I'm excited for you dude. I just got a '96 LT4. I've waited my whole life to own this car. There's just a great feeling driving these things. So dang fun!
I had a friend that let me drive his lt4 6 speed, that is one awesome ride, super quick. Man I'm excited for you too, congrats! Enjoy the ride, really happy for you brother🤙
People are missing out on the C4 corvette. I have a super nice 94 polo coupe and it's a great fun car. People just assume you only get a c4 because they're cheap . I was in High school in the early 90s and this was the car to have .
They really are, agreed. I used to pass a red, parked 87 on my way to high school every morning (late 90's), drove a 78 Firebird Formula at the time lol, wanted that C4 bad. I do like the sound/quality of Borla, can't go wrong:)
My friend, Chris in high school had a brother that worked at a steel mill. And had the Corvette C4 ZR1. I had a chance to ride it to school and now I own one myself.🤓🤓🤓🤓
Beautiful Corvette that will pull hard all day long. The stereo is absolutely incredible and i urge you to keep it stock. I will tell you more about my C4 Corvettes another time. Take care man.
Thanks very much my friend, 100% agree on the factory bose system, they sound phenomenal for being 34 years old, just gonna have my factory unit redone. Would love to hear about yours as well, appreciate it and you take care too🤝
Awesome Corvette! I think that's the best color for a Vette! That car is absolutely perfect. Looks like the cleanest one I've seen. Seats are in perfect shape. Why can't I find one like that.
Thank you so much, really appreciate it. Definitely pretty close to new, my favorite color as well for a C4:) You'll find one, did take me a heck of a long time to find though, but they're out there.
Picked up a 96 LT4 with Z51 sports package six speed manual at 20K miles. All stock in perfect condition. I really enjoy seeing yours as it’s beautiful.
Love the yellow! Best color imo. Been getting my corvette fix since my 88' doug nash c4 burnt itself to the ground from the wiper motor, haven't been able to get all the parts to fix it. Anyways I enjoyed spending 20 minutes cruising around with you.
People like you and comments like this is what I love best about this, really makes it worthwhile, thanks so much, enjoyed you cruising along too🇺🇲❤️ So dang sorry to hear about yours, I love the musclecar feel of the Nash, had a super t10 in a 78 Trans Am, really happy you enjoyed this video, happy day for me.
I have a 1990, definitely THE BEST of the c4's. still got the 80s angular body look, the reliable l98, and that updated "cockpit" style interior. Sick car. Mine was yellow too, but I had to repaint it cuz the previous owner did a pretty terrible job lol, ended up flat black.
You said it perfect, that's exactly why the 1990 is my favorite! Sorry to hear about the bad repaint, flat black could give it a stealth look though, that's pretty cool.
Thank you very much:) My dad's best friend had an 86 Fiero GT with a manual, V6. He said that car really surprised him, they do run good! Gotta love the old school stuff, tune them yourself🤝 I wish they had kept making those, very cool looking cars inside/out, especially the one you have.
Good-looking car man I like the C4s and the c5's I currently have a C7 2019 Grand Sport manual love it but I still love these older cars hang in there you're doing a good job with your videos
Thanks so much for that, trying to get better at the videos:) The C7 is beyond excellent in every way, and you have the ultimate LT1, Grand Sport with a manual! Just awesome❤️🤙 Really appreciate the comment my friend
I have a love hate with my C4. So fun yet so frustrating when something breaks. No shops by me want to work on them. Prices by me are way down. Yours looks nice
Thanks my friend, believe me I understand. Started out with an 84 that was beyond neglected by the previous owner, it didn't even make the journey home from purchase lol, that was an expensive tow I could barely afford.
I’ve heard shops don’t like to work on them. Part of it I get. It’s hard to diagnose issues when the OBD1 system doesn’t really help. Does the C5 have OBDII? I forget…. But still independent shops that know what they are doing should be able to work on them. I plan on doing a lot of the work myself.
@jimmerriman6920 I understand working on it yourself, it's always nice to know for sure it's done right. Yessir the C5 is OBD2, almost any car 1996+ will be:) They can be tricky to work on for sure, but that's awesome you're gonna work on your own, and it's satisfying, not to mention you save a small fortune, wouldn't be able to have the cars I've had if I didn't diy lol.
@jimmerriman6920 Sure do. The lt1 has a 4 bolt main too, as opposed to my l98 having a 2 bolt main, lt1 pulls harder to even higher rpm as well, great engine:)
Hi. I just bought my first C4. It's a '96, and I love it. I just needed some information on fixing my driver's side door panel. It's popped loose because of the broken clips, so I have to lean on it to clip it back. I also need a left rear speaker/ amp assembly, and finally, I'm waiting for a new 52 mm throttle body. Hope to hear back. Thanks. BTW....Mine is the same color. Competition Yellow. And I need a new glass roof. It cracked in the middle. I lived in Columbus, OH to.😊
Right on my friend, and congrats! You're already starting off better than I did, I had a basketcase 1984 LOL. So the door panel if the new clips are able to be secured well I'd just re use that if it's in nice shape, did just see a nice see through targa on a C4 Facebook forum for $500 shipped, they varied a bit but might fit your 96 (great year C4 btw) If not try Ebay, sometimes great deals pop up on all kinds of C4 parts. Also get on C4 forums on Facebook, tons of good parts there, just do Paypal only, no friends and family so you're safe from scams. A fellow Ohioan huh, it has it's ups and downs, thankfully I don't drive like a lot of them xD As far as the speakers/amps go it can get expensive to replace em all etc., I've only had to replace the control unit but if you're not too concerned about keeping it all original I'd wire the speakers to an aftermarket head unit, if not have a stereo shop with experience do it:) Throttle body will give you a few hp and better response, I love LT1's too, had a 94 Z28 6 speed that was a lot of fun.
