I'm a typical twenty South Korean guy who living in Seoul. I tell you the truth, most Asian girlfriends/wives who has South Korean boyfriends/husbands are mail-order brides from China and Central or Southeast Asia except for Japanese girlfriends/wives. So We have socially negative prejudices about having non-Korean Asian girlfriends or wives.. So, if you are a Western chick, you can be free from this negative prejudice. And now it's 2019. None of South Koreans bothers you whether you are French, American, Russian, South African or even Mexican.🐻
The problem isn’t the korean men, it’s usually the parents. If you can find a korean man with kind and forward thinking parents, then you’ve won half the battle. My boyfriends parents have been so kind to me and his mom loves asking about me and sending me seaweed 😂❤️ it puts my boyfriend at ease and we are planning the future together
I don't know. Koreans are known for their blunt/brutal honesty. If they don't like someone or something they pretty much make it known if asked. Unless it's about an elder or boss then they won't say anything. Lol
Would've been nice to see 1 opposing view point, a traditionalist who wasn't necessarily opposed to it but was much more interested in marrying and dating within his culture/ethnicity.
Nothing is wrong with dating Korean men, but some of you are fetishizing them!!! Soon as you see a cute Korean man, you're asking for their Instagram information or wanting to go to Korea. Stop being so damn desperate!!
Wanting to follow an attractive person isn't fetishization. Even having a preference for a certain racial group isn't fetishization. As long as you aren't acting like a psycho I don't see the problem.
Crystella I was thinking the same thing! I see this all the time within the same racial or cultural group as well. I know the word fetish is becoming more and more used nowadays, but a cute guy or lady is just that, cute! And I like to look at cute things! 🤷🏽♀️
You really can’t get mad at any of their answers it’s what they prefer and you have to respect that, also dating internationally isn’t bad, If it is meant to be it would work out.
Jaejoongwife08 LOL you're wrong, they do make peace. Haven't you heard of historical Stories where a woman in a different tribe/race marries a guy from another tribe/race so that their people can get along?
@@maya_jones3411 oh, that's true. Think of all the political marriages that happened in feudal or Medieval Times.. and even up into modern times in some countries, that were intentioned to keep peace between countries. To add to that, while I studied International Studies at University for my major, including the history of racism and racial stereotypes in the United States against black and Asian Americans, I had the opportunity to do a brief study on International /Intercultural marriages within the United States. Statistically, those who enter into and international or Intercultural marriage will have to focus much more in their relationship on communication to overcome language boundaries and cultural differences. They typically will have a much greater level of Tolerance and understanding between one another for this reason. These couples spend more time figuring out how to do peaceful conflict resolution due to the differences, and because in Asian cultures divorce is not highly accepted, and there are still stereotypes and stigmas against it, the focus is on keeping the family unit together and operating cohesively. Keeping a family together peacefully and functionally is also considered by Asian men to be a mark of masculinity. It's kind of a masculine pride thing to be able to lead your family harmoniously and successfully. Also statistically, based on Pew research, international couples who are married in the United States between an Asian person and a white person have the highest income and highest educational background of all newlywed couples in the United States. They may get married a little bit later in their life, but they are much more prepared for that Union in regards to having stable careers, income stream, and educational background to support them. This may also contribute to reasons why these International couples focus more on communication and peaceful conflict resolution. Having a greater educational background would certainly contribute to this. As an example, my boyfriend of 4 years is from South Korea. Both of my parents are very highly educated in their fields with a psych doctor's degree, and a Masters and two Specialty degrees in education,.. so it is in my background to understand about conflict resolution, and emphasis on the importance of positive communication and coping strategies for stress. In my relationship with my boyfriend there have been many times we have had to deal with cultural differences or times of potential conflict where things could have blown up to be much worse, but because we have worked very hard on how we communicate and express ourselves positively toward one another in order to support one another, it has not turned into a negative. We have both worked very hard on understanding one another, where we are coming from when we think a certain way or do something, that perhaps culturally might not be the norm for the other person. It's been a very interesting experience LOL and we are still dating, but based on previous long term relationships I have had, this relationship has caused me to focus much more on communication, conflict resolution , and fostering understanding, than any other I have been in. When I was married to a white guy for 9 years, it was easy to assume we understood each other and could read each other's minds because we came from the same cultural background and assumed we had the same expectations. Even though that was not the case as far as same expectations all the time, those things were not communicated because there was no reason to specifically emphasize it in the relationship. But when you naturally have many differences like in international relationships, you're really forced to focus on those differences and figure out how you bridge them, understand them, Or cope with them.
