First time Ride player. Scrolling the racing game market on my PS5 late last night and came across this good looking motorcycle game. Bought it after a little bit of thought and loaded it up. After getting acclimated with the controls I was managing to get bronze on the first few races and was really confused how people were getting anywhere near the gold times. Came across this video today (the following afternoon), giving these new tips a go 👌
The weight management helped me so much with braking and cornering, i was struggling the most with that on the rainy maps. This video is a must for the new players in this game. Thank you!
Thank you for your videos, i just got into Ride 4 and they have been really helpful! As a real world motorcycle rider alot of your concepts actually do help real world riding as well, the way you explain it helps to relate it to the game concepts. Love your videos! 🤟🤟
Man, I humbly take back everything I said negative about ride 4. It was all me! I played around with settings, stuck everything on realistic & boom, absolutely loving it! The variety of bikes & individual feel of each is awesome. So is the tuning. Yee ha let's go for a buzz on a '93 900 Monster!
finally. i knew this game had potential so i was looking for a professional tutorial, but unfortunately very few people play it, even less with realistic settings.
Helpful video! When I first started this game I almost returned right away as I thought the controls were ridiculous. After slowing down a bit and trying not to be a spaz I started to enjoy it and advance a little.
Got ride 4 with everything on sale started playing it been having a problem with the late leaning like you were talking about coming over from super cross and motocross
Omg!! You're seriously pro at this game. I'm generally an F1/car gamer, and two days ago, I decided to play MotoGP 22 on Gamespass. Took me one hr to get into it, having never played a bike game before, and honestly, I've been missing out. I had that much fun, I decided to buy Ride 4 also. Your videos are very helpful and make me realise how bad I am at bike games but, it's doesn't matter. I will learn, truly enjoy, and have fun. Cheers
Again another great and informative video. The controller overlay really helped, thanks! I'm trying to learn the game with solo time trials - I'm yet to set a valid time lol.
Just picked this game up a couple days ago. Took some time to get the hang of it. Still stuck on the american circuit but managed to gold the 300cc races. Still stuck mostly on bronze on the license races and the 600cc is like its own beast. I cannot seem to get the 600cc under control. Amazong how smooth you make this look.
Im the best person I know in mx vs atv and I’ve always struggled with games like this. I only bought it because it was $7.50 and has super motos but I’m struggling to figure out how to ride in this game. Your video helped me understand some more stuff and now I just have to practice and remember there’s no berms to hold me 😂
Been playing Moto GP for a while & just got Ride 4 on sale & it's kind of crazy how different they feel. I've heard some people say they like Ride's physics better, but I think i heard you mention in a recent-ish video that you prefer the new physics & i totally agree.
Welcome to RIDE 4 bud. I do love this game but it doesn’t feel as good as MotoGP and SBK. The bikes are really light and the collisions are really sensitive. Makes it hard to race people online sometimes
I think I've watched this video several times. I'm using an x series controller and I'm now used to the steering that I learned from you. Very helpful! I'm just wondering what refresh rate do you play?
This is my main problem with bike racing. My muscle memory of car sim racing doesn't allow me to lean like you need to for cornering on two wheels SO EARLY. It feels like I'm going to to under shoot the corner, rather than clipping the apex. Also trying to appreciate how much bike brakes don't stop you as much as a car for the similar speed.
The same here mate, I need to use the tuck button in manual, for me the bike is more stable in acceleration when I press it than if it is in automatic, since it has enough delay to activate itself.
Tuck-in is always automatic regardless of your settings, it's definitely not working like intended. (Actually it does impact straight speed so yeah it's working, but driver animation is missing especially on couple DLC bikes i just tested)
@@DrAce46On PS4 it's visually bugged then, quite distracting and immersion breaking to be honest. Pressing the button feels more like using a nitro for extra boost, rather than actually tucking-in.
@@JJ-mz6ed Work works, another thing is that the animation does not. In fact, the moment you accelerate the pilot crouches automatically, so you don't know visually when you're activating it, but this has happened since the game came out.
