The BEST video if you have no clue how to play a bike simulator (all of us watching this video) Game went from a frustration to a serious love based on this video.
Only came across this yesterday. The weight shifting tip has transformed how I think about and enjoy ride4 and MotoGP. Realising that you are controlling the rider, not the bike. This stuff needs explanation in all motorbike games. 🙏
Dude you have no idea how much this helped. Once I focused on weight transfer using the stick it was night and day in terms of control. Now on for speed
I've watched a few of your video's now and it's made me start playing ride 4 again which i haven't done in two years and I've managed to remove the lines on the track and had a completely different approach to playing the game. Keep up the good work
That is amazing, it works so freaking good, never felt smooth while turning before. Now it feels good, I was able to take turns i was struggling with way more efficiently, it definitely feels more natural driving this way. Honestly I can actually feel myself getting better with each lap. Very good video.
That’s wonderful to hear mate!! Very pleased to hear it has helped you improve 👍🏻👍🏻 I’m going to be doing another handcam video soon for the new track 👍🏻
@@DrAce46 its amazing just how accurate it feels, and works. I use a sim rig for all my racing games, I only recently got into the bike racing. I am still struggling with braking zones, but this technique has definitely given me far more control over handling. Thank you for taking the time to explain this to people. I wonder if it will work on isle of man 2 as well. Have to try it when I get home.
This is brilliant! I was wondering how to lean and back upright smoothly - finally you answer my question. Thank you, really helpful video. Hoping for more tips and tricks.
I've been playing moto gp and Ride 4 for awhile now. By no means a newbie, but also not the best. This video literally took me for a average racer, to a great racer. Its hard to get used to but its a complete game changer!! Thanks
I don’t mate, I leave everything preset 👍🏻 I have a suspension video on my channel were I did 30 laps testing out different suspension settings. The end results hardly change but check it out if you like pal 👍🏻
I was new play on Bike games, such a Ride 4 or MotoGP, cuz i always play F1, and then when i start to play i feel it really different how to control it, so i see a guide, but just your guide tutorial makes me understand, its great video really help full thanks
This should help a ton, thank you! I play a ton of dirt rally 1/2, and WRC9 so I'm very accustom to fast and hard turning while slamming the brakes late to whip out the rear and it's almost the exact opposite thing I should be doing here lol. Just gotta retrain my brain, I'm committed though, I can tell this discipline will have a great zen feel when you lock in. Absolutely love that feeling when there's no thought, just reaction. Great video, thanks for the handcam!
@@DrAce46 after some time using your advice, I'm officially decent at this game now, thank you. Don't have to rely on rewinds anymore and I feel like I've got full control of the bike through the entire turn now. Thanks a ton, this game is unforgiving unless you play it correctly lol, but man it feels great when it clicks.
Thankyou! This is an absolute game changer! Takes a bit of getting used to but I'm peeling seconds off my lap times. And can even complete a few clean laps in 1st person (on crap bikes).
Just got this game because I really enjoy car racing games like Dirt,Gran Turismo, and Project Cars set to simulation level difficulties because I really enjoy the challenge and the cognitive function. Crashed out several times messing with Ride 4 but figured the issue was primarily "car thinking" and not "motorcycle" thinking. I can definitely see how Ride can be very rewarding to learn and master.
100% will be that mate, you have to re-learn racing with the bikes 😂 remember to brake earlier and be super smooth with the inputs and you will be fine 😁
Hi ace what a great tips video especially using the controller cam .. going to configure my controller to your set up .. marvellous content as always ace .. have a good rest of the day mate .👍🏍️
Thanks man, I really hope it helps 👍🏻👍🏻 I’ve been using this setup for years, probably since MotoGP 08. Works a treat for me. Thanks for watching mate, I appreciate your support 👍🏻👍🏻🔥🔥
I have to say just from this video alone you have earned yourself a subscriber, this is honestly the best instructional video I’ve ever seen about this game. I have it on Xbox right now but I’m getting a new pc so I’m going to switch to that, I’d love to play with you sometime man!
The way I used to improve is I got into a custom race, started with the smallest bike until I pretty much mastered it on track. Then slowly go up through cc’s. I learned the hard way that throwing yourself straight onto a leader bike is just a disaster😂
I had to correct you because i was wrong until literally days ago. When they say liter bike, they say it because it's a 1 Liter of engine displacement (1000cc) not because it leads. Sorry for the correction! :)
Thanks for the tips on analog control, I'm new to riding games, Just bought Ride 4, I was aware bike needs to be steered different to cars but didn't think of rolling the analog stick from corner entry to exit, I think this will help me improve, Yay! Lol
I just picked up this game as I'm doing my bike test when I get back to Portugal and wanted something to scratch the itch while I'm stuck in Hong Kong. BUT, I found I absolutely suck. Forza, no problem. This, very steep learning curve. Everything you said and showed made perfect sense, thanks!
I’m not prepared nor skilled enough to try without ABS and joint brakes or auto-tuck. It’s too much to comprehend early on. But just being smoother with the inputs helped so much! Thanks!
I’ll do that, also, when I push forward on the stick down straights it seems to slow the bike down. Is this meant to happen or am I doing something wrong?
