Trenchpunk being free means it gets to join the random assortment of free games I have on every pc I own just in case I get stuck with no internet for some weird reason
This is a great comment as it's something I've dealt with myself. In my area, violent winter storms usually knock the power/internet out for anywhere from an hour to a few days. Part of surviving this is having gaming options ready at all times!
@@Brentastrophe i do this too 😂 even on my phone, I have Minecraft, doom, and even PS1 and SNES games because they take up little space, no micro transactions, and they're way more satisfying to play than most modern mobile games
I’m in the process of beating Project Warlock for the first time. Having a great time with it using gyro aim on the Steam Deck. Unfortunately, all my progress was erased halfway through the game, so I had to start over. I made up all my progress, but that was a punch to the gut when it happened. 😭
The games look incredible. I never played Wolfenstein 3D because it came out in 1992 and I was born in 1993. By the time I got started with FPS games, it was MoH War Chest and Star Wars Jedi Knight, both Jedi Outcast and Jedi Outcast.
LOL, i was born wa-ay earlier, - and i didn't play it either🤪! At least, not until much later. I saw older kids play it a few times: i shrugged and thought - why would i play THAT, when we've got Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat, Final Fight, Golden Axe and Vendetta in the arcades?? Even years later, when i got access to computers and Heretic, Wolf3d appeared like a game of Pong next to the crusade against D'sparil. Something i never understood: Pong, Snake, Pinball, like - why??!...then again, after you hunt the mammoth with your tribe and gather the rocks with surviving few from the next cave - why not to pull out an abacus and challenge the Flinstones and Chuck to a game of Pong🤣...Nah, i'd stick to throwing stones at Pterodactyls.
Another great video! One thing I'd really like to see is the links for the games next to their name in the description. I guarantee you that a lot of people just don't have the time or energy to look up all the titles. I know you put a lot of effort into these lists and I really appreciate it! This is simply a little bit of feedback from the humble viewer :D
Thanks man! And I appreciate the feedback! Why I dont include it, is because out of testing it hurts the video more then its beneficial, especially when I'm still just a small little channel :) but I will include them here and there and more often in later when the channel has grown.
Oh, also, have you seen or played Caesar’s Revenge?? It’s a really neat wolf3D clone that’s been getting popular recently Looks so dam fun, figured it’d be something you’d love!
Zlim, i am most pleasantly surprised to find out first hand - that the devs of Wizordum fixed almost everything i've mentioned! I don't know if you had anything to do with that, but i am impressed!👍 The gameplay now makes a lot more sense and flows much better. They also added quite a few major visual upgrades, which makes me respect them even more. If there is one thing that i hold in high regard, - it's when people take seriously what they do. So major props to them 👏! Well, if they want to continue in this triumphant direction, then the next step would be spell effects: different weapons should be resulting in different death animations of the enemies. That, followed by sprite-animated light effects for light sources, as well as dynamic lights for projectiles and such. Without these two the gameworld appears kinda dead and the weapons feel samey. Finally, i reckon to aim for more animated sprites in the levels a la Morbid:Seven Acolytes and Slain/Valfaris - would only perfect the game's atmosphere ever more. As for bugs: the enemies can still bypass obstacles and cut corners when attacking (especially melee), while the player cannot. When taking the map scroll item - some secrets still do not appear on the map. I would eliminate random walls at all: this gimmick - has overstayed its welcome long ago. Even Project Warlock, which was famous for it - abandoned that nonsense. By the way, in my old mods - i used to have a weapon called "Storm Gauntlets". I wonder where they got the idea🤪🤣.
They sure did fix a lot of things, and added upon it. We have to remember sometimes to look at the roadmaps ahead for early access titles and keep those things in mind in early stages. Few times a dev with a publisher fails on the roadmaps :)
The total conversion for Doom called Shadow of the Wool Ball might be worth a mention. Some people call Nightmare Reaper a very advanced Wolfenstein-like game but I don't know if it'd fit this list.
Only Lead can Stop Them and Cult of Cthulhu seem like a Doom-likes, given the elevation changes in the level. I'm surprised the Wizordum clip showed an enemy on top of an elevated wall/platform/whatnot. I'd thought elevated parts of the level was limited to look-but-don't-touch scenery.
Edit: this C'tullu game might be the closest to capturing Wolfen vibes, as Wolfenstein has had weird occult stuff since at least W3D. not sure about the VERY first game Thanks for featuring trenchpunk again. I haven't played yet but the style is so cool. In some ways it reminds me of a build game called WWII GI.
I don't believe someone actually played WWII GI😲 or its twin brother in disguise: NAM. At some point i considered scavenging some resources from these, for mods. Long ago. However, i found nothing useful there. There were some weird games back in the day, like Winthorp's Mansion, In Extremis and Mortal Coil. Back then i really wanted to play those obscurities. Nowadays i am glad i never did.
fantastic video as always Zlim :) I already played Intrude and am currently playing Exophobia. Going to have to add a bunch of these to my too play list, especially Trenchpunk, those guns sound JUICY. There's this one cool Wolfenstein like that turns it into a competitive multiplayer mode where you send enemies to each other a bit like Tetris, I forget the name, but its supposed to be pretty good :P
When i hear the term "Wolfenstein3D" - i immediately imagine something extremely low-effort, a most likely result of two developers, one of which (always at his desk) would enthusiastically suggest: "Let's make this...", while the other (always laying on the couch) consistently responded with a lazily drawn-out "nah...what for...". The result was, well...Wolfenstein3D, and whatever came out after in a similar work ethic. There is project on Moddb, called Wolfenstein3d: Definitive Edition (currently only demo is available), which is made with exactly(!) the same tools that the devs had back then - it's even made for DOS only, so far. But the difference is, this one is made the way it should be. If you're interested to see how this game would've looked and played like - if made by a diligent dev and not a slacker, then check it out. I was never a wolf3d fan, but i was impressed with what that guy did. It's almost a 10/10 project.
And dont be too hard on yourself brotha. I've never done a gamer stream but i can imagine having ppl watch would change how i play a bit. You're probably totally used to it now that you've done them for some time. Still, i bet there is a subconcious element at work even now. While playing solo, you can devote all your mental resources to figuring out the game's hints and layout. While streaming you're probably also thinking about what to say or looking at chats etc. Sometimes even a small or unconcious distraction can mess with ya. And i bet we all have had smoothbrain moments where the solution is obvious but we just don't realise it
Good that these games get some love, Wolf-likes shape up to become a whole subgenre. Trenchpunk and Only Lead can stop them are the most interesting for me. if i say interesting, it often means the appeal to me but i probably won't play them
