    During the Benoit stuff Superstar Billy Graham blamed himself for the use of steroids in wrestling.
    He said he was the first professional wrestler to use them and because of the physique they gave him he got a push. Other guys started to take notice of it and asked about it. He told them he was using steroids and other guys started using them too hoping to get the same kind of physique and push.
    That's why all the muscle bound wrestlers started showing up and you were getting less of the chubby guys.

    On a side note, since you mentioned the backup plan for if Vince had gone to jail, do you think that you might be able to give an alternate history theory on if that had actually happened? For example, how the industry would have been affected overall for the next 10 to 20 years?

    • @arthriticpenguin1128
      @arthriticpenguin1128 8 років тому

      ***** I did not know about the Jake Roberts connection. I know that he was the subject of the legendary Austin 3:16 promo, but that was all that I knew on that particular matter. I think that WWE would have fallen into the position that TNA and ROH are in now, where they are an arguably niche product that is too large to be just another indy but too small to be a national power.
      As for overall impact on the wrestling business, I'm not entirely sure how to perceive that. I don't think the wrestling industry would have boomed in the late 1990's, because that was a direct result of the Monday Night War and the rise of ECW. At this point, I believe that it the NWA would have regained prominence, though you'd end up with multiple territories with television or pay per view. WCW still had an incompetent string of managers. I think ECW is a toss up.

  • @nozoto

    I wouldn't mind playing a Total Extreme Wrestling mod where Jerry Jarrett took over Vince's position after the steroid scandal, btw. Or one where the WWF goes bankrupt because Wrestlemania turned out to be a gigantic failure. I am a big fan of these "what if" scenarii.

    • @nozoto
      @nozoto 7 років тому

      If Jerry Jarrett took over, he'd have probably fused the USWA with the WWF to compete against the WCW, not before a purge of the staff members strongly identified to Vince's organization. Some northern style alternative would take the helm of the WWF in the Tri-State because nature hates voids, but I doubt the undetermined promotion would grow to be as big as the WWE of today. The Southern vision of pro-wrestling would prevail, unless some innovator managed to hack his way through JJ's system.

    I think the only reason Vince was let off was due to the fact of Nailz cuz he said he hated Vince so with that being said he was just saying stuff to put Vince out of biz & behind bars also another reason is there was no evidence that Vince was directly giving the roids to his wrestlers so those are the top two reasons that I think

    Bruno Sammartino said that, that's the reason why WWE hires jobbers. They use them as fall-guys whenever shit hits the fan. When Brian Pillman died some pro wrestlers said on the news everyone's goes to Hogan/Mexico for steroids. Because he can teach the game, and how to use steroids as well.

    What would have happened?
    well if ECW would not kickstart the Attitude Era than Bischoff (you know the lesser known Evil CEO) might have, suffice to say that there would be some itteration of attitude era regardless of WWF involvement)
    it would however allow ECW to sink way sooner, possibly to a point when some of their tallent might not be prominent enough to get picked up by WcW or WWF. so Maybe
    Ratings war would happen but maybe not monday night wars. WcW had better tallent at this point but they did have Prichard too so i am assuing they would have gone into simillar problems for first half of 90s, but given that there might not have been monday nights thing there might have been far less contested later 90s. Maybe even to a point of WcW surviving bit longer (depending on who'd run it tho).

    I don't think the attitude era would have happened without Vince. The Attitude era and the nWo years in the WCW were all about spectacle, about storylines and events, not about pure wrestling.

      that was obvious. The People's Elbow and The Worm were two of Anti-Wrestling finishing move. The Rock and Scotty did those things to entertain the fans.