If you’re using auto tuck it will stop when you push forwards or backwards on the left analogue stick. If it’s on manual and you’re pushing the tuck in button it won’t slow the bike down 👍🏻
This is night and day compared to ride 3 i just bought 4 last night and i was eating every track on ride 3 only to be back at square 1 cursing the life out of donington. Thanks currently binging your vids since last night and so far i can at least get bronze on the weekly challenge to get some money lol really helped especially that setup vid i put it on every bike 🤣👍🏽
This is the most helpful video I’ve watched yet. I am now in the process of relearning how to work the joystick. I’ll try turning off auto tuck next. Do you use anti wheelie or traction control
Thanks man, This is very helpfull!! I bought that game today and after seen that vídeo I can play much better... Thanks alot! Cheers from Portugal 🤙✌️🇵🇹
Hey, I've always kind of stayed away from any kind of racing games cause I felt like it'd be too hard to pick up and tutorials would be confusing but this video was really helpful and you did a good job of explaining thanks
I find looking where you want to go helps a lot too. Just like riding a bike in real life, target fixation is a big deal. I'm almost never looking at the bike.
That's what you have to do, you have to be smooth with your inputs, everything has to be smooth, I've been doing that eversince playing sim games like Rfactor, assetto corsa or gpbikes, those really helped me learn being smooth with the triggers and analog stick. (I dont own a steering wheel so I have to do with what I have) I personally cringe when I see gameplay of people just flicking the analog stick lol. But yeah Smoothness is the keyword here
Also personally I dont really push the stick forward in the middle of the straights except when just accelerating oit of the corners, I dont push the stick backwards when braking either because I want the rear to be loose and ready to go sideways Also I play with manual gearbox which allows me to control the revs of the bike the way I want, and also control the "rev-up effect" when leaning
Totally smooth! You can tell by watching gameplay or even when riders are on track if they’re being too aggressive with the analogue stick. I also cringe very much 😂😂
Hi! I love your smooth riding style. I ride with different method of controls (from the ps2-tourist trophy-era, LOL), I haven't used the lean forward-backward so much in this game as the bike was slowing down, and I didn't know why - now I know: because of the auto tuck-in... Thanks for that info, bro, much appreciated! One question for your setup: if you use square for tuck-in, triangle for upshift and circle for down, how do you keep tuck-in and change gear if needed? As far as I can tell, you used auto gearbox, but I prefer manual (ok, like I said, my settings are different, just curious :) )
Thanks mate! Wow what a classic game that is! 🔥 great taste 👍🏻 yeah keep tuck in on manual. It’s much better! My setup is X - Tuck in Square - rear brake Circle - gear down Triangle - gear up I actually hold the tuck in with the palm of the thumb and gear up with triangle. It’s somewhat unorthodox and I possibly wouldn’t recommend 😂 but it works super for me
thanks man your video helped alot even though i use an xbox controller just rebinded the gear up to RB instead cuz its a bit jank pressing 3-4 butons when you downshift into a corner and then hitting the upshift button. but it helped so much barking lines makes sense now before i couldnt brake hard enough to match the line so i runned off track alot. i can keep up with the ai pretty good through corners aswell thank you.
Great news dude! I’m glad it’s helped. Yeah by all means use whatever configuration you like just make sure you’re smooth and controlled with that analogue stick 🔥🔥
Bro I’ve always used auto tuck and never once thought this would help as I can’t really see the rider move but definitely will be trying and I’m sure it’ll improve my lap times. Thanks.
Great videos helped me a lot, cheers DrAce, your very smooth and fast. Just like me when I’m banging one out ✌️😑😄. Sorry I’m slightly immature, but thanks for all your experience and knowledge mate 👍
Was wondering why the rear has been sliding out so much on my approaches, haha. I did manage to snag the golds on the regional license with out this advice which is a marvel for me.
WOW, I think that's why I was sooooo bad at motorcycle racing games when I was still playing on the PS2 in the past.. I always moved the analog stick like I was playing a car game haha. now i understand how to move the analog stick correctly in moto racing games😂😂
Thought I'd drop a comment on my progress. I never could get used to pulling the analogue stick backwards, it used to throw me off and no amount of retraining my brain would make it work. Now, I have tested the rider weight mechanics a bit and I can see no difference in front end grip from leaning forward. Also leaning forward seems makes no difference to how quick the front wheel comes up, compared to sitting central. The only difference I can see in my testing is that leaning forward on the brakes will cause the rear to lift and pulling back during acceleration will lift the front, more so than a simple power wheelie. Based on this, I've unbound the lean forwards and backwards buttons and I can now use the front 180 degrees of movement all the time. I still get the benefit of smooth movement, I'm basically pushing forward during braking (unbound), then slowly tipping it in, then slowly returning to centre after the apex. Here's something you may want to test, for your own benefit. In my testing, tucking does not fully negate the rider leaning forward, it does mostly cancel the riders weight, but not entirely. Try it out in a braking zone, with the stick forward you'll flip the bike at max front brake. Now try it again, rider forward, max brake, with tuck this time, you'll lift the rear but nowhere near as much. However, try once more wihh the stick central and no tuck and the rear stays planted. The reason I mention this is that got me wondering if it could be causing a slight amount of drag on the straights, possibly losing you a few mph, worth a thought when going for world record lap times. Hopefully I made sense.
