I am a proud owner of a Corvette C4, and you are right on the spot: Not only is it a beautiful car, but you also meet nice people in the community, and EVERY trip is worth it. This video absolutely nails the feeling of owning such a beauty! Cheers from Germany, and I am also motivated to make a similar video with my own beautiful "dragon", as I call her.
Make one! Worth that could happen is it inspires people to take care of what they have and find value in the memories they create. I like the name dragon! Mine is named Murphy.
Got a 91. Best car I've had. Usually only drive it weekends, and there's always a sense of occasion when I do. Like you, I feel like I have the poor man's Ferrari. Just ten tons of fun, and is gorgeous to look at.
Owned a '94 in Black Rose. I just had problems with getting in and out of it being 6'2", but once I was in the seat… Absolute pleasure to drive, a phenomenally smooth drive. Eventually, I would like to get another ’94 to ’96 C4, but for now I’m rolling in an ’81 C3. It's not as refined as the '94 was, but it's still a joy to cruise in.
I got a 1996 Polo Green LT1 back in November of 2023 and I AM in love with my car. I knew I'd like it but I'm surprised just how happy driving it makes me. And yeah, it's gorgeous, it catches my eye every time I see it. I'm in my 60s and it's my first Corvette - my first sporty car.
Thanks for the video, I’m 65 and “got my Corvette” 96’ Collector a couple of years ago, never thought I’d own one and I’ve thought about selling a couple of times but when I see it in my garage and driving it I change my mind. I’m 6’3 so getting in and out is not really a graceful operation it’s worth it. I’ve replaced the headlight motor bushings, tires, flushed coolant system (heater core was clogged), fuel pump (easy). Mine has the clear targa that previous owner painted black so I’d like to remedy that and weather stripping needs replaced. Early on I was disappointed with the Bose system and found out the problem was the speakers. Found out you can make a mixture of hot water and wood glue and brush it on the brittle speaker cone and worked wonders giving the paper some strength and stability.
Just purchased a very similar C4 as yours. Mine is red on red, 6sp, LT4, with the Z51 sports suspension. Absolutely enjoying the experience of driving and working on this fantastic American icon. The first thing I did was to throw new Nitto tires on all 4 corners as the tires were date stamped from 2012. Next I fixed the HVAC system that was permanently stuck in defrost mode, a challenging experience but very enjoyable. Currently it’s getting a paint correction with ceramic coating and ceramic window tinting. The most amazing part of ownership has been the absolutely absurd amount of people complementing this beautifully engineered automobile. Currently it only has 20250 miles. A garage queen indeed. Haven’t yet seen another locally and that’s amazing cause I live in the 5th largest metropolitan city in America. Enjoyed watching your video and seeing the progress you’ve made.
Welcome to the LT4 experience lol. I intentionally looked for an lt4 when I went to look for mine. I wanted something a little lived in so I went for a bit higher mileage, not that that even helped because I ended up having to go through everything anyways. I look forward to hearing about updates to yours as time goes on. That was a good call on the tires, Hard rubber kills a lot of people.
I saved a numbers matching 89 coupe from being parted out. Found it on FB market place and offered the guy $2500 for what was left. Im driving it everywhere now..!
Heck yeah. How many miles? I have done most of the major things you can do to these things, but what issues if any have you come across while owning yours?
I bought a c5 same color scheme for the same reasons. I’m older but wanted something that I could play with for hp slowly over time. Open canvas. That’s a beautiful ride.
That is the beauty of buying a corvette. For as much as you want to feel bad about tinkering. You know there are enough of them in garages in perfect shape, one is bound to be preserved.
Since November I’ve been restoring a 1993 LT1 6spd. The car is very fun to upgrade and modify - much more so than I anticipated. Also, it can be a nail-biter. Recently, I sent my steering column off for restoration/repair and thanks to the steering column wizard it’s fixed because most of the parts are discontinued.
I had a bit of grief with one of my axle stubs. They don’t make those new either. lol. I bought this thing wanting to get away from my RX7’s habit of not being able to be driven because A part is unobtainable. Got lucky. Sounds like you did too. That’s cars for you. That’s why we love them.
Great year, thanks for all the vids. Hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas ! PS Just got my Flow Master cat back duels in for my 96 coupe. 40 series mufflers with a great sound, not obnoxious. They were backordered since July when I ordered them. Have appointment next Friday to install. Can't wait to get them on...
That is awesome! Thank you for watching. If you ever have ideas for something you would like to see in future videos, by all means. Still a young channel, plenty of directions we can take it.
