This is actually the first time I have ever seen somebody talk about costs in tennis so openly. Thank you so much for your transparency! I really wish you all the best for the upcoming months, keep grinding and you’re getting to your first atp point!🤗
You should take a look at Operation Liftoff. Alex Donsky, a bulgarian tennis player, shows his way into pro tennis and talks a little about earnings, costs, etc. He hasn't been posting that much tho
One of the biggest regrets I have looking back at my tennis career (top 100 USA & played at a small D1 school) was not taking ownership of the costs. If I had half the mindset you have back then I think I could have taken it farther. This is really awesome to see going to keep up with your career!
Been watching for about 4 years now we're the same age, but I'm ending my tennis journey this year as I go to college, but I pray for the best for you and your journey to reach new heights. You were one of the channels that I watched consistently when I first started playing about four years ago couldn't thank you enough for the motivation. Good luck
Today was my first tournament of 2022. I won the first round 11-9 in the third saving 2 match points. I lose on the second round 12-10 in the tie break and in the second set I was having 5 match points. It was a painful lose. Good luck to your next tournament!
I remember watching Operation Liftoff by Alex Donski a couple years back. He did something similar to what your trying to do but doesn't make that much content anymore. Good to see someone back on it.
How do you manage to get everything? Training, video recording, editing? Does UA-cam take up a lot of your time? Or is it a way for you to rest and relax? You are amazing, I wish you luck on the way to the first ATP point, but that's just the beginning of your journey. My costs for my first ATP point were similar. In Serbia, training is cheaper, while in Australia, for example, I paid $ 100 for 1 hour of private training. In addition to great sacrifice, happy circumstances play a big role, which can raise your self-confidence to a higher level. I was not very lucky to continue after winning a couple of ATP points, and if I came to the ATP list young. Life and tennis experience, work habits, job of a tennis coach is invaluable. You definitely have a level much higher than 1 ATP point, just believe in yourself, and never give up on your goals.
Thank you for your honest estimations including your sponsorship situation. I cannot thank you enough for the depth you go into with your videos. I hope as your channel grows your burden (or your parents’) gets less.
Very informative, and terrifying. I really had no idea. Hats off to your parents for not only seeing your potential but helping you to realize that potential. You are an amazing young man, and I am very excited to one day watch you play tennis at the highest level. To say that I knew him when...
Hey bro! Having the same journey as you, keep it up! One advice I can give you, to not underestimate is to buy a stringing machine (I suggest pro stringer, maybe about 800/900€) and learn how to restring racquets by yourself! Gives you some kind of sense of responsibility but also, if you need some tension changes you can adapt by yourself the second after you step out of a training session, you can just do by yourself the calculation in how much time that money will “come back” to you. Good luck 💪🏼
Is it worth his time? I had my own in college but was breaking strings so frequently it was a chore to come off a court and have to spend 30 min per racket just on that.
My son is 17 and he is also trying like you to get the 1st ATP pont ,we are staying in India in International community ,luckily we have to pay for the tennis court only 10$ per month and I'm couching him myself, so our expenses a much more less, tournament traveling and fees + hotel, can be from 100$ to 300$, 1racket stringing + strings~ 10$ . Here is no much sponsors even for the top players, and we are not Indian origin so it even more difficult. Traveling also can be very tough specialy on summer.Hope you will get 1 st point soon! Good luck Felix!
You are literally living my dream. I am also 18 years old and playing but never got deeper into it. So I hope you are enjoying your carrer and i am looking forward to seeing you on the big stage;)
I played tennis for 8 years,I left it when I was 15,I played professional for 3 years, and I was always shocked about the amount of money my parents paid on me to play tennis,it really made me feel uncomfortable(especially shoes, strings and fuel),I remember when my mother and my grandmother drove me to the court and my grandmother that lived most of her life in a poor village in Morocco said that in her time tennis was only for the richest people and my mother answered that it is still only for the rich,I appreciate my parents so much for that they spent their time and their money for me to be happy,I wish you luck and waiting to see you in big tournaments
same here ...all the family money goes into the tennis for my brother Lucian and me. We both went to school & never gave it all up - so if tennis does not work out we have a good education.