Thanks for the update mate, I’m really surprised that you found no difference with pushing forwards on the analogue stick. I swear by it to keep the front end down. I tried it out a moment ago on Kyalami. The wheelies were absurd without the analogue stick pushed forwards. Same applies to the weight backwards as well. I can’t go without them the riding was all over the place. A friend of mine re-maps the rider weight forward to one of the shoulder buttons so he doesn’t have to push forward or backwards on the analogue stick. I can’t understand why it’s different for us 😂😂 thanks for letting me know mate 👍🏻
@@DrAce46 Different strokes for different folks I suppose. It is weird though, I may do some more testing on the wheelies but it's a hard one to test consistently. I'll let you know if I do. I really wish the leader board was cross platform, its not like those playing on PC have an advantage, they use controllers too. I've got some top 15's and even a 3rd place, but it means nothing when it doesn't take into account PlayStation and PC times.
It’s still competing on the designated platform. 👍🏻 don’t downplay your achievements mate. When I’ve issued a challenge for a lap time I always say post me a screenshot of the time and we can all compete against each other regardless of platform
@@DrAce46 You know what I mean though, if I hit 1st then I can't technically call it a world record without checking other platforms, or can I? My 3rd is at Brands Hatch GP riding the 2005 RM Fireblade, 1:24:419, 2nd place is a 1:24:388 my projected best was the 1:24:177, so a good lap without mistakes would net me 2nd. However, to beat 1st I need to find a whole second at 1:23:407. I noticed I did that lap with soft front and rear, which is unusual as I usually run a harder front, so might find some time there.
@@cheesetoastie9678 Of course you can! You would be the world fastest rider of your platform 👍🏻 If we started looking way into it you could argue that a lap in race could have possibly been quicker but it wouldn’t be recorded due to it not being attained in time trial so we’ll never really have a definitive answer but there’s no prizes, so it doesn’t matter too much 😂
My problem is if I have transmission on semi automatic and try to do the downshifting myself, the game might shift a split second before me, and my thumb is already shifting as well, resulting in the bike being a gear lower than I want. It seems to me that manually downshifting when it is on semi automatic means that you always have to be down shifting a split second earlier than the game would. Correct? I keep finding myself being in a lower gear than I want to be in a turn because of this double down shifting. Excellent video. Thanks for such detail.
I bought Controller 5 days ago, already used to it to do kinda good lap times, but still didn't use the weight transfer, because then i mess up:))) Now it's time to start incorporating this as well. What word did you use that sounds "talking"? Is it "tuck-in"? Sorry, non English native speaker. Great channel, love it a lot😍👏
This was really helpful, I used to shift the weight backwards on l1 together with releasing the tuck in button, I need to try like this. I put the tuck in on L1, the thought process was "if I'm braking the weight has to be backwards regardless". Hopefully I didn't miss any scenarios...? 🤔 Rear brake on x, it' easy for the thumb to work on it and down shift on square at the same time. I could never do without upshifting, I will always think making the motor scream till the end of the revs is one of the most satisfying things about driving and I'll be a bit sad when electric propulsion will completely take over the world. Environment comes first though. 💪
Happy to hear it helped mate! Definitely play around with the controller configuration to find what’s best for you. I’ve always stuck to the configuration i mentioned and it’s served me well but everyone will find there own style 👍🏻 That’s a great point regarding the upshifting. Last night I seen an electric MX bike.. it was so disappointing mate 😞
@@DrAce46 I wish I had a style 😅 As far as I understand my style atm is pretty much going in the corners like a madman and come out of em barely alive, which leads to bad exits, stress and mistakes. 🤣 Yeah I can imagine, a silent motocross race? That's some really surreal stuff. I'd love some more silence in the cities though 🤔
@@fabriziopiccolo5646 I must have missed this comment buddy! You’ll develop your style mate, just give it time 🔥 you must have improved already since this common am I right? 😎
@@DrAce46 yup, definitely! There's still work to be done on the left stick but I'm starting to feel like I can actually challenge the fastest riders in some curves, I don't know if I'm ever gonna be a world record level player cause some people were just born to ride (like you) but still, I'm getting some REAL satisfactions. 😎🔥
@@fabriziopiccolo5646 I thought I wasn’t fast enough when I first started out, you’ll be right up there if you keep putting the effort and the practice in. I believe in you pal 🔥
Interesting. I never would think to bias weight forward and aft in the middle of a turn. I wouldn't do this in real life sport bike motorcycling. I've done it a bit on a sumo. I own and have tracked a Panigale 1299s and your pretty locked into the cockpit. The only real degree of freedom is side to side. On a sumo the seat is designed to move forward if your backing out the rear. Regarding the game play, good tips!
Wow! I love the Panigale! That’s really awesome. I’ve never had the opportunity to ride such an incredible bike it’s always interesting to hear how it’s different to the game 👍🏻 thanks! Hope it helps ♠️
Hey mate, great tutorial on bike control. Do you have any suggestions regarding what super sport bike to practice on with practicing to learn the new way of using the analog sticks?
I think the Suzuki GSXR 1000 or The Fireblade are great choices mate 👍🏻👍🏻 but if you’re looking for something smaller, you can’t go wrong with a Triumph Daytona 675 or Yamaha R6
I bought this game because it was very cheap on sale and I just wanted to have some fun driving a race every now and then, not making a study about how I can race perfectly. But I have to pass some tests first and I'm stuck at the Nurburgring. For some reason I cannot get past the fourth one (pass 4 opponents) because the other drivers are too fast. Btw, if one of them falls and you pass him, this does not count. Games like Gran Turismo also have license tests, but you can at least race before doing them all. I'm kinda disappointed, even when the game was on sale.
