Let this video be a warning for those who call a player they see on TV a "pushover" just because they lose in first round to Nadal, Djokovic, Federer, Barty, Halep or the Williams sisters. Any player who qualifies for an internationally broadcast tournament and even has the chance to face any top 10 is good enough to beat 99% of the global population with an arm tied to the back. They may not win Wimbledon, but that doesn't mean they haven't made it to the top and that they aren't WAY better than any UA-cam "coach".
I just saw an interview of Rublev, where he said the costs of his coach and physio are about 600.000 per year, and the coach gets 10% of his prize money

This tennis circuit seems very similar to the Poker circuit. So many players compete in tournaments all over, and its fun to go around and compete, but fact is vast majority need a true full-time job outside of poker to sustain the costs to keep the thrill of playing in the circuit (with the carrot of a potential big payday if one gets very lucky).

Excellent video!! Sadly in professional tennis the words of Mark 4:25 apply perfectly: "For to him who has will more be given; and from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away".

10:12 "Numbers of spectators" - and this is what is all boils down to, no matter what is your ability, color or sex.. the further you advance the higher the rewards!
Although the relatively few top tennis players appear to earn a lot, unlike football players they are in fact running a business with considerable costs including hiring expensive highly skilled coaches, physios etc. This is in addition to the costs of travel, accommodation and equipment. A top tennis player should be seen as a small business enterprise. On top of this they still have high costs to pay even if they have a bad year due to injuries, a down turn etc., which can hit their prize money. So like many other small businesses their earnings are not guaranteed from one season to the next.
I would just absolutely love if I could play futures and challengers tournaments every now and then when I'm older. My dream (obviously besides making it full time pro) would be to play throughout college, get a good job after college and play every now and then in futures and challengers
If your ranked outside the top 500, it really helps to live close to where a lot of future tournaments are held. Some places (like Heraklion in Greece) hold tournaments several weeks in a row and you can stay and play at a resort at low season prices. Are domestic flights in the US really 700 USD btw? You could do a 4-5 cities tour in Europe for that money.
After a bad start, the rest of the presentation is pretty good and shows that though the pot of gold is big for the top players, the chances of success are small and thousands of players make nothing in the end. On coaches, I always wondered how much they charged. One think that may be missing is that there are players who are financially supported by investors, whether it be family, friends and local business people. They provide all or part of the costs of competing in exchange for a contract giving them a portion of the winnings. If the player does “make it”, these investors make back their money and more.
This is why Djokovic formed new players asossiation, but yet Nadal nor Federer didn't want to support him, rich will to stay rich while poor will stay poor that's how the world works and even the current No. 1 can't change it
Idk bout roger. But Nadal did support him. And if you want to get specific. Both Novak and roger were filthy rich growing up (not that it matter) but your making Nadal sound like a rich guy who has never done anything for the disadvantaged. He grew up so poor and he gives so much

If you live in the right area with low cost of living $60k a year to swing a racket and do something you love doesn't sound horrible and you can still live comfortably on that. Main thing is to save as much money as you can and have a plan for what you'll do next after you pass your prime years.
I remember hearing a story where the NHL asked one of their highest ranking players how much they should pay him per year. He wrote down the number 35000. They accepted the deal, and payed a *top five ranking player* no more than _minimum wage._
But the 250 guy will be able to have a six figure income teaching others to play tennis for the rest of his life. The 1700 guy would easily get a tennis coach job for a high school tennis team.
Tried my hands at ITF organized tournaments after moderate success in USTA team tennis. My doubles partner and I did well in a few tournaments at high altitude (we were both from salt lake city ,utah) . we both realized that many people have been groomed since grade school and have a decade of experience before I picked up a tennis racket in high school. Our best results was about $2500 take home for a single challenger event .
This is great content and I think it is very interesting to recognize how similar competitive prize structuring is for certain (non-team) activities. Odd similarities in things from tennis to fighting game e-sports.
It's not because tennis is an elitist sport, it's because anything remotely similar to tennis's economic structure (individuals building their own brands in an attendance/travel-based environment) is incredibly skewed. Even pro wrestling (which is predetermined and more entertainment-based) has a similar structure. Jim Duggan (winner of the first Royal Rumble) estimated only 120 people hold contracts and the rest would drive "200-500 miles for $25" according to (former WCW champion) Diamond Dallas Page. Of course, it goes without saying that the people at the top earn millions of dollars per year...
It's been stated by some "journeymen" ex-players that if you're going to try to make it on the pro circuit full-time you need to have at least $500,000 in financial support to cover 3 or 4 years or not even bother trying. Also, you can't include "Match for Africa" as a paid XO. That was a charity event for Roger's foundation not a paid XO. Neither of them got paid a "salary." Rafa's expenses were covered but that was it. In return Roger later did a video appearance - that would have been in-person if not for the COVID lockdown - at Rafa's academy for the "graduating" students.
I've played on the court a few times @6:35. Not as a professional obviously ha. That's Rebsamen Tennis Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Pretty cool to see in the video.

