly good on the car
What the real issue is here is that driving a gas powered car is actually therapeutic. EVs will never scratch the itch, no matter what noises we try to get them to make.
The rumble of a cold start and idle while you wait on your car to warm up a bit before pulling out is one of the most relaxing things in my opinion. The only thing that could save EVs is if they would come out with an absolute monster of an EV with 4 massive electric motors for each wheel that push upwards of 1000 hp or more that are so loud you can hear them when they rev and a battery so big it takes a day or two to charge and you can toggle between AWD sport mode/2WD road mode that uses less power. If they want to make EVs seen as "sporty" put them on the track and make them capable. Making them "look" like muscle/sports cars is only half of the battle. I think Dodge really missed the mark with this car, though. The rear looks far too similar to a tesla and doesn't have the sharp angle that actually looks like a "muscle car".
Won't work. Can't be hacked. It's not connected to any sound system like that. It's literally the exhaust attached to an amplifier. Did you not watch the Video? Lol
Yes! this sounds so so SO much better than what I originally heard for their first iteration. The first one sounded like a vacuum cleaner, and now it sounds much more like an electric dodge challenger. Now honestly I think it needs to have less "engine" noise, or at least make it quieter.
I’m assuming there is a microphone at the motor, amplifier, and transducer sending sound through a tuned (exhaust) pipe. But, I could be wrong. Can you can rev the motor in neutral?
In a podcast, they said that it is a wind producing machine pushing air through a resonance chamber and pipes, basically like an organ. It is not a speaker, but not from a functional operation of the car.
As an ev fan, I personally would want a futuristic-electric motor sound. Heck don't change the sound at all, electric motors on their own make a cool noise. Just amplify that.
I still want the horse clip-clop sound from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, where they used an empty coconut. Maybe a lawn mower, or the Jetsons flying car would be funny too...
In a podcast, they said that it is a wind producing machine pushing air through a resonance chamber and pipes, basically like an organ. It is not a speaker, but not from a functional operation of the car.
Im not their customer so my opinion really doesnt matter, but if you're looking for the new tech but want the old sound it seems like a win. If you could choose between the futuristic sound and the engine like sound that might be the best of both worlds.
I like the idea of an EV making a "non-engine, yet engine-like" engine sound (if that makes any sense) because it gives the vibe that "this is not a powerful vehicle that runs on gas, but it's its own powerful vehicle in it's own lane." I like the sort of nuclear powered-esque or spaceship-like sound that the new EV makes that makes it different from a regular gas dodge. It gives it a same-but-different feeling to it.