Thank you so much for a very informative video! I know that it costs a shitload of money, to get your first point. I'm married to a former wta 49 player, and I learned what dedication, luck and skill it requires to get all the way to the top. I have played futures in my younger days, but pretty quickly found out, that I didn't have the determination to persue a pro career. So respect and best of luck on your journey, I hope you keep grinding, and stay positive and enjoy every minute of it🙏💪😎. best wishes from Denmark
My 6-year-old will be starting his first private lessons in the first week of August 2022. Looking forward to seeing what I end up paying throughout the year. The goal is to have him take lessons twice a week, plus whatever lessons I tend to give him as well. Thanks for the costs of your journey. Appreciate the whole video and good luck!
Great video, good luck on your journey. I was a county level sprinter as a kid and got to semi pro football level at 16. Played tennis just in the summer with friends Had my first tennis lesson at 27, first tournament at 32 got to 632 UK Open Men’s singles in my late 30’s. That level of investment and commitment from age 7 makes me think if I could have been pushing for an ATP point.
Wow what a fantastic video. Thanks for listening to the fans. There’s always going to be haters on UA-cam, and I hope you learn to ignore them and not let it take over your mind. Keep up the positivity and keep your spirits high. From the videos it’s obvious you’re a fantastic player, but also an amazing human being off the court. Bravo 👏🏾 I watch your videos while eating dinner over Netflix or any other streaming service. Your “hero’s” journey is exceptionally well done, and everyone loves it as well.
I used to get coached by the former coach of Luis Horna and Jaime Izaga (both are peruvian ATP tennis players). When I asked him (my coach) how much did it really cost to form a pro tennis player, he told that in average, per year, you need to spend around 110 000 USD (that includes daily sessions of tennis training, travel costs, equipment, etc.). So, doing the math, if let's say that you want to start your pro tennis career at age 11-12, and assuming that you make it to the ATP circuit at age 17, that's around 5-6 years x 110 000 USD = 550 000 - 660 000 USD in total.
@@seiscero that might work. In Latin America, the best tennis (both in academies, tournaments and junior competition) is in Argentina. For example, Coria, Nalbandian and Pablo Cuevas used to train in an Argentinian academy near Uruguay. Of course in Latin America all expenses are in local currency (Peruvian Soles, Argentinian Pesos), so if you have savings in euros or USD then it will be cheaper for you to train in LATAM. However, junior argentinian players and all junior LATAM players who are competing in the juniors circuit (ITF, Futures), eventually end up traveling to North America and Europe to compete.
I like the way you break it down. I also like your dedication to this sport. On the plus side, the money that has been spent is also paying back dividends beyond any money won. Skills like how to be independent, how to overcome nervousness, commitment to a training schedule, getting up early, practicing all day when you don't want to. All of these skills are transferable to a number of different careers beyond playing tennis. Great job sticking with it and good luck in your quest.
Thank you for the info and details of your journey into tennis. Those are insane numbers, and I wonder how many people just give up on the process of being a professional tennis player, given the costs. My question in your case would be how much confidence you feel in yourself, now that you enter into the true real breakout of your career.. I mean results, and people that are around you giving you support.
Excellent post! Great information! I am a little surprised that when itemizing your expenses, you didn’t include food. The food for an elite athlete is very expensive. Plus, with all the training, I would imagine you eat many small meals/snacks throughout the day. Again, thanks for the info! Have a great 2022!
Good point! We thought about including food - it's another factor. However we decided against that to not make it too detailed. As I normally would eat a LOT and healthy food ( if I would just be a sporty 18 year old ) we thought that we book this under general living costs...