I feel a bit guilty waiting for a deep sale to buy this game then discovering that it's so beautiful. I don't usually do that but WOW I truly love this game. I've only played for about 40min so far and I'm still using most of the assists but it already feels so good. Looking forward to having control like you're demonstrating here. I bought it for $9AUD and i feel so dirty but ill buy some dlc. (I think that's about 5 pence in your money🤓)
It's crazy how much control and how smooth you are. I see my issues now tho. Trying way to hard to ride the bike like I'm racing a car, my turn in was to late. Swapping to semi auto so you can use rear brake also seems like big improvement to my very bad braking issues. I hate how tight the brake is compared to RIMS Racing tho, that game really allow you to trail with the rear brake. Excited to put in some practice and try and cath your lap times !👌🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾 Thank you
Rims turns way too slowly , if they addressed that &nimproved the graphics , it'd be near perfect (although easy is way to difficult) , definitely the best physics though
I have been so used to the weight transfer being on L1 I REFUSED to change it. I finally changed it, and it feels so much better. Idk why I'm so stubborn 🤣
I can't recommend stick extensions and precision rings enough, I improved so much after a couple of hours of using them, I am on PC so I use an Xbox style controller, but on PS trigger extensions will help a ton aswell. I also recommend reWASD, it has the option to map trigger presses so you can have a more progressive brake and throttle input.
It is decent once getting the control. Leaning only on straights is the best advice here though. Braking hard then easing out through the corner is perfectly right too, helps massively. You can fly round the tracks once getting those right. Feels impossible at first 🤣 I struggled because I am a biker and the rear brake and front are backwards, you'd NEVER use front brake while going round a bend! You'd be over the handle bars! Always use the rear brake while cornering, this game doesn't seem to know that which is odd
I would rather have the right stick for throttle and triggers for breaking. Having both the front break and throttle on the same side just makes more sense
Fantastic video. Thanks so much for the attention to detail. My problem is if I have transmission on semi automatic and try to do the downshifting myself, the game automatically sometimes shifts a split second before me, and my thumb is already shifting as well, resulting in the bike being two gears lower- rather than one. It seems to me that manually downshifting when Transmission is set on semi automatic means that to avoid problems you always have to be down shifting a split second earlier than the game automatically would. Correct? I keep finding myself being in a lower gear than I want to be because of this double down shifting. My only solution has been to go back to Manual Transmission and do the up-shifting as well. Don't you sometimes find the game automatically screwing up your downshifting? Also, is there really a need to keep the analog button pushed forward on the straights if you're using manual tuck? I don't see any difference in speed if the analog is not pushed forward on the straights - as long as I keep the tuck button pressed. Thanks again for a great video. It made me a subscriber. Hope you will be doing videos on TT Isle of Man 3 when it comes out in May. Developers of RIMS Racing will be doing it this time.
Oops. I just watched it again and you mention that the analog stick doesn't affect the speed as long as the Tuck button is pressed. So there really is no need to push the analog button forward while on the straights (as long as the Tuck button is pressed).
Bought the game yesterday on sale for ps5. Got pretty frustrated but look forward to trying your tips later! Also, can you play this game with a racing wheel? 😅
Got this today was on ride 2 all the time was surprised how different the on helmet camera was I shall use a couple of your hints although think the full games wasted on me all I do is nordschleife lol concentration levels have to be on all the time brutal when your 6 mins in and hit a track limit lol
Hey man great video! Just wondering though what button you use for shifting down? I might have missed it at the start.. Also you said semi automatic would be best for starting out is it? Cheers
Thanks mate, I use R1 as downshift 👍🏻 I would always recommend new players start with the semi automatic. My tactic was to let the game do the upshifts and then learn the downshifts first with the aid of semi automatic 👍🏻
