There's a difference between giving a problematic individual attention and creating an in depth discussion on them that's thoroughly researched and easily consumable for people just now entering the space.
The alternative is that the person who acted inappropriately will be the ones to keep making content, and try to restore their narrative. I’d been fine if once a year every year we got a video reminding us all what James did until the day he leaves UA-cam
I loved Bretman Rock’s attitude about influencers collaborating during the pandemic. He said that you’re not interesting if you need other people in all your videos.
deff agree 100% & also, don’t these influencers know they can collab virtually 😭 i mean come on, nikkie has been doing it for years all the way in holland and we eat it up, don’t get why that would be such an issue for them
Jenna marbles is a perfect example of that. The money and fame gave her the means to live comfortably and work from home. While James used his followers as a dating pool.
The fact that you’re giving us whole ass documentaries in your glowmas is amazing dude omfg we adore this shit lmfao also the quality is spectacular this vidddd
I said the same thing a couple months back, Jeffree, James, whoever, Hourglass, Adept, whichever brand... isn't hurt when we stop talking about them... They're hurt when we don't stop talking about their scandals, so people cannot pretend that they don't know. Bust out your products, use them, tag Ofra and talk about why you don't purchase anymore from the brand. THAT is how you hurt a brand or influencer.
@@rosealomair2967 yeah I wanna know too. I vaguely remember some drama and also when they were new, I remember that they used to slide into peoples DMs and be a bit shady when conducting their market research
There's two things I use to judge people's character: how they treat servers/retail workers and how they handle waiting in a line. Those two things will tell you a lot about someone's level of entitlement James has failed in both areas. Fame didn't make him a monster, he was always trash.
I'm glad you're making these videos. ngl I've been irritated when people say they're tired of the "drama" and feeding into the attention seeking. When people stop talking about it, that's when people forget what happened. People wanting to move on and not mention these influencers is why they're still out here doing whatever they want. Not only do they know the public will eventually move on, they're banking on it. It's happened time and time again.
Very true. I can see wanting to move on, but it is important to remember that remembering history is what keeps us from repeating it. Documentaries like this help with that.
I love the "Evolution of " series. Major props to you girl for the work that goes into this series. The research and "receipts", just amazing. I would like to see older influencers episodes (Michelle Phan era), even if they aren't problematic.
My friend lives in the town where he grew up and not a single person likes him. From what I understand, he’s always been problematic, even growing up and it’s really disheartening because, as you said, he could have been this incredible role model. Also, as a South African immigrant, I heard about James Charles from his very insulting tweet and it really made me mad, and still does.
It’s so so true that phrases like “money changes people” is false. Money just magnifies who you already are. There’s too many people with fame and money that do good and stay level-headed haha
@@Hurricanetongue I had a “friend” like that in high school that did that to the soccer team as well. He got in a lot of trouble and almost got his ass beat.
@@leannschaffnit7376 jail charles gay best friend made a video about it after Bye Sister. He also does makeup. He reaffirmed what we all know. Jail charles was obsessed with getting with straight boys even back then. Then earlier this year a girl from his hometown made a tiktok about the same thing. It was an open secret that jail charles catfished the entire soccer team for XXX pics. A lot of those guys were straight so they didn't wanna speak up because they probably felt foolish for getting tricked by jail charles
Some people are just not made to be famous. Emma Chamberlain is good contrast as someone who also blew up massively as a teen, but has handled fame really well considering how young she is.
I really like the comparison with Emma bc she blew up around the same age and around the same time. She has also had a few scandals, and I think her mistakes really can be genuinly chalked up to being young and thrust into internet fame, which is the excuse alot of people use to defend James. When you compare their dramas they aren't even in the same playing field
Yeah and even when at some point in time, they saw each other as friends, she had the mental maturity to actually distance herself from trouble and move on from potential toxic communities
Yesssss! I love how actually private Emma keeps her private life. Also she seems very close w her parents which has gotta be immensely helpful in staying grounded.
Something I always found interesting about him was when he said Tik Tok was obviously a dating app. That immediately set off warning bells in my mind because all I could think was how could he have possibly come to that conclusion? Maybe I've seen different Tik ToKs but I've never seen anything on there that would make me go "oh this is a dating app".