Here in California, private lessons are USD $60-$80 per hour, group lessons are $22-$30 per hour, & club fees are about $100 per month unless it’s public… then it’s about $10-$15 per hour of Court usage.
i mean those club fees and court hire fees are ridiculous, in the uk access to a club with free court booking, a gym, swimming pool, spa , padel courts, etc costs around $100 per month
Great Great video, I really like your content and I wishing the best for you, I'm sure one day we will see you playing ATP 250, 500, masters and Slams, this video is a really good eye opener for everyone who wants to become a pro player, i think tennis is a beautiful sport but is really expensive and that's why sports like football are so popular, making a carrer as a professional or even practicing on a regular basis is so so so much cheaper, but anyway all your sacrifices will pay in a couple of years, just keep the effort.
Wow thanks for the insight! I just started playing tennis a year ago and switched from another sport. Really nasty how expensive tennis on this higher level is! Wish you the best of luck on your journey. You can do it!
Great video explaining the breakdown of all the categories! It's been exciting to follow you on your journey and can't wait to see you get your first dub. Keep up the good work!!!
Hi I hope you will keep the enthusiasm about making these videos beacuse they are pure gold and every tennis fan enjoys them... I am thinking felix auger wins rotterdam today, he played banjaluka challanger 2018, your name is felix, maybe we can see you in banjaluka next year....beautiful new court in the middle of the park, great hospitality, fans who understands the game, night matches, end of summer....maybe
It is rough out there! Played for a year and a half, went from unranked to top 400 in 6 months, lost money all the way through. I made more money playing money tournaments in the USA then on tour! Then I decided to start a UA-cam channel lol! But don’t get discouraged by the costs, focus on your goal all the way. Best of luck!!
Good breakdown. What's missing are the potential rewards, which are tiny until he gets to challenger events. These open tournaments in the UK, though played at a really high level, will not earn you a single ATP point and at most $500 to the winner!
We were actually in the same draw once in the Boehner Cup or something in Dusseldorf, Germany. I think you even won that tournament a few years ago, I lost my first round match but still funny to think of it, cause I couldn’t be further away from making it pro and just play for fun non competitively these days and you’re hustling to get your first ATP point, which is massive. Best of luck on your journey and hope to see your name on the futures/challenger tour in a few years
this is a great video man, for real. So let's say it takes about 200k for 1 ATP point, I never knew my parents were spending so much money on me hahaha I'm 16 and have a UTR of 9. My goal is college tennis so 1 ATP point isnt necessary. Good luck on your journey, I'll be following you :)
It seems that is good to become coach or physiotherapist hah! Good luck mate, I'm playing as an amateur every week and I'm just in love with tennis for about 1.5 year (after 15 years break). Hopefully I'll see you soon on ATP tour. While I'm still living in UK maybe I'll give you some support as a spectator. Good channel
Hey mate, I think the channel is such a cool idea. I’m also on the hunt for an ATP point this year too. Training costs here in Australia are free if you’re in the national academy and even a lot of our travel interstate has been subsidised by Tennis Australia. I’d say my costs for this year (when I go overseas to play futures) would be significantly cheaper. If you go to a place like Tunisia or Turkey it is cheap as. Your best bet is to just go to one of the places with a mate and rent an apartment or Airbnb for a couple months and it’ll make it so much more affordable. Like only $200usd a month for a good place if sharing with mates. Then you’ve just gotta add transport on top of that which is pretty cheap anyway. Like I was thinking $1k a month not $5k. Best of luck mate 💪
I can't wait till I go pro! I believe I can! I went from a 4.8 to a 6.36 in 5 months and honestly I'm now understanding the need of doing work outside of the tennis court (I'm running 20-30 mins) (20 mins of peloton) (20 mins of footwork) 30-40 mins of reaction) (15 mins of balancing!)
Brilliant video. Gives people a realistic idea of what it costs to take their game to the next level if they are willing to invest into their tennis. Could you do more videos like this, explaining pathways to take in terms of training, group training, 1-2-1's etc they can take to get to a county, regional and national level?
I started playing tennis when i was 14. So got only 1 year of U-14 . I couldnt afford to keep on playing tennis obviously because my family was not that rich but my dad did everything he could to provide me with the best gear. Spent good two years on the national circuit before i finally had to give up. Now i am working my ass off to save up atleast 500,000$ for my future son/daughter's career { if they happen to take up tennis }
Love the honesty man, haven't seen someone being as open about the costs Just wondering, did you struggle with managing the tournaments and losing those school days?
