I always finish every video this channel puts out. No skipping. Why? At the same time, it introduces the consoles and games the added extra information, tips and history of the games made is golden. Kudos.
Recently found your channel and I gotta say its awesome. Its cool to see someone talk about lesser talked-about/liked consoles along with talking about games of genres alot of retro game youtubers don’t talk about like strategy or rpg games. It feels really fresh
I’ve been forcibly going “THAIIITHOOOO” out loud any time anyone ever mentions Taito for a while now and that all started with the initial coverage of the Egret II Mini. Awesome to see it again.
@GameSack 34:24 The "blur" is called bilinear filtering, it's there for a reason: To avoid the sharp, hard pixel look and be more faithful to what a CRT natively looked like. Some of us LIKE this filter and always prefer it as softer appearance makes the emulated game look more authentic. Personal preference is a thing, but the sharp-edge pixel look just looks silly to many people.
That particular filter used in the TurboGrafx games does not approximate a CRT at all. But yes, nothing wrong with having it there so long as it's optional.
@@GameSack I didn't say "approximate", I said more faithful to the way a CRT naturally looks, which is a softer, more blended appearance. However, yes I agree the option to use or not use it should have been there.
@@lexluthermiester Honestly even over composite video I never got the "blended" appearance people talk about so much in the modern age. The filter is not faithful. It's heavy-handed. And waaay too dark.
@@GameSack Really? What TV's did you have back then? Every CRT TV I ever owned had a soft/blended look to it. This is due to how CRT's work. There are no "pixels" on CRT's. So nothing was ever as crisp and sharp as LCD's/LED TV's have today. Whether or not a bilinear filter is "faithful" is open to opinion, preference and debate, one we don't need to engage in here.
@@lexluthermiester I had a 13-inch color TV (I forget the brand right now) which only had an RF input. The video wasn't as blurry and certainly nowhere near as dark as the filters used on the Wii TurboGrafx games. If anything, CRTs tend to look brighter than modern TVs. Anyway on my old TV I could still make out dithering effects quite easily. The Wii TurboGrafx filter is just bad. Fortunately filters these days will do a little more to let you adjust it, but many still darken the image when applying the fake scanlines. Blur should only ever be applied in the horizontal direction in these cases. I created my own filter to simulate CRT effects which I use all the time on Game Sack - ua-cam.com/video/m0Y_bQ5tX60/v-deo.html
I didn't know game sack covered a sin and punishment sequel. I didn't play the original until last year so I didn't pay attention in 06, and it's AWESOME! I'm glad I'm watching these again
Oh wow. I didn't know that's what the Polymega was, I just assumed it was some obscure console I hadn't heard of from back in the 90's or early 2000's. Sounds like a pretty neat alternative to having so many consoles or trying to replace one that no longer works. 😅👍
I still use the Xbox 360 episode to test my audio equipment as any smart TV and smart TV device is able to get the UA-cam app. Thank you for uploading a true 5.1 surround sound video. 🫡
Hatrick is a term used in cricket when a bowler takes three wickets in a row. It is very rare and quite an achievement. It would be like getting a quadruple double in basketball.
Ahhh....i do so love these crunch episodes...in a sea of copycat retro channels, all seemingly existing in a quest to get free stuff and 'review' the same few dozen crappy Chinese knockoff handhelds, all full of the same pirated roms (which almost no one talks about! They don't wanna bite the hand that feeds i guess), game sack stands alone, as the OG. Full of humour and honesty, and top notch footage and observations. Only channel im still subbed to after 12 years. Though top hat gaming man is close in that regard, and on par in all the others.
BTW Euro platformers used up button to jump not because they wanted to but because they had to. Home computers were much preferred over consoles. BUT most were hardware restricted to one button on the joystick. So if you wanted the fire button to shoot or swing an axe, you were left with no other buttons left for jump.
Man i never gel-ed with the Wii motion controls. Even Mario Galaxy felt like molasses. The pointing to collect the stars killed that game for me. Which i dont mind motion in other stuff - modern VR, light gun, heck even mouse and keyboard (2D motion controls lol) but something about the infrared detection i guess. WiiSports is alright but outside that i tried really hard and dont mind the more regular control heavy stuff, but many games id otherwise love i got sick of a few hours in at most. It's something about the sensitivity or something, maybe even input lag? Idk. Sucks cuz i feel like i miss out on some games that never got released with other controls.
Mario kart wii - you should play it with the nunchuck and wiimote sort of like a split classic controller - the pow is easy to avoid and also the stunts with a flick of the wrist rather than having to use the dpad.. the online mode was where it was at (for a while). Those rebirth games shouldve been on those recent konami collections!
@@lauti29kun Thank you. I’ve got some dead caps in my Gamecube so I have to use a hairdryer to heat it up for it to read discs 😂 It’ll be cheaper for me to buy a Wii than a replacement recapped Gamecube.
Original Wii with GameCube ports it's the way to go, but a family edition wii is capable of play GameCube games if you modded it ("digital" games I mean)