@@maya_jones3411 no it does not make peace it would be nice but, if it was true why don't we have peace now? Depending how an international couple is it can also cause problems especially when they break up. Not for all but a lot.
I was expecting a lot of them to say no to international marriage based on what I’ve hear from friends but it’s nice to see them so open to it! As long as you love each other and can communicate well, there shouldn’t be a problem! 💕
Can communicate well ? If you don't speak a little bit of korean, they won't consider marriage. The problem is that korean guys think that the girl should learn their language, but they won't learn yours. Also korean boys are very gentleman until marriage, almost all my korean friends (girls) are saying that after marriage, they change and they act as if he's your parent by telling you to cook (like a slave), stay at home, what to wear... Maybe some of them are not like that but mostly of them do. Sad.
daisy liqiu // communicate well meaning both individuals are fully fluent in Korean or English or at least know enough Korean or English to understand each other! I believe in a past video, one of them were saying the girl understood Korean but could not speak it well and vice versa for her boyfriend who could only understand English rather than speak it but they could still understand each other! It isn’t the most ideal situation, but in time they may become more fluent with opposing languages! // it’s unfortunate however to hear that they begin to treat their wives in that manner once they become married :( a lot but not all of men over the world have that mentality so I try not to generalize it to just Korean men!
baz360turn Not everyone can speak english (fluently or not), I mean i'm vietnamese-french myself. If my boyfriend was from another country then I hope that he will do the same effort as I am to learn his language, vice-versa. In Korea, mostly I see guys who thinks that girls must learn their language or english. That's just unfair.
daisy liqiu // I can see where you are coming from but I guess I believe that if you are serious about someone you want to love, marry, and spend the rest of your life with than learning another language is only a small barrier! If it was meant to be a casual hookup scenario then that would be different because you barely know the person. Another reason why I can see where they are coming from is that, it is their country! If we are coming to live in their hometown and are expected to fit into society, communicate with their family in the future, and mostly likely get work if you live there together, you’ll need to know Korean to get by! It’s very similar to how a lot of Americans expect foreigners to speak English when they come to America or at least learn it in the future! I don’t want to come off as combative, just hoping you see my side of view and perspective! At the end of the day, it is only my opinion and you are allowed to have yours! I hope you can agree on that at least! :)
I'm mixed race, communication is #1 in any relationship. Although these guys are quite open I still very concerned about the student bullying culture in Korea and how hard a time the mixed-race children will have in school. Furthermore, Korea must, get the bullying rates down significantly, condemning it harshly and not just worrying about it, thereby they perpetuate it.
@@김도진-x2t I agree. Korea even now is still very homogeneous but it's changing slowly. There's bullying everywhere. I agree that they should punish it heavily as to not make it seem like it's something you can get away with. I'm mixed, my dad is Spanish and Mexican and my mom is Irish and American. I am enrolling in SNU as an international student and I was really worried about how I'd get treated. I visited Seoul last year and it was really pleasant. I think a big way to earn respect too is to at least speak a little Korean because they appreciate the effort :)
Scarlett MinJi if someone even tried to bully me or my non existent kids I would have to throw hands and trust me that wouldn’t be good for either of us
I mean i dont know if my opinion matters anyways, but me and my man (he's korean, i'm austrian) are planning on raising our future children in austria because of that (and ofc other reasons as well). Its pretty harsh in SK school system and he doesnt want his children to experience the same as he did! And since we have a choice, we will go back to austria when its time :)
@@TheSanraphael My hubby is Austrian. I'm training to be a teacher because I want to help fight this is in Korean schools. If you two are praying people maybe yall could keep me in mind for the coming years...😊🐱🏍
I personally don't care where you're from. As long as you are nice, cute, treat me and my family right, have aspirations, and we can communicate on an average level. I'm good. Fate is fate and I don't have a strict preference.
My husband family is korean. He was born here in the states but she was very adamant about him marrying a korean girl even arranged a marriage for him 😂😂😂 though we met while serving in the army. It took some time but ultimately she gave up because love conquers all. I’ve been in this family for 15 years and I’m the only surviving daughter in law 😂😂😂. I chilled the entire time while this went on, minding my business because it wasn’t my battle to fight. He stopped talking to her but the way I was raised, I made them talk to each other and work out their differences. Now, she can’t get enough out of us and the grandkids, even MAKING me learn how to cook korean food for her when she comes over. I stay in the kitchen I swear!!
I'm glad you Handel the matter graceful and tactfully, it's easier to get caught up in our feelings in such cases...and now she sees you purely as family ☺, hope someday I'll be so lucky but Black +Gay= likely more tricky with Asian families lol
Domonique Fuller yeah that’s a bit more tricky but love conquers all!! I say it all the time and mean it. Is your hate worth losing a child or love one? It’s really not. Hate derives from fear. Keep each other close and it will work our for the better for both of you.