@Feral80sKid Thank you. I'm thinking of a relens, but I would be without a targa roof for about 10 days due to shipping back and forth to Melrose T Tops in Illinois. I'm taking the left speaker out, and maybe I can hope for a loose wire 🙂 I need to look into the door panel again. I hear it clip each time I push it back. I'd like to see a video on repairing door panels on a '96 C4. I'm looking for more videos on C4's from you. Thank you.
You're welcome:) Hopefully it's just a loose wire🤞 maybe worst case just that amp. I don't usually do more than one video for a car but C4's are special to me too, I'll see what I can come up with. A clip or 2 may be worn down, hopefully that's all it is.
Great cars, I really loved mine. It was sold not too long ago, 1989 with 26,000 miles on it. Due to a decline in my physical well being I no longer could take care of it in the manner in which it deserved to be kept. The high price of somebody else maintaining it was out of the question as well as finding a person wanting to work on "old technology". Plus, I'm not comfortable with others wrenching on my Corvette. No regrets though, I had 21 great years with that car.
Feel exactly the same way as you my friend, you know it's done right if you did it right yourself🤝 Had an 89 Z51 6 speed, sure loved that car, learned how to wrench myself because I couldn't afford to pay someone to haha. I hope your health improves too by the way, I am sorry. Had some sciatic nerve pain go to my left hip 3 months back, wasn't able to do anything, hope the best for you, will say a prayer as well.🙏🇺🇲🏎
Really nice to see someone who loves their car! I've a 90 too, polo green but I wish the only issue I had was a flickering dash! I got it from Copart which gives you an idea how many things are wrong with it (everything). For some reason I started with the seats. Rebuilt the seat track gearbox, microsurgery on the seat switches, rebuilt the side bolster motor. Seat tracks rusted solid so had to free those. So now I can sit in comfort and imagine what it'll be like when it's fixed up. Look forward to seeing more of your Vette. Regards from across the pond.
Mate I've been there myself lol, had an 84 which was my first Corvette, feel your pain, total respect to you for doing it yourself, gotta start somewhere:) Thanks very much as well, so you have a 1990 in the UK??
@@Feral80sKid Yeah - one of the few - can't remember when I last saw one on the roads over here. Definitely worth saving! I've also got an 88 Iroc-Z with the 5.0TPI which I got when I was over in Germany. Working on that car gave me the confidence to tackle this one. I'll post a video of the Vette sometime........take care
@fm5480 Brother that is AWESOME, and you have some of the best country driving roads in the world, so cool. I haven't seen many, if any Polo Green 1990's even here, has to be pretty rare. Glad you are saving the car and fixing it up, cheers my friend! Love Irocs by the way, had an 89 350tpi, pretty rough but still a great driving car, black on grey.
Would love to see a vid of yours, and if you have questions we can share tips, love the Iroc Z, had an 89. You have some of the greatest country roads there I envy you! Just awesome
@@Feral80sKid I was lucky enough to spend some months in SFO in the early 2000's - you have some pretty epic roads over there too. We do have some good roads here - but I live up north - Let's say overheating isn't generally a problem 🥶😆 Here's a short of the IROC - ua-cam.com/video/hsRttyRekRY/v-deo.html hope it brings back some memories!
I recently purchased a 1991 medium quasar blue, 6sp. In very clean condition. I’m liking it more every day. Funny, I’ve got a 1977 Trans Am which is in the body shop…been in so long I bought the vette. I wonder how I’ll feel when I get the TA back..
Loved watching this video. I have a low mileage 93 Vette that’s all black inside and out it’s in extremely good shape to. My 350 has 300 hp so it’s a little more power.
Really glad you enjoyed th video, C4's are way too underrated. I really appreciate the LT1 motor, had a 94 Z28 with the 6 speed, nice torque curve and pulls hard😎
Just bought an 87 4+3 has a ram air intake from the front license plate, also a rear muffler removal behid the cat. Its fast and it screams clean when your gwtti g on it. Love it
Great video! I'm keeping my eyes open for a '90 too! Want the 6 speed, but auto is fine for the right car. Always had older cars, but my current 2016 Camaro 2SS is amazing. Still, something a little older to hold down the other half of the garage wouldn't hurt. Had countless thirdgen F bods, time for a c4!
And great comment from you! My first brand new car was a 6th gen Camaro 2SS, right on😎 Incredible cars, all around. Had a 2021 LT1 as well, and have all the love for 3rd gens too, my dad got me into those young lol, great comment thanks 🤝 I think you'd be really like the 90 Corvette knowing your taste, special experience to own and drive. And thank you very much my friend
@@Feral80sKid Had a 90z and already know being tall, with sport seats a 6 spd is out of the question for me. Those werent made for tall/big guys my hip hurt like a betch after 20 min driving. So another auto it is..just use these for knockaround town drivers. Cheap Thrills Lotsa guys on these forums overvalue theirs every day its how muh is mine worth NOW? Like they are gonna retire off it.
My biggest issue with the C4 is ingress and egress for the car requires a bit of gymnastics which I currently can handle even into my 50s but it really makes the C4 more of a young persons car due to this. I think the sweet spot for the Corvette is the C5 and C6 which still remain relatively affordable so long as you steer clear of the specialty models. Those models are much easier to get in and out of plus they are modern while still feeling old school. The C7 is a great vehicle but feels less old school and the C8 is in a whole other stratosphere in terms of driving experience and price.