One selling point I'd state for an Xbox 360 (make sure it's a Jasper motherboard) it was backwards compatible, even with games like Raze's Hell, not currently available on Xbox one. And, unlike the og version Xbox it won't look like you store your games in a sandbox after one play. There is also lockout feature on d pad, which makes games like Pac-Man and Ms Pac-Man more enjoyable. Just my two cents
Klonoa with actual voices was the one thing I disliked about the remake. Until I found out I could just turn it off so it became my favourite way to play until the Remaster on PS4.
As neat as the motion controls were, I really wish Nintendo had let regular control options be programmed into the Wii games. It's not like these motion controls were going to be such an important feature for the rest of forever, and it certainly wasn't making it easy for them to remaster and resale those titles in the future and we all should clearly see how often companies like to sell the same game to us over and over again.
Is there something wrong with my eyes? 3:31:34 I don't see a difference in fps here and I don't think I've ever seen the difference between 30 and 60 fps. 😅👍

If they thought by naming the Xbox 360 the Xbox 2 it would seem lesser than the PlayStation 3, what changed between then and their naming of 2013's Xbox One?
I wonder why no one likes the Xbox d-pad for fighting games. I don't know if I lucked out and just got good d-pads on my controllers or what but I can pull off every move 95% of the time when I'm trying to do specials. And that's about the average. On a good controller. I don't think it is exactly the best but I don't think it is horrible either. I definitely enjoy Xbox 360 fighting games. I pull off every move just fine. But I also keep my thumb on the d-pad the whole time I don't swing my thumb from one end 2 the other. I just keep my thumb on it and rock the d-pad. Instead of lifting my thumb from one end to the other. Use that method it will definitely help a 1000% with fighting games on a Xbox d-pad
This is a direct result of removing digital marketplaces like the Eshop. When you take the ease of being able to purchase products legally at a reasonable price, people are going to find other ways to access it. Obviosly there's always going to be those who pirate games regardless, but that is not the majority. I just RECENTLY hacked a few of my old consoles and the main reason why is because the games I wanted to play are no longer available anywhere besides the very much inflated second-hand market. Nintendo needs to realize that the best way to battle piracy, is to stop making games unavailable for purchase through them direclty.
Nice! Time for bedtime with Joe. Anyone else fall asleep to these hour long retro comps?
Nothing like Games in the Sack :D
Yup I have super bad tinnitus (ear ringing) so I crank game sack while I sleep
I do and then I watch it again lol
Yes
Yes! Same here!
Roughly 17ish years ago I was selling wii fits at GameStop and I'll never forget it, what a time to be alive.
It’s no longer called naptime. It is now called Sacktime
Sacktime has always been my strength

Of course, I'm at work... so I still need to wait 3 hours to watch it...
That Tate Mode bit on the taito hardware was brilliant. It's that kind of thing that's kept me subbed and watching all these years.

6 episodes in 1! I'll have to watch this from my toilet "Joe style".

Great 64DD review! well done!
Miles are HUGE in the country, Joe. It is estimated a country mile can be up to 25 percent larger then a non-country mile.
Depends on number of switchbacks. Country Mile can be 2, 3, 4x longer than a City Mile, because nothing is a direct path
Come for the Sack, stay for the TATE MOOOOOODE!
Raiden Fighters man id love to see a Nintendo Switch port one day i do have all 3 games on mame so that'll hold me over till then if it ever happens
Well. I'm officially subbing now, these Console Crunch episodes are to thank for this.

Resident Evil 4 was awesome on Wii, getting to aim the controller like a firearm felt good for the shooting.

Does the Wii architecture mean that Gamecube games run natively without any lag or special processing?
Yes, they work natively. And with Nintendon't they perform better, because they run at the Wii clock speed.