Tf? Yes there are attractive ppl on tik tok but that’s every social media oh my god! It’s not even a good app for messaging 😩 man what a weird fkn comment
@@meghansullivan6812 He kinda sounds predatory {\/{]};-;{]}\/} If he wants to go on a dating app whatever but not on tiktok there are a lot of people on there including young minors (kids + young teens)
The first thing that rubbed me the wrong way about James was him trying to own the word "sister" while continuing to disrespect women. As far as I'm aware, he identifies as cisgender but likes to coopt femininity while constantly disrespecting cis women. Marlena for example. The beauty community on UA-cam and Instagram was initially founded by the work of women. I love that makeup is for everyone and people like Manny get to shine for their work. But it rubs me the wrong way to come in to a space built by women, steal the ideas of women with smaller audiences, and then try to refer to yourself in the feminine. "Sister" is not a word for cis men like James and Jeffree who don't respect women and honor the path they paved for them.
yeah it’s definitely true that the men in the makeup community seemed to have a type of privilege despite being gay. The way in which both Tati, Laura Lee, and Jaclyn Hill have constantly been mercilessly attacked is proof of this. (And while they have all doing bad things and were rightfully called out, I think Jefree has done so much worse and somehow hasn’t received the level of backlash these women have)
As a fem gay man who has survived a lot of sexual violence, sometimes this James Charles stuff is so exhausting to consume. On the one hand, the disgusting crimes he's committed are triggering to hear about. On the other hand, sometimes criticisms of him veer into people attacking his identities in ways that are also triggering, especially in the comments which I just really should stop reading. I suppose you could say I'm feeling...triggered lmao. I SO wish I didn't share identities with this person and that he wasn't viewed as a representative of those identities. Thank you Hannah for always covering this stuff in such a balanced and compassionate way, I know it can't be easy. Your work is so appreciated!!! ❤
❤❤❤ Hannah - I really appreciate how much she keeps the toxic crap out of her comment section - that can't be easy but it makes this feel like a safer place to be.
I wonder how is this untalented narcissist James Charles, anything close to a “role model” for gay men in makeup. Gay men have DOMINATED makeup for decades. My personal fave, Kevyn Aucoin, a fkin legend. That is the type of icons that we should remember..
You don't have to "share identities". You are the one defining yourself by them. You could just be you, without ridiculous labels, you independent and autonomous. But that isn't going to happen is it
The IT scandal was between James (who was like what 18-19 at the time?) and the 12 year old actors, which is so funny to me cause if they weren’t famous it’d pretty much be an argument at the kids table during family reunions
See, this is the point I've made a bunch of times. James canceling his meet-and-greet at DragCon, but still going to see the queens he wanted to see, is typical behavior for him. No matter who it hurts or disappoints, James will get what he wants. This is exactly what happened with Halo Beauty and Coachella. He wanted VIP passes, and it didn't matter that he needed to hurt his best friend/mentor to get them. James gets what James wants damn the cost.
it also doesn’t matter to him if individuals he’s berating for nudes are underage, straight, nonconsenting, or fans or his. james will get what he wants. your point stands.
@Shelby Hall you are 100% right. I know the vitamin controversy was not the most important thing that came out during Bye Sister but you’re right, it was such a shitty and transparent thing to do to a friend. I don’t believe if he was truly being attacked by fans, that he would take out his phone, text Nikita, wait for a response, wait for Nikita to text SBH, wait for a response from SBH, take the time to negotiate a contract, then wait for the passes/extra security. He lies about every stupid inconsequential thing so why wouldn’t he lie about the egregious illegal stuff? His ego is so big he takes for granted that people will believe him and take his side, it drives me crazy
I still don't understand how people online gaslight Tati and make her seem like she was super overdramatic for feeling betrayed about this. that was such a shitty thing to do to someone you supposedly look up to and consider a best friend. it was selfish and showed how entitled he is.
They Always say tho, "When you get old beauty fades then all you have in the 🔚 is Being old, Alone , n Lonely 😔😢 when you treat everyone who cared about you like Nothing , they move on n ya left wit Your Same miserable 😖 self after burning all the bridges the Dam will break n he will drown in Misery 😮😟😢‼️
@@wildflowerlove For me that isn’t the trouble. People started to dislike Tati not because she felt betrayed (as she should) but because of the Bye Sister video, where she started to say how James was behind straight guys making them uncomfortable -sorry if I sound like I minimize the situation but English isn’t my first language and right now I can’t remember how to express this correctly- even if it was true back then, she didn’t have any proof of that. People took the side of “you are saying this super illegal, inmoral and dark stuff right now after he betrayed you, but if it wasn’t because of that, you’ll have continued to cover those things”.
I have an autoimmune disease and honestly seeing everyone out partying while I was sitting at home was so infuriating. I’m sitting here constantly worried about if me going to the store for food in an N95 distanced from everyone could kill me, and there are people being super spreaders because boohoo they can’t see a friend despite having the privilege of being able to connect through the internet. If you want to ruin YOUR life and risk YOUR health I couldn’t care less, but don’t ruin ours.