@@speedfiend925 Definitely a challenge getting in and out, especially without damaging the seats and steering wheel. But, all of us fanatics know the procedure. That being said, I don’t mind it as long as I’m still capable of doing it because once you’re in, it feels like you’re wearing the car instead of just sitting in it.
looks great in yellow! I have a 90 quasar blue, 6sp manual trans, Z51 coupe, had 50k when got it in 2016, now 75k, value has about doubled since. Reliable with routine maintenance, biggest job was intake manifold gaskets due to oil leak. easy DIY car, all stock except I added dual exhaust with H-pipe into Corsas. not sure if mentioned.. but 90 is unique year with new interior and old body, this is missed even by C4 owners 90 is first year with a coolant reserve tank 90 first year air bag on driver side only, nice that your airbag is working as dash light goes off 5 seconds after starting engine, haha I was watching for that 90 wheels are 1 year only and the nicest C4 wheels except for 96 GS style 5 spoke 'A-molds' which I swapped in
Nice, I bet it sounds sweet. The 6 speed is a great ZF transmission, and that is also a great looking color, that has to be a rare combo as well. With you 100% on the only year with older exterior, newer interior, I just love that about the 90, love the wheels as well:) Definitely easier to work on then I first thought years ago, was kind of intimidating at first lol, and thank you very much by the way🤝
Beautiful C4. Never had an L98, but I drove some of my friends in local Corvette clubs, very strong from the bottom. I had all LT1s 92-96 in every color except yellow... ALWAYS loved the look of the yellows just never worked out, lol. My friends gave me a lot of grief because I traded them a lot. My favorite was a 95 Admiral Blue, it was faster than all of the rest, these cars vary pretty wildly in actual horsepower on the dyno, the Admiral was 319 bone stock. I had 2 black and a 96 LT4 silver collector was my last one with a bone stock horsepower of 344. Gm didnt want to spoil the release of the next gen 97 C5, they knew about the fluctuating HP especially in the LT4s and didn't want to spoil the C5 debut, but it got out pretty quickly when some LT4s were outrunning C5s on occasion in the stoplight grand prix on the street. C4s are my favorite value in a sports car, cant beat em there. Enjoyed the video.
Comments like this are my favorite part of this channel, good info and accurate 100% from someone who has had many C4's❤️🇺🇲 Those LT4's are animals lol. Had a good friend who had a lot to drink one night and I was the only one he'd let drive his 96 LT4, he told me go ahead and punch it, that motor is SO underrated haha, loved it. And thank you so much for your kindness, glad you liked the video:) I STILL haven't driven an LT1 Corvette but had a 94 Z28 with a 6 speed, love the torque curve, they pull hard to about 6k, you may have just talked me into getting an lt1 C4 hahaha, thanks again for the awesome comment, this is one of my favorites 🤝
the 89 and 90’ vettes had those wheels. I have an 89 and it came originally with those wheels, Ended up putting them away and got A-mold replicas in a 11 rear 9.5 front. 285 front, 315 rear
I had an 89 Corvette, Z51 M6, good year. Wheels were very similar except 89's had centercaps, held on by a screw. Can't go wrong with the A-molds though. I wonder if some late 89's came with the later 1990 wheels?
@@Feral80sKid - not under the seat, behind it in the cargo area. one of the bins got partially taken up by it. the other being completely taken up by the ABS system. It's in with the jack.
Richard Holdner said that the mid 90s lT1s could be converted back to a distributor on top rear by some modifications to the intake or just change it over to carbs
C4 has grown on me, prices are just right. Been looking at a GR Corolla and C6 Z.... but like you, I'd rather not be in debt. Want a fun car, think performance is good enough?
Great comment, I just sold the GR Corolla, loved it but not the price haha. Performance is definitely good enough in these, more so in the 92+ LT1, or even better the 1996 LT4, they pull hard and are underrated in horsepower, amd prices are way less for a clean example than the Corolla or C6, both of those are sweet cars too though. If you do get a 85-91 with the TPI they respond well to mods, hope that helps.
Do you know what brand/model the windshield wiper blades should be? I bought wipers off of Rock Auto for my 1995 C4 and they are way too tall i.e. they hit the hood and chipped the paint. I'm not happy with Rock Auto there. They clearly need to be at least 3/8" shorter to clear the hood without damaging the paint.
As far as OEM I'm not sure sorry, but Rain-X makes some awesome ones, get the highest price ones, Rain X silicone, they are fantastic, and last forever, think they're about $60 for a set but so worth it. Advance Auto Parts carry them, or Ebay. OEM size calls for 19 inch both sides but if necessary get an inch shorter each, should be ok with 19's, have seen some sites say 20, that's probably the problem, too long I think.
My uncle had a crossfire 84 vette with low miles all stock i swear it out ran a reg 94 corvette and a 96 lt4 corvette and 1 c5 auto car was a damn freak
Did a Renegade manifold on my 84, exhaust, bumped base timing up 2 degrees and took off a bit of weight, they can definitely run strong. I love the crossfire personally, they sound good too.
Hi Brian, love your car and color, mine is similarly equipped, same axle ratio, low miles but Bright Red. I hope you can help me with an issue with coolant temps, if you have the C68 automatic environment controls. Are you familiar with viewing the digital water temp on the air conditioning digital readout? If so can you tell me what temp yours indicates when fully cold, before you start the engine? Mine indicates 40F above ambiant before starting and continues to indicate +40F as it warms and reaches operating temp. The readout is in centigrade(119) but the conversion is 246F, which I know is really around 210F (confirmed with infrared thermometer). Thanks
Hey:) Thanks much, I had a red 1990 also, it really looks good on a C4, love it. First I'm hearing of being able to read the coolant temp on the AC readout, pretty cool. Next time I drive it I'll look into it and see what mine says, then I'll comment on here for you👍
Nice, factory kicks them in way too high (about 230ish) for my taste, regardless if some say they are meant to run at that temp., I turn on my defrost or AC at 210, most I like to see. May burn out your fans keeping them running at all times but PCM of North Carolina will make you a custom chip for about $80, you can tell them what idle rpm you want, vats bypass, fan on/off temps etc., it's a good option. But worst case is those fan motors are easy to replace and cheap, beats doing a head gasket or worse.