I don’t believe you have to do all of the all of the career mode objectives to move on. If I recall correctly You should only need so many points to move on. So you can try changing to another part of career mode and earning the trophies there
@@tegami0102 basically by using manual tuck you can dictate to where to use the tuck and where not to. The game does a bad job of deciding when to tuck in auto mode. Also any movements shifting backwards or forwards will disengage auto tuck. Trust me dude it’ll help 👍🏻
Hello there, thanks for the great content provided first! Now I wonder about something, hopefully you can answer despite the relative age of the video: What riding aids do you recommend for optimal control? My current setup is: _Physics sim: advanced _Transmission semi auto _Automatic brakes: off _Joint brakes: on _Abs: off _Offtrack help: off _Tuck in: Turning off automatic now thanks to this video (: _Ideal traj:On Thank you in advance for your, I hope, coming explanation! Cheers
Hi mate, you’re welcome 👍🏻👍🏻 So I would recommend for ultimate control provided that you’re are a skilled player: Realistic physics/handling Transmission either semi automatic or manual Automatic brakes off Joint brakes off ABS off Off track help off Tuck in manual Ideal track off Electronics: EB - 2 AW - 1 TCS - 0 Hope that helps 👍🏻
@@DrAce46 Tbh I m still very new to Ride4. I'm about 10 hours in so far. I do have some prior experience to moto gp 20 (~60h) and gt sport so I find the handling ok'. I also know some of the maps but not all so the trackline guide helps me for now to learn the tracks especially more since I have to swap bike very often for the events and I m still fiddling with the suspension and co settings. I didn t swap the AW ER and TCS yet before your comment and it indeed feels way better now, realistic physic is fine as well! Thanks for your input overall m8 and for answering quickly on an "hold" vid. Cheers !
Really useful technique, I always wonder how would it be to use front and rear weight of the rider. But I wanna ask you something, when you press X all the time in straight, you don’t shift the gears but it automatically shifting in the video but you do in corners. Do you use semi-automatic for this technique? Thanks mate!
Thanks mate, I do indeed use semi automatic. I mostly focus on the downshifting I think that helps a lot to get quicker because you can scrub off more speed and sometimes even force the rear to slide into the corners. I hope it helps pal 👍🏻
Amazing video! Though I do have a question, do you believe that adjusting controller mapping maybe has an affect on bike control? Out of experience for myself I tinkered with my joystick sensitivity and started putting down consistent laps on a bone stock bike. I was impressed though I wonder if it’s just me or if this does help?
Thanks mate, hope it helped. I’ll be honest I haven’t touched anything settings wise. I wanted to keep everything default. I think it would be down to preference, you could have a play around and see what works best 😁
@@DrAce46 Absolutely, and of course it helped! Your videos have helped me get quite fast, you make understandable content that I can apply to the way I play. I really appreciate it!
@@DrAce46 OK, I see. I couldn't do it and it was not working properly on Win10 so had to use DS4, but was not happy with my dying PS controller who had a mind of his own at some points (I do not action anything and it just makes moves on it's own). Just bought new Xbox controller since some said it is better. It connects without need of DS4 but I do not like the feel and it is so loud. I already hate it. :)
@@CyberGasty it was quite easy to setup all 7 of my PS4 controllers (not sure why I have so many) 🤦🏻♂️ you just hold the share button and the power button on the controller simultaneously and search for the controller in Bluetooth settings. Runs perfectly for me. I think you may have to go into the steam settings to ensure it’s recognised as a DualShock or something like that. Yeah totally agree, I’m not a fan of the Xbox controller at all. Connectivity is great but it’s so clunky and heavy 😂😂 hopefully you can get the DualShock sorted mate
@@DrAce46 The thing is that I followed the same procedure with my PS4 controller. It is recognized as "wireless controller", and in Steam as dual shock but would not work in Ride for some reason. Then I used DS4 and Xbox360 controller appears next to "wirelesses controller" and it works in Ride, can calibrate it etc. Tried couple of times again without DS4 but nada....no chance. But to be honest I changed it only because it started to have a mind on its own (I had gas on and it starts braking as if I am pushing the button, which I didn't). Changing leaning backwards or forward without my input, and so on.