But it wasn't just James it was all these new millionaires from tik tok,.which honestly is our fault for promoting them. We continue to support them and hype them up. Js
I think my biggest problem with James Charles is that he prepeuates a stereotype that gay men are predatory, mysoginitic, entitled and just gross. He's going to be who people point at when they make homophobic arguments and people won't be able to refute it because he's among the most well known gay men in the world and he's a bad person.
It is unfortunate that a high-profile gay man happens to fit a lot of negative stereotypes about gay men. Not that it's his job to represent his group, but as a member of the LGBT community myself, I cringe when people like James basically give homophobes ammunition.
I can't stand James Charles, the things he did makes me sick, flirting with children makes me sick, he makes me sick. He and Shane Dawson can just go away for good, it's influencers like them are the reason why I more support the smaller channels nowadays.
To add to the list of all the bigotry James Charles shows-he’s also ableist, he’s tweeted about how annoying it is to be behind a wheelchair user But also Rikki Poytner (a Deaf UA-camr) literally walked him through how to properly caption his videos (for FREE when he was making so much money) and at that point he still didn’t caption, she ended up invoicing him for her time and he wouldn’t pay it. Then when he DID announce he was appropriately captioning his videos he captioned like 2 videos & then quit.
I got like 2 subscribers and put captions on videos where I talk coz Idk If they’re HoH. That’s very ableist imo to leave out something so simple. Especially if he has an editor coz they could do that for him. Either way, it can be tedious, but not hard to do at all.
He wasn’t being cancelled for the IT thing, he was being dragged for hating on something and then capitalising on it. Which is a totally fair point for the literal kids of IT to point it.
@@lamia6403 yeah well i’m not going to defend james but the situation was overall petty. people are allowed to not like a movie and say they don’t the movie.
i think something not a lot of people know about is how james acted with tommyinnit (a popular minecraft youtuber/twitch streamer). I believe it was during the main scandal from 2021 involving james texting minors. Tommy, who during that time had just turned 17, mentioned on stream that james called him beautiful while they were on a call alone together. Tommy wasn't aware of any of the stuff that was happening with james, but wilbur (another minecraft youtuber, who's sort of almost a bigger brother to tommy) knew and was very concerned. I just think it's notable because as all of these allegations were happening, james was STILL continuing to talk with minors. Even though this wasn't particularly serious, it still just shows a pattern of behavior (also a lot of people who aren't really in the gaming side of twitch/youtube know about it)
Reminds of the stream Tommy did with Logan Paul. Wilbur was there too and a lot of people felt uncomfortable watching it. Wilbur kept on saying that he didn't like Logan also there was a podcast where Logan and others were questioning Tommy. It too made fans uncomfortable. (😑 You might already know). Hmmm... Seems like a pattern
@@october3706 i think the logan thing was slightly less concerning seeing as (at least to my knowledge) there's nothing with him and teenagers that's weird. It was uncomfortable cuz I dont like logan and i think he didn't really get tommy's brand of humor, not because he seemed predatory
As Robert Caro said “Power doesn’t always corrupt… power always reveals.” James may have been able to grow into a better person if he hadn’t become famous as a young person. However, as it stands, hi, becoming famous only revealed the kind of person he already was.
That’s another problem. When people become very successful at a young age, they often have no motivation to listen to the people trying to guide them. Demi Lovato said not long ago that being the main source of income for the family completely upended the dynamic and their parents actually lost some of their authority over them because of it
I also think fame, sort of like trauma, can cause arrested development if it happens young enough. The fame, especially for 'influencers', comes as a direct result of themselves, and I can see how that would discourage people from growing bc it would inherently mean changing, which is a risk when you are your brand.
@@Listening_Books12345 yes I definitely agree with that take. I believe I heard a theory that people who become famous young can become basically stuck at the age when they became famous. As it stands, adults do pretty poorly becoming famous, much less young people who are not nearly as fully formed in their identity. I have no doubt the fact that James became famous as a teen also affected his self perception and growth as a person
They weren’t shaming him for not liking the movie, they were shaming him for tweeting during the movie inside the theatre. It’s not only disrespectful to use your phone in the theatre during the screening to the folks who worked on the film but also to everyone around you. That’s why the actors were mad.
Yup, and it just reinforces Hannah's point that James thinks he is so above everyone else that he is allowed to live-tweet in a movie theater and no one should call him out on it.
And if they were shaming him for not liking the movie, it was basically like "how can you say you don't like a movie that you're not even watching bc you're on your phone?"