6:10 imo, this is really the crux of a lot of problems with bike games, the developers and ultimately probably most people that play the games that have never riden a real bike. I think it could be helped massively if they change how the bike is controlled, because at the end of the day, the bike rides itself (demonstrated nicely in a lot of experiments and riding tutorials). The key is really rider positioning and weight shifting/leaning. One way would be to make the player shift the weight via the R1/R2 which not only would put emphasis on preparing for the corner, on top of that, it would allow for a sort of asymmetric analog stick calibration that reduces the input sensitivity for the opposite corner side, since you never turn 90° to the left when you're in a right hand corner. Anyway, good tutorial
@@DrAce46 no, i think you misunderstood. Im talking a different implementation of the controls, and by extension maybe even the physics, by developers. Besides, pausing the game between every corner is obviously not very practical. Im talking different calibration depending on whether the rider sits central on the bike or shifted to one side. I dont know if you ride IRL, but if you scoot your butt over to one side (lets say right side), it's almost difficult to turn the bike left because it naturally wants turn/lean right. This could be translated into a bike game by tapping the right shoulder button (for a right hand turn), which then changes the left stick range to an asymmetric calibration, where the left range is drastically reduced, yet still allows for some line change without standing the bike up. On corner exit, the player taps the opposite shoulder button and the rider moves back central on the bike and the control are now symmetric again. But nevermind. It's just unfortunate developers dont seem to think about this at all
@@fetB yeah I still don’t really understand bud. The devs have optimised the controls for what’s available and I think it’s sufficient for the majority of gamers. I think what you’re looking for is extremely niche and sadly probably not likely to be Implemented
Sorry Doc, you should be explaining how the Electronics work. Once I turned up Engine Brake to 3 and Anti Wheelie down to 1, I haven't touched the weight transfer since🎉
Game seems really really technical and hard to master. I’m seriously considering getting it when it goes on sale. It looks so good that i have no problem learning how to play it
It is and it isn’t, as long as you understand that you must brake earlier than cats and the bikes handle differently you’ll be fine. Just need to spend time to practice. I can assure it’s extremely rewarding though! 🔥
Thank you for making this video, you seem pretty knowledgeable. I do have a question for ya, when racing online I cannot use my m1000RR that I purchased with my points. But other racers are using that same exact bike! So I always have to use the Ducati or fire blade? Why isn’t my BMW bike available in that class???
(A hint for those who use manual transmission, without jolt brakes) I recommend switching rear brakes to R1, so you can downshift during hard braking. I just move my index finger from R2 throttle to R1 when ever i need rear brakes.
@@DrAce46 Yep, actually i think this a must if you plan to use manual gears. Also i use L1 to tuck-in; which basically means that whenever i'm either braking into or accelerating from a corner, my index fingers simply move from: L1 > L2 / from tuck-in to braking R1 > R2 / hard braking at corner entry to controlling throttle. This setup allows your right thumb to up- and downshift, rewind and control the free camera to look around.
Top stuff as always 🔥 can you do one for moto go 22 struggling to get the bike to turn in quick , the input seems slower than ride 4 😩 tried various bike settings but can’t make it much better ,
Picked up Ride 4 + DLCs in sale. Was thinking left stick same as you, right stick forward = throttle, back = front brake, left trigger = clutch, right trigger = rear brake, shoulder buttons = up/down shift. Would this work well??
Do you have any bike setup tips for getting more grip on the rear tyre? at most tracks the rear tyre slides so much leading me to highsides and crashes overall
I’m hoping it’s just my poor skill but I just can’t get the smooth motion with the analog stick, the throttle and break I can get bang on, even when I’m pushing someone round a corner but for example the double apex corner on mongelo, I just can’t stay leaning right and end up having to double lean
You might be going too fast if you can’t hold the line. Try coming off the power if you’re going to deep into the corners. Arriabiata 1 and 2 can be done by lifting off the analogue stick a small amount and then going back on the right
Don’t worry about anything in real life bud, it’s best to just get a feel for it in the game. You can pretty much full throttle the smaller bikes sometimes without any issues as well
Man..i swear..i Tried the smooth motion and I just can't do it..I still flick it....I don't know how to loose that...I guess I allways played like that and now it's difficult to loose it.
The key is using a "rolling" style technique where you point the stick at an angle and slowly move it to lean the rider over, i personally use a kontrol freek stick extender and it helps quite a lot with smooth bike control.