I’m about ready to buy R4.i raced decades ago but I’m sure I will need to start learning again. So, I have a noobie question, how are you leaning the bike into the corners
very helpful for a newcomer to 2 wheel racing, thank you. Do you have any advice on how to tackle the progression to the faster bikes? I'm getting along pretty well with anything up to like 600cc but It feels like an impossible task to race a 1000cc bike. Is it just track time and patience or is there some advice you can give
My pleasure mate, glad it helped 👍🏻 Seems like a cop out for me to say practice makes perfect but it somewhat is. However if I can offer some advice it would be do the same as you do on the 600cc but be more gentle and handle with care if that makes sense. So if you can make a corner with 100% throttle on a 600cc you’ll can probably make the same corner with 75% throttle on a 1000cc 👍🏻 hope that helps mate
@@DrAce46 How do i manage to get the faster bikes to turn in properly? I just spent almost an hour trying to pass the world license test at interlagos with the S1000RR with no success ( the speed trap thing ). If i brake early enough to manage turn in, i hit the speed trap before the corner too slow and even then i often miss the next speed trap with understeer, sliding wide. I really enjoy this game but it is so frustrating .. especially the speed trap challenges. even worse with fast bikes. I wish i knew what i was doing wrong - i just can't understand how people go so fast, with no understeer and still carry so much speed through corners
I think you’re referring to this challenge here: ua-cam.com/video/WOfU_RizzBg/v-deo.html If you skip to 8 minutes in I think it’s this challenge you’re stuck on. You to break literally at the speed trap. But also most of the speed traps are bugged now. So you can just finish the lap and no penalty time will actually be applied at the end of the session. It’s all brake early to get faster corner speed, if you brake late it’s much harder to gather any corner speed
@@DrAce46 ok I'll look into it again tomorrow, thanks for the link. Do the superbikes need more trail braking into the corners than any other bikes? I haven't had the same issues with the 1000cc naked bikes or slower bikes, just the 1000cc sport ones
the hardest part is knowing when to break and how hard to break, unlike other racing games here you have to break way early and it's tricky, you have to know the track really well
Great content! i think i ve understoode the general ratinale behind these tricks but still something hampers me and im not sure if it is my xbox handcam, it is plump so the analog sometimes can be out of my thumbs' reach and the RT, throttle, can change the throttle in the game greatly by pushing it down very gently so i struggle to find the appropriate force to apply to get the ideal speed ,that i have a good feeling about, when cornering and fell off the track😭😭. i wonder if the ps handcam like the one of yours is better for these problems or it is just my lack of practice. thx very much and very amazing to see a youbuter reply all his comments i love your spirit do keep going!❤️❤️
Hey buddy, thanks for the compliment 🔥 I do my best 😁 so in my experience I found that the Xbox controller has a large deadzone on the RT. So you can be pushing down on the trigger and it won’t register the input due to the deadzone. That’s something you’ll be able to get used to but if swapping to another controller is possible I’d consider swapping over to see the difference 👍🏻 regardless you will become better over time with practice 🔥 keep pushing
Are you playing in Manual or Auto mode? What's the level of your AWS and TSC? I bought a Panigale V4S (my dream bike) and without AWS and TCS is impossible to speed up it lmao Nice guide btw, thanks.
Hi Ace! Thanks for your videos teaching how to play this (very challenging) game. In this video, you said if you are on a straight, that you need to be tucked in and holding forward. However, I've found that if I hold forward while on a long straight then let go of the left stick, the bike actually picks up speed - so holding forward must be slowing the bike down. Does this mean that we should only be holding forward on the left stuck when we are accelerating hard? Is there a way to know when I should be holding/or not on a straight? Thanks again!
I was having the same issue and the cause was using auto tuck. I switched to his controller layout, turned off auto tuck and now it works for me just like you see in the video.
So as for leaning forward on the straights. Is this still valid? Just got the game a few hours ago and have been having a blast. I am currently working on the American Regional License. Got the first 4 gold without too much issue but this 6R and VIR are kicking my butt. If I try to lean forward on the 6R in the initial straight it just kills my acceleration, as a matter of fact the bike is actually decelerating. *Update: Figured out the issue after watching your updated version of this video, in which you said that if you use auto tuck the stick will actually transfer the riders weight which was clearly what I was experiencing weight transfer followed by traction loss. Just wasn't sure why I was and you were not. Once I swapped over to your controller config and turned off auto tuck that problem was solved. Now just to forget everything I know about driving in any other game, Forget most of what I learned in the last 6 hours using auto tuck on this game and then I can start trying to learn how to ride correctly. Going from auto tuck, left-right flicks for steering with almost no forward or back it is a lot to take in at once and re learn.
Yeah you need to be holding the tuck in button to negate the rider leaning forwards or backwards. It is quite a learning curve but once you crack the smooth movements you’ll be sorted 👍🏻
@@DrAce46 Yeah It definitely has quite the learning curve, But I have been climbing that curve, slowly but surely. 2 weeks ago when I typed that comment I was struggling hard just to finish my first regional license. Taking the time to learn how to correctly handle the bike has been quite rewarding and I have seen leaps and bounds in my skill level. Currently I am sitting in the top 300 on the weekly challenge (~1.60 seconds behind you) and I am pretty pleased with that considering the difference in experience and owe it to this video and your updated version of this video you put out a few weeks ago, both helped tremendously. Hopefully before too long I can get in that top 100 range with you lol Still have a lot of work before we get there though.
The learning curve is a bitch! Especially when one is used to the late braking of any car racing game. I just started and already I’ve waxed every track I’ve been on with the ass of the rider. They should have a dlc for my rider’s healthcare 😂. I’m being patient and sticking with it. In a weird way slower and patient is faster on bikes.
How early do you need to pull back on the stick? When I try it sometime the bike wheelies while I’m still accelerating. Or do you untuck, shift weight back and start to break at the same time?
Hey mate, a recent update makes you still wheelie when pushing the weight back even whilst tucking. I recommend pulling back on the stick just before you’re about to breaks mate 👍🏻
Is it better to train with a slower bike to learn the movement like a 300cc or should one use a slightly faster one like a 600cc because one learns the track better because of the speed in the corners?
I do recommend starting off smaller but it’s entirely up to you 👍🏻 reduce the electronics as much as you can on the smaller bike so they jump isn’t as large when moving up to the big bikes 🔥
My controls are so different! I use the right analog stick for throttle and front brake forward for throttle back for front brake, right trigger is my rear brake and left trigger is clutch, shoulder buttons up / down gears, everything else is similar though. This is how it was by default on the ride motogp game on PS2 so it got burned into my brain and since then all bike games I have to have it like this lol. Also I steer different, I move the left stick straight across not around the side.