I bought a 90 conv. it was running on a carb set up and the top was oe car has 73k miles, I decided to start fixing it up finding some parts are challenging there are many differences between model years. TPI set up on a vette has the fuel lines connecting on the right camero is on the left. If anyone needs the complete intake set up for a Camaro I have one for sale.
How’s it going buddy. Where did you get your see through top. Also enjoyed the video bud. I have the exact car except it’s black. Keep up the good work.
Just purchased a 96 LT4 Corvette last week! Love to see that you enjoyed yours the past year. Unfortunately have found some issues after getting it home and starting work, including pretty much every suspension bushing and tie rod. Do you remember the brand you used for your bushings and tie rods/ball joints, if you replaced those as well? I know Super Pro has been promoted for bushings recently, and Moog for everything else, but not sure if it can all fit in the budget. Thanks!
Head to rock auto. At the end of the day, people might make fun of you but I have used most of the brands they have for tie rods, as long as it is greaseable, you will get more life out of it than non. Regardless, you probably won’t drive the car long enough to wear out a cheap no greaseable unit either. As far as the bushings, Prothane. I have used them for decades. Since I was 16. Now in my 40’s on several cars. Never had a problem. That said. Super pro is the clear better option. I would personally recommend you do all the Univeral joints. And differential seals as well as the transmission output shaft seal while you are at it. Come to terms with removing the differential now. I did the front suspension the first winter along with the shocks. Did the trailing arms the first summer. Then did the unjoints, output shaft seal, differential seals and batwing bushings this winter.
Another thing. If the China wall on the rear of the intake is leaking, I would pull the intake manifold, do that gasket set sooner than later. Also, bypass the coolant line to the throttle body. It will be much happier during the summer.
@@QCLT4Guy Hello! Thanks for the detailed experiences and info, I appreciate it. It's white with a black interior, which I feel is sorta a timeless combo. Already bought some Moog tie rod ends cause I figured I might as well not cheap out on those specifically in case they do fail cause then I'd need a realignment. Went with Mevotech ball joints though, bout half the price and also greaseable so hopefully they'll last. Will get the superpro bushings in a few months when I get some more money together and rebuilt the entire suspension at once. Want to daily the car, so it'll be getting it's miles in at least. U joints on this car seem rock solid honestly along with most of the drivetrain, does have a coolant and very small oil leak though so I'll have to take a look at the seals you mentioned to see if they have anything to do with it. Thanks again for the info!
Red?!?? Most of them are so it’s a hard color to avoid. 😅 enjoy the car my friend. Remember, you will be going through the car. Expect it to randomly have a click or a tick or a squeak that wasn’t there. The day before.
DIY water pump change! That's bad ass!! Folks think my rx-7 1st gen is a Triumph TR7 (the shape of things to come), or a datsan z car. Chain store auto techs can't understand it has a rotary engine, but say I need a tune up. Chicks are like, WOW ! you must be a great mechanic, care to look at my prelude or civic? My porsche 914 was mistaken for a ferrari or a mazda..........quite a difference. Then there are the vw digs, until they see the OEM engine.
People like me seem to also have rx-7’s. I wonder why that is? Also. I feel your pain. I don’t know how many people say they used to have one of these Datsuns. I roll my eyes. Some of the younger gear heads are starting to get it though. I usually display a rotor and housing with the hood up at shows. Watching people explain how they work is priceless.
It was more tedious scraping the old stuff and glue off than it was hard. I used the medium priced stuff from Corvette central. I do not recall the brand. The only one I did not do was the windshield because they did that when they replaced the windshield. I would not recommend that you let them. They never told me they didn’t adjust the windows until my first big rains storm.

Right on
Thank you, I’ll check with them

Melrose in Illinois can help you with the top. They replace the lense.

Good man! I mean for the price, I’m shocked there is any value in parting them out at all.
“ A Billion of C4’s on the Road” ? Man, General Mayhem would be in heaven , if that were so!
Just being funny LOL.
lol. I try not to be too serious. Too many people that own these things are plenty serious for me and three other owners.
Great 👍 Vette! I have an LT4 as well! I’ve owned mine since February 98.

@@QCLT4Guy it’s always been the Opti Spark. I had some serious ABS issues I did a whole video on that. But my car has a built 397 Stroker now.

Melrosetops.com mine was actually a good condition used one they didn’t have the heart to take apart that I was able to talk them out of at the show.
