Jordan is trapped in an overtly low-resolution view of anxiety because he is looking out from the limited view and story of psychological splitting.
Jordan's mind split into an identity and shadow to disconnect from his actual experience-- as a strategy to stop feeling anxious about the harmful and unsupportive behavior of his parents.

Spot on! This is why he has autoimmune issues (that he passed on to his daughter by parenting the same way). His parenting advice for a 2 year old that gets angry: put them in time out until they learn how to behave. In other words, break the most important attachment in their life (the parent) anytime the child has an emotion the parent doesn't approve of. That's a prescription for suppressing any "negative emotions."
JP sees life as suffering - and that everyone has a monster inside them. But that is only because he had to suppress all his "negative emotions" as a child - trapping them inside, tormenting him. He assumes that is the default human state.

@@benvoiles9166I wonder if he would freely admit to this if he was in a therapy session. I agree with this comment but I still find peterson to be one of the most fascinating people in the world and he's helped millions of people

Ask yourself why Jordan Peterson is an authority on this? Even his peers think otherwise. Not a scientist, but a psychologist that most psychologists disagree with. And he is on UA-cam, pimping for money with clicks. Sound familiar?

      Most psychologists are fools

JP is brilliant on many fronts. I think he is wrong here. He is dramatically overestimating the extent to which our adult rational mind is in control of our emotions. The anxiety is assuredly from childhood trauma, not an ongoing analysis of how things are going.
This video, however was never created by him for clicks. This was posted for free from when he was a lecturer. And it is posted here by someone who is not him.
I wouldn't put much stock in "Scientists" or psychologists as a whole. They aren't any more emotionally/psychologically well off than anyone else - proving they don't actually know how to heal anyone. They learn robust coping strategies and teach that as if it is healing.

@benvoiles9166 good points, but I don't think childhood trauma causes anxiety it could, but many times, it doesn't