I really like these, I am an SUV guy have a Tahoe and a Suburban lol but couple years ago I picked one of these up, I have me an 85, in Bronze, was a special dealer order or something I guess, it's an automatic but that's okay for me, but everything is original, 90K miles on it, really love the retro dashboard !
Nice, we had a 2003 GMC Yukon, LOVED that SUV lol, I feel you on those:) Yeah I'm also a big fan of the digital dash, sounds like a sweet Vette. A C4 is such a unique driving experience, like they're not how you imagined it just by looking at the outside of one, to me it's like driving a classic exotic car with a musclecar soul/sound.
My Tahoe is 2001, she's got 350K miles on it, I rolled it 6 years ago but still daily it. The suburban is 2003, The replacement after the crash, but I decided the Tahoe was my favorite still and kept them both. lol The Vette I picked up from some one he had 3, the 85 a 98 and 05. They were about to be auctioned off so i snagged the 85. I am not really a car kinda guy but the Vette is really nice. It's a definite change up from the riding style the big boats feel like for sure, and I'm probably going to hold onto it for a long time.
@NotableEcho Glad to hear you're keeping the Vette, and glad you're ok from the wreck too, wanted a Tahoe or Suburban after watching Clear and Present Danger long ago lol, darn things are tanks, comfortable and cool looking too, not to mention incredibly reliable!
@@Feral80sKid hey thanks, all is well actually, it did roll about 3 or 4 times? Who counts I guess lol but no the the only injury sustained was the pressure from the seatbelt left a mark. I picked it up from the tow yard and said I was going to bring it home that same day, he looked at me kinda funny and said ‘you know it’s totaled right?’ It was actually already salvage title so I said, Again? lol Ultimately there were some minor things that how now become permanent qwerks, but it doesn’t look like it was in a crash like it was. Absolutely love this thing, have taken down to Texas and back twice from Northern Minnesota, the burban too, they will literally run forever, best investment of my life probably lol
Wow, truly a testimony to how good those were built, no joke about a great investment. Sure wish I'd have kept the Yukon, they don't build stuff like that anymore:)
I also have a 1990 base. Mine has the ZF six speed which, don't get me wrong, I love but.....they are expensive to repair. Finding a replacement is a crap-shoot. I think you'll end up being happier knowing if your 700 R4 ever gives you problems, many GM vehicles from that era had the same transmission, people are very familiar with it and repairs should not be too bad.
Got a guy here in Socal that rebuilds them, some like Bill ZFDoc in Az Price is about the same. THing is properly done a ZF will last the rest of your life they are so stout. Sunk thousands in a brand new 95 T56 no way will it take the poundings my zf did.
@@patrickcarnahan2751 Ron at TRC trans in Chatsworth Ca. Been my trans guy for decades. Google ZF doc in Cave creek az bill boudreaux . Id use Ron as I know him personallly hes done auto ODs and tricked out 6 spds for me. Reasonable, stands behind his work.
The c4's suspension, brakes, and irs setup are damn near perfect. Sure you buy an 89 corvette and the suspension, engine etc... is all gonna be worn out, the archaic efi is gonna be finicky with the wiring having petrified, so outside of a low mi example, you'll have some work ahead, but parts are cheap relatively anyway. And if performance is your thing, these cars will accept an Ls of whatever description or building the factory L98 out to 400hp 400lbft is about as straight forward as it gets. Only thing I'd recommend as an absolute is replacing the factory ecu with a programmable stand alone system and the wiring (old wiring will make you hate any car). These aren't obd2 until 1996 so no plugging in from 95 on back to 84. And ecu choices for those who don't want to drop $1000 on a holley unit or ...etc... Fitech, Black Aces, Speeduino etc.. all offer stand alone ecu's with the features of the big name bucks up deals at a fraction of the price
@@Feral80sKid my dads had his 84 c4 since I graduated high school and went into the military back in 2000. Early this spring the 700r4 decided it'd had quite enough and went kablooey. Unfortunately the engine was damaged in the process but i sent up the bat signal and got ahold of an ls1 rotating assembly and an iron 4.8 5.3 block that's been machined to acce6the bigger pistons and im about finished with his iron ls1. He hasn't decided yet what transmission he wants so when he does thatll be this winters project. I'd like to do a Muncie 4 speed with a gear vendors under overdrive that way it'd be like the doug nash 4+3 only you know... functional lol
Awesome, first time I drove a C4 it was an 86 with the 4+3, belonged to a good friend of mine, fell in love with C4's after that , super t10 with overdrive, LOVED the way it shifted.
Nice, the LT1 has lots to be able to do. The cheap route is throttle body coolant bypass, K&N filter, remove spare tire/jack. Mild cam, heads etc would be next. Not sure on where the O2's are on a 95 but a front racing y-pipe helps. I'd start with a good tune up first if mileage is higher, plugs/wires, opti spark etc., go with synthetic oil, transmission fluid and rear diff fluid for a little bump in hp as well, if it's an automatic go with a TransGo shift kit, will shift nice and smooth driving normally but shift harder and quicker under full throttle, it'll also put a bit more power to the wheels.