James makes me feel icky for a lot of reasons but the craziest thing to me is that he *STILL* has a platform after being outed as a predator??? How is he not being questioned by police rn
That along with the level of ego and entitlement from james is enough for me hate the bitch. Ive never such entitlement to think you deserve speical treatment and being up there with A-listers who rightfully dont want anything to do with you and you calling them rude for not getting things your way. and to gatekeep and attack people minding their own business is so uncalled for . Also The child predator stuff is so horrifically disgusting and I do hope james is in jail because that shits so not funny
I agree. so many people said that Tati and JS tried to ruin his career and they bullied him and James was a victim. But now we see he really is a predator and nothing has really changed for him on his channel. He still gets millions of views, it’s crazy.
I highly doubt James will ever share his “receipts” because that’s evidence of a crime…I’m sure his legal council stopped him otherwise he would have posted them again further proving he had extremely inappropriate and illegal interactions with underage children
omg imagine how tired we are of these “legal council” rumors y’all were saying the same stuff during bye sister era that they had some litigation round table to drop the situation when nothing ever happened 😂 some 16 years old baited him for a viral tiktok yea boo hoo BORINGG
I think it’s even simpler than this. James hasn’t shown any receipts because he has none that would prove his innocence, because he’s not innocent. If James had anything to prove he was innocent he would have shown it in a heartbeat
@@wateryoutalkingabout6113 😑 You can't fake claim someone without evidence 🚩 Also rewatch the video because clearly there is proof in it that James has made s+xual comments and he called tiktok a dating app (even tho MINORS are on tiktok).
The actors got mad at him for showing and tweeting during his screening, ruining shit for potential moviegoers. They work hard, several months at a time, on sets for everything they do. To have done all of this, your heart and passion, only to have Chuck-Hiram Backbend ruin it is a damn good reason to lash out at him for his tweets.
Personally i dont agree but i can get why with calling him out given how as a public figure youre gonna have to deal with people even celebrities not liking your work it is a hard thing to deal with But honestly tho, at the same time James should have kept his mouth shut and not egg on the situation a month later
Also at the time the cast were all between 12-14, one was 15 but idk if she was on twitter at the time. James was a legal adult. I mean yeah it's pretty dumb to get worked up over not liking a movie, but...18 should be mature enough to not egg on some kids on twitter
Yes, he was thriving in beauty but a lot of that has to do with him being an acceptable (thin) white male gay. The beauty community is soooo diverse, with more talented Black and non-Black POC straight and queer artists having to work 10 times as hard for a sliver of the visibility JC got without exceptional talent.
“He could have been a trailblazer!” But…why? As this vid unpacks, he wasn’t exceptionally talented (compared to pro or viral MUAs in general), he needs other collaborators to thrive. Oh and he’s messy and lies and is, at best, a predator. But he coulda been a trailblazer!😒All he did was show up in the space with the right…..aesthetic.
i distinctly remember when james made a comment in a video that was something along the lines of “i’m not fully gay because i’m also attracted to trans men” which was just incredibly transphobic holy shit. and the worst part was that when he (poorly) apologised for it on twitter, his fans were saying he didn’t do anything wrong and didn’t need to apologise :/ james is already bad enough without his fans constantly enabling his behaviour and telling him what he wants to hear.
yeah his fans are mostly children so they probably don’t know why is so wrong, which is what makes it easy for him to get away with so awful behaviors.
Holy SHIT what a horrible thing for him to say???!! Like even if he’s ‘joking’ his fan base doesn’t know any better and might take him at his word and believe trans men aren’t real men aaaaAAAAHHHHH fuck James
yeah but ignorance isn't equivalent to phobia. i feel it's more likely he said that because he's a total moron, not because he actively hates trans people.
I hadn't heard about that, makes me dislike him even more. Even thought it was probably ignorance rather than hatred for trans people as someone with *such* a huge platform he shouldn't be saying shit like that.
That sounds delightful. I’m doing the Australian version; in the pool with a beer because it’s 35 degrees (that’s 95 degrees Fahrenheit for you barbarians still using that antiquated unit ☠️😋🍻)
I honestly really appreciate that you choose nice photos/photos they themselves have used of the people you talk about for your thumbnails. So many people choose to take a screenshot mid-crying or mid-talking where people look weird to humiliate them (and get clicks of course)
I just know you're not sleeping because I know these videos take a lot of time to edit and put together so thank you. Watching your videos feels like I'm watching documentary about pop culture moments that really defined the 2010s decade and even 2020s
I felt horrific asking a woman to cut her in line at kohls because I needed a dress for a work event in less than an hour that I was already running late for when my niece accidentally spilled soda on mine. I could never imagine asking to cut a HUGE line at a major event 😂
Also I would consider that extenuating circumstances like I’ve offered people to cut me when stuff like that is happening but I’ll call people out for just jumping for no reason in a HUGE line lol
Reminded me of these two older women that cut a huge line for free potatoes and I was the only one to say anything but the people running it didn't care. Grrrr I hate line cutters.