Yaaas girl, I love that you made them both talk. It's funny that the cultures that probably know the least about each other - Asian, black (or African, which I know isn't the same as African American, hope I'm not offending anyone with my ignorance lol), Middle Eastern - are the most similar. Hearty homecooked food (especially rice-based meals, at least for Asians, Middle Easterns and Africans, idk about African American) and family (the whole damn extended family lol) are so so important to us. We're truly way more similar than we know. I only realised this after coming to London as an Asian girl and getting exposed to other cultures for the first time in my life.
fluffytomato that’s true we are more similar than we realize most African middle eastern and Asian families have stricter style of parenting and put a lot of emphasis on school and becoming g successful. Plus we all make some amazing food
ChoNun HangookSaram I didn’t see this until now but thank you. Assuming I have the same profile picture I did when you commented this, it’s from the artist PixyLiao. I really love her Experimental Relationship series, and I recommend anyone reading this comment to check it out :)
When getting in an interracial relationship be careful about people who have fetishization. Especially my Asian men and women. There’s people who fetishize about being with Asian women because they are thought to be submissive and do anything for their husbands. And with the men women fetishize them because of KPOP, I’ve seen and heard plenty of people say they only like Korean men because of Kpop artists. But just in general any relationship just be careful about that because they might not be with you for the right reasons
That's true because my Korean friend (a guy) was dating this black girl (not generalizing, she just happened to be black it could have been anyone) dated him because she's into kpop and because he's korean. She later was giving out her number or asking for Korean guy's numbers at the bar he works in (a korean bar), and then she dumped him for another korean guy she thought was more handsome than him. It really hurt his feelings because he felt used. People like that make me so mad! I mean some Korean guys are not even that cute, don't even know what the fuss is. It's just like any other race they are some cute and some not cute.
BTS YoongiMa I know nothing of Kpop or anything of the culture. Meeting Asian or Chinese they have just been nice An loving. I want to date someone of that culture because I find them intelligent 🤓 An well organized most of the time. I am a full blown Africa American female 😂 I just do not see them seeing interest in me...
Don't take this the wrong way at all, I'm not fetishizing Korean men. However, I would like to date someone from South Korea. I'm not saying that because I'm into Kpop, but because I love Korean culture as a whole. I do tons of reading on everything about South Korea, and I am studying their language and history as well. Kpop and kdramas are fun for me, but I've really come to appreciate so many aspects of South Korea. The nation has flaws like any other country or society, but there are aspects that I truly find fascinating. Not a lot of people who are around me are interested in it and don't like it when I talk about it, so I would be interested to live in South Korea someday to be able to talk about it more freely with people, and to find guys to date who would understand what I'm talking about and not get annoyed with me wanting to have discussions about certain things to do with either history or politics or culture in South Korea. So far in my experience I've only come across one other guy who wasn't Korean who enjoyed talking about it with me due to his own interest in the culture as well and I was attracted to him, but he already had a girlfriend so I wasn't going to try and pursue anything with him. Lol I find Kpop stars super hot, but to be honest I'm not attracted to guys like that in terms of relationships. So for me it doesn't have anything to do with fetishes, and a lot to do with interests. If I find a guy who doesn't mind talking about Korean culture who isn't Korean, then I would be down to date him too.
Great video guys! when I heard about the Romanian girlfriend I was like OMG!!!! there are many Romanians that are interested and want to visit Korea. (me included) Maybe we're not that popular worldwide but we're great people so I will be happy to share about my culture while learning about the Korean culture when I'll be visiting :)
I cracked up at the part about the Romanians eating bread 😂 As a fellow Romanian girl I have to admit, we love our bread. Mixed marriages seem difficult sometimes, but with an open mind both sides can learn a lot. It would be interesting dating a Korean guy.
