Sierra Rizzati I mean, that’s not that much compared to the people in her sphere like James Charles, Emma Chamberlain, etc. She’s just as talked about and known as they are, but she has 1/4 of the following
I second this... watching some of her earlier content (like when she filmed herself all dolled up and grocery shopping) I’ll never understand how she blew up like she did!
I love that "he f*kd me with a toothbrush" is a sentence that just out of context everyone knows if you're at all well versed in recent internet culture. What a time.
In the words of Amandabb: “I have no interest in the ratchet loud white girl” but I will be watching this whole video because I’ve gotta find out how she went from someone who made outrageous storytimes to being a scam artist who is constantly screwing up.
I'm going to need one of these about James Charles. No youtube in history has had a larger loss of subs after a scandal and simultaneously has such an amazing rebranding and uptick afterwards. Plus it's interesting how he capitalized on the Covergirl thing as a teenager and really built a huge brand for himself.
He had proof that Jeff, Tati, and Shane lies about him. Not much else to it. I dislike his content but he isn’t a damn rapist and Tati never got called out for assuming every waiter is str8.
@@asmrtpop2676 I’m sorry where? All I saw was enough receipts for viewers to get lost in and at the end, states he’ll be smarter with what he does online, not that he’ll work on his character but okay 🥴
The saddest thing about Tana for me, someone who’s watched her all five years, is that she’s totally lost the concept she was setting out for. She doesn’t care about her image or her fans at all. She has become the opposite of what she wanted. Unless she actually only wanted to get rich, in which case she got it! I’m sad. Lol
I think at first she did care, but at some point, the $$$ just balance all the drama, scandals and bad points of her yt career, so she probably just stopped caring, because whatever she does, she will earn sth off it. Sad indeed :/
I feel this. She's surrounded by yes-men who are happy to see her spiral as long as they're profiting off of it. As another day one fan (who flew across the country for Tanacon), her downfall has been devastating to watch. She seemed like such an excited-for-life lovable girl who just wanted to inspire people and make people laugh...now she's like a shell of a person.
On topic with the Idubbbz situation: I'm suprised SO MANY people made fun of Tana for being scared? Like, have people forgotten about Christina Grimmie? It's entirely valid to be scared of someone who randomly says A SLUR at a meeting greet, when you don't know them or what they're going to do
In Tana's first video about the incident she actually mentioned Christina Grimmie and was talking about how she worried Idubbz (before she knew who he was) might have a gun - and there was a lot of mockery for it when really, that's not unreasonable for a 17 y/o girl in America who's suddenly flown up in followers. Tana's got a lot of issues and there's a lot to criticise, but that would absolutely be a scary situation.
Tana was scared yes, however people didn't take her seriously because she completely lied and exaggerated the whole situation, idubbbz was pretty shitty for just showing up and saying a racial slur but what made it worse was how terribly she exaggerated and lied about it.
That's what I was thinking I feel like if that happened to me my mind would be flooded with thoughts like " should he have gotten searched" " am I about to die" " are a lot of people about to die" bc sadly almost every mass shooting in America especially in recent years has been racially motivated. Like even when I was in high school and had to go to the bathroom during class I would intentionally pick the hand cap stall bc thier bigger and easier to hide in incase a shooting happens like I could not imagine the anxiety she went through being faced with an actual potential threat from her point of view at least
in the vid she made, she claimed that she couldnt get out of his grip because his arm was around her neck and said other lies. the point of his video was proving that she lies in her videos. which he did prove. nobody is saying she shouldn't have been nervous or creeped out, and nobody is making fun of her for BEING scared, theyre making fun of her for lying about the whole thing. the point was to show that she lies and exaggerates. which she did.
I think most people were coming at it from the angle of idubbz, which is thinking it’s a prank and not actually harming her, and also knowing his reasoning for playing the “prank” in the first place, where tana did not. She was also known for being an exaggerator at the time so it was assumed that if her reaction was dramatic it was because she was faking it for views. In retrospect it’s definitely not cool and kind of pathetic on idubbz part but at the time I think those were the main reasons
I am convinced that someone at MTV has a daughter that went to tanacon and wanted revenge because that show made her look like TRASH and they didn't even try to spin it. They didn't even care that people stopped watching because they started hating her lol
I think so too the whole thing was just so weird they made her look like shit which she would obviously be mad about so I don't get why they would do that. Even if she was acting badly wouldn't they make her look OK to appease her
She made the mistake of letting them control the edit and a drunk, obnoxious, entitled UA-camr is going to play so much better for the MTV crowd. Look at their other programs.
Alexandra N I’m under the impression that she didn’t read EVERY *LITTLE* DETAIL of her contract. If so, I also think she probably missed the part where she couldn’t buck what they wanted etc.
As someone who found Tana’s content around the “bleach and tone” merch, I couldn’t agree more with your analysis on her UA-cam career. I am only two years older than she is, and at the time I found her content very relatable. I was kind of a goody-two-shoes in high school and partied more through college, and I feel I grew up with Tana in a way. But at this point, the act wears thin and you can only screw up the same way so many times. Maybe one day Tana can come back to UA-cam with the passion she once had and prove us all wrong. She definitely knows how to stay relevant though, I will give her that.
She was always messy just didn't show it until a few years later just watch her storytimes which are about her when she was like 15-16. But yes I feel like her passion is gone she used to post multiple times a week its actually kind of sad as I do feel like the l.a lifestyle brought her down even more and her family problems
i really wish more people talked about how she fully lied about dating mac miller and still, to this day, constantly milks his death as a way for her to get clout and attention. that's ultimately what caused me to stop supporting tana, and literally no one ever talks about this.