You are my favorite UA-camr on the platform right now! I love tennis but I can never find awesome UA-camrs like you!
I love the videos that you are making. They are very informative and engaging. Keep up the good work!
Will you be doing collabs with other Tennis UA-camrs in the future?
Absolutely, very big things planned for this channel in 2021 😉
@@CULTTENNIS the place of residence also affects the salary from contracts. Max Eisenbad (Vice President of IMG) talks about this in an interview with Forbes. If we look at the example of the same Nishikori, we will see that he earned more on advertising contracts than Djokovic !! and Li Na, the first Chinese woman to win a Grand Slam in 2019 alone, earned 19 million. despite the fact that she has already finished her career. what to say about Osaka, which has already become the highest paid female athlete in the world. I know this because I blog myself: texon.substack.com/. I write a lot about how to apply as a young tennis player to US universities. which is also one of the options for continuing a tennis career. I really like your channel, great content. if you want, we can collaborate, here is my number - 87773485940
Man the quality is a slick as Roger’s backhand (or forehand if you wish lol)
Just as slick as roger lol
Roger dodger
informative and nicely presented.. appreciate the efforts put in to shed some light on the much ignored BTS reality, in an understandable manner.. congrats n all the best!!!
Great video man, love this fast growing channel of yours. Please keep up the good tennis content!
Great video man. All the info i needed and easy to understand. Great editing too.
Awesome video, mate, this is what tennis followers have to know. Now, imagine this hard reality for south american players, with less money and with longer and more expensive flights.
Also for asian countries like India..
Excellent video!! Sadly in professional tennis the words of Mark 4:25 apply perfectly: "For to him who has will more be given; and from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away".
Really interesting, and equally depressing for those intent on making it to the top. Thanks for the heads up. Glad I’m too old and rubbish to even consider it now!
10:12 "Numbers of spectators" - and this is what is all boils down to, no matter what is your ability, color or sex.. the further you advance the higher the rewards!
Always wanted to know the daily grind being a tennis player! Thanks for this feedback bro! Love your channel
It’s incredible to me that you win anything at all in round 2
You're like the Core-A gaming of Tennis.
We need more channels like them quality content that isnt too straining on the creator.
Wow this is dream crushing yet informative.
You will see your channel grow. Absolutely genius tennis content and video making skills. Keep it up.
High Quality content 👌I wonder how those money affect them mentally during tennis matches 😟
It’s honestly sad😕
There is another options for players like Asaba, betting.
The productionvalue on these videos is impressive. If you do this on your own, you certainly deserve to make a decent living from it at a minimum! :)
3:46 Pierce Rollins LOL...hes not bad. Saw him in same draw as my bud at our local city tournaments. Not an ITF not even close
Another amazing video like always ❤️
:)
Would have been nice to compare earnings of 1, 10, 100 and 1000th ranked.
I would just absolutely love if I could play futures and challengers tournaments every now and then when I'm older. My dream (obviously besides making it full time pro) would be to play throughout college, get a good job after college and play every now and then in futures and challengers
This needs to change, it’s ridiculous how expensive tennis. It just doesn’t seem worth it
If your ranked outside the top 500, it really helps to live close to where a lot of future tournaments are held. Some places (like Heraklion in Greece) hold tournaments several weeks in a row and you can stay and play at a resort at low season prices. Are domestic flights in the US really 700 USD btw? You could do a 4-5 cities tour in Europe for that money.
it’s because of distances that domestic flights cost around 300~400 dollars
Every video you publish is a banger. Keep it up!!
This is a great video!!!
Keep posting videos of this type.
Dude ur delivery is so good, very engaging video 👍🏾
Great vid as always . Love the analytics
Love your videos! Keep up the content!
This is why Djokovic formed new players asossiation, but yet Nadal nor Federer didn't want to support him, rich will to stay rich while poor will stay poor that's how the world works and even the current No. 1 can't change it
Bro, that's deep.
Yea that's not what happened mate. But let's spin it your way because you are probably a Novak Stan
Idk bout roger. But Nadal did support him. And if you want to get specific. Both Novak and roger were filthy rich growing up (not that it matter) but your making Nadal sound like a rich guy who has never done anything for the disadvantaged. He grew up so poor and he gives so much
@@zenahanna2613 You can check Novaks background story, hes familly was middle class in eastern Europe during his childhood. They were actually gambling and selling everything to invest in his career....

Babe, your pulling facts from your ass
love your videos and all the research you put into it!
If you live in the right area with low cost of living $60k a year to swing a racket and do something you love doesn't sound horrible and you can still live comfortably on that. Main thing is to save as much money as you can and have a plan for what you'll do next after you pass your prime years.
4:19.. Vikas Deo LMAO. I beat him in singles and doubles why he even playing in that tournament
You didnt include new strings and grips as expenses as well
it's okay, the figure for food was pretty over the top for a week or whatever
I remember hearing a story where the NHL asked one of their highest ranking players how much they should pay him per year. He wrote down the number 35000. They accepted the deal, and payed a *top five ranking player* no more than _minimum wage._
Was that in your dream?
Once again great content about something i've always wondered about the professional circuit.
Great Video as always! Love your channel man!
High quality content, as always.
Best tennis Channel.
This is great content and I think it is very interesting to recognize how similar competitive prize structuring is for certain (non-team) activities. Odd similarities in things from tennis to fighting game e-sports.
You are the best tennis channel on UA-cam because everyone knows there are these types of channel in other sports but not tennis until you arrived 🎾
This wasn't that much of a surprise considering how much of an elitist sport tennis is.
Wow this video was extremely insightful, thank you very much.
The match for africa doesn‘t pay an appearance fee, nadal agreed to participate as a favor to roger and because it‘s for a good cause.
Another great release, Thanks!
These videos are great, very thorough.
Man ! This is really very informative.
Ubelievable vid, congrats 🎉
So much great editing man
It's been stated by some "journeymen" ex-players that if you're going to try to make it on the pro circuit full-time you need to have at least $500,000 in financial support to cover 3 or 4 years or not even bother trying.
It's not just tennis. It's chess. It's snooker. It's a lot of single player sports.
Great video!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
