Deleting all of my caches saved me 80 storage. Now instead of having over 10GB available, I now have nearly 105GB available on my MacBook Air M1! Many of them date back to the day I had this MacBook.
This was exactly the solution I needed! After Effects was taking up almost 400gb of my storage. Thanks so much for creating a straightforward & easy to understand video 😊
The ~ symbol is a diacritical symbol that makes the pronunciation of similar or equal words sound the same when spoken. It is used a lot in Portuguese and some other languages. To hear the difference, type the word não (copy it if you do not know how to type it) and nao in Google Translate, then hit the speaker icon, and you will hear the difference.
I got back ~325 GB of space!!! I found the problem in the ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common files. One of several files there was the culprit! Thank you so much!
i thought this would be just some random tutorial that didn't work, but this worked like really well. I went from having 30 gb left to now 87.16 GB left. Thank you SO MUCH!
Thanks for this nice, clean video. Straight to the pint. Helped a user clearing up over 80GB. I deleted all the cache items, hopefully this does not screw with anything.
On my macbook pro it wont let me access that greyed out other items. Under recommendations the other is greyed out and i cant figure out how to get to it.
Hey Amir, I found a folder ~/Library/Caches/FNFRangeCache in the System data on my Mac. What is it? It seems to have a lot of data. Can I clear its cache?
Thank you for a helpful video, but the "symbol" mentioned at about 06:12 is too small to see, even in full screen mode, and the only key near the shift key on the left side of my keyboard is the letter "Z" - maybe our keyboards are different? Could you please put the symbol in the description area? It would be very helpful, and I'd be most grateful, thank you.
thanks for this video really helped a lot. i have a question i don't really sync much data apart from notes in icloud by using the documents folder. i have nothing on my desktop. what i do is create other folders in icloud like images, mp3, apps and so forth then dump data that i want to store in those folders. am i right in thinking that by doing it that way im using icloud as a backup system and the question is will those folders be some how synced to my mac? if the answer is yes then i might as well cancel my icloud storage account and buy an external drive because what is the point having 200gig icloud for it to be still storing data locally specially if im not using the official sync folders thanks again for a great video
You can choose not to store iCloud files locally. If you enable "Desktop & Documents" folder for iCloud, the files from these two folders will be moved to iCloud Drive, and "Optimise Storage" will automatically remove older files, that have not been used in a long time, if free storage is needed. To ensure, that the documents you want to keep mirrored locally, you can click the download arrow to force a download. To remove more local copies for files you do not need any longer locally, ctrl-click the file or folder and use the command "Remove Download". This way you can be in control of what is mirrored locally and what is only in iCloud.
I wish Apple would fix the biggest issue with iOS devices: system data (light grey bar on the bar), especially the devices with small storage (32 or 64 GB). The system data doesn't show anything so we could find out which app is taking up so much storage. And clear it up one way or other. I sometimes have to resort to the "Hail Mary" procedure of connecting iOS device to Mac computer: backing the device up, resetting the iOS device, then restoring it from the back-up. It does take lot of time and require that I configure some apps again and set up the Apple Pay and such.
if you go to storage the bigest app is going to be chrome another is going to be stuff that you don't use like imovie and garageband, removing this 3 apps already save 10gb, now if you know to acces library folder you will have temp file like caches that could be over 3gb, if you are a editor go to home/movies you could find temp final cut like untitled or resolve, another thing is that Music app copy files in music media folder music/prefences/files uncheck automaticly copy files to media music
The video is good, but still doesn't solve the problem. I have 64gb of system data and it's not in cache, not in icloud. Seems like apple just wastes your storage for nothing to push you to buy more storage.
It would be nice to solve this for the mobile devices like the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The 2 areas that drive me crazy are Documents & Data and Other. I would love to know how I could look in to those. I only store music on my device and when I delete it to do a clean install of the OS the Documents & Data and Other do not change in size.
when i go to about this mac, i dont see any options. i can go into settings, storage, and click manage - and i get a break down of storage allocated to applications, documents, etc. but it is different. it's not as actionable as the finder looking window you used for your demonstration. and what it shows in settings-storage is different than when I open in finder (finder files sizes are larger)
I understand your frustration. It seems like the options and interface might vary depending on the version of macOS you are using. Have you tried updating your system to see if it brings any changes?
Thank you so much, my After effects cache was 228gb smh thanks so much,I tried importing in some new picture into lightoom and I couldn't so was wondering what on earth is going on.
Seems like the Ventura update might have changed some settings. It's always a bit tricky when things get moved around after an update. You might want to check the System Preferences or Apple support for guidance. Hope you find it soon!
this doesn't really help much, the most struggle me and many others have is the "system data" section which takes up to usually more than 60% of your total storage, and u can't even click on to it in the first place
Can you just delete any cache?..Difficult to know whats needed and what's not... ALl I use my imac for is musoc creation..that's all and I have 424.76 GB under this mysterious "OTHER" section.. I have no idea how there so much...My music creation is only 74GB icloud is 71GB..documents is 69GB...Apps is 24GB and System is 11GB.......Where would this annoying "Other" come from.
My left ear enjoyed this video
😂😂
Yeah, its only coming out of the left speaker for me
Oh, so THERE IS the sound
Lol!
😂😂 Only had my left headphone on. Didn’t even realize the right wasn’t working.
Deleting all of my caches saved me 80 storage. Now instead of having over 10GB available, I now have nearly 105GB available on my MacBook Air M1! Many of them date back to the day I had this MacBook.
The adobe after effects was taking 250 gigs! im so grateful for this video. Thank you so much.
This is the solution I have been looking for for almost 2 years and this works for me.
I've been scouring the internet. This is the only video that actually got to the bottom of the "system files" issue. THANK YOU. just saved 459GB.
Glad it was helpful, brother.
my right ear: 😇 my left ear: 💀
This is funny cuz I just had surgery on left ear a few days ago and also very bogged up MacBook 😂
I love that you said Guitar Hero instead of Garage Band
This was exactly the solution I needed! After Effects was taking up almost 400gb of my storage. Thanks so much for creating a straightforward & easy to understand video 😊
You're most welcome, my friend.
you can just purge it to clear the caches
Lol, mine was too. I had to go in the folders and I made a guess that it's probably my DAW or some video software. Damnnnn, wtf Adobe
You save me months of frustration!!! I was looking everywhere how to delete that data stuff.
Thanks a lot buddy. My system data were 600 GB, so u saved my life.
I got a MacKeeper and is deleted all my junk! Thank you so much! I can finally download the next update!
This is SUPER helpful. My system data is taking up a ridiculous amount of storage!