Okay what is the greenhouse means in the game I have no idea I didn't explain any of that to me I'm on part 1 of the game first thing you jump in I can't use any of my own bikes I have almost all the bikes from the free packs I can't use any of them I have to use the bikes to give to me if I don't know what the house means in the corner of the game because it never explained anything when jumped in do you need help me please Also I can't do any of the time trials because I can't I can't use my own bikes was kind of being upgraded more less Max because I was doing one level over and over and over and getting silver silver like all the time
It’s a garage symbol. Meaning you don’t own the bike. Whatever bike you buy in the dealership or get given will have the garage symbol on for certain career mode events. This means you can you use your own bikes rather than rented
Does this game not have advanced controller options? I want to change the smoothness of my triggers cause both brake and gas go to 100% when the triggers are just half way squeezed and I didn't understand what I was doing wrong when coming off the throttle or going on the brakes because I thought I wasn't giving it that much when in reality it was all the way.
On Ride 3 I can get consistent 6:32's on the Nurburgring so I assumed Ride 4 would be the same. Nope. Seems to me that the physics are completely different. The game seems a little more like the GP series. (Edit) I'm a dummy. I forgot to turn off the assists. Now the game feels fine.
@@DrAce46 Ride 3 I was able to dive bomb the ai into corners no problem. The bikes in 4 seem to be on ice if you don't have the proper speed into corners. Great game otherwise.
I'm a very causal player. Is there any way to play this game more simply or should I give up on buying? even now on Steam's 75% off sale will I regret it?
There are a few accessibility options that can make the game easier. Such as auto brakes but the game does offer a learning curve. However a rewarding learning curve at that
The game is pretty fucking hard I wont lie, but the learning curve is realllly fast. You'll suck more than you can imagine for about 10-15 hours and then you'll get way better
How about Ride 5? Can't find any option to turn auto tuck-in off. So this controlling technique I learned from you is not the best now in ride 5. Any tip?
My pleasure, to be honest I actually like how it’s not a feature anymore. I relied on using it too much so I’m glad to have that obsession with using it taken away from me 😂
It’s the traction control mate. The electronic aid for how much power is applied to the acceleration. The higher the aid the less power you have in the tyre. If you want more feeling reduce the TCS
I'm playing RIDE4 for more than 15 hours I'm an amateur playing motoGP22 for more than 200 hours and set some preety time records but I can't finish the European license event in career mode in RIDE4 I have tried it more than 50 times but I can't finish the event in atleast the third place . It's more frustrating I can't enjoy the game. At last I have checked it with my phone's stop watching the result was shoking as per the stopwatch timing I have finished it at a good time which is just 200 milli seconds different from first place. Please help me with this issue Bro I can't enjoy gaming it makes me more frustrated
I hate this game so much.... bought it Sunday and ai on the easiest the always ride me of my bike or they fly past me in the corners!!! I never once came 1st in 5 frikkin hours of play. To me this game is a waste of money
Yeah, unfortunately this game was a waste of money for me. I definitely will not be playing again is the most frustrating game I have ever tried to play in my entire life of playing video games. I love bikes in real life so I thought I’d give this game a try but holy shit there’s no way I’ve heard people say they’ve been playing for 5-6-7-8 hours and still can’t get the controls down there’s no way I’m investing that kind of time to even begin to be just OK at the game. Wish this game had a tutorial or literally any guide because damn this is a terrible first experience for a game
I greatly improve my bike control quite simply by maintaining a steady 20 miles per hour round the track 👍

Hey it's on a deep deep discount right now on steam at least for me here in the US
This is such a clear video 👍
Thank you for making this video, you seem pretty knowledgeable. I do have a question for ya, when racing online I cannot use my m1000RR that I purchased with my points. But other racers are using that same exact bike! So I always have to use the Ducati or fire blade? Why isn’t my BMW bike available in that class???
Is it upgraded to match the points of the class selected?
(A hint for those who use manual transmission, without jolt brakes)
I recommend switching rear brakes to R1, so you can downshift during hard braking.
I just move my index finger from R2 throttle to R1 when ever i need rear brakes.
Hmm interesting technique, I don’t think I could get on with that though 😂 I may give it a try though
@@DrAce46 Yep, actually i think this a must if you plan to use manual gears.
Also i use L1 to tuck-in; which basically means that whenever i'm either braking into or accelerating from a corner, my index fingers simply move from:
L1 > L2 / from tuck-in to braking
R1 > R2 / hard braking at corner entry to controlling throttle.
This setup allows your right thumb to up- and downshift, rewind and control the free camera to look around.