Hey man, can you please tell a bit more about the interaction of shifting weight and tuck-in? For example, I noticed that on straights when you hold the tuck in button your speed will increase rapidly, however, there are no changes in the rider's animation. Same thing goes for weight shifting, I kind of understand what purpose it serves, even though it's really my first bike sim, however since there are no obvious animations apart from wheelies on straights it's hard for me to feel the importance of shifting weight. Does it actually work as you say when cornering? I also found that shifting down is pretty much mandatory in lots of corners, since it's way quicker than simply braking with the trigger.
Hi mate, If you’re holding the tuck in button it doesn’t matter if you push the analogue stick forwards or backwards the tuck in button overrides it. There is a difference when you push forwards or backwards you can see the rider moves his head ever so slightly. If you’re downshifting already then that’s great news, you can gain a lot of time under braking that way but I’ve not implemented that for the beginners yet 👍🏻👍🏻
@@DrAce46 I'm by no means a complete beginner to the sim racing genre, I've played games of Gran Turismo series and NFS Shift 2 and such, but my first and pretty much only contact with 2 wheel racing was with a MotoGP game back in the PS2 era and it was an extremely brief contact at that lol. I got Ride 4 literally 2 days ago and it forced me to completely rewire my approach to cornering and stuff. At first I tried to play with lots of aids bar the automatic braking but I quickly realised that they were drastically hindering my performance, especially the absolutely bonkers racing line which seems to be designed for cars lol. Since today I've been playing with pretty much everything off except for semi-auto gearbox and rewind and I've seen lots of things improving for me after watching your videos, even managed to get all gold in a couple of championships. Just wanted to make sure about weight shifting since the animations are barely noticeable and one other youtuber said in his comment section that it doesn't make a difference for him. Thanks a bunch for a quick response.
Nice mate!! I imagine the jump from cars to bike is tough as nails! I never do well when racing cars 😂 always braking too early and taking bike lines lol Yeah I hear you 100% in regards to the racing line and assist. They’re more pain than assistance 😂😂 glad my videos have helped mate. If you need anything just me give a shout 👍🏻👍🏻
Hi there. Do you have any problems with deadzone in your thumbstick? Maybe it's just because I'm playing Ride 4 for only 2 days and no experience using thumbsticks. But I'm having problems with stabilising the rider in wide corners and adjust trajectories when I brake too much entering corners.
@@DrAce46 thanks, I'm providing one hahaha do you play on pc? I don't understand English, but it seems you're the only one willing to teach, I'll try to understand what you say :D
I think you only play with auto upshifts? Otherwise how would you be able to shift up with triangle while holding down X? Guess for manual people it would make more sense to switch duck in on square and rear brake on x. Anyway thanks for the video will try it out 👍
Yeah mate, auto up shift and I usually take care of the downshifts 👍🏻 that could work mate, I showed my controller settings to explain what works for me I don’t it will work for everyone. A popular configuration I see is Triangle as the tuck in and everything set around that. Have a play around and see what you can find 👍🏻👍🏻 thanks mate
How come all of a sudden I have wheelie issues. Can’t get a good start or rip down a straight without it flipping me! My setup has always been good, but this has just started to happen? Ta.
Hi mate one of the most recent patches totally messed with the anti-wheelie. It's now unreliable when starting a grand prix, also for some reason online it seems worse somehow

The BEST video if you have no clue how to play a bike simulator (all of us watching this video)
Game went from a frustration to a serious love based on this video.
Very pleased to hear that this helped mate!!
Only came across this yesterday. The weight shifting tip has transformed how I think about and enjoy ride4 and MotoGP. Realising that you are controlling the rider, not the bike. This stuff needs explanation in all motorbike games. 🙏
Glad it was helpful mate! 🔥 I’ll keep spreading the word 👍🏻
Dude you have no idea how much this helped. Once I focused on weight transfer using the stick it was night and day in terms of control. Now on for speed
Awesome! I'm glad the video was helpful :D

I've watched a few of your video's now and it's made me start playing ride 4 again which i haven't done in two years and I've managed to remove the lines on the track and had a completely different approach to playing the game. Keep up the good work
Awesome mate!! I'm glad you're enjoying the game :D
Finally, a RIDE 4 Tips with Handcam. Thanks mate, it's really helpfull
My pleasure mate! I'm glad it was helpful!

Happy to help!

The way I used to improve is I got into a custom race, started with the smallest bike until I pretty much mastered it on track. Then slowly go up through cc’s. I learned the hard way that throwing yourself straight onto a leader bike is just a disaster😂
Best way to learn! 👍🏻👍🏻
I had to correct you because i was wrong until literally days ago. When they say liter bike, they say it because it's a 1 Liter of engine displacement (1000cc) not because it leads. Sorry for the correction! :)

I’m not prepared nor skilled enough to try without ABS and joint brakes or auto-tuck. It’s too much to comprehend early on. But just being smoother with the inputs helped so much! Thanks!
You’re welcome mate, I’m glad the video helps. Don’t worry about the electronics yet. Just take your time and slowly implement them 👍🏻👍🏻
I’ll do that, also, when I push forward on the stick down straights it seems to slow the bike down. Is this meant to happen or am I doing something wrong?