I remember years ago when James first got the CoverGirl deal, there was this guy in my community college intro to philosophy class who was OBSESSED with talking about how much he hated James Charles. Never did say what he didn't like about him specifically, but something about James just wasn't right. Anyway, Tristan, if you're still out there: you were right, buddy
@@Chloe-cs2nc honestly I think he was jealous. he was also a gay man who did makeup and didn't get any recognition for it. but yeah, maybe also some internalized homophobia 🤷♀️
The part of this story that validates his egotism the most? He's playing socialite during a pandemic, but the folks on the front line can't see their own children. The people who are literally fighting an epic battle aren't allowed to see their own families, but this kid gets to run amok for views. Let that sink in.
Girl, I am a 41 yr old woman and I rarely know who these people are more than peripherally and normally probably wouldn't care about their "evolution," but your storytelling and your research and pacing and the way you speak is so interesting and engaging that I am always drawn in and actively listening the entire time. You have such a talent for it, I often end up wondering whether 60 Minutes, Dateline, TLC, The History Channel, etc. have ever tried to recruit you!
Holy Waa, Hannah! That was one doozy of an "Evolution of ..."! I can see why you were exhausted. What a ton of effort went into this uber informative video. Your analysis was spot on! I enjoyed every minute.
Lol James Charles trying to rip off UNHhhh is so funny. To quote Trixie and Kayta"it's our show and not yours" Also Hannah not clocking that it's UNHhhh is also funny because I feel like she would love some of Trixie's makeup
I'm only up to adroll so far, but re: giving these people attention by making videos like this, I honestly think these can be really helpful resources when you're faced with questions like, "Oh, why does everyone hate this person? What did they do?" and there's way too much to cover conversationally, and you know you might forget stuff or get your timelines muddled up. With content like this, you can just direct them to the video and say, "Here's everything you need to know about this person."
My teenage daughter watched James before any scandals. I watched with her. He was troublesome then. The sexual aggression was obvious in those videos. He played it like a joke, but it made me uncomfortable. Other creators in his videos often looked uncomfortable too. She started watching Tati too. I wasn't surprised when "Bye Sister" came out. He just didn't respect boundaries or maybe notice them.
One of his more recent scandals that really rubbed me the wrong way was his responses to Alicia Keyes partnering with Elf for skincare and the snafu with the packaging for Lauren Conrad’s new brand and him having this entitlement of being able to say who is or isn’t allowed to come into the beauty space. Plus referring to Marlena Stell as “that woman”, there is a streak of misogyny in him that is so off-putting. This video reminded me of why I didn’t like him as a creator, not that I ever forgot. 😤
I think the internet can forgive lots of things like racism, sexism, etc. But even the biggest piece of shit knows that messing with kids is unforgivable, and James and Shane are an example. Sadly there are people who still suport them :(
That he still has a huge following is depressing. That so many give him a pass is depressing. That YT only cares about the 💸💰💸 is depressing. What's not depressing is Glowmas!!! Thank You!!! Take care and have fun!!! 🎄☃️🎄 😷😎😷
Agree 100%! I hope he’s charged with the crimes that he clearly committed. Maybe then, he will lose his platform and his means of victimizing his young fans.
"if you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals" ~Sirius Black. James Charles has a history of putting smaller creators on blast for even the smallest things
I'm always shocked at the quality of your videos during Glowmas. Like, seriously. Over an hour long, during an incredibly busy month for you? IDK how you do it.
I also remember from when he did the IT movie tutorial he used music from a small creator and refused to credit them when it was their own work and the artist had tried multiple times to reach out to James, but I can’t quite remember what happened in the end of that? And it was along the time he was calling people out for not giving credit to smaller creators and people were upset at the hypocrisy.
Anyone else been waiting for this since “the evolution of....” series started ?!?! Hannah, do a Niagara Falls meet and greet 😅 easy for us Canadians lololol
18:45 if i had a nickel for every time a beauty influencer posted a controversial tweet before getting on a plane for 10+ hours, i would have two nickels. which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it happened twice.
I cannot believe your work ethic! These documentary style deep dives are incredible. I’m glad that we are still talking about everything he has done and making sure it stays in the forefront of peoples minds. It’s easy to forget when someone is continuously pushed on you as if nothing happened.