A beautiful Vette and a good, informative video. Would you say these cars can still have genuine daily driver capability? I guess the mechanicals aren't a problem but what about the electrics and other things?
Hey thanks a lot, really appreciate it. Correct, mechanicals are pretty good and reliable if maintained etc., the electrics same besides the bose speakers or radio computer under dash, more people seem to have problems with the 84 as some didn't have GM's wiring harness recall completed. Also the digital dash in 84-89 could need rebuilt but batee.com can help you there unless you can solder yourself. You could daily one but not the easiest to get in and out of lol, headlight plastic gears will wear fast or break in cold winters with ice/snow if you have that where you are.
I use mine as a daily driver for the 8 months a year we don't have snow, and so far have only put rear wheel bearings on it ($120), and put about 20k miles a year on it for the last 10 years... tho I do know it'll likely need an optispark in the next couple years, I may have been lucky so far that I haven't had to put one on yet('95-'96 will last a lot longer before needing optispark replaced due to GM adding a vacuum vent hose to it for those 2 years), and the '95-'96 don't squeak or rattle due to GM adding more padding etc behind interior trim panels after complaints of trim noises in earlier years of C4's, and it is a huge difference, a massive difference in interior sweak and rattle noises, it would almost be hard to exaggerate the difference, my '95 is silent inside, my friends '91 is a symphony of rattles and squeaks....
Really thinking of adding the felt kit that the 95/96 has, does make a big difference you're right. Didn't know there was an actual hose to the vented opti, good info! That's awesome you drive it daily, life isn't easy but driving a C4 every day helps:)
@Feral80sKid I gotta be honest, but now that you mention it, since I haven't had to replace my optispark yet, I'm really not sure if that vacuum line is factory or if the previous owner added it, but it does look stock. I do know the previous owner added a hose to the underside of the waterpump so that if the weep hole leaks anything, it will come out the hose below the optispark. He threaded the weep hole and added a barbed fitting and hose to it. All I've added is a short looped cable to each hood release, the cables sit under the cowl and under the wipers, so if my hood release cable ever breaks I can unlatch each side by pulling the little looped cables I added, and won't have to fight thru the door jam with a long rod, or cur holes in the hood to get the latches to release... ..a lesson I learned before I got my car, from a friend that had his hood release cable break, and took us half a day to pop the latches by going past the door hinges with a 4 foot steel rod with a 90° bend on the end.... I highly recommend adding the back up hood release cables, that factory cable takes a fair bit of stress to release those two latches
Really good question, no. BUT, in this order or it could. With car off disconnect est wire from video, tan with black stripe. Start car let warm up to operating temp., adjust timing, shut off engine. Disconnect battery for 5 minutes, plug in est wire BEFORE re-attaching battery cables, do cables, start her up and enjoy:) Make sure to run 91+ octane after you do this..... 87 is 1 of my favorite years by the way, nice!
Thanks for the tip. I think I will try it. I just installed long tubes and x pipe last summer and it seemed to wake it up a little. Curious that this mod would do.
I really wish I could get one of these, I absolutely love the C4. However, I'm 17, unemployed, and don't even have my license yet. I'm afraid once I get a job and a license that C4 prices will be through the roof :(
Used to pass a red C4 everyday on my way to high school every morning:) I hear you, you'd be surprised though, there's always a good deal on a C4. Once you get your license comment on here, I'll send you a link to one👍
They wont. They are cheap fora reason most need more $ thrown at them than they could be worth .A clean 1-2 owner driver gets more but worth it. Worst vettes to buy are the cheapest "Fixers'. Not gonna happen
why do you have the brake light in back on top? They only did that for ZR1 vetted only?? I had 2 metallic Gold 1978 trans ams in 86. drove it to high school. had T Tops 4 speed hurst. 400 high output 220 HP. I currently have a 1993 40th Anniversary Corvette. LT1 Auto. 44,000 miles. bought mine for $10k. I live in Joshua Tree CA
I think it was 85 or 86 and up C4's had the 3rd brake light from the factory? So you had the W72 Trans Am then! Awesome, had a 78 Formula in high school, 350 4 speed, and recently a blue 78 TA W72, great minds think alike:) Actually have this car for sale atm, really thinking about a 96 LT4 car, or maybe a 6th gen Camaro LT1. Love the C4 LT1 btw, had a 94 Z28 6 speed. The 78 is on the channel here if you wanna see it, was a pretty Martinique Blue. Good stuff, you have great taste in cars🤙🇺🇲
I'm in the process of buying a '93 convertible w/ LT1 and the 6 speed ZF manual. Guess what color? Yellow over black, just like yours. Good luck with it. Let me know if you know some great used parts suppliers. There is a little chip in the passenger side front light bucket.
NICE, I love the ZF 6 speed in the C4, they shift so nice and smooth, and clutch feels perfect, congrats my friend, color combo definitely works for me:) As far as parts suppliers keep an eye out on Ebay and Facebook marketplace often, you'll be surprised, and Mirrock Corvette for used stuff. New parts are Corvette Central, Mid America etc., same to you, enjoy the ride!
@@Feral80sKid Thanks! I’ll let you know how the car is after the purchase later this week. I hope to have it in my garage a week from today. We'll see... ;-) Jim
The automatic prices are somewhat reasonable, but man, trying to find a 92-96 with a manual is crazy. Less than 10 within 300 miles of me, and they're all either very high mileage, or over 20k. I could get a C6 with and LS3 for those prices instead, haha.