Top stuff as always 🔥 can you do one for moto go 22 struggling to get the bike to turn in quick , the input seems slower than ride 4 😩 tried various bike settings but can’t make it much better ,
I did recently make one for MotoGP But I can look into making another 👍🏻👍🏻
@@DrAce46 thanks ace 🔥🔥🔥🏍
Can you do that with ride 5 as well please? Thank you very much!
Yes mate, I’ve got guides coming very soon 👍🏻
@@DrAce46 thank you!!
Wish you've shared more gamepad and bike control settings
I don’t change any of the controller or bike settings, everything is set to default
Are you able to adjust the sensitivity of the controller? Great video.
Not that I’m aware of
@DrAce46 Thanks for the reply. Your video help me tremendously. Played last night and wow what a difference. Thank you for the video learned a LOT!
Love it nice job explaining it thanks
You're welcome, glad it helped :D
This game is a learning curve like no other game.
Actually more like a learning cliff..on fire covered with snakes.
Haha it’s not that hard 😂
THANK YOU so much
You're welcome!
Nice riding 👍
Thanks mate
What controller is best/worth for PC to play these games? Budget up to 75$
If ride 4 had Isle of Man 2 controller feedback it would be just peachy
I’ve still not played the 2nd Isle of Man game.. I have it just not played it 😂
Picked up Ride 4 + DLCs in sale. Was thinking left stick same as you, right stick forward = throttle, back = front brake, left trigger = clutch, right trigger = rear brake, shoulder buttons = up/down shift. Would this work well??
Try it and find out
SUBBED. thank you
Do you have any bike setup tips for getting more grip on the rear tyre? at most tracks the rear tyre slides so much leading me to highsides and crashes overall
I'll be honest mate, I don't use any setup in RIDE 4. I would advise increasing the Traction control or start feathering the throttle
@@DrAce46 alright, Thanks
Top notch guide
Thanks mate!
What do you think about setting rear brake in RS down TuckIn in R3 and GearUp in RS up and GearDown in RS left
Sounds terrible mate 😂 it’s not something I would use lol
@@DrAce46 🥺😢 you hurt my feelings bro 😅😅😅
@@positivelycurvedpikachu haha sorry bud
I’m hoping it’s just my poor skill but I just can’t get the smooth motion with the analog stick, the throttle and break I can get bang on, even when I’m pushing someone round a corner but for example the double apex corner on mongelo, I just can’t stay leaning right and end up having to double lean
You might be going too fast if you can’t hold the line. Try coming off the power if you’re going to deep into the corners. Arriabiata 1 and 2 can be done by lifting off the analogue stick a small amount and then going back on the right
I downloaded this game yesterday because it’s sale but bro it’s hard to control and I’m always bang into the concrete lol
It can be difficult to get used to especially if you come from a car background for example. Just remember to brake much earlier and take your time 🔥
With automatic braking riders were rear ending me and killing me on one track lol
What is your X button for? Rear brake? 😅
Tuck in mate 👍🏻
As far as i know u suppesed to use 40-60% of acceleration with 40-60% of break preassure for trailbraking IRL
Is it works in RIDE4?
Don’t worry about anything in real life bud, it’s best to just get a feel for it in the game. You can pretty much full throttle the smaller bikes sometimes without any issues as well
@@DrAce46 ok, got it. Thx!
Trying real life stuff because cant ride (winter is here).
P.s. we need gearbox mod! (1-N-2-3... 😁)
What is the function of button 'X'? I remember set up defaults is rear brake.
Mine is set to tuck in 👍🏻
what riding style do you use
balanced or broad shoulder?
Shoulders out
Is there a reason why you don’t take the revs to redline? Something to do with the torque or something?
I’ve just realised you said you did auto upshift.. I like to redline the bikes ha ha
I do use manual on MotoGP 22 and SBK 22 but I don’t tend to redline that often 😂
@@nxiss wow..ok....ill see where I can find those here...because I think that could be the issue,I mean the way I move the damn thing.