I think it's fair to say that James was, and still is, an incredibly entitled person. It doesn't sound like he is in touch with reality, which I partially attribute to how he was parented. He reminds me of the kids from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
I love these “evolution of” videos! They’re so entertaining and well put together; they also make me nostalgic for 2015-2018 when I was really into beauty UA-cam 😂. Would love to see you do one on grav3yardgirl if you ever need a suggestion!
What I love about Nikkie and Jackie is that they have both always been pretty unproblematic in terms of trying to stay out of this type of drama but still remaining consistent with beauty uploads. When tarte released shape tape foundation back in 2018 with a trash shade range Nikkie deleted her review to avoid the drama and after J* attacked her for doing so (which was so ironic btw) she paid him dust. She never acknowledged any of this and does a pretty good job of using these people like James for her videos while distancing herself from their scandals. And now i think she doesn’t talk to either J* or James. And Jackie, ugh a true queen. She really has been on top of the beauty game for years, being her flowers now!
i agree with you about how important it is that we have videos out there where all the information you need on certain creators is in it. think about how unchecked the internet was before commentary channels became more mainstream on youtube. because there were not enough videos discussing all of the problematic behavior people displayed, it opened the doors for certain youtubers to gain bigger and new people discovering the content have no idea about how messed up the person can be.
Girl I’m honestly obsessed with this background! Something about the dark wall color with the painting hanging plus your fit...idk it all goes hard and I’m livingggg for it. 😜❤️
as someone who lives in south africa... i can't believe that people actually have such really negative stereotypes about the country. we might not have the latest and the greatest of everything ever like americans do, but we are by no means a disease ridden country stuck in ages past. yikes.
Hannah, you post these at the perfect time. I have a child who still gets up at night, so I pop in my Bluetooth headphones and listen while I care for him. Your videos are always interesting and it makes it easier to stay awake when I have to get up. Thank you ❤️

the problem with him was that after the 2019 drama he started using that as a cover to all his dirty past and for almost 2 years he kept doing nasty things and then boom he got exposed n got cancelled! I mean the fact that he was mad at Shane n Jeffree for doing that to him is funny considering it only made his ego huge
I appreciate these videos. Esp since I have an almost 9 year old, who will likely use YT within the next 4 years (with supervision) & these reminders for new kids coming on the platform & finding who they want to follow (& their parents) need to know these things.
I know this is a serious video, but when Hannah said, “Hit me with a truck!” and “Step on me!” I scream laughed. Amazing as always, thank you for your hard work. ❤️
You hit the nail on the head, excellent deep dive. I really hope he continues to lose everything and is held legally accountable for his crimes. I can't believe he said that there were "no victims of James Charles" 😡
Adding a comment for the algorithm. Also I appreciate your consistent return to the "this dude's entitlement led him to do shitty things and he entirely deserves his fall from grace" theme.
Loved this video!! I remember watching James’ “Ranking my scandals” video when it came out, and just thinking of how off-base it was to rank your worst actions, when it’s about the people he hurt, not him. While he did seem apologetic for some things, he still refused to acknowledge the hurt he caused in other scandals, like the mugshot trend. He just refused to acknowledge his privilege in that situation and moved on. It made me realize how truly stubborn he was, and how every admission of guilt was as a result of a battle from the internet and likely from his team
ever since you mentioned this video idea in one of your previous ones I've been dying to see this!!! always love your makeup vids but these long form commentaries are what I live for ❤️
Been bingeing your “evolution of” videos this weekend. Love! Love the informed commentary, the research and I could listen to you talk for hours. I’d love to see your take on Trisha Paytas’ evolution
Nikkie!!! Please!!!! I feel like I don’t know anything about her anymore it’s been a few moons since her power of makeup and then I fell of the bandwagon. That would be awesome!!
THIS video is exactly what I needed to keep me entertained while puttering around my house, getting things ready for the holidays …GREAT VIDEO! THANK YOU HANNAH🎄 and Merry Glowmas 🎄
I find these types of videos helpful. Even though I was watching beauty UA-cam at the time, I've forgot a lot of the scandals and such. I need to watch videos on other creators like Shawn Dawson and Trisha to refresh my memory on all the horrible things they've done as well.
Whenever I think about people like James Charles, the same quote just rings through my head: “Absolute power doesn't corrupt, but rather, reveals.” I can't remember who said it, but it feels rather pertinent in this situation

Some people are just not made to be famous. Emma Chamberlain is good contrast as someone who also blew up massively as a teen, but has handled fame really well considering how young she is.