You're welcome, my friend : )
Absolute lifesaver - great explanation and you've helped me free up 828GB on a 1TB Macbook Pro! 🙏
There's no developer tab on my settings. Any idea how to get to it outside of this spot?
You are great!! Thank you so much.
The only solution I found before your video was to download 3rd pary software for clearing my disk.
You are welcome : )
But how do you get to that manage screen?
My same question? 😵💫
@@brendaNhubbard07 right click on macintoshHD and choose manage storage

Hey Amir, I found a folder ~/Library/Caches/FNFRangeCache in the System data on my Mac. What is it? It seems to have a lot of data. Can I clear its cache?
How do I make the developer show up in my list? I don't have that one in my finder showing

Thank you. Helped me free 450 GB from my Mac
450GB!! That's a load of junk! I'm glad it helped you get rid of that waste!!
Thank you so much dude! I was having 88 GB of data in system data and It went to 18 GB,

The symbol is a Tilda. ~

Anytime brother.
How did you even have 200 on your phone😭
@@Jay_Grimes not my phone, my Mac desktop. its a 1TB

But does it affect your After Effect? Please Let me know!
thanks to you with the cache method I went from 116 GB to 68 GB!

what if i have an m2 macbook with the updated settings window
If you use Dropbox instead of iCloud, will Dropbox also create cache of my programs
Dude, I still have over 200gb of system data after all your suggestions 😢 -- what else can I do?
bro same I need help

Thanks for the tutorial. I free up 30gb just by trashing the caches.
The "manage" option is not htere in ventura. Do you know how to get the list from ca. 1.30 on ventura?
what?
I have only 9gb left in M1 but now after watching this video 128 gb OMG
just the video that I was looking for thank you!
Glad I could help!
thanks bro, you save my tiny ssd
Very helpful, but only eliminated 23 GB of Cache, the System Data stills 131 GB, and no more Cache to delete, any suggestions?

thanks for this. what about group containers in the library?
Thank you for your help. The video help me, but you really need to zoom, I find very hard to see what you are doing.
Noted! I will definitely make sure to zoom into the small details next time. Thanks for this feedback!
Reduce clutter doesn't appear in my macOS, anyone know why? I use Ventura 13.4 on a MB M1 Pro. Thanks for any help in advance.
What if the size of the caches doesn't match the size of system data? Like i've got 70GB in system data and only few MB in caches
But my storage being used up is my containers and I'm not sure which of the stuff is important or not
Thank you i literally cleared 70 GB from this after running off of 60mb for idk how long
You're welcome : )

the video actually start on minute 5:57....thanks Amir, but you could have saved us all almost 6 minutes of our time...
Thanks for this feedback. I will definitely consider it next time
Man you are gonna make me safe 350GB!!!!!!!!!! Is it gonna screw up anything of my files?
Turn on Optimise Storage to reduce iCloud local storage. Simples.
could I clear the after effects cache even if I still use it?
