    I have a PC with basically the same components as you, and NMS runs at a super stable 72 fps, apart from the usual stutter when leaving atmosphere. With a mix of details between standard and enhanced except textures on high, GTAO on off (in VR it doesn't make much difference and is very heavy) DLSS on quality. Obviously VD set to godlike. I haven't tried the PSVR2 version yet, but I don't think it can be that sharp even with foveated rendering, but even if it were, a constant 72 fps is certainly better than 60 reprojected. Although I must say that VD's spacewarp has improved a lot (I'm seeing it in Microsoft Flight Simulator)

      @ImmersedRobot  6 місяців тому +2

      Yes, I do tend to prefer native framerates where possible in almost every VR title I play as well. There did seem to be slightly better consistency for my at those 60 reprojected to 120 this last time I went in however, and I was suprised by how good the reprojection systems are getting now in VD and Air Link, which also contributed to me talking about it in this video.

    Quest 3 compression artifacts ruin NMS for me. The night sky does not look good on Q3. I have ordered a Bigscreen Beyond because I need OLED on PC. After playing PSVR 2 I know OLED is an absolute must for VR.

    • @ImmersedRobot
      @ImmersedRobot  6 місяців тому +2

      The Bigscreen Beyond sounds like a great solution. I also used to have a major problem with compression artifacts in the Quest 3, but I do find quite rapid improvements in that area recently - especially with Virtual Desktop. I used the HEVC 10-bit codec on my system with a locked 200Mbps bitrate which generally looks fantastic. I certainly won't say it's perfect, but things are getting better all the time. If I had a 4000 series Nvidia card then the AV1 codec might improve things further.
      Regardless of all of this however, if you really crave that OLED display, then the Bigscreen seems like the best overall option right now. I'll be interested to try the PSVR2 on my PC when that support becomes available also.

    fortunately for me i have never noticed much reprojection on pc, but i notice it frequently on psvr2. it was a shock to see it so much since i wasn't used to noticing it. I remember thinking ah this is what they're always talking about on recentered. I've also never got sick on pc or quest, but i have felt a little nauseous several times in hubris on psvr2.

    • @ImmersedRobot
      @ImmersedRobot  6 місяців тому +1

      I'm sort of shocked at how good the reprojection on PC is now (on both Oculus ASW, and Virtual Desktop SSW). To me, it's very close to not even worrying too much about anymore - at least in certain games. The PSVR2 imlementation is nowhere near up to standard in 2024 imo.

    Have you tried setting the process priority to High for NMS in the Windows task manager? I find this helps with consistency in PCVR games

    • @ImmersedRobot
      @ImmersedRobot  6 місяців тому +3

      I haven't, and generally don't have an issue in most games. NMS is definitely an outlier in that respect. But I'll certainly give that a try! Thanks.

    ohh Amstrad CPC 464, that was my 1st computer. Havn't seen one in a long time. Nice Vid, how do you feel about the negativity towards PSVR2 and the IGN article. I think no man sky is awesome on PSVR2 , no Faff, i've always had frame drops on PCVR originally with RTX2080, then RTX4070.

    • @ImmersedRobot
      @ImmersedRobot  6 місяців тому +1

      I love my PSVR2, but honestly I think at least part of the mainstream negativity and perception of PSVR2 has been bought about by Sony's own treatment of the device. I don't really care what IGN think about the PSVR2, but I think it does reflect how the general mainstream gaming audience sees the device if they're not part of the VR bubble.
      My personal take is that I think the leadership at Sony who approved the R&D of a gen-2 PSVR are no longer in control of that division, and didn't have any control in the release or marketing of the device. Jim Ryan has previously alluded to some kind of apathy towards VR in general so I don't think he assigned much of a marketing budget to the system. Now he's left, it remains to be seen if the new leadership can salvage anything from the device now, or if it's too late.
      If we get another four AAA games in year two of PSVR2, like year one, then that will certainly silence all the criticism as far as I'm concerned. It's just I don't honestly see that happening unfortunately. The device is too expensive for a console peripheral imo - no matter how high quality certain aspects of the headset are. This means the playbase is too small to justify the type of AAA content many thought would be arriving in spades with PSVR2.
      There isn't a shortage of games on PSVR2, or even a shortage of good games. But there is a shortage of the right type of games - at least as far as the mainstream gaming community is concerned.
      Again, I love my PSVR2 for certain titles (NMS and Red Matter 2 are shockingly good on that platform), but I think Sony has really let the device down in many ways.
      Apologies for the long reply, and perhaps it's a reply which is slightly more doom and gloom than how you yourself feel. But the PSVR2 hasn't been the huge win for mainstream VR a lot of us hoped it would be.
      Edit: I've also purposely not made a video on this subject because of my negative overall take. PSVR2 is getting it from all angles, and I don't really want to contribute in that way.

    • @linzkirk
      @linzkirk 6 місяців тому +3

      @@ImmersedRobot Your reply not too long as it is detailed, well written and accurate, I feel the same way you do. But I would add one thought, PSVR2 could be the answer to getting the masses in to VR. PCVR was to niche and expensive for the masses, Quest just doesn't have the processing power to give PCVR like immersion. There are 60 million PS5's out there, if just 10% of owners adopted PSVR2 that would be 6 million. that would be enough to justify more game developers.
      I think if PSVR2 came in at $399 it would of sold more. But I dont think is overpriced, lets face it its the only mainstream headset with DFR, which IMO I would rather have than pancake lenses. Also we have got used to Meta subsidising its headsets, they lost $15 billion alone on VR in 2023.
      I think the best move for sony now it to reduce price of stock backlog to $329 or so and bundle whatever is needed for PCVR when they release that. and include Call of the mountain.

    • @PSVR2.
      @PSVR2. 6 місяців тому +1

      I think Sony are just happy to hand over the Headset to Indie Devs who are just starting to get to grips with the tech and are starting to release some pretty amazing games on it, and some I would consider better that most so called AAA games.

    great video man! yeah consistency on PCVR still seems to be problem. I personally run it (on a 3090 with a Qpro via VD) on godlike, with all the AA options turned off, and at native 72hz. Looks super crisp, and really improves the sense of depth. worth people trying it out like that - but I'm going to go try running it at 120 with SS on after watching this, cheers!

    Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video. I felt like I was taking crazy pills after getting my quest 3 and trying out NMS VR. I can get 90+ fps with ultra settings on NMS, and godlike on SteamVR, but the stuttering is atrocious. I switched both NMS and SteamVR settings to lowest and get same amount of stuttering and visual issues. SO FRUSTRATING. I tried a whole bunch of solutions on forums and some seem to help, but stuttering and consistency issues are still present. Glad I'm not the only one. Any new things to try for a smoother experience, or is this just how it is?

  • @Ownko

    I've never been able to run reprojection on my Quest 2 without hitches and stutters in any game for some reason. They make the artifacts even more noticeable and distracting. I ended up setting VD to run at plain 60 fps and I get a more consistent experience in my games while also letting me crank up the graphics a bit more.

    • @ImmersedRobot
      @ImmersedRobot  6 місяців тому +1

      I’ve always aimed for native framerates but I have to say that having finally relented and leaning on SSW in VD, No Man’s Sky runs pretty well now. I doubt I’ll use reprojection all the time, but it’s a nice option in this case.