Tokuz Oghuz before you comment something like this be educated on the matter. Romanians are not gypsy idiot and also is considered racists to call someone gypsy as an insult
Tokuz Oghuz and also just so you know, you uneducated person gypsy people came to Europe from India, which is in Asia 1000 years ago. They came all over Europe, but most of them stayed in Romania
Tokuz Oghuz first of all is Romanians. And second of all I don’t know what kind of history book you read, but I wasn’t surely about the origins of gypsys. They came from northern India and where named gypsys because people thought they resembled Egyptians
haha the guy dating the Romanian. Romanians eat bread like Koreans eat rice. I am a Romanian engaged to a Korean and I actually like rice more than bread. My boyfriend doesn't have that problem hahaha
Rebecca i think i would be able to find a job as a teacher. I have an acquaintance who worked as a kindergarten teacher and she was Romanian. So there are possibilities. I’ll find a way 😂
Prima oară când aud si eu despre Romania Doamneee cat am așteptat Si cred ca ei au impresia ca se scrie rumania pentru ca ei exact asa pronunța..rumania Mi s a întâmplat si mie exact la fel cu un coreean
This is what I do not understand about some woman of color, why do you care if a group of men does not want to date a black woman .i have seen lots of videos with that kind of thing, and it does not bother me at all, because I, would not give them the time of day either. Some black woman needs to stop acting so desperate and start loving yourselves .stop, allowing the system to continue my you see your self for less than what you are. Self-Love and self-care is the most important thing, once you start taking care of you and build your self-esteem you will see the world for what it is ,the rest of the world has pre-judge us as bad, stupid and ugly and it is because we let them by looking for acceptance from them when we should not.
@@angellag9373 not sure how you got all of that from my response, but I'm definitely not a pick me by any sense of the imagination. I don't look to any race over another specifically for a relationship
If I married a foreigner, I'm sure that I would just have a wedding with his family wherever they want. My parents are divorced and my family is a mess, so I think trying to set up a second wedding for my side would just make me stressed and unhappy.
I would love to have two weddings one because my family is okay, and two because we know how to party!! I mean Mexican weddings are always so fun, unless you have that drunk uncle. Thankfully I don't, but if I did my family will kick them out asap to keep the party going.
Wall,we Romanians we do eat a lot of bread 🤭 But we like to discover other cultures too and also to show our culture. If we like it it's good,if not ,it is also good. The same is with foreigners. 😊( I am thinking seriously to try moving to Korea soon all by my self🤭🤭).😍😍 2 wedding ceremonies sound the best solution, at least just to enjoy the traditions from both countries. 😉 About where to live after,🤔hmm...can't be said until you are not in the exact situation. It depends on many factors but for sure it will be a solution. If love, respect and understanding exist, solutions are easy to find. In conclusion, mixed marriage should not be an issue, important is to have a happy life together. 😊
Koreans also like bread. I eat a lot of toast for breakfast. You can make it at home or buy it outside. Of course, stocks eat rice. Bread has been eaten for a long time. I do not eat bread for 3 meals a day. I eat it for breakfast and snacks. But there are people who really like rice. In Korea, it has become internationalized, so Korea, Europe, the United States, Mexico, Turkey, etc. It is mixed. Koreans also like cheese. I eat a variety of Korean food with cheese.
I'm actually learning Korean and at the moment I'm learning nationalities and I loved how i could understand the word Japanese, Chinese, Russian, American, etc.
While I’ve always dreamed of dating an Asian person I’m really leaving it up to fate. If it happens it happens. I’ll be happy. Either way if it isn’t. I’d still love to be opening and accepting with cultural differences even if it means someone who’s just white or something. I really think there’s a bond when two people work together and do their best to understand each other and culture!
My Korean bf and I of almost 3 years will be getting married next month. We met in Hongdae while I was studying at KU for the the summer of 2016. He recently got his fiance visa, so we will be living in Texas first and maybe later move to Seoul. ❤
There were so many right answers being said in this video! All across the board! They all seemed real genuine in their responses and thought about the questions before they answered them. This interview has me all the way #snatched 😍 #teamdenimshirtguy

I loved this video! My experience of dating my Korean boyfriend is a bit uncommon as we met in America (not Korea). I don't know if it is just my bf's parents, or people nowadays but they were so welcoming of me when I visited Korea! His mom is always asking how I have been and she is always recommending kdramas to me (bc she knows I love kdramas). These days international relationships are more common and I love it! I love sharing my culture and learning about my bf's culture. Of course there can be cultural differences that create misunderstandings, but once those things are overcome, if you match, then you match!

He’s the love of my life and I’m lucky his family likes me ❤️💕 he has lived in America since he was 6 years old so we both communicate in English to each other ! AND we have two handsome sons.
The language can be barrier but there's always going be tutors teaching Korean or English or any other languages. As long you are kind, smart and know what you want in relationship that's all matters =) and everything else later. You would definately fit in Greece! So it would be great to experience greek culture and of course it would be great for greeks to experience korean calture!! I am already in the process of learning korean
I like the fact that some do not care about the country and are so thoughtful about the "spouse". Having two weedings would be always the best choice. And yes language barrier is always a problem but If you like the person you put some effort to learn the language even a little bit to be able to enjoy the relationship. I hope they can all experience a relationship with someone abroad. 🤗🤗💕
I'd like to go to Korea to experience the culture, but even just for a holiday I'd like to learn the language at least 40% preferably more than just 40%. I'm fluent in Norwegian and English, and it'd be fun to be fluent in Korean so that if I met a guy we could actually communicate well.