If you’re using auto tuck it will stop when you push forwards or backwards on the left analogue stick. If it’s on manual and you’re pushing the tuck in button it won’t slow the bike down 👍🏻
Alright, thanks
This is night and day compared to ride 3 i just bought 4 last night and i was eating every track on ride 3 only to be back at square 1 cursing the life out of donington. Anti wheelie 1
Traction control 0/1 depending on bike 👍🏻

@@DrAce46 how to play in free roam please help
@@amindadgar1589 there isn’t a free roam in RIDE 4
That's what you have to do, you have to be smooth with your inputs, everything has to be smooth, I've been doing that eversince playing sim games like Rfactor, assetto corsa or gpbikes, those really helped me learn being smooth with the triggers and analog stick. (I dont own a steering wheel so I have to do with what I have) I personally cringe when I see gameplay of people just flicking the analog stick lol. But yeah Smoothness is the keyword here
Also personally I dont really push the stick forward in the middle of the straights except when just accelerating oit of the corners, I dont push the stick backwards when braking either because I want the rear to be loose and ready to go sideways
Also I play with manual gearbox which allows me to control the revs of the bike the way I want, and also control the "rev-up effect" when leaning
Totally smooth! You can tell by watching gameplay or even when riders are on track if they’re being too aggressive with the analogue stick. I also cringe very much 😂😂
@@nibv6996 haha I noticed you don’t push back on the stick for braking since you love to slide the rear so much!! 😂😂
My setup is
X - Tuck in
Square - rear brake
Circle - gear down
Triangle - gear up
I actually hold the tuck in with the palm of the thumb and gear up with triangle.
Thanks.
Try it and see what you think. You don’t have to use the manual tuck but for me I find it helps a lot 👍🏻
Great videos helped me a lot, cheers DrAce, your very smooth and fast. Just like me when I’m banging one out ✌️😑😄.

Good job dude! The rear is sliding into the corner??
Great video! Really Helpfull! :D
Glad to hear! Cheers mate :D
WOW, I think that's why I was sooooo bad at motorcycle racing games when I was still playing on the PS2 in the past.. I always moved the analog stick like I was playing a car game haha.
now i understand how to move the analog stick correctly in moto racing games😂😂
Got to be smooth with that analogue stick dude 🔥🔥
I guess counter steering like in real life is not a good idea 😂 great vid!
Haha no mate 😂😂
Thanks buddy I hope it helped 👍🏻
Give manual gears a try then mate 👍🏻

I bought Controller 5 days ago, already used to it to do kinda good lap times, but still didn't use the weight transfer, because then i mess up:))) Now it's time to start incorporating this as well. What word did you use that sounds "talking"? Is it "tuck-in"? Sorry, non English native speaker.
Great channel, love it a lot😍👏
Thanks mate, yes “tuck in” when the rider tucks in and gets behind the bubble 🔥
This was really helpful, I used to shift the weight backwards on l1 together with releasing the tuck in button, I need to try like this. I put the tuck in on L1, the thought process was "if I'm braking the weight has to be backwards regardless". Hopefully I didn't miss any scenarios...? 🤔
Rear brake on x, it' easy for the thumb to work on it and down shift on square at the same time.
I could never do without upshifting, I will always think making the motor scream till the end of the revs is one of the most satisfying things about driving and I'll be a bit sad when electric propulsion will completely take over the world.
Environment comes first though. 💪

So you can try changing to another part of career mode and earning the trophies there
Amazing tips ! It's impressive how milestone have designed that mechanic with the weight repartition. I'm using auto tuck, does it matter ?
It really is, it works with all there bike games too 👍🏻 Yeah I would say auto tuck is a huge disadvantage mate. Try and move over to manual tuck 👍🏻
@@DrAce46 All right will give it a try, but I don't see that that can help improve lap times apart from increasing point multipliers in career :p
@@tegami0102 basically by using manual tuck you can dictate to where to use the tuck and where not to. The game does a bad job of deciding when to tuck in auto mode. Also any movements shifting backwards or forwards will disengage auto tuck. Trust me dude it’ll help 👍🏻

Really useful technique, I always wonder how would it be to use front and rear weight of the rider. But I wanna ask you something, when you press X all the time in straight, you don’t shift the gears but it automatically shifting in the video but you do in corners. Do you use semi-automatic for this technique? Thanks mate!

Oh that sucks man. 😞 I hope you can get another DualShock 4 and it works. It’s far better in my opinion 👍🏻
Thank you ❤
This is the hardest game I’ve ever played
I’m about ready to buy R4.i raced decades ago but I’m sure I will need to start learning again. So, I have a noobie question, how are you leaning the bike into the corners
It’s all done with the left analogue stick
very helpful for a newcomer to 2 wheel racing, thank you. Do you have any advice on how to tackle the progression to the faster bikes? I'm getting along pretty well with anything up to like 600cc but It feels like an impossible task to race a 1000cc bike. Is it just track time and patience or is there some advice you can give
My pleasure mate, glad it helped 👍🏻
Seems like a cop out for me to say practice makes perfect but it somewhat is.
@@DrAce46 cheers mate will try that
@@DrAce46 How do i manage to get the faster bikes to turn in properly? I just spent almost an hour trying to pass the world license test at interlagos with the S1000RR with no success ( the speed trap thing ).
If i brake early enough to manage turn in, i hit the speed trap before the corner too slow and even then i often miss the next speed trap with understeer, sliding wide.
I really enjoy this game but it is so frustrating .. especially the speed trap challenges. even worse with fast bikes.
I wish i knew what i was doing wrong - i just can't understand how people go so fast, with no understeer and still carry so much speed through corners
I think you’re referring to this challenge here: ua-cam.com/video/WOfU_RizzBg/v-deo.html
If you skip to 8 minutes in I think it’s this challenge you’re stuck on.
