While I was watching this, I was thinking: "Wow, strong Build Engine vibes, but it's probably Unity or whatever. These throwback shooters are hyping pretty hard, but they are all kinda stuck in that endless Early Access mode..." And then I looked into the description, and it's a DooM mod. Damn, there are some really talented guys, because it looks absolutely like a standalone game.
@@Xaero188 i dont know if all total conversions can be called doom mods. For a lot of them calling them mods is like calling anything made in unity or unreal engine "unity mods" or "unreal mods".
@@Xaero188 Our engine modifications probably make this more of a descendent of Quake than Doom TBPF. None of Doom's original movement code remains, most of it is taken from Quake 3.
@@joe125ful Yes, somehow a game with flat square wolfensteiny levels with 6 textures per level and monsters without rotations, a completely broken gameplay where if you upgrade one gun you get relatively early, can use it for the rest of the game and it becomes a complete cakewalk on any difficulty is sooo much better than games with intricate levels and proper balance.

I see the city solved its public transportation costs problem by having commuters jump between airborne platforms and falling off, thus reducing the number of people who actually need public transportation.
I wish they would implement that worldwide. There are way too many fucking humans. I’m stuck in standstill traffic almost everyday now in my little city. 20 years ago, it would be a newsworthy event if that happened. People need to stop reproducing for no reason. Nobody needs more than two offspring. Period.
this is incredibly cool, the movement and animations have a great flow to them which gives the combat quite the energetic feel plus the soundtrack is dope af
I like retro futurism. When the latest technologies and the style of the 80-90s are combined. The game looks cool and stylish visually, something in the color scheme reminded System shock. Music very great, new retro wave.
This music in the game is great, when u notice music in the game you know its great. Gameplay and atmosphere are a perfect fit..can you imagine this game in the actual 90s tho lol
First few minutes of the video had me worried and thinking "oh no, they copied Ghostrunner" but thankfully this actually has other weapons, health and armor, and is definitely its own thing. This also looks significantly better than Supplice, and really shows some mastery of GZDoom.
All it seems to be missing is a bloom effect for the glowy neon bits First level was great fun; a shame to put the rest of it behind Patreon (never giving money to them ever again) - but I'll look forward to the full release, no doubt
It's similar to Frank Miller's Ronin, if it were crossed with Shadow Warrior, Ghostrunner, Blade Runner, and a little bit of Hotline Miami. I also get Terminator: Rampage, Terminator: Future Shock, Syndicate, and System Shock vibes from it. Good going to the developers for making this. I'm still impressed with what Doom modders can do with the Doom engine nowadays. I feel same about Build Engine modders. It would be cool if someone did a mod based off Ronin directly, and combined it with the original Shadow Warrior. Imagine the possibilities for what mods can do.
It's the GZDOOM engine, it's a fan-made engine that replicates AND expands the original Doom one. It's like a modern engine with all the modern game engine stuff, made for making Doom-style games (possible other styles too)
@@kabardino1337 I know it's GZDoom. I've played Doom 1+2 and various mods on that port to know how it looks and plays. I was just using the phrase Doom Engine to describe Doom modding in general. But it is amazing nonetheless what Doom modders have accomplished with GZDoom. I'm always impressed by the complexity of the level design and the amount of interactivity modders put into their GZDoom mods.
The dashing and projectile reflecting katana remind me of this awesome doom mod Demonsteele. If you like kickass cyber-ninja-angels, you'll like that mod!
people keep mentioning katana zero, which is not a game I have ever played. I'm definitely going to check it out though. enough people have brought it up that it's probably worth my time. otherwise, any similarities are entirely coincidental.
You're in luck! I think the full game is releasing next year. Also, the current demo is actually much longer than this video (it has well over an hour's worth of gameplay). :)
@@oujimandias6485 At this time, the game has fairly demanding requirements. We are putting some effort into optimizing it a little better, but we are certainly pushing GZDoom to its extremes here.

Seeing this is DOOM but with conversion mod and whole bunch of other Conversion Mod is really a sight to see and experience as technology from now merge with game from the past that still playable even with mods and bring whole new vibes and gameplay Really love it
The only thing I disliked about it is that the devs seems to be focusing *A LOT* on the Adventure side of things, with the timed jump puzzles and challenges overshadowing the octane-fueled action. There is some huge potential here to be more than what Ion Fury is, but I feel the puzzles kinda break the steam of things. Even the demo show after seems to imply that there is way more puzzles ahead. But of course, if this is the dev's vision, we shall respect it and see if they can pull that balance off accordingly.
I disagree. The focus on exploration and puzzle solving helps to set Hedon apart from the bazillion other retro fps games out there; there's room for a similar game to do the same.
i just got done with the demo will buy it when it comes out, i played it on a 5inch crt, probably looks great on a 8inch sony Trinitron they gotta make the health pick ups bigger tho, also im probably only gonna finish it on easy, really cool they took mechanics from the newer dooms
I would love to play this in VR. Even if there are no VR controls other than just looking around. I know you're still working on it, but definitely consider the option.
Okay initially I was like "okay the mobility looks solid, I hope this isn't all there is" and then it broke into the office area, and I perked up a bit more, and then... then that music track kicks in and I was pretty sold on it. Wishlisted right away.

GZDoom according to the website. I doubt this would work in all sourceports much less the original Doom.