Hearing that you go through a pair of shoes in two weeks was crazy, haha. Keep up the good work. If you continue this, I believe you will achieve your goal of getting your first ATP point.
@@tennisbrothers I am also a national player and my shoes last about 8 months. I don´t understand how any shoes can only last 2 weeks. Is it some cheap and nasty stuff? Why don´t you show us a picture of your shoes in forthcoming videos how they look after a fortnight. It´s hard to believe how any company can make something that cheap.
@@kinapruk If you slide a lot and play multiple hours every day, your shoes shouldn't last for more than a month. I am at a lower level than Felix but I slide alot, my shoes last me about 2 months and I play about half as much as him.
I've been hitting against the wall since the very start as a rec player. As a result I'm trailing behind my tennis peers by far. No lucre, no glory. Sad but true. . .
You are correct - Talent is a big factor. At the extremes, look at the Williams sisters or Michael Chang, who won his first Grand Slam match at 15, his first tournament at 16, and a Slam at 17. Quite depressing info for regular people!
I think in the UK, based off your data, the tournament entry fee costs are way lower. Just to play a usta tournament depending on the level can range from 50-200 dollars just for the entry fee. It was really nice to hear your insight about this though and good luck with your journey.
When you go on tournaments in Europe, you could always ask your UA-cam Audience whether they could house you for a few days 😊 this could save a bit of money and the person who house you could learn from you a lot and maybe hit a few minutes with you 😋 WIN WIN situation 🤠
I wish you all the best Felix. This type of video content is truly unique and very interesting for parents who may consider putting their child through the steps towards a career in tennis. I wonder if you had any estimated stats on how many players there are in the world who would realistically aspire to make it to 1 ATP/WTA point, as I'd imagine it's quite a sombering number compared to the number of pros who actually end up making a decent living on tour.
Trust me there are thousands of players that try to achieve this. Most of my friends are on the same journey. Without total focus and determination it is nearly impossible to do this. There are only around 2250 players on the mens tour that have at least 1 point...
Thanks a lot for the detailed breakdown, it's a really helpful and informative summary of the costs involved 😁 One question rose to my mind though, how did you manage to become sponsored for practically all your apparel? Perhaps you could make a video of that too, a cheeky suggestion haha
Great video on the finances! Something for a future episode perhaps would be a breakdown of your team, practice partners, friends. How are they experiencing your tennis? So far we've only seen your dads' hands :)
Felix just came here and told straight FACTS. No bs, no sugarcoating, just the truth. Respect 👏
Delecate topic but I thought a story worth telling...,

Good breakdown. What's missing are the potential rewards, which are tiny until he gets to challenger events. These open tournaments in the UK, though played at a really high level, will not earn you a single ATP point and at most $500 to the winner!
Been waiting for this one.
Great vid bro!
thank you
Thanks this was a very informative video for me. I want to go pro and this showed me how much it really costs.
Really pleased with you sharing the information to all tennis fans. Get that 1st ATP now! DO IT... my inner Arnie voice got summoned!
thanks for your support!
Good luck my Brother. That's some true dedication. Bravo to your parents as well!
Great video!!! Shows the reality of a tennis player!!!
Best of luck on your journey and hope to see your name on the futures/challenger tour in a few years
Thanks for the feedback. Boehner Cup was fun. I won the tournament in U12 and became Stadtmeister von Duesseldorf. ;-) Good luck with your tennis too.
this is a great video man, for real. So let's say it takes about 200k for 1 ATP point, I never knew my parents were spending so much money on me hahaha I'm 16 and have a UTR of 9. My goal is college tennis so 1 ATP point isnt necessary. Good luck on your journey, I'll be following you :)
You’re a legend bruh. I respect you. You’ll have more than 1 atp point in the near future. Keep the vids coming🤝
Avg travel expenses for the tour is around 50 to 75k just to travel for the player.
It's all very costly!
Appreciate it 🙏👍
Hey mate, I think the channel is such a cool idea.
