It would be really cool to use some of Ratchet's gadgets, or Jak's eco powers, or any of the abilities used by the characters who made an appearance.

Ah man, really enjoyed Rescue Mission on PSVR 1. Still pissed that there wasn't a VR option for the new Astro Bot game. As much as I've enjoyed his previous iterations, I'm a bit skeptical of his ability to truly be the face of Playstation. Astro Bot himself lacks a distinct identity, mainly since he's pretty much limited to squeaks and gestures and dumb little dances; all of which are also done by the other bots in his universe. Maybe if they put him in a different setting where there weren't hundreds of other similar bots he'd feel a bit more unique? Even still, it would be a tough task to get audiences to bond with a character that can't talk imo. It's been done, but the challenge is real.
There's enough problems with porting over the new astro game to VR that I understand why they didn't do it. Rescue mission integrated motion controls into all the abilities and hid bots specifically in a way that works for a person in VR to physically look around for them. If AB was in VR it would just be like watching it on a big ass screen, and it's not like it's first person also which can help with immersion. I think the choice makes sense personally There are definitely still questions about the characters ability to be that mascot though, i agree. It's clear that's what they want him to be/what he is right now, but I agree that his design is a little too "default character" and the bots all looking like him doesn't help. But the foundations of the world/level style they have and the clear love for platformers it shows (plus the great use of the ps5 controller) is such a solid foundation that I think they can do a gradual pivot into a more standalone character and pull it off well. @@collinkaufman2316 True, but you couldn't really call a specific Minion a mascot. IMO Astro has the same problem. He doesn't stand out enough against the other Bots to be his own character.
It wasn't an accident. Look up the comparison video of Astro and Mario. Astro essentially was "inspired" by various big Mario games. Sunshine, Galaxy, 3D World, etc.
There's only so much "original things" you can do in a platformer genre, especialy when Nintendo is already snatchin ideas left and right. I couldn't even count the amount of mario titles they made
For those who have the opportunity to play on the first PS VR, please play Astro Bot Rescue Mission, you won't regret it. In my opinion it's even better than Astro Bot on the PS5, especially if you are receptive to VR! And congrats for the cool, interesting, short video. I see it's your most viewed video for now!
Astro Bot is closer to what personality cores are to Valve than what Mario is to nintendo. If you want to stay within the realm of nintendo you could say Astro Bot is Sonys Cpt.McCloud.
I was also wondering about Astros future. Mario re-invents itself almost every time a main line Mario comes out. This is difficult to do with what Astro has established so far.
Astro bot has got the charm and connectivity to be the mascot of PlayStation at its current form of today. So much has grown and it feels like every mascot over the years helped pass on the torch for the new face of the company to find its identity. Cute lil bot fits so well, Sackboy was honestly my second pick but I'd understand that they wouldn't have fit the color aesthetic of PlayStation today. Plus their games may have influenced Astro bot in a way. Shape wise, both characters almost look similar, except one is made of stitching, the other a pure robot
I like to think that the games and the special bots from those games are what they actually look like and they use that “real-life filter” from inside out to make them look like different
I hope that the next entry for the Astro bot series is gonna be a PSVR2 title. Mysteriously, it‘s the first pice of major hardware since the PS4 launch that doesn‘t have a tech demo. I‘d be fine with an Astro bot tech demo arriving late to the headset, I just want something!
The next Astrobot should be like the Special Character levels after beating a boss and be the entire game rather than just collecting them for the hub area, the collection should still happen but they should be playable and their unique abilities become something you can use in the game on any level.
One of the reasons I think Astro Bot is cool is because it takes so many ideas from Nintendo games and puts them all under one roof, however this can also be a bad thing depending on how you look at it
The weirdest accidents sometimes have the best outcomes. Habe grown up with Nintendo consoles, got a free PS5 from my ISP last week, played Astro bot and I think Sony should really keep this guy. It fits PlayStation really well just like Mario and the rest do on Nintendo!
Astro Verse (Smash bros 3D) Astro (Kingdom Hearts like) Thats what i would do... if i was Playstation and wanted success, again i would do this IF i wanted success if not then i wont make them.
The original PlayStation mascot in the US was supposed to be a character called "Polygon Man" - the only problem was that when it was publicly released at E3 1995 everyone hated it - including Ken Kutaragi. At the same show, they had some early builds of Crash Bandicoot - which got a really positive reception. So poor old Polygon Man got kicked to the curb and Sony started to heavily feature Crash in the advertising.
@@Tired_man1 i dont blame you for not knowing it. It was a game that has been in the making for about 8 years, between 200-400 million dollars spent on it, and it shutdown within 2 weeks. It was meant to be an overwatch clone but it failed miserably
I see two possible directions. Either it goes into being its own fleshed out stand alone platforming game. Or it goes the Kingdom Hearts route. Full worlds featuring each game in a much broader light with a congruent story.
I finally just got a PS5 this week and I’m so surprised at how enjoyable the free Astro’s Playroom is, so his new game is a definite must buy for me.
Bro really decided to drop two banger videos at the same time.
Not going to lie but sackboy should've been the mario to playstation
I'm like 2/3 through ASTRO Bot and it's fantastic
4:43 loved the cuphead reference
Astro Bot is closer to what personality cores are to Valve than what Mario is to nintendo.
If you want to stay within the realm of nintendo you could say Astro Bot is Sonys Cpt.McCloud.
Great video! This is the first video of yours that I've seen, and it was enough to make me sub. Shocked you don't have more! Awesome job!
I was also wondering about Astros future. Mario re-invents itself almost every time a main line Mario comes out. This is difficult to do with what Astro has established so far.
