Consider that Atom is actually considered ancient by this time in the movie, since all other bots are a few generations ahead. Imagine what a current gen Atom would be like.
This movies a lot like Pacific Rim (the first one). The plot is really easy to understand, it’s not in anyway deep, and is all based around the simple concept of robot fights, yet still it’s amazing to watch.
This movie goes deeper than that, but the nice thing about it is that you can choose your own involvement. If you go into it looking for the robot fights, it's definitely there and done very well. But it's also a story about an estranged parent and child coming together through a shared interest to become closer and discover, then deepen their familial bond. My dad and I both love this movie, and I have no doubt we see a bit of ourselves in these characters.
But critics hate both of them and venom too cause these movies focus on basic fun and don't have this cringe story telling like the new star wars movies

Ever since I saw this movie for the first time in 2011, it has been my all time number 1 favorite movie, Hugh Jackman and everyone else was perfect casting, the storyline was flawless, music was incredible, and the fact that Steven Spielberg helped with this movie just made it even more special for me. The special effects are amazing as well :) best movie ever

As someone who spent his teenage years playing Need for Speed Most Wanted a LOT of times, that song kicking in was a very welcome surprise.
Same, I've played through that game probably 10 times and loved this song everytime it came on
