She honestly had one of the weirdest internet careers because she’s been in so many scandals yet still had fans but was kinda irrelevant but yet she was so popular. It was kinda like she was on her own side of the internet

I kind of believe that that happens with youtubers with lots of subscribers. If you build a big audience for a while and after establishing them you start to get in scandal after scandal, your career won't be shattered, because you build a huge audience of loyal fans even tho you're not really a trending topic anymore.
I think that we can put Trisha Paytas and Jeremiah Starfish as examples. Problematic people with a huge and loyal audience.

I feel like every UA-camr has the die-hard stans that would literally try to make excuses for them even if they murdered someone for content. Look at Jeffree Star and Shane Dawson. And if you remember DaddyO5 who actually abused his children for content to the point where CPS removed them from his home, well he STILL had people defending him even after the fact and i think he just moved his fanbase to twitch.

I also don't think it would be a problem if she was socially or self aware enough to realise what she did was wrong and I think the majority of critisism of her is more do (other than the Jessie smiles situation) with her lack self awareness rather than the initial situation itself.

I have no name Nah, I think the problem is most people on the internet lack vital, and very basic, critical thinking skills. Like the fact that the internet functions on the presumption of being guilty until proven innocent, and believing what other people have to say about certain people rather than the source itself. The fact that Gabbie has continuously explained how erroneous certain accusations are, while other times have taken accountability for everything else, yet people like you still can’t seem to understand that you don’t actually know someone’s character from what you see online and you don’t actually know all, if any, of the facts, really exemplifies this. Maybe take a look at your own self awareness.

I also really liked Drew Gooden's review of her poetry book. I have never really been interested in Gabbie, so I just knew people found it terrible without bothering to read it myself. Drew is the first person I have ever heard say something positive about it. Not that he found it a good book, but he does say that it isn't as bad as people make it out to be, that it's mostly very rushed and that she has potential to write something good, if only she'd actually try. Very refreshing to see someone take a stance more nuanced than "book bad, Gabbie suck", even if it still isn't overtly positive.

Gabbie definitely isn’t a bad singer she just isn’t a great singer either. In my opinion her music is pretty good for “UA-cam music” but when compared to “real” singers she isn’t anything special. This combined with her inability to take criticism is what keeps her from becoming an artist outside of the UA-cam space.

I think both of them have nice voices- if I heard them singing while we were in the car, I would be genuinely impressed and compliment them. That doesn't mean they should jump into music careers. I think either of them have potential with vocal training to become talented, certainly more than me, but they aren't there yet.

Having an entirely self funded music career is like me creating a modelling agency and signing myself up even though I'm 5'3. Rachel Oates’ latest video on Gabbie’s poetry made a really good point about that: it’s not art, it’s just merch. All these stans are making the excuse of “oh she only wrote the books for her fans and if you were a true fan you’d get her messages and hints and blah blah blah” and it’s just like, okay, if it’s only meant for fans of her it’s just merch. She should have just released it on her own personal website or through Etsy if it wasn’t meant for the greater public. But because she wanted the spot on the New York Times bestsellers list (which she was VERY vocal about in videos leading up to the release, very much saying the quiet part out loud) that’s why it got a mass release.

Watching this in the middle of the Great Gabbie Meltdown of 2021 is very interesting, the points about apologies and not taking criticisms especially. Gabbie sure seems to view an apology as a magic reset button that absolves her of all responsibility for her actions and any damage she may have done to her personal and/or professional relationships through them. An apology doesn't mean that other people are gonna like, like you again after the things you've said to them. It doesn't automatically invalidate criticism. I was never a stan of GH, but I did enjoy her storytimes. I would say I was a casual fan. The pivotal moment that turned me away from her was the Guy Tang situation, where she did a video of going to him for a hair cut and color. She did him so dirty by clickbaiting her video "Hair Cut Disaster!" with a thumbnail of a hood over her head. She had told Guy to his face that she liked the cut and color and that he did a good job. Then she got home and made a video that made him look bad. I couldn't believe it. Then when she started getting heat for it I thought, surely she'll change the title or thumbnail, or tell us he was in on it, or SOMETHING. Nope. Nothing. She didn't seem to give a shi*t that she did that to him. That was the first time I saw that sort of character pop through and it really soured me towards her. I also disliked that she blamed her reaction to his haircut on her anxiety. I can't stand it when people do that. Like, sure, trusting someone with your hair can be challenging for someone with anxiety. But anxiety didn't cause you to clickbait that Guy Tang's professional skills are lacking to the entire internet. And then act like it's not big deal. Nope, miss me with that sh*t.

If she’d just told him on the spot she didn’t like it, after telling him to just surprise her, it would have been so much better. Or even just called him the next day to ask him to fix it. But she turned it into a story time and just completely threw him under the bus. It just showed me who she was as a person. Bad look.

It could be that, it could also be voice lessons are very expensive and depending how often she was going, it could really dig into her budget for other things. It could also be, while he helped, maybe they weren’t clicking as much as they needed to progress further in her vocal training.

She thinks she’s getting too good for UA-cam and that she should be seen as this serious writer and musician, but she doesn’t have a thick enough skin to put herself out there. @@DarkAngel71180 The reason why we are taught not to believe everything we see on social media is because influencers/UA-camrs are exposing a very small part of their lives, so it is easy to put on your best self for that short amount of time and give people the impression that you are a perfect little snowflake of love and kindness. And yet, even though we see "short, edited snippets of her life" (during which she should be putting on her best self, like everyone would), Gabbie still manages to come off as self-centered, self-serving and manipulative. Even on those few minutes of exposure, that she knows people are gonna judge her by so one can only assume she is being careful, she is still exhibiting horrible character traits. I think it is safe to assume, she is actually being worse behind the scenes. Plus, some things aren't just "biased UA-cam drama". Being friendly toward your former friend's rapist and then trying to cover it up by saying there is no proof of you doing it, isn't just drama. It is absolutely disgusting behavior and a huge insight as to who Gabbie really is.

My first impression was how incredibly unprofessional it was to DM a fan like that, and how she broke the very thin line between influencer and fan dynamics. Influencers/UA-camrs make their money off of building a pseudo relationship with their fans. Their fans trust them, believe them, and know a lot more details about their life than a typical celebrity. It’s a friendship, but there’s also a thin line and interesting power dynamic. Your viewers are NOT your friends and Gabbie took advantage of that with the girl she was messaging

Honestly, I feel really sorry for Gabbie. Ofc not excusing everything she's done, bc I don't think she's anywhere near innocent. But I think she has some genuine problems that she needs to address with some intensive therapy before she can have a stable online presence. Every time she has another controversy, it apparent how she hasn't worked out these issues. Her emotional outbursts, breakdowns, manipulative behavior, gaslighting people, lying, rollercoaster-ing between absolutely loving people and hating people, being unable to take criticism, always making herself out to be the victim, etc. Whatever the underlying cause is, I hope she gets the support and skills she needs to live a happy, healthy, fulfilling life.

The discussion would probably have been more about how even if someone is harassing you you can’t just respond with a disproportionate amount of force. Hell Gabbie could well have said she didn’t realize how much she was bothering him and the discussion might have been about how not everyone can pick up on social cues and how communicating effectively to someone that they are bothering you is the way to deal with things. Because Ricegum was genuinely wrong. Unfortunately Gabbie ended up shooting herself in the foot in the way she went about telling the internet about the situation. And I think because there was very little time in between what happened and when she made the video on it it makes sense that being shaky and mixing things a up a bit on the words.
