It's such a useful tool, i don't understand why they didn't just keep it as default shift + f? I use it for almost all of my projects with gravity enabled to walk around my scene and get a good sense of scale
> i don't understand why they didn't just keep it as default shift + f They changed _all_ of the keybinds with 2.8. There's a legacy 2.7X keybinds preset in the settings if you want to go back for some reason.

It's on Shift Tilde because that F key is important for modelling, as that adds a face. As the program is primarily for modelling, that was more important.
It's amazing how rudimentary part of old game engine idea is one of the most useful tools to get the sense of scene right, look from different perspectives, and pretty awesome in general
@@HiddenMongoose Turn on gravity option in preferences (in the navigation tab). Then, when you press shift + ~ view camera will fall down, unless there is mesh under it.
I learned this yesterday, and I've found that Walk (with gravity off) is better than flying. Q and E to rise up and down. You can also use this to animate your cameras. Search up the tiny tutorial on "How to smoothly animate cameras in blender" that has a nice car on the thumbnail.
Isn't it *Ctrl~* for free cam, then you can press *Tab* to enable gravity, and press *Space* to grapple hook. Pretty cool feature, great for if your making any sort of human scale environments
Also did not know about that you could navigate in Blender like in Unity/Unreal but have sooo much wished for it. Randomly stumbled on this video just now and now it works! Using the same workflow everywhere in my Game Dev chain should speed up and make things easier and more efficient. Esp since I often build and texture entire levels in Blender and import it as one asset when say modelling a large building like an office ect so being able navigating around that in Blender like I do in the game engine is surley to advantage. This feature should be much more well documented!
I knew this existed but stuck to the classic middle click and other hotkeys. PSA: Press the period (full stop) key with an object selected, it will bring that object to the center of the mouse orbit and you can navigate as though that were the only object in the scene.
When I watched a animation tutorial for how to make Minecraft animations this was one of the first key points. Im baffled that some people don’t know this.
the first thing I do when switching to a new version is get walk/fly navigation working ( it doesn't work with my keyboard layout by default). it's so useful to frame shots by just looking around in camera view and walking with wasd.
This also happened to me when starting blender, I was like: Hmmm, this isn't like Unity, well, guess I'll use the only movement tools I got then. Then when I realized this on a stack overflow post I was like, WHAAAT?!?!?! Except it was in a old version of blender
i have it set up where while you hold the right mouse button it enters this mode (and when you release it you exit it). Dunno how you suffered through 3 years of default blender controls mate.
The two other worst things about blender: 1.Removing the Toon Shader that was in blender internal - I was using Toon Shader back in 2.79....In version 2.8 they removed it, or at least left only the TOON BSDF in cycles - And Guess what - I can't use cycles, because my computer will not handle that, especially for animation 2. Grease pencil is useless for me, at least until they would do the tight integration, which would happen probably at the end of 2022 - For now The grease pencil ignores Depth of field, It doesn't catch or cast shadows, and ignores motion blur or refractions I mean, you could do this, but the process is a pain in the butt - You had to animate or draw the character/thing, then render only the character on the transparent background, Then import the image as planes, back to blender, And only after this your character would react to all these things...
First, Shift-F isn't even used anymore. Second, you still can't use it if you have Lock to 3D Cursor enabled, which is the only way to get around that problem where you can't zoom in far enough unless you know how to pan your way around it. Am I missing something or is there not a way to reset the viewport camera?
I hardly ever used this besides when I built my new flat and furniture in blender before moving to arrange it beforehand and using the walk mode to see how it would look, but I'm pretty sure I always just got there via the menus so I didn't even realise the key bind was changed
why dont people just google if this is a feature or not? I hate fly/walk mode but damn a 2 second google search would have told me it exists for those that want to use it
i suppose im lucky to have figured this out 3 months in by accident by having my thumb mouse button bound to ` and pressing it along with shift by accident
FFS, I've been doing things on and off with Blender for the past 10 *years* , I've even worked with exported chunks from Minecraft, and I didn't know about this. Not sure how much better that is. xD ) It's a bit like learning you can disconnected and reconnect power lines in Factorio after hundreds of hours of playing the game... ehhh. ^^"
I just can't believe the number of Blender veterans who didn't know that you can go Creative Mode in Blender
what is that? I googled, but couldnt find. Are you calling this ^ creative mode?

just change the keybinds to blender2.7x. Thats what i did.

They changed _all_ of the keybinds with 2.8. There's a legacy 2.7X keybinds preset in the settings if you want to go back for some reason.
They took it off Shift + F Because of the importance of the F key for modelling. It was too common to accidentally shift + F.