“Congrats, your on the likes of Mario”
“Awesome! Who is my creator”
“ *your a mistake* “
Really, really great video. Comparing it to something like Mario really allows you to see the possibilities here.
Better analysis.. "he doesn't beat clank" 💯
4:21 that’s a bit to specific…
Yea I agree. Whatever the next game is will truly decide if Astro is a contender with big mascots
I was literally talking about this the other day and your video came up on my feed this morning…phones are listening. Good video though
Algorithm recommending good shit from small creators. You love to see it. Subbed!
i really love this nintendo game remake, like u just turn back time
Astro Bot did evolve into the ultimate Mascot after Jak and Rayman alike.
One of the reasons I think Astro Bot is cool is because it takes so many ideas from Nintendo games and puts them all under one roof, however this can also be a bad thing depending on how you look at it
astro bot rescue mission is amazing. it was one of my first vr games and i love it
6:01 I love astro's playroom also
I've joined an elite club of people who subscribed to this channel before it blew up. Great stuff man
Their mascot is obviously Star child from Concord
The weirdest accidents sometimes have the best outcomes. Habe grown up with Nintendo consoles, got a free PS5 from my ISP last week, played Astro bot and I think Sony should really keep this guy. It fits PlayStation really well just like Mario and the rest do on Nintendo!
I think a multiplayer Astro Bot game would work as a cool follow up to the 2024 game.
Astro bot game with a battle pass 🥶🥶
@@SlothSandwhich Astro Bot 6v6 Hero Shooter with 100 Player Battle Royale game mode 😬
Astro Verse (Smash bros 3D)
Astro (Kingdom Hearts like)
Thats what i would do... if i was Playstation and wanted success, again i would do this IF i wanted success if not then i wont make them.
I love astro bot!!
Brings childhood memories back.
Used to play so many platformer (albeit on nintendo consoles)
... gone but not forgotten
They wanted Daw to be their mascot. You can guess how it went. Worse, the CEO seems to be desperate to revive Concord.
Reboot Concord as a Free to Play Game.
I want a ps5 so bad im stuck with this goofy ah ps4
I 100% the game in my family freinds ps5, the ball thing was so hard because their controller sucks
Very good video and overall explanation of your opinion on the subject.
From what I can see, it seems that the Astro bots serve a similar role as the Bendys from portal, used by valve in the lab
But… will xbox ever have its own Mario?
I would love a well made AstroKart game maybe with some Wipeout influences in there.
I always considered Jumping Flash as one of their first attempts.
Mario? Not even close, Concord characters are the new image of PlayStation brand now.
Concord? Never heard of it
@@Tired_man1 i dont blame you for not knowing it. It was a game that has been in the making for about 8 years, between 200-400 million dollars spent on it, and it shutdown within 2 weeks. It was meant to be an overwatch clone but it failed miserably
@@Cking22they also canceled a lot of games for it, one of them was gonna be last of us multiplayer 2 but the project got shut down for concord .
@@SlothSandwhich thats not how it works lmao
@@gersonjr2560 my bad greyson
Love the fact that Sony acknowledged the existance of PSVita in 2020. 6:10
Including the first PSP, PSP camera, UMD, and the PSP go (the console. I wish I got because it has sliding controls)
Astro bot rescue missing is just literally multiplayer but you are both players at once
I see two possible directions. Either it goes into being its own fleshed out stand alone platforming game. Or it goes the Kingdom Hearts route. Full worlds featuring each game in a much broader light with a congruent story.
I would say the best contender for mascot is kratos.
Incredible character arc with every game being insanely fun to play.
I’d never even heard of or seen Astro Bot until the controller and game came out for PS5
I finally just got a PS5 this week and I’m so surprised at how enjoyable the free Astro’s Playroom is, so his new game is a definite must buy for me.
What’s funny is I don’t think I ever payed attention to the Playroom game for PS4 in the like nine years I’ve had that console. I know it’s likely not as impressive as the PS5 Playroom but I should probably finally actually check it out…
Next game will be a Lego style of game where they recreate a game the way Lego does in astros style and themes.
My best guess how Astro continues
JAK AND DAXTERRR MENTIONEDDD
JAK and Daxter, Sackboy and Nathan Drake will always be the main mastocs in my eyes
Me and my homies love astrobot
Astro Bot: Rescue Mission nailed it for me.
0:05 Can't CANNOT forget about Oddworld.
I can’t shake the feeling that these little guys remind me of the iron giant
4:43 wally warbles? Octodad? "GET OU-"
SACKBOY WAS DONE SO DIRTY
Okay But Ratchet was Originally Sony's Mascot he had the same vibe as Sonic being like SEGA answer to Mario
The move was really good tech for its time. Guess you had to be there
Well, I guess this proves that accidental inventions are sometimes the best ones
“Marvel’s-esque style opening” - brother, Sony came up with this idea way before Marvel films
PlayStation camera was a popular accessory 😅 - people were broadcasting crazy stuff 🙈
Sony has only been using that type of logo opening since 2020. It's pretty obvious that got the inspiration from Marvel, and there's nothing wrong with that.
Can we agree that the face of Xbox is masterchief tho?
Great video 🙌 I love Astroooo!
What game is that @ 7:05? Wish Astro would come to the PC. Great video. Liked + Subbed
Puppeteer.
It's another game by Japan Studio.
@@epiphaner Thank you!
Astro Bot is an amazing game that at the same time shows how depressing it is that so many beloved Sony IPs were abandoned in time. Also I love Astro as a mascot, but he’ll never be Sackboy…
I love astro bot
Out of all the games I think rescue mission is my favorite. The vr experience was really good. I was hoping that with the new one that they were going to make it playable on a TV and also PSVR2.