It’s going to take time mate, just be really gentle with the analogue stick 👍🏻👍🏻
Okay what is the greenhouse means in the game I have no idea I didn't explain any of that to me I'm on part 1 of the game first thing you jump in I can't use any of my own bikes I have almost all the bikes from the free packs I can't use any of them I have to use the bikes to give to me if I don't know what the house means in the corner of the game because it never explained anything when jumped in do you need help me please
Also I can't do any of the time trials because I can't I can't use my own bikes was kind of being upgraded more less Max because I was doing one level over and over and over and getting silver silver like all the time
It’s a garage symbol.
Sadly not no mate
On Ride 3 I can get consistent 6:32's on the Nurburgring so I assumed Ride 4 would be the same. Nope. Seems to me that the physics are completely different. The game seems a little more like the GP series. (Edit) I'm a dummy. I forgot to turn off the assists. Now the game feels fine.
Yeah they are very different RIDE 3 had a lot of understeer and RIDE 4 bikes are very sensitive
@@DrAce46 Ride 3 I was able to dive bomb the ai into corners no problem. The bikes in 4 seem to be on ice if you don't have the proper speed into corners. Great game otherwise.
Riding a bike on a track is easier than this game. lol
@@rondobrondo true story 👍
Good tips but the front brake is actually stronger than the rear front is 70% power
Cheers mate
What controller are you using?
DualShock 4 mate
can i ask how can u have that bike in ride4 ? mine ride ps4 dont event have that bike in list
I think it’s DLC mate
@@DrAce46 thanks 👍
How about Ride 5? Can't find any option to turn auto tuck-in off. So this controlling technique I learned from you is not the best now in ride 5. Any tip?
Only tip I can give is to not push forwards on the straights but everywhere else is the same as this video not including the tuck in button
@@DrAce46 Absolute legend. I will do that. Just got the game and such a shame they removed this function...
My pleasure, to be honest I actually like how it’s not a feature anymore. I relied on using it too much so I’m glad to have that obsession with using it taken away from me 😂
@@DrAce46 Do you prefer Ride 5 now over the previous one?
@@annanishimiya7786 I do 👍🏻
There is no more oversteer in the game?
Just purchased it and every corner is full throttle...
Shouldn’t be full throttle. Do you have TCS on high and are you on pro handling?
@@DrAce46 yeah I found out later the TCS on the inrace menu and now the game is 10x more enjoyable.
Thanks.
Can you explain TCS

Omg iv been watching you for like 3 weeks now and forgot to subscribe 😳 sorry
No problem! Thanks for subscribing!
What does x button do
That’s the tuck in button
Does anyone know if ride 5 is going to be compatible on the steam deck?
It is compatible, I’ve played it on mine 🔥
What does “X” button mean?
manual tuck in
@@DrAce46 thanks! Can you ride from the first person view?
First. Thanks for the tips.
You’re welcome mate 👍🏻👍🏻
How can you play it with a ps5 controller because it is not working
I connect via Bluetooth via Steam
@@DrAce46 ow okey thanks it now works
I bought a usb joystick for ride 4 but for some reason it is not detected on ride 4.
Do I have to use a PS4 joystick?
can anyone solve this problem😭?
Check your steam settings, there’s options for different controller types
Have you ever tried Helmet cam view using this method? that separates the men from the boys because, it`s hard to master.
Yes I have, I have some videos with helmet cam
Maquina 👍
great...
This game is wayyyyy harder than any racing car imo
It’s true 👍🏻
Step 1 - wait until milestone loses all these licenses so we can get a half decent moto game.
👌💯✊
Just got this yesterday 3/18 /23 man been falling off 😅
Sorry to hear that pal. Keep practicing 😁
Im lvl 70 and still trash,😂
Sorry to hear that bud 😩
is more realistic ride 4 then moto gp?..or which one is more difficult?
No, RIDE 4 is more arcade. RIDE 4 is easier
@@DrAce46 whats your favourite,SBK or MotoGp?
SBK 22 at the moment mate, I’m loving it 🔥
Career when bro
Hopefully soon mate, I’ve managed to record some episodes this week👍🏻 sorry for the delay I’m just trying to fit everything in 🔥
I hate this game so much.... bought it Sunday and ai on the easiest the always ride me of my bike or they fly past me in the corners!!! I never once came 1st in 5 frikkin hours of play. To me this game is a waste of money
It just takes practice, if you are familiar with car games you have to adjust your gameplay to two wheels. It’s worth the practice