I haven't had the same issues with the 1000cc naked bikes or slower bikes, just the 1000cc sport ones
the hardest part is knowing when to break and how hard to break, unlike other racing games here you have to break way early and it's tricky, you have to know the track really well
Yeah that’s a big part of the learning process 👍🏻
I bought a Panigale V4S (my dream bike) and without AWS and TCS is impossible to speed up it lmao
Nice guide btw, thanks.
Semi automatic dude, depends on the bike for the electronics. But usually I use:
TCS - 0
AW - 1
EB - 2
@@DrAce46 thanks.
I switched to his controller layout, turned off auto tuck and now it works for me just like you see in the video.
my dream bike
Great video!
Thanks buddy!! 🔥
Well… i wasn’t expecting the auto tuck feature to be holding me back 😂 no wonder the AI is so fast
I’m glad I could help
A video in wet track in suzuka?
I’ll see what I can do 👍🏻👍🏻
is there a point in binding move forward to the analog stick if you have manual tuck? do they do the same thing?
The manual tuck is seperate but it's worth having both assigned :D
The learning curve is a bitch! Especially when one is used to the late braking of any car racing game. I just started and already I’ve waxed every track I’ve been on with the ass of the rider. They should have a dlc for my rider’s healthcare 😂. I’m being patient and sticking with it. In a weird way slower and patient is faster on bikes.
Yeah that's it mate, it always takes time to learn when coming from a car background. It's the same way for me if I try to play car games!
can you pls post an image of your full controller bindings? thanks
Sure mate, I’ll post it in on my community tab tomorrow 👍🏻
@@DrAce46 thanks much appreciated! pls give me a URL once u post.. thank you
It won’t let me share the post but it’s up on my community tab now mate 👍🏻
How early do you need to pull back on the stick? When I try it sometime the bike wheelies while I’m still accelerating. Or do you untuck, shift weight back and start to break at the same time?
Hey mate, a recent update makes you still wheelie when pushing the weight back even whilst tucking. I recommend pulling back on the stick just before you’re about to breaks mate 👍🏻
@@DrAce46 yep I started doing this through practising. Was shocked that the r3 would lift the front in 4th gear at low revs... thanks!
@@jfrog5181 no problem buddy! Yeah I’m also surprised by that 😂😂😂
so you have throttle and breaks on the buttons? That's where you also need gradual adjustments...
Not sure where you got that impression, the front brake is set to L2 and the throttle is set to R2. Square button is for rear brake
Is it better to train with a slower bike to learn the movement like a 300cc or should one use a slightly faster one like a 600cc because one learns the track better because of the speed in the corners?
I do recommend starting off smaller but it’s entirely up to you 👍🏻 reduce the electronics as much as you can on the smaller bike so they jump isn’t as large when moving up to the big bikes 🔥
i was like "wtf is talking buttom?" 😂
I'm not sure what you mean mate?
My controls are so different! I use the right analog stick for throttle and front brake forward for throttle back for front brake, right trigger is my rear brake and left trigger is clutch, shoulder buttons up / down gears, everything else is similar though. This is how it was by default on the ride motogp game on PS2 so it got burned into my brain and since then all bike games I have to have it like this lol. Also I steer different, I move the left stick straight across not around the side.
I played MotoGP 13 on the PS Vita and the controls were like that 😂
@@DrAce46 lol awesome! Fandango / Fernandez 99 here btw, enjoy these vids mate
@@doomfathertm8771 Thanks mate!
I never do well when racing cars 😂 always braking too early and taking bike lines lol
Yeah I hear you 100% in regards to the racing line and assist. They’re more pain than assistance 😂😂 glad my videos have helped mate. If you need anything just me give a shout 👍🏻👍🏻
What do you mean with clutch to one??
Clutch is assigned to R1 for me. I rarely use it however
Hi there. Do you have any problems with deadzone in your thumbstick? Maybe it's just because I'm playing Ride 4 for only 2 days and no experience using thumbsticks. But I'm having problems with stabilising the rider in wide corners and adjust trajectories when I brake too much entering corners.
Hey mate, I've never had any issues with deadzones on PC. Are you on console or PC?

Either is fine
Is it possible to use a Sim racing steering wheel and pedals set to control this game on steam?
I do believe so
I think you only play with auto upshifts? Otherwise how would you be able to shift up with triangle while holding down X? Guess for manual people it would make more sense to switch duck in on square and rear brake on x. Anyway thanks for the video will try it out 👍
Yeah mate, auto up shift and I usually take care of the downshifts 👍🏻 that could work mate, I showed my controller settings to explain what works for me I don’t it will work for everyone. A popular configuration I see is Triangle as the tuck in and everything set around that. Have a play around and see what you can find 👍🏻👍🏻 thanks mate
Smooth hands haha
Is it fine to play Ride 4 on gyro mode or do I have to be using the Analog stick?
There’s no gyro available I don’t think mate
how to connect the dual shock to play ? I have connect it to my PC but I can use ingame
You can do it via steam controller configuration mate
How come all of a sudden I have wheelie issues. Can’t get a good start or rip down a straight without it flipping me! My setup has always been good, but this has just started to happen? Ta.
Hi mate one of the most recent patches totally messed with the anti-wheelie. It's now unreliable when starting a grand prix, also for some reason online it seems worse somehow