Also important to mention that Gabbie almost got ‘cancelled’ over the Kenza Cosmetics scam, but when Tana did it, no one seemed to care. This also proves that when it comes to Tana, people have zero expectations anymore. Kind of sad
from what i saw, people weren't as upset with tana because she did make a genuine apology, compared to gabbie who was very condescending and just straight up told people "well it's your fault for buying these brushes, you should have known something like this might happen." to be honest though, the kenza cosmetics scandal wasn't NEARLY as bad as other's and she did actually own up to making a bad move, and she apologized to her followers and anyone who bought the brushes.
💗🐰🌸Marie-Tea🌸🐰💗 agreed - gabbie seems to forget how young a lot of her audience is and she explains things like they should know social media scams people all the time, when they might not understand that yet. She’s very condescending.
YES!!!! i waz wondering if that would be included in this video, but I kinda figured it wouldn't be because it seems not many people know about it, and the ones who do, don't really care 😖
Tana's character is like the " cool girl" mentioned in gone girl. She constantly claims to be different, honest , real and "not like other girls", but in reality she is just like every stereotypical LA "influencer."
That's not the takeaway of gone girl at all. The takeaway from it is that a lot of women pretend to be the cool girl to appeal to the male gaze and it sickens the main character that her husband fell for that scam instead of seeing the real her with flaws and all because she thought he was smarter than to think women would so easily be able to fit in vapid stereotypes instead of being the fully fleshed out people that they are. Replacing one stereotype by another stereotype is doing the exact same thing.
@Dov Lazar I guess it's just very bothering to use a small part of a book's argument to prove something that kinda goes against one of the biggest argument of the book. It's like people who watch fight club and think it's an ode to people like Tyler Durden while ignoring that the entire third act of the movie is the main character going against Tyler and everything he represents because he's a toxic dangerous threat. Art can be interpreted different way yes and that's great but when it's brought up in an argument to promote an idea that is literally one of the major point the art is trying to deconstruct, that's just wrong. Like fascist using 1984 to say it's about the liberal attacking "free speech" when it's literally about fascism. Ultimately I need to chill. It's not a big deal and you're right but I needed to make it clear that it's not really the message of Gone Girl because I don't want people who could be its targeted audience sleeping on that book because they have a bad idea of what it's about.
I've somehow managed to avoid seeing Tana's content over the years and never did a deep dive into what she's all about (it seemed I was better off not knowing), so I am weirdly stoked to watch this???
I honestly have been finding myself more and more attracted to this type of “long” content kind of videos. D’Angelo Wallace just spoke about this on his last video and I completely agree. More essay type and more thought out. I’m here for 45min or more to enjoy the ride with the content creator :) PS sorry if there were any misspelled words. English is my second language 🙈
Honestlyyyy, videos like this by Dangelo, amandabb or even slightly shorter ones by people like ItzKeisha or Tee Noir are so enjoyable. Especially when the commentary is actual commentary and not just hate
Rue Bennett haha I wanted to say that’s crazy but I guess it’s not really because they’re amazing at what they do so it makes sense 😂 and yep I’ve seen Luke’s vids
Ribotto Studios because Shane himself has never changed, I think he “helps people“ but doesn’t actually encourage people to change their behaviors. He, in the Tana series, I feel like it was a lot of putting the blame on Michael Weiss, on the Jake Paul video he wasn’t putting the blame on anyone, he was just using mental illness and disorders like sociopathy as an excuse for Jake’s shitty behaviors. I only watched the Jeffrey Starr series to the part where they talked about Jeffrey saying the N-word, and it was just excuse after excuse. Shane doesn’t hold himself to changing his behaviors, so he doesn’t encourage anyone “helps” to change their behaviors either.
The eugenia video he literally said the most insensitive comments LITERALLY she was like “ idk what type of video i would post when first coming back “ and he dead ass tried to joke and say “ just post a mukbang” LIKE ????? It was so sad to watxh an now she’s right back to where she started
But that can't be it because Shane is such an empath and he just loves helping people and you can tell that it's true because of how often he feels the need to tell you with his words instead of I don't know, proving it with his actions
I always found Tana's story kind of sad. There's something that seems so real about her unlike some of the other 'problematic' creators. Like I knew so many girls like her in high school who just had a terrible home life and fell into the wrong things early on. Any one of them could've been her. And the unfortunate thing is I'm not sure much will ever change with her, at least not in the near future - she goes through the same cycles of behaviour over and over. I think she partly originally used UA-cam originally as a coping mechanism where she could get the love and attention she lacked from her parents and tell some of her traumatic, and other storytimes and turn it into funny, exaggerated entertainment that people actually wanted to hear about and watch. She could be self-deprecating and air all her insecurities which would only cause her fans to tell her how much they loved and respected her. But I think now her reputation has taken away all consequences for the things she does and so she is rewarded with attention for the atrocious behaviour she does.
its super sad. when she daid she started to embrace the hate/narrative around her that she was a fuck up and everyone hated her already, damn. crazy audiences cant be held accountable for shit like this
I would love to see “an evolution of Freele the banana girl”. She has always fascinated me in terms of how she has changed. She went from her hardcore attacks of young teenagers online to after her breakup changing to a “peace and love” vibe and then changed back to her hardcore vibe.
exactly. since highschool, I have a phrase I use whenever i need to abruptly change the subject, (ie the person my bestie and I are quietly talking about suddenly appears,) and its “and that’s why I always use a towel!” My best friend says, “and so I said, ‘if she can spread her legs that far she MUST be a ballerina’!” I feel like this sums up Tana’s stories and content.
This series you have going is definitely 'your thing' you cover these topics so well in-dept and if you keep being consistent with this the algorithm is gonna reward you
Yeah and I feel like the people around her enable her. I hope she gets out of this mindset in a few years but I feel like this partying lifestyle gives her the distraction she wants.
Alexandra N Yes! Her friends really allow her to treat them terribly and act awful, and I think it’s mostly because they dont want to lose their “clout”.
I feel like we don’t talk enough about how creepy Shane’s and Tanas relationship was. Shane in general has a creepy tendency to ‘befriend’ teenage girls.