Is there a girl version of this? And you guys should ask more questions in terms of like if koreans would date latinx or black people.. Everything answered here seems more like towards just Asia.. As a guy and latino born in the US, I want to know if Korea could be a destination to look for a girlfriend potentially
my fiancé is korean, and his parents loves me, they are truly the best. it also made me try my best to learn korean so i can communicate with them more, since they cannot speak english. i even learned how to cook korean food.
6:12 "Regarding the body type, no.1 Chinese, no.2 American, and no.3 Russian." I find it interesting how Koreans (and Japanese) very often talk about Americans if they are one homogeneous group. Americans are "this" and "that", when it comes to many things, most remarkably looks, despite the fact that America is the country of immigrants from all over the world, and therefore very diverse in all respects. I wonder what an "American body type" is. Currently 70 % of American women are either overweight or obese, and another 10 % is extremely obese (according to data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey of 2013-14). The most dire predictions say 85 % of Americans will be overweight or obese by 2030. Is that what the guy in the video means when he talks about the American body type?
Great video, I really appreciated the thoughtful responses. Little by little things seem to be changing, just a year ago it would have been difficult to find guys willing to actually marry a foreigner. We were just in Paris and it seems like a number of the Korean guys there on holiday were actually looking around at foreign girls unlike before when I’d been there and they ignored all girls completely.

I'm Turkish and dating a Korean more than 1.5 years. I was studying there, we met in school. We both speak English fluently. First we didn't think it would continue after I return Turkey but we were really getting along well and kept the relationship. We both do a lot of sacrifices for our relationship. We tried to travel every 3 months to see each other. My boyfriend came to Turkey and stayed with my family in our house. My mom literally LOVES him. She doesn't speak English well but she tries to text him time to time in English. And my boyfriend tries to answer in Turkish as I'm teaching him. However, his family is super against our relationship. Parents are in 50's and the father has a clinic in Gangnam. You can say that they are an upper-income family who have been educated well yet they don't want a "foreigner bride". I haven't met them yet. My boyfriend always gets stressed about talking to his parents about me and actually he didn't tell them that he was coming to Turkey, 2 different times. I don't really understand. Our cultures are very similar actually. I eat anything Koreans eat. My boyfriend eats everything Turkish eat. We are trying to learn each other's language because it's easier to translate Korean-Turkish rather than using English. We both respect elderly in similar ways. The language is grammatically similar and we have that polite way of speaking. Both countries are considered as typical Eastern culture with some modern approach these days. Yet the parents, especially the mother, don't even give me a chance or search about my culture to see it's actually not that different from theirs. P.S: The world has more mobility than ever, so international marriages are increasing a lot. And we have more opportunities to understand each other's background and culture, I don't really get why would marrying a foreigner be an issue?
the guy with the black shirt, and the one with the black and red shirt are so cute :( they both said all, and said they would have their marriages in both countries. Can I get a yay for them, lol.
@@celinec.1582 you just described how the majority of Latinos are when they are married... 🙅 😞
It's getting better I would say. Since We South Koreans used to be live with non-Koreans.

There should be a vid asking the parents whether they would be ok with a foreigner marrying their son/daughter.
@@jikookandvminallshipsilove6426 Amen to that ,and thanks for the wisdom ☺

Last time I was in Seoul I saw lots of international couples in Gangnam (probably because that's where the most attractive Koreans live lol).

@Rebecca right that's too funny😂 even if i speak korean right in front of them they would still talk about me😂 it's funny i don't mean it in a bad way
They’re so cool and considerate, especially the older guy.
Both sides have to be careful. There are quite a few that will only look at you as a foreigner and dump you later.
There is nothing you can do if youre really attracted to a certain type of person, but yes fetishizing is utterly disgusting.

As a Dominican/Italian woman, sadly not surprised at the responses..... dark skin women are never a response for Korean men
This is what I do not understand about some woman of color, why do you care if a group of men does not want to date a black woman .i have seen lots of videos with that kind of thing, and it does not bother me at all, because I, would not give them the time of day either.

6:12 "Regarding the body type, no.1 Chinese, no.2 American, and no.3 Russian."
I find it interesting how Koreans (and Japanese) very often talk about Americans if they are one homogeneous group.
Good luck to you!
the guy with the black shirt, and the one with the black and red shirt are so cute :( they both said all, and said they would have their marriages in both countries. Can I get a yay for them, lol.