Another gerat video.
Keep up the good work and all the best on your journey!
You'll get there!!!
Those are awesome numbers, thanks for taking the time to make this!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for your support
Thanks for sharing! I wish you all the best and i hope you'll be such agressive on the court as you are in digital marketing.👍
You have been doing amazing with this pretty low cost. Good luck for your journey!
great informative video. thank you for touching on such an important topic
Thats a comprehensive breakdown Felix.
I tried to cover everything ...
Oh my god @@
Huge respect to you and people around you.
You’ve done a great job managing your expenses. And from seeing your tennis improvement, it’s totally worth it.
Who are your sponsors?
Dunlop as well as Bidi Badu.
Great video mate! Much success for the future and take care!
Keep at it , you got it 💪
Can’t wait for you to get that 1 atp point
Brilliant video. Gives people a realistic idea of what it costs to take their game to the next level if they are willing to invest into their tennis. Could you do more videos like this, explaining pathways to take in terms of training, group training, 1-2-1's etc they can take to get to a county, regional and national level?
Great video, looking forward to the rest of the journey!
Thanks for talking about this.
I started playing tennis when i was 14. So got only 1 year of U-14 . I couldnt afford to keep on playing tennis obviously because my family was not that rich but my dad did everything he could to provide me with the best gear. Spent good two years on the national circuit before i finally had to give up. Now i am working my ass off to save up atleast 500,000$ for my future son/daughter's career { if they happen to take up tennis }
Thanks for sharing information that is nowhere else available.
Love the honesty man, haven't seen someone being as open about the costs
Just wondering, did you struggle with managing the tournaments and losing those school days?
Looking forward to seeing your next tournament. Good luck!!!
I'm playing next weekend - Can't wait ;-)
Fantastic video. Thank you felix. Waiting for the next video
Great analysis Tennis Bro, this will help all those players (and their parents) who might be dreaming.
Awesome video man! Really eye opening to see what it takes to get to that level: financially, physically, and mentally.
Keep it up! I believe in you!
Go and get ur 1st point. Cant wait for it.
felix I just saw this vid and I also started playing tennis at age 7, but I didn't start playing tournaments until I was 10.
Hey buddy, I hope to get my first ATP point this year as well, I went for 1 tour to Tunisia last year which was 3 weeks but no luck.
I wish you all the patience, dedication and willpower to make it! Good luck!
Thank you!
Hearing that you go through a pair of shoes in two weeks was crazy, haha. Keep up the good work. If you continue this, I believe you will achieve your goal of getting your first ATP point.
it is crazy to me as well
@@tennisbrothers I am also a national player and my shoes last about 8 months.
Good luck on your objectives, great channel
Thank you 😊
Here on every video, remember me once you're famous. Well made video
190 K... Wow, that a pretty impressive number to get. I hope you and every other tennis player the best and good luck with Everything 😍🥰😘
I thought they were high, in Belgium we pay between 10-13€ as entry fee. Ofc the rewards will be way lower as well I guess.
yes most tournaments here cost £25
Here in South Italy a one-to-one coaching costs 10€ per session(1 hour and half) and a group lesson costs about 7-8€ per session(2 hours)
Gosh - you are very fortunate! I should train in italy ;-) on top you guys have much better weather too ...
Thanks a lot for the detailed breakdown, it's a really helpful and informative summary of the costs involved 😁
One question rose to my mind though, how did you manage to become sponsored for practically all your apparel? Perhaps you could make a video of that too, a cheeky suggestion haha
Most of it comes from the social stuff to be honest , have been doing this for years so it definitely helps to get deals with sponsors
Great video on the finances! Something for a future episode perhaps would be a breakdown of your team, practice partners, friends. How are they experiencing your tennis? So far we've only seen your dads' hands :)
😂 ok
All the best bro to become a world no 1
Wow, a pair of shoes every 2 weeks, that crazy! Keep grinding, you'll get that one point soon :)
Subscribed. You remind me of a real-life version of Ei-kun from Baby Steps.
Good Luck. Keep going