I think it was a combination of her being one of the only transgender women so outspoken about her experience on the platform (besides og women like Gigi Gorgeous) , and also the fact that she was friends and associated with powerful people at the time such as Jeremiah Starfish. I think people also were intrigued by her success and lavish lifestyle
She represents trans people where there isn’t much representation but she’s a social climber like she hung with JS in his 30s (I think?) then Manny, Laura, etc. When they were popular and I haven’t seen stuff of her with any of them since they got canceled 😂 and now she’s hanging with 16 year old tik tokers cuz they popular
@@olivasalome706 the crazy thing about her is 2016 or 2017 is the time when jeffree wouldn't be seen with her and people endlessly speculated what made them stop being friends. It was after dramagedden that she became 10 times more famous and was suddenly seen at real celebrity red carpets, even though she stopped making make up tutorials. So, it's extremely mysterious what happened to her or what strings she pulled to get Kardashian famous for no reason. The obvious inclination is a sugar daddy. I have a feeling tana knows and wants to tell badly.
Literally, like I understand some people have had INSANE things happen to them and have had a crazy life but it’s easy to tell who’s genuine and who’s a liar !!
It's interesting how, even when discussing female UA-camrs who have many issues, they were derailed by male UA-camrs who are way more toxic and vile who never took the same hit for their behavior.
I have to say that Idubbbz does get a LOT of shit for what he does. But to be fair, Tana was derailing herself, he just also made a video about it. It wasn’t like she was some squeaky clean UA-camr he called out for nothing, she was screaming the N word at her friend and then went hard saying she thought it meant friend. Idubbbz was showing her how ridiculous she was being. I don’t think everyone has to like what he did obviously, but it wasn’t his fault... she said what she said.
@@anyalaASMR My point, in reference to the original comment, is that he didn't derail Tana's career, she was ruining it just fine herself and that he equally gets his fair share of hits for his behavior.
Cathy K I’m not disagreeing with Tana derailing herself, but I would also say iDubbbz does not get nearly enough hits for the crap he pulls. He gets away with so much under the guise of “mocking” others. He’s a rather nasty person in his own right
Tana’s “troubled party past” always reminded me of Gossip Girl. Like these kids are 17 and they talk about their “past” like it was another lifetime ago - like what, you were out on the town at 9? I doubt it 😅.
If I have to be honest it wouldn’t really be that shocking, you just gotta see these type of crowds once to know of their existence (however It doesn’t excuse shitty behavior)
I know she mentioned that she started doing heavy drugs at 14 in the party scene. So yeah it was quite a while ago. Things change really fast for teenagers so it's fair. That's why it's still weird when a 16 year old dates a 13 year old when it's technically just 3 years apart. Even your brain is pretty different in between.
If you look at government substance use statistics, even in north america there are 12 and 13 year olds smoking weed and doing opiates so yeah that's believable.
I used to LOVE tana because of how *real* she portrayed herself to be, but after the reality show came out (especially season 2) it really showed a side of her none of us had ever seen before and it really rubbed me the wrong way, and now with her lack of addressing all the racism I just can't stand her anymore tbh
Thank you for talking about idubbz. It was so infuriating watching him get praised for that. People wanted to hate Tana and call her out for hypocrisy more than they cared about racism ( they didn't care at all.) He claims he wants to fight racism by using the word but weirdly enough he has never done anything else to combat racism. It's so clear he doesn't care about black people or our issues, and neither does Tana but at least Tana has been exposed for that. It's 2020 and people still act like idubbz is anything more than a racist edgy pseudo intellectual
Ugh thank you! I was pretty young when that scandal came out and to watch people praise idubbz for calling out Tana for saying the N-word by...gleefully saying it himself???? It really hurt me. I realized then that no one really cared that she was racist, they just wanted to cancel her for something. Cause how do you not cancel the white man for turning around and doing the same thing?
Something I noticed whenever she starts crying. She sounds like she’s in the middle of a yawn. I remember hearing about this acting tip that if you want to sound like you’re crying and sobbing, you should start a yawn and talk. It makes your voice sound very shaky and like you’ve started to sob. I feel like I’m explaining it really poorly but idk. Maybe she really was upset and anxious at that time. Or maybe she’s just really good at manipulation. Who knows?
Her nasal cavity has been majorly plugged for years, I'm sure snorting crap, smoking, and asthma doesn't help. I want to believe it's due to her condition but she is extremely manipulative
Melissa Elkins I’m willing the give her the benefit of the doubt that it’s her condition; my mother had something similar but her’s was able to be corrected. Just based off how she sounds (and obviously what she’s said about it), it seems like she’s telling the truth.
I think the MTV show really damaged her brand. Her persona is all about being too cool and not caring about anything and being self-centered and messy and consequence immune and to her young fans that can come off as empowered and rebellious and even aspirational but MTV showed how tiresome and frustrating it's actually like to be around someone like that and her fans stopped relating to her and started relating to the people she was screwing over. I think the two most damaging episodes were the one where Tana doesn't care about having asthma and freeform coughs all over LA which aired post-Corona and the one where Tana promises to pick up her friend after his surgery, flakes on him and then guilt trips him out of being mad about it. The comments in both those episodes are full of her fans completely aghast at her behavior even though her behavior is totally consistent with her persona, I think it destroyed the fantasy of the whole thing for Tana's fans.
I'm the same age as Tana and used to be one of those fans of hers that just stayed with her through everything. It was almost like I grew up with her tbh. Like when she still had the goody persona at the start of her career, I was in high school. Then when it switched up to partying and drinking, it aligned with my life because I was in undergrad doing the same things. But now i'm 22 and in grad school and have grown out of the parties and drinking, but Tana is still in that phase. So the past year or two is really when it feels like I'm not growing up with her anymore, if that makes sense lol. Like I kept growing while she stayed the same. It kind of feels like when you leave your hometown, but you still see the people in your hometown on social media doing the same stuff you used to do and not really growing out of it.