I totally agree, it's getting to a point on a lot of classic cars where it's just not worth it anymore for what you get. I really like the Datsun 240z and the 280zx turbo with a manual, had a few over the years, now I'll never own another one, not for these insane prices:/
Ill never pay a ton for a C4. Maybe low teens for a nice low miler maybe. Dont think most with moderate or over 100k high will get expensive. Many try but at the end of the day they are cheap like an old mb or bmw cause they need too much $ to make them half decent. Here in Ca Ive seen clean 80k mile C5s for under 10k. So why pay more for a worn c4
I've been on the fence about which gen corvette I wanted. Was suck between either a c3, c4, or a c5 because a c6 is still too expensive and this kind of nudged me into the c4 market a little harder due to the face that I didn't know that the c4 DIDN'T come with the LT1 with that god awful optispark before 91
I hear you, I do LOVE the lt1 and all but I just love the look of the tpi, really cool looking, and for sure a lot of things are easier to fix. I love all Vettes too but like you the C4 is just right for my budget, interest rates are ridiculous right now so I won't do a loan. There are really good deals sometimes on them too:)
They're definitely high on the cool and fun factor:) In my own experience I've never had a problem with either the 700R4 like in my 90 or the 4L60E say in a 95, have heard people say the same though. Actually selling this because I found a good deal on a 2024 Camaro, last year for those, bummer :/ Typically the 700R4 seems to last a lot longer before needing a rebuild though. Whichever you choose, find a good transmission shop and have them install you a TransGo shift kit, it'll last a long time, shouldn't be more than $300 for parts/labor, shifts quick but ultra smooth under normal driving, hard and quick under full throttle, you'll love it, a bit more hp to the wheels as well👌
I've done rear wheel bearings in the last 60k miles on my '95... that's it, nothing else has needed repaired and it has started every time I've turned the key since I got it in 2014. Doing only $120 of rear wheel bearings over 10 years seems quite reliable to me... and you could buy $30 bearings if ya wanted to, or spend $700 on them if yur wallet can handle it, or any price in-between if ya shop at Rockauto. It's even cheap on gas if ya don't spank it too hard (10.5 L/100klm (or around 27-29 mpg I think it is for the americans out there)) ..and insurance thru Hagerty is only about $200 a year if it's insured as a collector car and only gets driven to cars&coffee for weekend meets and not used as your daily driver...
160 was too cold for my car no matter the time of year. It would not let my car get up to operating temp to enter closed loop. The 180 t stat fixed that and keeps it running cool.
Dang, nice! The 7.0 liter 505hp, one of my favorites. Top Gear UK did a test on one around their track, they....and I was amazed at the cars it beat costing at least twice as much.
That's a really good question, had a chance to get a 2024 Camaro at a great discount, just an LT1 but I really wanted a manual V8 car, didn't know until recently but they only made about 12,800, lowest production year ever. Wish I could afford to keep both, I REALLY loved the yellow 90, thought of driving it daily but it was too nice to put through winter/road salt.
Thank you. I purchased mine in 2021 for $17,000. It’s like getting it off the assembly line but I was very impressed with the condition of yours too. Good buy!
I have a white '95 that is about 80% perfect (needs weatherstripping as per usual), it is completely stock right own to original mufflers. I got it almost for free, cuz previous owner decided it was too difficult to get in and out of, after it sat for a year untouched in her garage cuz she broke her femur the day before it was delivered to her in canada from Arizona where it was bought... So far after nearly 100k kilometers (60k miles), I've put rear wheel bearings on it, and I'm about to change the fuel pump, everything else has been perfect, even the optispark it came with is still working fine without a miss(tho I know it's time will come sooner or later).. ..it's been about the most reliable daily driver I've ever had (from April to Oct, cuz it just won't move when there's snow on the ground, other than in circles). I'm betting their prices start going up real quick as gas cars are eliminated and replaced with electric cars that so far all just suck based on their high costs to buy, insure and repair, difficulty in repair, short ranges etc... Gotta admit, I'm a little jealous of the glovebox, the door armrest hubby's don't hold much, and the console barely holds the manual along with the Corvette logo'd pen and flashlight that came with it from the factory...(my flashlight works, but the pen does need a new ink cartridge due to drying out over nearly 30 years... I even still have the thick red gel letter kit for the back bumper that was never installed new in pkg(I figure the letters would just be a pain to work around when trying to wax the car, so they'll never be installed. I should probly sell them along with the clear blue tinted spare roof that I also will never use, cuz it turns the car into a greenhouse, raising interior temp by 10°-20° if there's sunshine).. Don't get the x brace for underneath the chassis, get the 2 bars that go on the outside of the frame rails and put tension on the rails. The X brace reduces ground clearance by nearly 3 inches, and the floor of the car is already close enuff to the ground...
Ah, yeah....I saw those bars you're talking about, thanks for reminding me, like the sound of those better, and people seem to like them. Theu sure look good in white too, my 84 was. Really appreciate the info, 95 is a great year too, along with the power. Not a fan of the electric upcoming "mandate" either, hopefully those clowns are all out of office one day soon.
@@leshi3489 So are haters, but hey I wear Sketchers not New Balances. Honestly though, some owners I can't stand, some are the nicest people you'll meet.
I would too lol, one of my favorite cars ever. Did a review on dad's 1990 ZR1 on the channel here, red on red 1990. We did muffler delete, k&n filter and Haibeck chip, awesome.
Yeah, with a heavy heart. Don't wanna have to work until I'm too old to enjoy it so I invested the funds, hopefully all goes well and I can find one with fisher t tops and black interior this time, same blue exterior:) God I miss it already though
Haha true, already have. Agreed, it's such a neat car:) Some things are tricky but mostly C4's haven't beat me up too bad to work on, just hated doing a heater core on an 88 Vette I had, didn't remove the dash just worked under it.