I really like the comparison with Emma bc she blew up around the same age and around the same time.
I hope you are in therapy or doing some healing for the trauma you've been through...I hope you're doing well 💙
Completely agree. Some of the "criticism" borders on homophobia

@@wildflowerlove For me that isn’t the trouble.
I was about to say the same as the comment above. U represent yourself it’s that simple James doesn’t speak for anyone but himself
I can't stand James Charles, the things he did makes me sick, flirting with children makes me sick, he makes me sick. He and Shane Dawson can just go away for good, it's influencers like them are the reason why I more support the smaller channels nowadays.

i think something not a lot of people know about is how james acted with tommyinnit (a popular minecraft youtuber/twitch streamer). Even though this wasn't particularly serious, it still just shows a pattern of behavior (also a lot of people who aren't really in the gaming side of twitch/youtube know about it)
I didn't know about that!

As Robert Caro said “Power doesn’t always corrupt… power always reveals.”
James may have been able to grow into a better person if he hadn’t become famous as a young person. However, as it stands, hi, becoming famous only revealed the kind of person he already was.
I love this quote so much!!

To have done all of this, your heart and passion, only to have Chuck-Hiram Backbend ruin it is a damn good reason to lash out at him for his tweets.
Personally i dont agree but i can get why with calling him out given how as a public figure youre gonna have to deal with people even celebrities not liking your work it is a hard thing to deal with
But honestly tho, at the same time James should have kept his mouth shut and not egg on the situation a month later
Also at the time the cast were all between 12-14, one was 15 but idk if she was on twitter at the time. James was a legal adult. I mean yeah it's pretty dumb to get worked up over not liking a movie, but...18 should be mature enough to not egg on some kids on twitter

Maybe then, he will lose his platform and his means of victimizing his young fans.
what did you just say about my queen? 😡
@@wateryoutalkingabout6113 James needs to be charged and to be in jail for Sexting minors. Period
@@wateryoutalkingabout6113 get a better ‘queen’, your boy is a hugely problematic pr*dator.
His channel isn't monetized so YT isn't making any money from him. Now if they would also demonetize Shane's channel, that would be great.
"if you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals" ~Sirius Black. James Charles has a history of putting smaller creators on blast for even the smallest things
Exactly the quote I thought of!
I'm always shocked at the quality of your videos during Glowmas. Like, seriously. Over an hour long, during an incredibly busy month for you? IDK how you do it.
Just about to deep clean my apartment and wanted something to listen to, over an hour long video from you is perfect 🙂✨
I loved this. James makes me feel so polarized. So interested and so uncomfortable at the same time. Y'know?
It’s always interesting to watch a fall from grace story!
Anyone else been waiting for this since “the evolution of....” series started ?!?! Hannah, do a Niagara Falls meet and greet 😅 easy for us Canadians lololol
let‘s meet at Rainbow Bridge 🖤💚🍋🐑😇
Lets meet at the vending machines
The level of excitement I feel when seeing an hour long Smokey Glow upload is through the roof! You're killing it this year, Hannah! 💛
I found your channel a few days ago through Swoop, and I can’t believe how amazing your videos are! I’ve watched so many consecutively already!
Welcome! 🙂✌🏻
Hannah would make an excellent student at Petty University!
@Madeline Nicholson Another fabulous UA-cam channel. She does intense documentaries! Also founder of Petty University.
18:45 if i had a nickel for every time a beauty influencer posted a controversial tweet before getting on a plane for 10+ hours, i would have two nickels. which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it happened twice.
Ooo who was the other one?
"I'm James Charles"
"And I'm Latrice Royale, now get in line"
james' constant collabs remind me of what bretman rock said when he was like if you need costars you're not a star...just something to think about
I cannot believe your work ethic!
I'd love to see an evolution of
SimplyNailogical
Safiya Nygaard
Nikkie Tutorials
Jackie Aina
I love your in-depth videos about other creators 💜💜💜
She really has been on top of the beauty game for years, being her flowers now!
the way hannah has been my favourite go to youtuber for the past two years💗 honestly just love her content so much xx
Why did my half asleep lizard brain read this as "The Evolution of Jesus Christ" 😭💀
i agree with you about how important it is that we have videos out there where all the information you need on certain creators is in it. think about how unchecked the internet was before commentary channels became more mainstream on youtube. because there were not enough videos discussing all of the problematic behavior people displayed, it opened the doors for certain youtubers to gain bigger and new people discovering the content have no idea about how messed up the person can be.
Hannah’s outfit is giving pop star and her background is giving Picasso. A perfect combination. I loved this video Hannah!