Yes this is exactly how I feel I'm 22 as well. I hope she gets out of this but I feel like she needs to move she's looking for distractions which you can find very easily in L.A.
I remember her older videos...I was so excited to find her content. She’s was sooo entertaining and such a good story teller. I remember her always saying that she’s never change and that she’ll stay true. Now look what happened
ikr? she was a teenager and i would’ve reacted the same way. and the fact that nobody cared about him saying the n word but canceled tana for it was beyond me.
The first thing I thought of when the recent Cody Ko allegations cropped up was this clip talking about it. It’s wild to think of how the perception changed of that video with the added context. (Rightfully so)
Taking a smart, critical look at other people’s careers/content like this is my absolute FAVORITE kind of content to consume. They’re also great to put on in the background, so I routinely watch this sort of video like, several times lol
yep, me too. it's so interesting because 'youtube star's are still relatively new, and those who have been around long enough you can talk about their evolution are only just becoming a thing. where there have been thousands of articles and books written about film stars or musicians say, what happens to these people is still uncharted territory rather than cliche. and it's a different type of fame - more intimate, less consisting of a specific 'talent'....i'm SO curious about the fate of the most successful and problematic and unlikable youtubers (jake paul, ricegum level of rich and obnoxious) in say ten or even twenty years from now... because a washed up musician always has their music to go back to, you know? i mean, i guess jake , tana and ricegum will always have their contribution's to rap music...
Hannah I see it similarly! As you said we are finally at a point where youtubers careers are long enough that the rise and trajectory can be tracked, compared, etc. It is setting a new precedence for studying the effects and trends of social media in an anthropological way. This will be the first round of the “new norm” with how many current & aspiring “influencers” there are now. Future of human studies. There is a yt who did some anthro assessments of a certain youtuber. Liam, i think. You should check it out if you havent seen already. He does a collegiate level deep dive!
Cat W yes cat we are definitely on the same page with our interests! - I’m curious to see this deep dive - who was it about? How do I find this Liam’s channel?
"Acknowledging you messed up doesn't excuse nor fix what you've done." Something I've noticed with Tana and many other influences is that they'll do whatever it takes to get back in the audience's good graces but not to fix the damage. Apologies and "taking responsibility" aren't worth much when you don't show remorse and you don't face the consequences.
I usually find “drama” type channels and videos to be so obnoxious..I can’t listen to a stranger talking about another stranger like they know them in some tabloid way but your videos aren’t like that. I’m not a fan of any these UA-cam/“influencer” people and wish the influencer thing would go away but when you discuss it, you do it in a way that’s tasteful, respectful and entertaining and manage not to insult or trash the person you’re speaking about (even if they maybe deserve it) you come across as someone who doesn’t make these videos for gossip but to give constructive criticism which I think is important especially considering most of these celebs are like gods to young, impressionable fans. the way you speak on this is tasteful and I think that’s why you’re received so well...at least by me☺️☺️
I feel like tana is really lost and doesn't know who she is. She got into this very public life at a very important age in her life and everyone was telling her that they love seeing her living an unhealthy lifestyle and so I feel like she thinks that she should be this way or no one would like her anymore and I think that's really sad if thats true
Does any one remember when her assistant came out and fully exposed her ass on blast for being an awful person and she just had her fans attack her and call her a liar despite the assistant having proof and her having none? Or you know that time she promoted a scam to all her fans and got no backlash for it?
I honestly like Tana’s old content, but now she’s lost her “relatable” charm and her selfishness has come to light. Tbh she’s still funny but her content has been poisoned by her personality
ABSOLUTELY!!! i fell in love with her because of how relatable she was, after watching her what’s in my bag video. i enjoyed her old story times but now since getting rich, she tries to still be that crazy screaming girl but now it’s just cringy
Did people really let her get away with saying she thought the N word just meant friend? Her jokes about picking cotton and her aggressive use of it proves she knew exactly the weight that word caries.
I do think its still insane that Idubbz said the N word in almost every video and these people were always canceld for saying it once or twice in a old tweet and he said that someone once called him the N-word so he could say it. It always made me annoyed and I recall when this situation was covered by Phill Defranco he said with ) irony that Idubbz wasnt racist though and when he says the N-word its ok so its not fair to call him a hypocrite because he is doing it "for a reason" , that and a few other things are what made me realize Defranco is biased sometimes and doesnt acknowlge that and I stopped watching him soon after. Also Idubzz was an adult driving hours to get to a teenagers meet and greet for a video to be "savage"? It is extrem;ly creepy in retrospect, Alizee has good video that mentions that about the more recent Idubzz scandal
I’m really glad that some other people are saying that iDubbz is wrong for regularly using slurs. I realized this a little bit ago and suddenly wondered why I’ve never heard anyone call him out on it. My rant isn’t related to Tana but I just wanted to share my thoughts :P
@@createdtogaze I feel like it has to do with his audience? like a lot of them were the 'anti-sjw' types but I'm still confused by it, I just never saw call outs for him orz
THANK YOU!!! not trying to defend Tana but I always thought that Idubbz was super weird for doing what he did to Tana and especially when he also said the racial slur
idubbbz was always such an incelbait alt right weirdo, it really bothers me that anyone with credibility cosigned him as valid or legitimate because he sucks, and he always has sucked. it was so odd how this adult man in his late twenties absolutely revelled in the takedown of a 17 year old girl for doing something once that HE did literally /all the time/. i really laughed when his entire fanbase cancelled him because he "allowed" his girlfriend to have an onlyfans. when you lie with dogs you get fleas
@@Okkkkkkk-ol5kz Still, I would argue that she is MUCH more put together than Gabbie and Trisha have been. Obviously she is not perfect but considering that she is a mom and has an entire career in UA-cam, she is actually doing really well.