Haha, I always thought the same. There is definitely an air of exotic to look at and drive it:) Yeah I'd take a salvage one too if it was ok structurally 100%
It’s a nice C4, but once the “rare numbers” talk started I lost interest. The old adage “every corvette owner can quote some option that makes their corvette super rare and more valuable than yours” stands true a little more often than most would like to admit lol.
Thanks, see where you're coming from and all but just sold it, this one's just rare being a yellow 90 with sport seats in the end, nothing too special.
HEre come all the "but the new turbo xxx makes so " comments. Useless, show me your 4 or 6 cyl granny car from 1990 that would do similar performance. Yes, gramma looked better at 49 than she does at 89. Ugh..
Hey if she gets you from A to B, all that matters:) Ended up getting a 91 Camaro RS to drive daily, video coming soon, needed more work that I thought but it's almost done finally.
Tinting a car is useless. And adds nothing to its worth. My vette has factory tint. And I love it. If your real cars get old. Tinting just makes it ghetto...dismissed.
@@garypiont6114 Real dark does...light smoke gets it done, Im in ca so it all helps. They have tint out thats not even visible depends what you wanna spend I do changes that I like to the car, never for value. There really isnt on most these C4s they arent colectible.
@@racingdreamz8021 Lol, driven a lot of different cars, the C4 has it's faults but it beat Porsche in it's class for so many years it got banned from SCCA, wouldn't say it sucks, sucks to get in and out of maybe.

@@Feral80sKid The one I'm looking at is a 1993 with the LT1 engine 300 HP and 340 TQ I believe. The LT4 is a even nicer, I bet you love yours!

90 is first year with a coolant reserve tank
90 first year air bag on driver side only, nice that your airbag is working as dash light goes off 5 seconds after starting engine, haha I was watching for that

These wheels were a one-year-only (1990) offering. '88 and '89 Z-51/Z-52 came equipped with "smoothies" with centercaps...
I had an 88 too with the standard one year only wheels (base), hadn't really seen those before owning it, can't imagine they were very popular lol
@@Feral80sKid I see what you mean, very small discrepancy but definitely different, My apologies, great looking car!!
@nikeiddude123 No worries at all! And thank you very much, means a lot:)
94-96 had the air bag where the glove box is. The radio "brain" moved to behind the passenger seat those years.
Ah ok, appreciate the info. Smart moving it under the seat, much better than under the already tight under dash area.
@@Feral80sKid - not under the seat, behind it in the cargo area. one of the bins got partially taken up by it. the other being completely taken up by the ABS system. It's in with the jack.
@mhicks5008 Nice
Richard Holdner said that the mid 90s lT1s could be converted back to a distributor on top rear by some modifications to the intake or just change it over to carbs
Nice, I've heard of people doing that. Think I just saw something on a forum of one with a similar setup, was still injected too.
Starts on a dime
Cool.
Next time I drive it I'll look into it and see what mine says, then I'll comment on here for you👍
@@Feral80sKid Great, thanks
i made my fan run when ever the engine is running - never goes above 180 deg f
The suburban is 2003, The replacement after the crash, but I decided the Tahoe was my favorite still and kept them both. lol
The Vette I picked up from some one he had 3, the 85 a 98 and 05.
I picked it up from the tow yard and said I was going to bring it home that same day, he looked at me kinda funny and said ‘you know it’s totaled right?’ It was actually already salvage title so I said, Again? lol
Ultimately there were some minor things that how now become permanent qwerks, but it doesn’t look like it was in a crash like it was.
I have a 1990 conv. with the hard top it's being painted Has a new sft top and new weatherstripping. Had a 95 opti spark issues to much trouble
Nice, I really love the 90 exterior being the first year with newer interior. I'm with you on the opti, otherwise I really like the lt1.
Nice, had a ZF in an 89 Z51 I had, shifted nice and smooth, loved it. True, the 700r4 is a dime a dozen.
Got a guy here in Socal that rebuilds them, some like Bill ZFDoc in Az
Price is about the same. THing is properly done a ZF will last the rest of your life they are so stout. Sunk thousands in a brand new 95 T56 no way will it take the poundings my zf did.

Thanks for the info, I would absolutely LOVE to have one of these with an LS1/6, T56 swap❤️❤️
@@Feral80sKid my dads had his 84 c4 since I graduated high school and went into the military back in 2000. Early this spring the 700r4 decided it'd had quite enough and went kablooey. Awesome, first time I drove a C4 it was an 86 with the 4+3, belonged to a good friend of mine, fell in love with C4's after that , super t10 with overdrive, LOVED the way it shifted.
I really like the C4s Vettes the only thing I don’t like about them is the lack of leg room for both the driver and passenger.
It is kinda tight there
beautiful vett $?
Thank you very much❤️🤝
I just got a 95, do you have any recommendations to squeeze a little more HP out of the engine?
Thanks for the information I really appreciate it.
@tompowers85 Very welcome
Higher stall and gears
Headers, hotcam heads the usual stuff.
I daily drove mine for 5 years . Sold it to my dad and now he drives it daily. Never had any problems except for normal things. Oil change brakes etc
I have a 87. Will bumping up the timing throw off computer settings or will it self adjust?
@Thenardog1975 No prob:) I think you'll be happy with it.
I really wish I could get one of these, I absolutely love the C4. However, I'm 17, unemployed, and don't even have my license yet. I'm afraid once I get a job and a license that C4 prices will be through the roof :(

Awesome, had a 78 Formula in high school, 350 4 speed, and recently a blue 78 TA W72, great minds think alike:) Actually have this car for sale atm, really thinking about a 96 LT4 car, or maybe a 6th gen Camaro LT1.
So why pay more for a worn c4
do you still have this car?