Not even remotely reminiscent of Picasso, what
Girl I’m honestly obsessed with this background! Something about the dark wall color with the painting hanging plus your fit...idk it all goes hard and I’m livingggg for it. 😜❤️
as someone who lives in south africa... i can't believe that people actually have such really negative stereotypes about the country. we might not have the latest and the greatest of everything ever like americans do, but we are by no means a disease ridden country stuck in ages past. yikes.
Honestly Vlogmas has been largely underwhelming this year, except for your channel you're really bringing the heat girl
Agreed-Hannah’s is the only one I’ve watched every single one
Hannah, you post these at the perfect time. I have a child who still gets up at night, so I pop in my Bluetooth headphones and listen while I care for him. Your videos are always interesting and it makes it easier to stay awake when I have to get up. Thank you ❤️
Yessss queen. I have loved Vlogmas(Glowmas) this year bc you are incredible with your videos. They are amazing and so well done and such hard work clearly goes into them 👏🏽🙌🏽👍🏽🤩 love you lady keep up the great work ☺️😁
the problem with him was that after the 2019 drama he started using that as a cover to all his dirty past and for almost 2 years he kept doing nasty things and then boom he got exposed n got cancelled! I mean the fact that he was mad at Shane n Jeffree for doing that to him is funny considering it only made his ego huge
I know this is gonna be a awesome one! Thank u for your efforts in glowmas this year Hannah, sending so much love this holiday season 🥰
I appreciate these videos. Esp since I have an almost 9 year old, who will likely use YT within the next 4 years (with supervision) & these reminders for new kids coming on the platform & finding who they want to follow (& their parents) need to know these things.
I saw the video in my subscription box and I literally gasped. Thank you for all of your hard work Hannah! We see it and appreciate it!!!!🥺👉🏻👈🏻
Motivating Hannah for all the videos this month in Kris Jenner's voice: 'you're doing great sweetie'
I know this is a serious video, but when Hannah said, “Hit me with a truck!” and “Step on me!” I scream laughed. Amazing as always, thank you for your hard work. ❤️
There's nothing i love more than Hannah deep diving into messy youtubers 😊 Just poured a glass of wine 💅
Would love to see an evolution of Tati (including her return to the internet and what happened with halo/Tati beauty)
she actually already has an evolution of tati! it's v interesting, I recommend
This is what happens when the wrong person becomes famous, that sums it all up for me. Great video Hannah 💜
An hourlong video by Smokey Glow is literally what I needed
Loved this video!! I remember watching James’ “Ranking my scandals” video when it came out, and just thinking of how off-base it was to rank your worst actions, when it’s about the people he hurt, not him. While he did seem apologetic for some things, he still refused to acknowledge the hurt he caused in other scandals, like the mugshot trend. He just refused to acknowledge his privilege in that situation and moved on. It made me realize how truly stubborn he was, and how every admission of guilt was as a result of a battle from the internet and likely from his team
omg thank you Hannah! Incredible work as always. I am totally going to send this to my mom (who just discovered UA-cam and all its scandals)
I showered, cooked and ate my Ramen, did the dishes all while watching this. thank you!!!
Please do a video about Olivia jade’s comeback! Her transition back into the limelight is so interesting
ever since you mentioned this video idea in one of your previous ones I've been dying to see this!!! always love your makeup vids but these long form commentaries are what I live for ❤️
OMFG! The long promised evolution of James Charles! Should be good and probably infuriating. 😬
Been bingeing your “evolution of” videos this weekend. Love! Love the informed commentary, the research and I could listen to you talk for hours. I’d love to see your take on Trisha Paytas’ evolution
An hour?? Yesss I’m here for it 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Ps can you do an evolution of nikkietutorials next or the ace family (that would definitely be interesting 👀)
Nikkie!!!
Aaah I was literally just rewatching your evolution of videos yesterday and thought about how you should make one about James, can’t wait to watch!!
Whenever I think about people like James Charles, the same quote just rings through my head: “Absolute power doesn't corrupt, but rather, reveals.” I can't remember who said it, but it feels rather pertinent in this situation
I think you’re combining two quotes!!!
1) “absolute power corrupts absolutely” -Lord Acton
2) “power doesn’t corrupt, it reveals” -Robert Caro
!!!
@@Miserablecollegekid oh, yes, thank you! 😂 perhaps that’s why I couldn’t remember who said it
Just wanted to let you know that I started the beginning of the month doing a couch to 5k thing on the treadmill and I always watch your videos while running, and these videos that are 30-60mins I just keep on running because you make videos so entertaining. So I just ran 5 miles today because of you 🤩
That's amazing congrats!