I mean tbh she wasn’t that good in the beginning, she just hid her true colors. I watched her back in 2016 and loved her until the truth started pouring out.
@@RadEdits Same, I used to go hard for Tana in the beginning of her content but after lying about the n-word, going through hoops about addressing it and owning up to using it, and the idubbbz content cop (as someone who liked his content with joji/max back in the day too) I dipped. I see Ian's logic is kind of bs now and I don't agree with it anymore, but Tana's blatant lying really hurt me at the time
Someone mentioned how you look like the girl who has all of her notes and post its ready at 8 am class, which is absolutely me, and since then I can't stop watching your videos and feeling strangely represented. Keep it going, notes and big glasses sister, you rock.
i still remember her saying that because mac miller used the n word in his music she thought it was okay. mac miller NEVER used the n word in his music ¿
exactly! this isn’t the worst thing she’s done but it never sat right with me, i grew up on mac miller and i remember when that video came out and she said that and i was shocked and knew it was a lie, and then for a year or two later when mac passes she was posting all about him and saying how close they were, and it hurt as a mac fan knowing that he would NEVER have spoken to her if he had known about the fact she said that about him. so she makes this big excuse about how she thought it was okay to say bc “mac did” and then does that when he passes. it makes me so angry
@@hennahmarie7054 I completely agree. I know she was young but it baffles me that anyone would use an excuse/lie that could be so easily fact-checked and disproven
that was the first thing i thought about when she was exposing their "relationship" immediately after he passed. she only ever brought him up to benefit herself
In some ways I feel so sorry for Tana. Like if there was ever a person who needed a full on detox, rehab from LA/ influencer lifestyle, its her. People say "oh she was young" when she started but 15 is a literal child- was there anyone in her life holding her accountable? Its almost like she was a child star who had 0 real life consequences and became an adult with...0 real life experience. On the other hand, she's clearly manipulative and not a very nice person. Great video.
I love how idubbbz, like shane, is losing his power as the content cop of youtube. His "edgy humor", but really just racist and homophobic statements for shock value, should have caught up to him by now... But at least now content creators don't need to suck up to him in fear that they might get content copped.
Honestly I think idubbz’s decline in relevancy is a really good example of how the commentary community has evolved. I feel like in the heyday of content cop it was a lot. Smaller? (At least from what I personally remember) but it’s much bigger (and more diverse) now, and the voices that are popular are less edge lordy. I think having a that’s cringe made on someone would probably be a bigger hit to their career than a content cop at this point, which is funny bc that’s not the intention of that’s cringe
I'm so glad its finally happened tbh because it was so dizzing? i guess? to see idubbz, someone who justified his use of slurs, jump on the tana hate-train when she got called out for the same thing. So uncomfortable to see commentary channels I used to like pretend that that was okay.
I think what gets overlooked a lot is that she was SO YOUNG when she started. She clearly had a rough time before UA-cam and then suddenly had a mad amount of money and freedom and was surrounded by yes people enabling her and not supporting her. TanaCon clearly wasn't wholly her fault, I think it could have been handled better on the day but you can't expect a 20 year old to organise a huge event like that especially when she apparently has a professional on board. No one expect herself has ever held her accountable and why would she start behaving herself now when she is rolling in money and fame? Although she has massively gone off the deep end now.
This. I really agree with this. I grew up in very similar situations to her and carry imagine what would've happened to me if I had a ton of money and enablers and didn't end up pregnant and then turning my life around. I really can see how she has turned into this.
I worry about tana, despite everything. Although she's privileged, her fame is built on being a punching bag. She even says she doesnt have any talents, and is only famous b/c of drama. Unfortunatly, her whole team clearly promotes all of these behaviors to line their own pockets. Tanacon, MTV, the wedding etc, were clearly orchestrated train wreck entertainment and she's the designated martyr. Which makes her over compensation with drugs and alcohol make sense. If I thought my only worth was to be hated by the world so my completely dependent friends and employees could live cushy lives I'd probably be pretty fucked up. I mean, no one hates on Jordan for promoting these things or her friends for lounging around her mansion all day. It doesn't excuse all of her other flaws, or the fact that shes clearly complacent in scamming fans. But a person can only stand so much, especially from such a young age.
Her friends are just as shitty??? Like they're so obsessed with getting a check mark to feel validated that they constantly complained about it throughout the entire mtv show
@@tiffanylastinger3925 yeah her circle of friends are all entirely dependent on her remaining relevent somehow so they can rich off her back. they watched her do all of this stuff she would obviously get large amounts of hate for because it wouldnt come back on them at all and they get to continue living large. And her manager just leads her down crooked path after crooked path. And while I think shes equally responsible for her choices and her "branding", I don't think she's the mastermind that a lot of people think she is. And I can't blame her for being messed up for it.
I’m only half way so maybe it’s addressed, but it really bothered me when her friends on the MTV show were like “‘man I hope tana’s okay otherwise we’re fucked” and that’s so disgusting. Like how do you say that out loud to her face, let alone into a camera? It’s no wonder she got that apartment to get away from everyone. I’ve followed her for several years, disappointed much of the time, but I also think that it’s so easy to see where her pain and behavior is coming from
And if you include into that the way she would always describe her parents and her upbringing...like her parents in her own words “never should have been parents” and acted like she was a burden to them and then her friends are exactly the opposite... clingy and riding her coat tails for fame and money (only... probably) there was never just a comfortable middle for her where ppl just loved her for being her with no strings attached.
An evolution of Philip Defranco’s content would be very interesting. His content growth and growth as a person has been pretty public. I used to follow his channel on and off for years, and can remember the deeply misogynistic days to his more recent Dad days.
Ooo didn’t even know he had an ‘interesting’ past, I only know him from his podcast so I get those major major dad vibes. A video on him would be super interesting!!