Oh yeah, definitely.
If one needs a cup holder, get a mini van.
😂I'd almost rather walk lol
I agree. I drive when Im in a car no need for cupholders USB ports screens etc
It’s tpi until 91’ body..1992 the lt1 debuted ..
I'd love to buy a C4 and have my eyes on a couple of 1995s. The problem is everyone keeps saying the transmission is an issue in 1995. Is that true?
They're definitely high on the cool and fun factor:) In my own experience I've never had a problem with either the 700R4 like in my 90 or the 4L60E say in a 95, have heard people say the same though. Actually selling this because I found a good deal on a 2024 Camaro, last year for those, bummer :/ Typically the 700R4 seems to last a lot longer before needing a rebuild though. Whichever you choose, find a good transmission shop and have them install you a TransGo shift kit, it'll last a long time, shouldn't be more than $300 for parts/labor, shifts quick but ultra smooth under normal driving, hard and quick under full throttle, you'll love it, a bit more hp to the wheels as well👌
Get one with a 6 speed
@gerardgalletta6943 Absolutely can't go wrong there either, the ZF is one of the most enjoyable manuals I've ever driven❤️🔥
can we call a c4 reliable?
When you take care of stuff and know what you are doing anything is reliable
@CallforthePriest Most things anyway lol
Drivetrane-wise mine have all been great
I've done rear wheel bearings in the last 60k miles on my '95... that's it, nothing else has needed repaired and it has started every time I've turned the key since I got it in 2014.
Doing only $120 of rear wheel bearings over 10 years seems quite reliable to me... and you could buy $30 bearings if ya wanted to, or spend $700 on them if yur wallet can handle it, or any price in-between if ya shop at Rockauto.
It's even cheap on gas if ya don't spank it too hard (10.5 L/100klm (or around 27-29 mpg I think it is for the americans out there))
..and insurance thru Hagerty is only about $200 a year if it's insured as a collector car and only gets driven to cars&coffee for weekend meets and not used as your daily driver...
Since its a tune port thermostat is easy so just put a 160 in it and if its not warm enough in winter sawp it again
160 was too cold for my car no matter the time of year. It would not let my car get up to operating temp to enter closed loop. The 180 t stat fixed that and keeps it running cool.
That's what I'm running in my 91 Camaro👍👌
My dad has a 2012 black zo6 with carbon fiber
Dang, nice! The 7.0 liter 505hp, one of my favorites. Top Gear UK did a test on one around their track, they....and I was amazed at the cars it beat costing at least twice as much.
Brian - why did you sell this car ?
That's a really good question, had a chance to get a 2024 Camaro at a great discount, just an LT1 but I really wanted a manual V8 car, didn't know until recently but they only made about 12,800, lowest production year ever. Wish I could afford to keep both, I REALLY loved the yellow 90, thought of driving it daily but it was too nice to put through winter/road salt.
how much did you pay again??
I have $14k in the Vette.....
Thank you. I purchased mine in 2021 for $17,000. It’s like getting it off the assembly line but I was very impressed with the condition of yours too. Good buy!
Thanks much, yeah the nice ones are on the rise, you did good too, heck nothings cheap anymore lol

You are correct, but GM did rate it at 250hp with the performance exhaust in 1990.
Z 51 with performance rear end was rated at 250 hp
Lol. One problem, you better be ready to work on that engines. People are missing out on the C4 and mechanics want to run from the SBC 350

I just sold it last week :/ Really sorry, damn. Would've loved to have sold it to a UA-cam viewer instead.
HEre come all the "but the new turbo xxx makes so "
comments. Useless, show me your 4 or 6 cyl granny car from 1990 that would do similar performance. Yes, gramma looked better at 49 than she does at 89. Ugh..
Absolutely:)
Payment free is the way in today’s economic climate, food is the new car payment…
Well said my friend, sure is
I just picked up a 03 accord, ugliest car. But 4 500 bucks a deal. I'm using trex tape to mask the rust
Hey if she gets you from A to B, all that matters:) Ended up getting a 91 Camaro RS to drive daily, video coming soon, needed more work that I thought but it's almost done finally.
That’s extremely low miles
Oh yeah, pretty low, thankful to have it, and thank you
I hope you don't tint it.
Why would you not tint it? Would that not protect the interior from fading?
@jefife750 Guess he doesn't like the look, thought about doing 30% ceramic tint if I end up keeping it but it doesn't see the sun much anyway
Tinting a car is useless. And adds nothing to its worth. My vette has factory tint. And I love it. If your real cars get old. Tinting just makes it ghetto...dismissed.
@@Feral80sKid Light smoke all around is fine doesnt affect night vision .
Making the back super dark sucks dont do it
@@garypiont6114 Real dark does...light smoke gets it done, Im in ca so it all helps.
They have tint out thats not even visible depends what you wanna spend
I do changes that I like to the car, never for value. There really isnt on most these C4s they arent colectible.
Tach don't work. Car is junk. Just kidding . It's nice
C4 honestly sucks
@@racingdreamz8021 Lol, driven a lot of different cars, the C4 has it's faults but it beat Porsche in it's class for so many years it got banned from SCCA, wouldn't say it sucks, sucks to get in and out of maybe.
@@Feral80sKid I’ve had a few of them over the years, But I skip right over them these days for the c6/c7 in a manual trans, It’s much more of a car for men of this generation
Well, can't deny the C7, we have a 17 with the M7, night and day difference putting it mildly lol.
@@racingdreamz8021 I have had two C4s, one C5, and I have a C6Z right now. I still miss my C4s. Call it nostalgia, call it whatever you will, but I love those cars. What it lacked in the power department it made up for in other ways, at least for me.
