    Flood mode-hold the pedal down then turn the key and let it go like that then let off the gas and it will start up from being flooded. Needs a fuel filter prob from sitting for that long and having shitty gas

    • @classicperformance
      @classicperformance  2 роки тому

      Yes, unsure what the starting issue was flooded or not, most likely something not performing correctly in the injection I suspect from sitting. Seemed it was starving for fuel especially at idle. We have since installed a new NAPA Gold (Wix) inline fuel filter under the car which is fitted with quick-connects. Blowing through the old one once removed black gunk came out of it. Looked to be the original.

    • @darrinwatts9229
      @darrinwatts9229 2 роки тому

      Its fuel injection. No flooding of fuel. Evidently you both are clueless on how fuel injection. And the rotors NOT rusty proves it was driven recently. Even if it is dirty.

    • @classicperformance
      @classicperformance  2 роки тому +1

      @@darrinwatts9229 The car was not flooded as it might be with a carburation setup (excessive puddled fuel) however with EFI, if an injector sticks or the spray pattern is irregular, EFI motors can indeed "flood". However, I don't feel flooding is the case. If an EFI "flood" opening the throttle body to allow full air flow will indeed help an overly fueled car to clear even if it is EFI. IT appears that the initial issue was lack of fuel as there was no excessive black exhaust output upon starting which would be the case if it was excessive fuel.

    @richardelliott8352 Рік тому +1

    enjoyed the video, and think a C5 is a good choice for a specialty used car, because I also bought a used one. One thing I would do differently from the content creator is to hold off on the High Milage Oil. . It is marketed in response to how people now generally keep their cars longer, so it should sell well, but the true issue here is not the milage, it's the oil seals.
    High Milage Oil has an additive package to slightly swell worn seals, and some old cars might have worn seals, but if your seals are fine, and with modern oils with proper care they should be. With High Milage oil, you have just chemically treated every oil seal to now be slightly outside of the correct original design size.. And any oil seal should preform better and last longer, in the size it was designed to be.
    There is a consumer help line offered on every Mobil ! container , and when I asked about high milage oil for my high milage car, the first question I was asked was if I had any oil leaks. I said I did not, they said I didn't need high milage oil. I had called because the High milage container lacked the Dextos symbol that is kind of a guideline for correct Corvette oil, but was checking if the high milage additive package was still an old style that matched the LS1 better than modern regular Mobil 1. It didn't , they had moved on. I also asked about fuel saving mobil !, which would not be an opimum C5 oil choice because it is designed for modern valve trains, not an LS 1 valve train.

    Great video with TONS of tips, thanks! I've commented on another video of yours in this series. But I wanted your thoughts specifically on the Walmart battery. I bought an '03 AT coupe about 3 months ago with a 3 year old Red Top Optima in it from the previous owner. I took 2 days to drive it from Nebraska to Montana with no trouble. After getting here, I used the car for repeated short trips while doing some work on it. I eventually got the dreaded 1214 code for the EBCM and found out one possible cause apart from the module was an insufficiently charged battery, so I investigated that first. Long story short, I've replaced the tensioner pulley, serpentine belt, battery and finally the alternator. I just wanted to eliminate a bad battery as the culprit so I got a cheap Walmart Everstart battery after watching this. The charging system now seems to be working properly (the alternator may be overcharging, I'll have to wait and see; and the 1214 code is still there) but I wondered if you ever fill your Walmart batteries with distilled water. How often do you check that and how often do you replace those batteries?

    • @classicperformance
      @classicperformance  2 роки тому +1

      Homer, thanks for your continued interest and question. Around the year 2001, I started buying Everstart batteries exclusively because it's easy and there is a wide selection of options being sizes and performance/waranty from "economy" to "Maxx" and they represent good value. I bought an economy 22 years ago for an old MGB I picked up and paid $39 for it at Wal-Mart. It lasted just over 10 years. Probabally have bought 20 batteries there since then. I currently have 10 batteries/vehicles with them including a lawn mower. They will last 5 years. But, very often many will go 7-8 years and I currently have a larger high CCA Maxx at 10 years of age. The one thing with lead acid batteries in a C5 is to assure there is no leakage from it as it will damage the wiring harness below and associated components. A battery mat is a good idea. Best of luck with your car! I have loved mine!

    Hi I have the same car sitting in my garage for about 9 years (30k miles) and with this process I had 3 main questions to get the car running. Did you (or do you recommend) siphoning any existing fuel that was already in the tank before you add the new stuff? And did you change the oil before you started the car? And also roughly how many times did you turn the engine before it started idling on its own? I enjoyed the series btw and it would be great if you could help me out with these questions or any other recommendations, Thanks ( also do you think the convertible top will still work after 9 years?)

    • @classicperformance
      @classicperformance  Рік тому +1

      The car had very little fuel in it so I diluted it with fresh non-ethanol, fresh battery, checked all the fluids and considering it has always had spec Mobile 1 synthetic, and did not look too bad, I left it all alone. The starting trial was about as long as you saw in the video. If your car has a lot of fuel, it would be worth getting it out if possible. I also ran several tank fulls of Chevron Techron through it and did so with heavy dose upon first filling with 10 gal of fuel. Best of luck!!

    • @classicperformance
      @classicperformance  2 роки тому +2

      Darrin, if you noticed we put "barn find" in double quotations. In the english language this suggests it is not really a barn. Double quotations suggest irony or is used to identify words used as words instead of for their original meaning. We know it is not a barn and that is why the title is done that way to be clear and let the viewer know we did not mean an actual barn. Formal english language and writing education in mind, will discount your comment. We appreciate your interest and view.