@@Kiryu_Maji Just because a person learnedt o change their behavior to avoid criticism, that doesn't mean they changed their mindset. he is and will always be a misogynist
Helena Riley he used to have a section of his show called Megan Fox watch, some babes of the day type stuff, and just generally had a ‘fratty’ attitude towards women- I would chalk it up to immaturity and he’s been pretty open that he finds that part of his career cringy and wrong
Honestly I never understood the whole idubbz incident and why everyone ended up on his side. Like I know that white supremacy runs deep, but I'm still kind of astonished that people thought that this edgy white guy had made some kind of deep point when he mocked another white person for using the same racial slurs that he uses. Like what was really achieved there?
I used to agree with him bc of internalised misogyny and that ridiculous justification for using slurs. I’ve learned since then that a straight white cis male has absolutely no right to say what slurs are okay to say and aren’t. And I’ve stopped supporting a lot of sexist people so I’m not surrounded by misogyny anymore (*ahem* pewdiepie). I can only hope that people stop supporting bigotry just because white men are the ones saying it.
The first time I heard of Tana was the video she did about Freelee. I was actually really impressed that this kid had the guts to publicly stand up to Freelee, and say exactly what she wanted to. I stopped watching Tana for good when she did a storytime about being drugged in a hotel, and then said she watched this person who druged her go and drug another girl the next night, but said nothing. I commented under that video about how irresponsible that was, and her stans CAME FOR ME. That was the first experience I'd had with stans. I was shocked at the death threats and the name calling. Since then, of course I've watched all the drama unfold, but I've never watched her channel again, and will definitely never comment on her stuff again!
Do you know if this video is still up on her channel? That whole situation sounds fucked because 1) The stans don't understand the seriousness behind it and 2) Young content creators should not just deal with being drugged and letting others be drugged as a result of being a popular content creator.
The sad thing is that I've seen Tana make really smart, intelligent jokes that a stupid person couldn't. She was genuinely intelligent. I don't like seeing someone destroy their lives like this.
Agreed. He needs to be called out for him supporting bigotry and the violent affect he’s had. The use of slurs by oppressors makes bigots feel more empowered to act upon their hatred, either politically or through violence. He normalizes racism, homophobia, transphobia, and ableism.
I would love to see you do Natalia Taylor. her story is peculiar? with her kidnap and then her getting a girlfriend and then supposedly having schizophrenia??? she’s definitely grown as a person but i remember her journey and being so confused as a viewer
idubbbz didn’t get enough flack for what he did. the whole saying the n word and other derogatory words aside, which IS awful, he flew to a whole different state to meet an UNDERAGE tana mongeau while he was in his mid twenties to... teach her in person that what she did was wrong? no, basically harass her. like???
Disagree. He had great ass points in that video and he didn't do a single thing wrong. She's a drama queen and if she wasn't harrassing in the first place it wouldnt have been a big deal. Girl got served 😂
As a black woman, I remember being so confused about the Idubz thing because he really thought he did something...matter of fact, a lot of his white fanbase really thought he did something & saved the mf day on behalf of black people. Just like when PewdiePie said the N word and his fanbase said that because it was out of context, it wasn't a big deal.
idubz was definitely one of those youtubers that was a part of the alt right pipeline, the amount of teenage yt boys who openly supported and agreed with him is very concerning.
At 44 minutes when she’s being confronted by the lies of tana con you can literally see her face flip! It’s creepy! She goes from the “im a sweet confused wittle girl” face she does (annoying AF) to what I like to call her “Manipulation & confusion” face. That tells me everything I need to know about her & her goals. “Get better role models!”
This was pretty fascinating since I really had no clue about the origins of Tana but knew her only from the Tanacon situation. Some suggestions for evolution videos: iiSuperwomanii Trisha Paytas (much like Tana, I have no idea where she came) Jenna Marbles The evolution of youtube humor aka the skits that everyone would do back in old youtube ... This entire thing sent me searching for some og youtubers on youtube rewind and I have never felt so old when I saw Double Rainbow song.
Tana isn’t famous, she’s infamous. That’s why everyone knows her despite not having the biggest following.
Whats definition of infamous?

Everytime I considered skipping an ad, I remembered that Smokey sat through Tana's music videos more than once for US.

Tana wants to be a rapper's girlfriend and that's literally her whole personality
This is actually so true.
Facts
Nothing wrong with that I guess. Lol
Casey W. wanting to, okay fine but when that’s her whole personality I’d when it gets bad
No real rapper would ever date her.
Right! I first liked her because of her story times. Then she completely departed from that and started posting less and posting other things..
She probably just changed. She was 16. She grew up for better or for worse.
THIS
On topic with the Idubbbz situation: I'm suprised SO MANY people made fun of Tana for being scared?
Even if she was acting badly wouldn't they make her look OK to appease her
Honestly, good for the daughter 💀✨
She made the mistake of letting them control the edit and a drunk, obnoxious, entitled UA-camr is going to play so much better for the MTV crowd. Look at their other programs.
To look at it a different way, what is that WAS them spinning it to make her look better 😳 just a thought
I can only hope that in a few years time she will look back on her behaviour with shame...but I doubt it
well said!
Kelsy Nicole amandabb is just 💗💓💞💕💝💘💖
Alexa Hokai Yes I love her videos!! Amandabb and Smokeyglow are two of my faves 💖
i really wish more people talked about how she fully lied about dating mac miller and still, to this day, constantly milks his death as a way for her to get clout and attention. that's ultimately what caused me to stop supporting tana, and literally no one ever talks about this.
Doesn't she talk about it here ?
