The SNES Mini is better: The menu/UI is better designed, the controller is much better (and it's beyond easy to get an extension cable for it too), the included games list is smaller but simply superior (and it's pretty easy to expand), etc. All the fluff stuff can be argued over, like how easy it is to simply reset the system or plug in a controller the one time or how many borders there are, etc, but, once you're just sitting down and playing away while occasionally switching to a new game every now and then, which is what you actually do on the system the vast majority of the time, with everything else being something you mess around with for few mins at the start mostly and then pretty much never bother with again, you're getting far more universally acclaimed and revered games on SNES that still appear in every Best Games of all Time list to this day, and with a default controller for playing them that's simply much better to actually use. There's a reason the SNES Mini ultimately sold over 5.28 million units and the Genesis Mini didn't break a million, because--since everyone always goes there--Nintendoes what Genesis Doesn't. And, once you hack the SNES Mini to allow it to play the likes of Genesis and PC Engine games too (along with adding a simple controller combo command to easily return to menu plus those controller extensions), the other systems just aren't in the same league as the SNES Mini, because their menus/UIs and their controllers just aren't at that Nintendo level of user friendliness and all round quality and polish. Note: I owned all three of the main Mini systems, SNES Mini, Genesis Mini, and PC Engine Mini, and I ultimately returned the Genesis Mini and PC Engine Mini systems and simply hacked those games onto my SNES Mini, because the underlying SNES Mini is just superior in the most important ways and provided the best base unit there, and sorted.
I think i will go with the SNES mini. The SNES is harder to emulate accurately than the Genesis and the emulation in the SNES mini is spot on, even emulating expansion chips like the Super FX chip and SA-1, it turns the SNES mini in a very good emulator, almost flawless. The Genesis is very easy to emulate at full speed and the lack of accuracy in it´s emulation pass unnoticed most of the times.
while both are a blast from the past and have there own charm, the snes mini from what i remember was hacked day 1 of release so the entire library was open for the system and we finally got star fox 2 the same day they released the system... on the sega side it took a bit more to get that one hacked and get the exclusive titles (mega man and tetris) off into the wild and to hack back all games which all dont work with the on board emu... both systems with some minor additions can run about 99% of there respective game libraries and on the sega side if you want to really get creative you can plug the sega cd into it and the 32x games to really balloon up the games lists... as for the arguement of the pause button for the sega... i bought some wireless snes controllers for my snes mini and that is one of the features built right into the controller so that kinda erases that argument all around especially since you can get extension cords or now the tons of wireless controllers for both systems and you got an awesome plug and play system that boast tons of replayability just like the NES mini did and honestly once it was hacked the ps1 mini as well
and a down side to the genesis mini is they didnt clock it properly so it runs most games a hare slower that the mod community needed to patch in to fix that
All really good points. I was trying to take the approach of just what is actually available out of the box, rather than via hacking or third party accessories, etc. The point about the Sega games running a tad slower is a really good one that I missed, but for me personally wouldn't have made a tremendous difference.

Gotta go with the SNES Classic for the win. Menu design and novelties on the console are back burner issues for me. Nintendo hit it out of the park with the game list, even though there are only 21. I was a Nintendo kid, but I didn't have a dog in the fight when it came to the console wars in the 1990's. If a game was fun, I'd play it, regardless of the console it belonged to. However, I was 10 when the SNES was released, and I could certainly tell the Genesis was a lesser quality option than the SNES. Plus the 3 button Genesis controller was poorly designed, making fighting games entirely unplayable. For me, it's all about the games and playability, and the SNES kills the competition. Of course there are exceptions, but overall, quality over quantity does matter for me. Sure, I would have loved to see a few more titles that were omitted from the game roster, but I can't complain. I'm not a game collector (I collect retro toys instead), so I'm perfectly happy playing emulated games. I own the NES Classic, SNES Classic, Sega Genesis Mini, Sega Genesis Mini 2, Neo Geo Mini and Playstation Classic consoles and I play each one, but I play the SNES Classic the most. I even bought two SNES Classics, just in case one gets broken or stops working.
SNES is easily better than Genesis, but both of these Minis could've had better selections from their respective libraries. At least they both are better than PS1 Mini lol
@@KurodaKyousuke Funny thing is, even though N64 emulation is more difficult and the system's library is much smaller and overall has fewer good games, if Nintendo ever makes an N64 Mini it'll blow PS1 Mini out of the water lol.
@@KurodaKyousuke Yeah, probably not, unfortunately. They might if they ever need cash badly enough, which is why they did it in the first place during the Wii U era, I think, but Switch is doing incredibly well.

The SNES mini had more games that you hadn't seen in ten dozen compilations though.

Both are great both can be modded which is most important
Genesis and snes are like brothers imo

Plug in wii classic controller for player 2. You get home buttons. Which most people had because of the wii.