Agreed, only Ariana had a right to talk about Mac in a romantic way
Also that time she filmed the dead body of a homeless person and then mocked them in a vlog Logan Paul style. By far her most reprehensible act imo
Also important to mention that Gabbie almost got ‘cancelled’ over the Kenza Cosmetics scam, but when Tana did it, no one seemed to care. This also proves that when it comes to Tana, people have zero expectations anymore. Kind of sad
I think people were more upset with Gabbie over the “manage your expectations” comment.
from what i saw, people weren't as upset with tana because she did make a genuine apology, compared to gabbie who was very condescending and just straight up told people "well it's your fault for buying these brushes, you should have known something like this might happen." to be honest though, the kenza cosmetics scandal wasn't NEARLY as bad as other's and she did actually own up to making a bad move, and she apologized to her followers and anyone who bought the brushes.
tana also had 2 poc make a storytime sayinf she’s racist (kahlen barry and simplynessa)
💗🐰🌸Marie-Tea🌸🐰💗 agreed - gabbie seems to forget how young a lot of her audience is and she explains things like they should know social media scams people all the time, when they might not understand that yet. She’s very condescending.
Or that they are too lineant with her
I’d also like to add she has a deleted video where she finds basically a dead body in the bathroom and nobody talks about it.
WAT
YES!!!! i waz wondering if that would be included in this video, but I kinda figured it wouldn't be because it seems not many people know about it, and the ones who do, don't really care 😖
S K i believe it was an overdosed homeless man? But she complained about it and I’m pretty sure it might still be around
i never saw or heard about this, woooooow
oh my gosh, I COMPLETELY forgot about this.
The funniest part of the Stalker series to me was the email that she claimed was sent by the Stalker was literally plagiarized from Wattpad
😂 Really??
FR☠️☠️???
Tana's character is like the " cool girl" mentioned in gone girl. She constantly claims to be different, honest , real and "not like other girls", but in reality she is just like every stereotypical LA "influencer."
Wow you’re so right
Got the same vibe,in my opinion people that feel the need to claim that shit are usually very insecure
100/100

It's so INTERESTING that all these people that Shane TRIED to HELP, have just you know.....NOT AT ALL changed. Huh. How bout dat.
Shane doesn’t hold himself to changing his behaviors, so he doesn’t encourage anyone “helps” to change their behaviors either.
it's because he doesn't encourage change. only rebranding
The eugenia video he literally said the most insensitive comments LITERALLY she was like “ idk what type of video i would post when first coming back “ and he dead ass tried to joke and say “ just post a mukbang” LIKE ????? It was so sad to watxh an now she’s right back to where she started
Next one: Shane? Perhaps?
And men wouldn’t be canceled for the same things
its super sad. when she daid she started to embrace the hate/narrative around her that she was a fuck up and everyone hated her already, damn. crazy audiences cant be held accountable for shit like this

I would love to see “an evolution of Freele the banana girl”. She has always fascinated me in terms of how she has changed. She went from her hardcore attacks of young teenagers online to after her breakup changing to a “peace and love” vibe and then changed back to her hardcore vibe.
To summarize, Tana made her career by lying, manipulating, and scamming people. That's it.

Tanas early content is the equivalent of those stories that end with "and then everyone clapped"
exactly. since highschool, I have a phrase I use whenever i need to abruptly change the subject, (ie the person my bestie and I are quietly talking about suddenly appears,) and its “and that’s why I always use a towel!” My best friend says, “and so I said, ‘if she can spread her legs that far she MUST be a ballerina’!” I feel like this sums up Tana’s stories and content.
Can we talk about how lying about being stalked isn’t funny.
Honestly tho like why would you lie about that??
This series you have going is definitely 'your thing' you cover these topics so well in-dept and if you keep being consistent with this the algorithm is gonna reward you
I feel like her whole attitude is “don’t do what I do, but I’m gonna keep doing what I do” and then she spiraled into such a mess it’s kind of crazy
Yeah and I feel like the people around her enable her. I hope she gets out of this mindset in a few years but I feel like this partying lifestyle gives her the distraction she wants.

I would be interested in that as well. I feel like she came out of no where and was suddenly best friends with Manny and all them.
It's interesting how, even when discussing female UA-camrs who have many issues, they were derailed by male UA-camrs who are way more toxic and vile who never took the same hit for their behavior.
!!!
Cathy K hes a hypocrite.
He’s a rather nasty person in his own right
It's crazy how you can actually see her lose herself and become cold and manipulative
“if anyone has lived a life you know it’s not true” lol
They haven’t had much life to reflect on bahaha but it always makes
Me laugh lol “when I was younger” from a 21 yr old lol
So trueeee😂😂😂
Also that whole Only Fans debacle with his girlfriend kinda exposed the fact that his fanbase might contain some... questionable sorts of people
Vivvy Gipe you can definitely tell who someone is by their fan base. example: pewdiepie lmaoo
THIS !!!
Yes! He’s a slime ball of a person
Who knows?
I would say manipulation since she somehow manages to cry without tears.
Amazing.
I remember being taught this lmao so cringe
Her nasal cavity has been majorly plugged for years, I'm sure snorting crap, smoking, and asthma doesn't help. I want to believe it's due to her condition but she is extremely manipulative
Melissa Elkins I’m willing the give her the benefit of the doubt that it’s her condition; my mother had something similar but her’s was able to be corrected. Just based off how she sounds (and obviously what she’s said about it), it seems like she’s telling the truth.
Omg yes Lin Manuel does this method in Hamilton during Helpless when he talks to Eliza about his mom
this video was so insightful and well researched!! thank you for making it
My my! I really love your content is kinda surprising finding you here, ventajas de ser bilingüe supongo
Yes! Exactly!
Yes this is exactly how I feel I'm 22 as well. I hope she gets out of this but I feel like she needs to move she's looking for distractions which you can find very easily in L.A.
yea, that's how i feel too! i think the fame & substance addiction have kinda stunted her maturing in a way, like she's still stuck at 20
Andrew! Congrats on grad school! What are you studying? Good luck!
i’m also 22 and this is EXACTLYYYYYY how i feel about her and her content too...
I remember her older videos...I was so excited to find her content. She’s was sooo entertaining and such a good story teller. I remember her always saying that she’s never change and that she’ll stay true. Now look what happened
It’s honestly so sad
You’re really out here giving the people what they want
I thought tana was at least 22 when the idubbbz thing happened.. jeez he really picked on a 17 year old
For the love of bonnie no... she acted like a dumb irresponsible teenager... aka she acted like a teenager
She just turned 21 lol
@@TheLalalalani yeah the idubbbz thing was years ago

I’m applying my makeup rn and it’s great
Cat W yes cat we are definitely on the same page with our interests! - I’m curious to see this deep dive - who was it about? How do I find this Liam’s channel?
“The Evolution of Elijah and Christine” since they had a ton of content, split and went in two veeeery different directions
There’s a channel called deep dive who just did a really great video about them!
This is a video about it ua-cam.com/video/dWtP_macldY/v-deo.html
"Acknowledging you messed up doesn't excuse nor fix what you've done." Something I've noticed with Tana and many other influences is that they'll do whatever it takes to get back in the audience's good graces but not to fix the damage. Apologies and "taking responsibility" aren't worth much when you don't show remorse and you don't face the consequences.
Hannah: "I've never needed to write this many notes"
Me: oh yeah... This is gonna be good 😃
Her name is Hannah!?!?! How nice to have a name in common with someone so pretty!
I usually find “drama” type channels and videos to be so obnoxious..I can’t listen to a stranger talking about another stranger like they know them in some tabloid way but your videos aren’t like that. I’m not a fan of any these UA-cam/“influencer” people and wish the influencer thing would go away but when you discuss it, you do it in a way that’s tasteful, respectful and entertaining and manage not to insult or trash the person you’re speaking about (even if they maybe deserve it) you come across as someone who doesn’t make these videos for gossip but to give constructive criticism which I think is important especially considering most of these celebs are like gods to young, impressionable fans. the way you speak on this is tasteful and I think that’s why you’re received so well...at least by me☺️☺️
I agree! I love her commentary. Every time she uploads one, I never hesitate to watch
Or the time she filmed a man who overdoesed in a bathroom, a long with his friend freaking out
yes! that was why i unsubscribed
White privilege. If she was a WOC she would have never been able to get away with this shit
I honestly like Tana’s old content, but now she’s lost her “relatable” charm and her selfishness has come to light. Tbh she’s still funny but her content has been poisoned by her personality
Acting like a 12 year old who never had to grow up and screeching like an idiot isnt funny
She really did lose that relatability us poor people could be entertained with now that she’s gotten rich it’s gone and she’s so stuck up
The power and money taken upon her head, happens a lot with famous people.
What's funny is that the N word never meant friend in the first place 😅
I’m genuinely interested in seeing a video like this about jeffree star
if you go on d’angelo wallace’s youtube he made a really good one about him

I remember watching Jeffery Star’s music videos on MySpace 😂
I fully lost all interest in Tana after her MTV show and didn’t even realize it was because it was changing my perception of her completely

Omg
We need a video about him .. what happened to him??
That was a very very deep memory that I had to unlock 😂
@@carleyweisbeck That would end up being like three hours long lmao
Omg I forgot all about him!
My rant isn’t related to Tana but I just wanted to share my thoughts :P

idubbbz was always such an incelbait alt right weirdo, it really bothers me that anyone with credibility cosigned him as valid or legitimate because he sucks, and he always has sucked. it was so odd how this adult man in his late twenties absolutely revelled in the takedown of a 17 year old girl for doing something once that HE did literally /all the time/. i really laughed when his entire fanbase cancelled him because he "allowed" his girlfriend to have an onlyfans. when you lie with dogs you get fleas

Good one.
I hate who she has turned into. Fame really does something to people, it’s truly sad. She did change - just in all the wrong ways.
I know right and it’s so sad seeing a old video of her saying she would never change and she became exactly what she described in the video
It's sad as much as it is her fault I do feel like her family had a lot to do with it especially with her partying, drinking, doing drugs.
I mean tbh she wasn’t that good in the beginning, she just hid her true colors. I watched her back in 2016 and loved her until the truth started pouring out.
Emily Allen fame makes people more of who they truly are... not sure she has ever been a person others should look up to. 😢
@@RadEdits Same, I used to go hard for Tana in the beginning of her content but after lying about the n-word, going through hoops about addressing it and owning up to using it, and the idubbbz content cop (as someone who liked his content with joji/max back in the day too) I dipped. I see Ian's logic is kind of bs now and I don't agree with it anymore, but Tana's blatant lying really hurt me at the time
“If you’ve ever lived a life then you know that’s not true...” I screamed 🤣🤣🤣
That’s the perfect response to so many lies UA-camrs tell!

i still remember her saying that because mac miller used the n word in his music she thought it was okay. mac miller NEVER used the n word in his music ¿
I’ll never get over the fact that she thought the n word meant “homie” or “friend”...are you kidding me? She knew damn well what it meant
exactly! this isn’t the worst thing she’s done but it never sat right with me, i grew up on mac miller and i remember when that video came out and she said that and i was shocked and knew it was a lie, and then for a year or two later when mac passes she was posting all about him and saying how close they were, and it hurt as a mac fan knowing that he would NEVER have spoken to her if he had known about the fact she said that about him. so she makes this big excuse about how she thought it was okay to say bc “mac did” and then does that when he passes. it makes me so angry
I hope we do PewdiePie next. He does the same stuff 😒 and a LOT of people are not ready to have that conversation..
he lost power because he was simping, not because of content cop wdym? Also he is still a great youtuber and a lot of people still like him

Although she has massively gone off the deep end now.

the pain in your eyes when you say "that's a 45 minute video.. that I watched" 😂
The thing is I just can’t picture her having a normal job for even a second, she wouldn’t last in retail or an office lol.
An evolution of Philip Defranco’s content would be very interesting. His content growth and growth as a person has been pretty public. I used to follow his channel on and off for years, and can remember the deeply misogynistic days to his more recent Dad days.
